Gorgeous outdoor space, friendly service, lovely breakfast, and comfortable beds - but my bathroom was not the best (old shower curtain, and vanity shelf falling off the wall) although it was clean. Two callouts: Internet service was truly terrible during my stay in late August 2024. The manager and owner did what they could, even offering access to their admin network, but ultimately I had to go elsewhere to work. Also, when I asked for a bagel to go for my kid, they thoughtfully packed it with plenty of cream cheese, napkins, and a knife. read more

The Mount Vernon Inn is a wonderful location to stay! My room was very clean and spacious- even with a walk-in closet, a microwave/dorm-sized refrigerator, and a rain shower head. On site, off street parking. Motel style single floor entry off a shared courtyard. Check in from 3- 10 PM and check out by noon. Kate was wonderful managing the breakfast room. The continental breakfast is self-service while waiting for ordered menu items (included in room cost)- can invite a non-guest friend to breakfast for $12. Very nicely done. A group of us reserved one of the houses. It was a nice place to gather on our trip. The garden on site was just lovely to see. I can't say just how much we enjoyed sitting in the chairs overlooking that garden. Breakfast was excellent. Fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, coffee and delicious hot options. Well let me preface that I normally don't review lodging. However, in this instance I had nothing short of a perfect two-night stay so I will share. Layout wise this is kind of like a bed and breakfast meets a motel. The Inn has a main house with deluxe rooms as well as a kitchen that will serve a free made to order breakfast, which was outstanding the morning that I had it. Also, you can receive a free happy hour drink here if you so choose. The rest of the rooms are arranged in kind of an L shape around an outdoor common area. This would be perfect to sit outside and do some computer work except the time I was there was end of September and it was too hot to be out (although they do have outdoor fans). From talking the staff, the owners acquired the property ~4 years ago if I remember correctly and have been reinvesting in the Inn and it definitely shows. If you have the chance I would definitely recommend a stay here. read more

Staff was warm, friendly, and helpful. It also felt more "relaxed" than a large hotel. Breakfast was simple but made to order and quick. You can also enjoy an evening outside on a covered patio which is quiet intimate. The rooms are somewhat simple and dated, but comfortable. The property is in the shape of a U. The main house consists of the dining area, checkin area, and kitchen downstairs. There are suites upstairs. The rest of the rooms are outside facing a beautiful courtyard. There are covered sitting areas throughout. My family stayed here for two nights. The first night was me and one daughter who was visiting Kenyon. We were in Room 24 (East Cottonwood) which actually smelled rather musty until we turned the heat on. The room was very clean, but you could see some patching thoroughout. Since it is an older property, power outlets are not as prevalent so you might want to bring a power strip. The bathroom has a pedestal sink and is too small for a vanity, but in the room there is a long bar with a large mirror where you can do makeup and hair. There is a fridge w/2 complimentary bottles of water and a microwave. In the main house' dining room, there are cookies in the afternoon as well as coffee, tea, and cocoa. In the evening you can stop by for a glass of wine, beer, or sparkling cider. For breakfast, a cold bar is set up with fruit, pastries, and cereal. A made to order entree is included. I had the french toast which was fantastic. My daughter ordered scrambled eggs which she said were moist and flavorful. The second night, my DH and other daughter joined us. We moved to the Philander house which is located across from their small, private parking area. That room was very roomy with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a full kitchen. The master bath has a jacuzzi tub and separate shower. While we were at Kenyon, the staff moved our suitcase from the small room to the house which was greatly appreciated. The only complaint I have about the house is the curtains in the master bedroom. One of the windows faces the street and a streetlamp shines into the room. A heavier curtain or thicker blinds would help tremendously. I do have to add that the inn is right on a busy street so if you are a light sleeper, you might ask for a room furthest from the street. The staff is amazing. The owners live onsite and take pride in their inn. We will definitely be back. read more

I have never stayed at a non-chain hotel in a town the size of Mount Vernon Ohio. That said, I am so glad that I went outside of my comfort zone for the Mount Vernon Inn. This property is on unlike anything I have ever seen. It's a combination of a remodeled L shaped motel from the 50s and a scattering of houses that are available for lodging. If my room (The White Pine) is indicative of the others, you are doing yourself a disservice by staying at a chain hotel in Mount Vernon (or any hotel other than here). Everything is tastefully decorated and there are interesting and welcome details. The courtyard area is gorgeous, and the main building, where breakfast is served, is very pretty. Made-to-order reakfast, for that matter, is delicious and complementary. Additionally, they provide a complementary beer or glass of wine in the evenings. High recommended. read more

As I pulled up next to the Mt. Vernon Inn, arriving late in the evening, I was a bit concerned that I had actually arrived at someone's home. This is much closer to a bed and breakfast than it is to a big box hotel. From the street in the dark, it's easy to miss the parking lot. If you do, you park at the front of the "house". Once I walked in, I met the receptionist and I was comforted that I was in the correct place. From there, it was one delightful surprise after another. I walked through the enclosed courtyard to my room. The rooms are hard to describe, but they are similar to a townhouse condo. I opened the door, with an actual key, and found a large room with a comfortable bed, a large LCD TV with ample channels, a complementary robe, and a small bathroom. Although the bathroom is small, it had a large selection of toiletries that are often neglected at big box places: Q-Tips, face soap, makeup removal wipes, cotton swabs, and of course the necessities you find in all hotel rooms. The room also has a small refrigerator, coffee pot, glass and paper travel coffee cups, spoons, an ice bucket, and a microwave. I slept wonderfully on the bed, but managed to turn up by 8am for the complementary breakfast. A decent selection of cereals, yogurt, bagels, muffins, and oatmeal were available. In addition, there was fresh cut fruit and berries. I was happy with my cold selection when I sat down at a table. that's when I saw the hot meal options. Although there were a lot of options on the menu, I'm a sucker for poached eggs. Its the standard by which I compare all breakfast joints. So, I added two poached eggs and an English muffin. I got two eggs that appeared to be steam poached by some device, as they were perfectly shaped. Unfortunately, the eggs were overcooked. For that reason alone, I'm dropping the Inn to 4 stars instead of 5. If they want to be an Inn and/or bed and breakfast, they have to be able to properly poach eggs. Nonetheless, I'll be using the Mt. Vernon Inn for all of my future trips to Mt. Vernon. read more

Our family really does love staying here, we stayed in the big Victorian house (they have other rooms as well) the house has everything you need including a washer and dryer! Breakfast is served every morning in the main house and it's cooked to order as well as a bar with fruit and muffins and coffee milk or juice! The only negative thing is the home could use some repairs and updates. In the master room we can see the outside from the floor where it should meet the wall...that's not good! Also there were several bugs that had to be smashed!! But in a old home that is to be expected! Really we will stay again and keep coming back to this sweet Inn! read more

We recently stayed at this Inn for four nights with another couple. Our room was truly abysmal, their room was slightly better. Our room was tiny, dirty, the furnishings were old, mismatched and in bad repair (i.e., the lounge chair seat pan caved in making it very difficult to get out of the chair). There was no dresser, no coffee table, no luggage rack to elevate suitcases. Virtually everything had to sit on the floor. Incidentally we killed about six spiders on the floor in the sleeping area as well as in the bathroom. The bed skirt was torn in several spots spilling onto the floor making it a dangerous trip hazard. I had to stuff the torn skirt sections back under the mattress several times so we wouldn't trip as we moved around the tiny room. The bed spread was dirty. The bathrooms were very small with virtually no place to place toilet items or wet towels. A second towel rack or hooks were desperately needed. The shower had a rim of black-looking mold at the bottom of the shower. It really needed a good cleaning with Tilex and a scrub brush. One good thing was the rooms are pretty much sound proof that made for very quiet nights with only street sounds to contend with. There were several round metal tables, with four chairs at each, with protective roofs or overhangs in the garden area that were very nice. We very much enjoyed sitting in the garden, which was quite nice, enjoying the great weather that we had our first 3 days, while we chatted, and drank the complimentary glass of wine or beer that the Inn offered each evening. Due to COVID we were not able to enjoy the public rooms in the main Inn, which is a shame because it appears from the pictures (that are online) that these rooms are quite lovely and accommodating. The Inn offered a full breakfast each morning that was very good. In fact, the egg offerings were delicious, especially the omelets and the coffee was plentiful and tasty. The Inn is to be complimented for the nice job they did on their breakfast offerings and the complimentary beer or wine each evening. My general impression is that COVID has presented several financial issues for this Inn that they will need some time to recover from. I wish them well because the Inn has great potential to be a really nice place to spend a few nights once they are in a financial position to invest some money in much need improvements and deep cleaning to the various rooms. read more

What a hidden gem! I wanted a place to stay off the beaten path and away from chains due to COVID-19. This cozy inn was just the ticket. A few blocks from downtown Mount Vernon, the inn has all the small town charm you need to relax. Each room opens to a courtyard brimming with perennials. Tables and chairs are strategically placed for social distancing and enjoying the garden. Cooked-to-order breakfast selection is limited to 3 items but, hey, it's cooked to order. Complementary beer or a glass of wine is available each evening until 10, and the pours are quite generous. Will be staying here again for our 2021 family reunion! read more

It's all about the common areas. The breakfast area and gardens are very nice. The rooms are less than adequate. Outdated, poorly laid out bathrooms, old rugs and not very clean. Rooms have a coffee maker, but no coffee to make! We expect a little more when paying the price they ask. read more

DO NOT BOOK HERE. I had reserved a room for two nights this past weekend and found out that my traveling companion tested positive for Covid. I missed the cancellation cut off by *2 hours* and asked them very nicely if they could work with me on the cancellation, cancel the second day, something, anything. Everyone is hurt by Covid - and I was trying to come up with a solution that would work for the hotel and myself. Person on phone said they would get back to me and never did. Then I notice that they charged my card full price for both nights and when I did speak to them they refused to even consider a partial refund or credit or anything- even when I offered to provide the Covid test results. Terrible customer service and really unfortunate business practices considering the situation. read more

My girlfriend, another couple and I went to Mt Vernon for a wedding on 4th of July weekend. It was a long drive and we got to the place around 1am. The people running the place were friendly despite being woken up at this time and checked us in to the 2 bedroom suite. Split between 2 couples, the price of the suite is very reasonable. The rooms were pleasant, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom clean and pretty nice. Everything was reasonably new, there was free wifi in the rooms and flat screen TVs just about everywhere other than the shower. The breakfast was pretty good. Decent coffee, a good selection of cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries and then the order, which can be an omelet, pancakes, waffle, or something else I can't recall. If you're particularly ravenous, you can get seconds for something silly like $3. The breakfast room is bright, has very pleasant decor and is a great place to sit around in the morning. There's a door that leads into a great little verdant garden with a few tables under gazebos that all look very pleasant as well. This whole place is just really relaxing and nice. Unfortunately, it's on a bleak street in Mt Vernon. Nothing to see out the windows: a gas station with some sort of steel structure with lots of jutting tubes looming over it. But hey, if you're a traveler in Mt Vernon, you probably didn't come here for Mt Vernon. So don't look out the windows and enjoy the delightful accommodations. read more

This Inn has guest rooms including suites, apartments, cottages and houses. It is located next to main road of Mount Vernon and walking distance from train station. I stayed in the White Pine room which is decorated with modern furniture and I liked it. Most of rooms are decorated with country style furniture, so my room was different from other rooms. You can look at photos of rooms from "make reservation section" from their website. I really liked my choice. My boyfriend had stayed here before for his business trip, but he said the room he stayed looked older and this room is much better. The receptionist and house keepers were young ladies, and they were all nice. Free Wi-Fi. Beautiful dining room. Small, but nice size beautiful back yard. Guest rooms are facing to the yard. There are table and chairs, so if the weather is nice, you can enjoy spending time outside. Although the office is facing to the busiest road in Mount Vernon, there are not so many traffic and it was very quiet. I had relaxing time there. We had breakfast in their beautiful dining area. It was much better than chain Inn's breakfast. This town is small, so there are not so many restaurants, but still there are choices of restaurants. This inn is located in center of the town, so it was convenient to go to other restaurants, cafe and bar. The room had coffee maker, and when I was going to make coffee, I found someone who stayed there before wrote something inside of the paper cup. When I asked to give us new paper cup, they sincerely apologized and offered microwave popcorn, which I thought nice. read more

Stayed at Mt Vernon Inn from Jan 28-30 while my son was invited out to see Kenyon College and their football team. He stayed on campus with the football team and I spent 2 nights at the Inn. The Inn was beautiful, quaint, quiet, and cozy. My room was great; bed was soft and comfortable, plenty of plush pillows, relaxing sofa, heater worked awesome, bathroom was a little on the small we side but very nice aesthetics (bath robe too), and the large shower head and the hot water worked out perfect. My room overlooked the snowy courtyard area, there were covered walkways, a private parking area, and the dining area (breakfast) was the best part, all of the food was fresh (eggs were farm fresh). It lightly snowed while I was here and it felt like Christmas with strings of lights throughout the courtyard and each door decorated with a wreath. Everyone there had great hospitality, very friendly, and addressed me by my first name, which made me feel very welcomed. Special thanks to Jess and Angie. Stayed for the night biking from Cleveland to Cincinnati. Nice place, beautiful garden, staff incredibly welcoming. Allowed to keep our bikes in the room without a problem. Would have given a 5 if the (I presume) owner wasn't nasty this AM upon checking out. Checked in Friday evening with my two children and Service Dog. Was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. Absolutely gorgeous. The nighttime desk guy was great, very personable. Room was awesome. Bed was comfy. We had a quiet courtyard room. My daughter said it's a princess hotel. Had an awesome nights sleep. Wonderful shower with the rain shower. Went to the front desk this AM to check out and the female who confronted me was obviously upset my dog was with me. Exceptional place to stay! We were only in town one night for SonFest at Mount Vernon University. This place is the nicest I've stayed in for long time. Very clean and comfortable. The owner and staff were very friendly and welcoming. The continental breakfast was delicious and not just a help yourself buffet like usual. There is side tables with other items and drinks, but you choose your main breakfast from their menu and they serve it to you. Loved the ambiance of this place. Our room was small but clean and it opened onto a garden. There were tables where you could sit and relax. Must be lovely in the summer. My favorite part was breakfast! The dining room was in the main house and was so lovely with it's many windows framed with sheer white curtains. Felt European to me. There was a menu that you could order from and it was difficult to make a decision. The French toast was wonderful and the omelet was very good. We stayed here on a recent visit and found it very enjoyable although security is lacking. We stayed in the strip of rooms that are motel style, very charming, clean and lovely rooms with beautiful gardens outside our door. The bathroom was a bit small with not much room to set things down, nor a clothing hook. Regarding security, we had 2 rooms, both had unlocked windows which were hard to lock, and the deadbolt can only be locked when you are inside the room. So when you leave your belongings inside, a flimsy door knob lock is all that protects them. Also be careful not to lock yourself out when you step outside for a moment, keep your key with you because the door knob lock is set to lock when the door closes. Breakfast in the dining room was enjoyable and tasty. Overall a very nice place, we would not hesitate to return. read more

My wife and I were on a getaway weekend to destress a bit. We found ourselves in Mount Vernon and started to look for a place for the night. We saw the high rating in yelp and decided to see if we could get accommodations. We had just finished a wonderful dinner (thanks to the reviews from yelp) at a local restaurant. We were close by and drove 6 blocks to the Mount Vernon Inn. It was beautiful and very well kept from the outside. I walked in and was very pleased with the victorian style and plush decor. They just had a cancelation otherwise they were full. I would highly recommend reservations, but give them a try if you don't have them. You will be glad you did as we were. The English garden is beautiful. The room had all the emenities of upscale Inns and very quaint. The staff was very courteous, friendly, and professional. Breakfast came with the room and it was outstanding. You could order from the menu or select from the buffet. The French Toast was some of the best we ever had. This is an oasis we will be coming back to when ever we need to unwind and relax. I must say, this exceeded our expectations. read more
