Moving is stressful, heightened with the pandemic, and even more so for a first time home buyer. I called a few places, and Danny from Veterans Movers called and was very much available to me. They scheduled a zoom/facetime walk-thru of my apartment to see what I needed and to give me a better quote. I had started packing already and got all my own boxes so it was easy to see what I had left. What I really liked was the 'no BS' hidden fees. It was one price that wouldn't change, no matter the hours or added last minute box. Of course my move was scheduled and it had to snow. Thankfully this didn't stop them. 4 guys showed up right on time (during a snow storm on a friday morning rush hour in the city). They walked thru and got a game plan, then brought up all the blankets and plastic wrap and got to work. TVs were dismounted and put in boxes, mattresses were put in boxes as well. The amount of blankets they used to wrap my furniture made me so happy. While they took their time, they were still hustling - running from the truck to the apartment. Once we got to my new place, they covered my stairs with runners and wore plastic booties to ensure my floors weren't messed up. I wish I had bought the wall mount for my TVs for my new place, because they offered to set me up. The only thing I was disappointed about was that my couch didn't fit thru the garage entry so it was left in the garage. I wish they had tried thru the front door but they were adamant that it still wouldn't fit. After 7 hours, I wasn't going to push them. Regardless, would 100% recommend Veterans Movers and also hope Roadway doesn't ruin this small-business. I wish I could remember the 4 guys that helped me move to give them a shoutout! once you agree to a price and give the $100 deposit to secure your booking, that's when they will constantly remind you to give 18%-25% tip in several emails. They even put up a website to explain why you need to give that much tip. do the movers get a restaurant wait staff salary? i gave a $440 tip. they certainly didn't deserve it. read more

I have to say the movers were friendly and helpful but so many of my items were broken or scratched. Two of my favorite tables had a scratch and five pieces of pottery were broken. Every time I called the customer service could not answer my questions and my boxes looked like they were thrown around. Both the people who packed and unpacked were hard working but I was overall disappointed. They called me on the day of the move and tried to increase the price despite multiple calls prior to get an accurate assessment with the sales woman. I have not written a review before but I suggest proceeding with caution and taking your valuables separately. Getting a quote: I reached out to about 10 different moving companies. Most of them never bothered to get back to me. Scott from Veteran called and left me a pleasant and professional voicemail. I called him back; and this was the beginning of my great experience. He clearly and plainly walked through everything step-by-step. No haggling, no hidden nonsense. Just professional, friendly, patient service. In a world of crappy customer service, I was so pleased with the clear and consistent and honest communication. Here's the thing; the quote was 1/2 what everyone else was quoting me. It also was an 'all-in' quote. It didn't include hidden charges or hourly fees that would wind up mounting up on me. That's a huge plus. Setting up the move: I gave them an approximate list of my items, and they said that if things changed to just shoot them a note and let them know. I asked if I was over by a certain amount if it would impact the cost. It wouldn't! If it was a huge difference, then maybe. Again, that de-stressed things. Most people don't have a good sense of everything they have. Pro-tip that they told me, some days of the week and days of the month are less costly than others. The move out: Howard G, James B, and Shakur E called me when they were on their way, and the arrived promptly. James led the team and explained every single step they would take that day and walked through all of it patiently. He walked through all the belongings with me and looked them all over and checked against his list. Introduced each of the members of the team that would be working with me that day. We talked a bit. I liked them. They then patiently and carefully carried everything out. They wrapped all my furniture. Asked questions whenever they needed to about a given item they were going to wrap. The move in: I moved to a 3rd floor walkup. They marched each and every item carefully up the steps and into the new place. It was a sight to be seen. When we ran into a problem with the couch. I found the PDF instructions of it and they carefully disassembled it and brought it in. Wasn't a thought in their mind. Just did it. I had an item that didn't fit properly and they even wrapped it back up for me and brought it back out so that I could take care of it. The end result: Not a single item of mine was chipped, damaged, broken, or mishandled. I expected to have damage. Not because I thought they weren't careful, but because that always happens when moving. To my utter shock; not a single thing. Not a single break. Nothing. They accomplished something only a crew of military veterans who care could do; a flawless execution. A few thoughts: This company was purchased by Roadway. I hope that Roadway doesn't mess with them. They're doing it right. Don't break a good thing. Keep hiring veterans. Keep letting them do a great job. I've had a great experience with Veteran Movers. They were really friendly and the customer service is top notch. After a brief initial phone call, I had a free in-person inspection to account for all my items for the move. They gave me a good quote, mentioning that they're able to be more competitive with cheaper companies for cross-country moves like mine. Even though another company was a few hundred bucks cheaper, I went with Veteran because unlike the competitors, they don't subcontract: it's all handled by Veteran Movers and/or Roadway (who owns Veteran). The customer service rep who did the inspection became my point person, helping me with contract questions and letting me update my list of items through the morning of my move. The movers themselves were similarly great: they were really careful about wrapping all my furniture, and dealt with my big cumbersome art pieces with aplomb. The movers were also incredibly fast--way quicker than any move I've had before, but I guess that's what happens when you have a flat rate instead of hourly. read more

As I mentioned in my previous review, I had some trouble getting ahold of customer service to update my credit card on file. I had asked in advance not to charge the card on file and was told that I would be able to swap it out before the final charge went through. Unfortunately, the wrong card was used to pay the total amount. Not only did Chakira and Danielle help me update my credit card payment, but they even credited back my deposit for the inconvenience. They followed up with me almost daily to give me updates. I wasn't expecting to hear from them after the move, and I truly appreciate their response to my previously negative experience. My niece needed a mover to help her moved out of her home to her first big girl apartment in the city, she called around and gotten quotes from different places and asked for my opinion before selecting a mover, without naming other places some vendors didn't took her too seriously and some even tried to hustle her into things that she probably don't need (trying to get her to pay for carpenter service to take the legs off the kitchen table, what?) I saw the quotes she have received and did what most nosy aunt would have done, I called veteran movers and spoke Jose who was assisting my niece with her move, he was pleasant and very patient with all my questions, since my niece didn't have a corporate budget and other than her building requiring licensed and insured movers her move is fairly simple, this is in my opinion as good as it is going to get in NYC. On the move day I gave a ride to my niece to her new apartment and met the gentlemen who helped her move, everything was as promised and our movers were friendly and respectful the entire time (I normally don't like be called Ma'am but the way they said it was different and you can tell it is out of respect and not annoyance) The movers were fast but careful and worked like clockwork, I have moved numerous times in the past myself so while not an expert in moving they certainly earned their business. read more

Wonderful experience with this company from start to finish. We needed stuff moved from our office in lower Manhattan to a storage unit in Jersey City, and our inventory changed a bit right before the move. Their office staff was courteous, accommodating, and made the process smooth from start to finish. The office building we were leaving was another story. They screwed up our move-out date, denied the COI the morning of our move, and our movers ended up waiting outside the building for three hours before the building would approve and let them inside (and they had shown up right on time at the anticipated start time of the move). Despite the huge inconvenience, and the ridiculous stipulations of our building, our 4 movers were cool, calm, and positive throughout the entire move (which was great because I was a frantic mess). Our move completed about 4 weeks ago, and I'm glad I've finally forced myself to write this brief review, because I relied heavily on Yelp reviews when making our decision on moving companies to get us out of NYC without issue. We had a great experience and I'm happy we went with this company. It is important for customers to understand that "Veteran Movers NYC" is a semi-office/front/Tshirt company "on top of" the company that does the labor itself: "Roadway Moving" (https://www.roadwaymoving.com/). Not that there's anything wrong with this, but it's useful to note. Now, Veteran did not come out to do a pre-move inspection and inventory. We did the inventory over the phone and I sent pictures to confirm. However, the phone agent did say I could have someone come out if I really wanted it, so it sounds like that's available if it really makes you more comfortable as a customer. We did not have a lot of furniture, but the mattresses and one decent wood table arrived perfectly, and, much to our delight, even the cheap- and mid-priced chairs and particle board furniture arrived without issue. It's important to note that all customers have to sign statements agreeing that because it is so flimsy, particle board-based furniture is not the responsibility of the moving company in the event of any damages. Still, we had no damages. Day-of pickup went well (we highly recommend you pay for their packing services, as they are the experts, not us customers), the movers arrived on time, and the overall 1-bedroom move with packing took about 4 hours. We made a few last-minute changes and were well within the minimum weight, and the guys didn't complain and did a great job. Rodney, Michael, and Diony were our movers that day, and they did great, especially the lead, Rodney. Remember to have cold water ready, tip, and provide some good food for them afterwards if you can. ---------------------- Pickup to delivery was about twelve (12) calendar days. Nice. On the delivery end, there was a small error with the new address. We'd found and moved into our place a few days before the shipment arrived to our destination, and I'd called the office to report the final correct destination address before any delivery driver called me to schedule delivery. I believe he called me the next day, and I made a rookie mistake when moving: I did not confirm (a 2nd or 3rd or 10th time) the NEW delivery address. So where was he when he called to say "I'm outside!"? Of course, they were at the "old" or backup destination address we'd written down, of a family member. We rescheduled for the next day. Small hiccup, and while perhaps not technically my "fault," it's something which both the customer and driver should always re-confirm (and re-re-confirm) before final delivery. Overall, the move was about 99% perfect. One of our metal swiffer poles (that connects to the swiffer on the ground) was slightly dinged/bent but still straight enough to function without issues. Also, we have not yet found a small night light we had in the bathroom that we really liked. It was cheap (~$5 or less?) but we confirmed it wasn't in the house when we moved out. It may have been our error, or perhaps it's still hiding in a random corner somewhere we haven't seen yet, but it is a bit strange. There was also one good kitchen knife which my wife believes is missing, since it was her favorite, but I think we stopped using that specific one a while ago, donated it, and there's another explanation. All our other kitchen cutlery arrived together, just the way I remember bundling it together, so I think the error was ours. I find the probability that that specific knife was stolen (especially since everything else valuable was delivered) or "misplaced" far lower than that we made an error on our end. ---------------------- Like many people, we did not have our final destination confirmed until we arrived and found a place to rent, so the company (as is standard) charged the $225 fee to transfer all cargo into a smaller "shuttle" truck before arriving at the final destination. If the customer's house can accommodate a massive 40+ foot container truck parked outside, that transfer isn't necessary and that money isn't charged. In our case, it was refunded, and that's why I note this paragraph: the refund took a few days, but was pretty simple and without issue. Some companies' office-to-field communication might make a simple refund like that take weeks and multiple calls, but it was easy here. ---------------------- All in all, that's an almost perfect cross country move, with a smooth pickup, short transit time, and smooth delivery. I'll break this review down into two sections. Booking and Moving. Booking - This was super easy...quick response to an email inquiry followed by a phone call. I didn't have many specifics because I was moving out of a storage unit (who remembers what you put in a storage unit years ago?) and the agent was totally accommodating. Then, when there was some confusion about the quote, the agent saw the mistake that was made and they sent me a check for the difference. I mean, seriously, how many times have you had an experience with a moving company this honest and responsible? Moving - We had two guys show up to do the move. They were both incredibly friendly, responsible, and made me feel very comfortable knowing that they were handling my move. While I didn't ask them about their military background, I felt that they understood how to do a job and do it well and respectfully. I am always very worried about using a new moving company as we have many delicate and expensive items. I have no hesitation recommended Veteran Movers to anyone who has a local NY move and will use them again when the opportunity arises! read more

This is my 4th time moving with Veteran Movers and I can't speak more highly of their services. They are the only movers I trust with my possessions. Osvaldo Martinez and his team were very careful and respectful of all my possessions - from high value fragile pieces to less - they treat every item with so much care. Osvaldo even fixed a drawer of mine that's been broken for years. I had forgotten to list a few items like plants and extra kitchen boxes and they took them with no issue. So I scheduled Veteran Movers to handle my 2BR apartment moving to our first home based off of reviews here and recommendations from friends. lets start with the good.. they showed up when they said they would. I had 2 couches, 1 chair, 1 end table, 1 coffee table, 2 tv stands, a dining room set, 1 tv, a few chest peices and my king bedroom set THATS IT quote was 1400.00. lol it took them 5 HOURS to load the truck (after my wife had to tell them REPEATEDLY to WRAP the furniture) i emailed Jose about 10x beforehand letting him know that the bedroom set was VERY important and needed to be wrapped/padded, etc. dudes put the headboard upside down on the most fragile part, in their truck. Lets just say, after they got everything out, and unpacked, my couches were undamaged, but everything else? what wasnt scuffed, cracked, broken... absolutely AWFUL service. all in all, it took them close to TEN HOURS (ill allow them 90 min travel time), but a full day to move this.. i could have done it better myself, and should have. they sent me a check for 250.00 for my condolences. what a joke. dont use this company at the end of the month, they wont send any "veterans" they'll send some 18 year old kid they pulled off the street on a busy day. they have alot of good reviews, but not this one, sorry. huge disappointment. and because i didnt buy "third party" insurance from them, i was stuck with a measly 250 bux for all the damage Curio cabinet, headboard, footboard, dresser, dining room table, dining room chair, book case, all trash now. read more

This was my third time using Veterans, and although they have all been great experiences, the team of Luis, Jonathan, Alex, and Jason were head and shoulders above the rest. We had a somewhat complicated move - packing a Brooklyn apartment into Veterans' truck, driving the stuff upstate, then loading everything from that truck and the contents of an upstate house into a 26-foot Uhaul. This team nailed it in every respect. You want movers who will take as much care when packing your stuff as you would. These guys didn't do that. They were much, much more careful than I would have been. They cushion-wrapped my mattress! All four guys were super thorough and professional, exceptionally kind, and just amazingly hard working. I think our belongings would have been just fine if I had driven the UHaul off a cliff. (I did not drive the UHaul off a cliff, in part because Luis gave me some excellent advice on driving it with the load we had.) I don't think anything in the truck moved an inch. We hired movers in Chicago to unload the truck, and they were marveling at how amazingly thorough and meticulous the loading and wrapping job was on everything. If you ever have a sensitive, difficult job, I wouldn't hesitate to use Veterans. And if you get Luis, Jonathan, Alex, and Jason, you're in excellent hands. read more

From the initial call with Joe who set up my inventory and move details, I was extremely happy with his attention to detail and the overall price moving from NJ to Hell's Kitchen. My building initially agreed to allow me to move in on Good Friday, however, two days before the move they informed me no moves are allowed on that date. This is quite possibly the worst thing that could happen to an organized person such as myself. But Veteran Movers was able to accommodate my last minute request to move it to Thursday. On the day of the move Jose, Cleveland and Brian showed up on time and packed/moved me into my new apartment in the city. I wanted to like this company. (My uncles are veterans.) But the customer service has been so bad that I have to give it one star (and write my first Yelp review). (1) I was charged an extra $210 without my knowledge or consent, which I only discovered when I went into my credit card account. No one has contacted me to explain why or even provide a receipt; (2) they dragged my daughter's dresser across our newly installed wood floor and caused scratching throughout (I feel bad for the guy who did it; he carried most of the heavy items upstairs by himself, but that is a management issue; they brought three guys: no excuse to have one drag a heavy piece of furniture across the apartment by himself); (3) as part of moving my neighbors, they damaged the walls of the common hallway. Everyone makes mistakes, so I pretty much follow the three strike rule. One or two can just be unlucky or human mistake. Three is a pattern. The worst part of it is the absolute lack of communication or regard for these issues now that they have charged me (and over charged me). I had three separate contacts with the company last week (2 calls and and email) and in each one I mentioned my invoice and/or balance and specifically sought to confirm that I had fully paid. As soon as I discovered the overcharge early this morning while feeding my baby, I called and left a message and emailed them, so it could be handled first thing today. In the email, I mentioned all of the issues above and still no response. My only recourse is to cancel through the credit card company and write this review so hopefully others do not have the same experience. Someone mentioned below they are now linked to Roadway movers and the movers who came to my apartment appeared to be affiliated with Roadway, so maybe that explains why my customer service experience has been so bad, when others had such a good experience. read more

From taking the inventory, to setting up payment, to them actually moving my wife and I, they handled their work and our belongings with the utmost respect. Aside from the moving aspect, there are many people who want to thank our Veterans but don't know how to properly do so. When hiring Veteran Movers, you not only get a great moving company, but you get a chance to pay it forward by thanking the REAL Hero's in this world that go underappreciated every day. Third time using Veterans Movers and it was just as good as before. I moved on a Sunday afternoon and so I was already the second move of the day. I've used Veterans in 2012 and 2014, and now 2017. They now use a branded moving truck and have more paperwork, all with getting more and more professional. The online form I used first was great, and when I forgot a few things I just emailed and had them added to the list. The move quote that I got was cheaper than my other moves and compared to other moving companies, was in the middle/cheaper than those other companies. I have a lot of stuff, however I have moved it multiple times now so I know what I have. Joe on the phone could not believe the number of boxes I had, as well as other furniture, but I was very detailed in my list. I also packed the vast majority of things in small boxes due to their weight; however the movers commented on this that it was packed well and they appreciated it. I was given a window of 2-4pm for the afternoon slot, so I was the second move of the day. They arrived promptly at 2pm, and had called me around 1pm to let me know when to expect them. The three Veterans who moved my stuff were Tenzin, Quentin and E.T. They were all very nice and helpful, explaining what they were doing with the furniture and pointing out what I could do to fix an issue on my kitchen table. It wasn't as hot as it could have been for a summer day, but it was still hard work that they were doing and I provided bottles of water which they were happy and appreciative to have (tip for anyone who might use Veterans). It took a little longer to get the stuff out of my old place because the building involved stairs and an elevator, but drop off at the new place was extra fast. This review is way long over due.I moved back in February this year but it has been on the back of my mind to leave a review because Veteran Movers were just amazing. They made our moving day stress-free and seamless. They treated all my boxes, furniture and electronics with extreme care and caution and even worked with me so that I could check things off my inventory list, as well as consulting with me about which rooms/areas everything should go. All the guys were really, really sweet, personable, and friendly. And not to mention, freakishly STRONG. They weren't the cheapest of the quotes I received, but I don't regret going with Veteran Movers one bit. It also feels great knowing that we were able to support a veteran owned business. I will most definitely be hiring them for all future moves and I recommend to anyone in search of reliable movers to look no further and book with these guys. read more

Quite simply--these guys were great. After living in the same spot for 20 years, we moved and hired this moving company. Having never used a company before, I was nervous. As soon as they arrived, they took charge and handled everything perfectly. All our stuff arrived safely. All the guys were friendly and professional, specifically Ronny, who was in charge, was amazing. I'm hoping never to move again, but if I did, I would use these guys. The total Veteran Movers experience was fabulous from the first phone call to the last box! In my initial contact, Joe couldn't have been more helpful or nicer. The paperwork process was straightforward and not complicated. If I had a question, there was always someone there for support.
