Well, if wasn't for the rude guy at the parking lot, it would be an OK restaurant. This guy is so rude. He started saying: "no towel, just eating and leave" WHAT???????!!! We stayed there for 3 hours and spent a lot of money. And he was still making that horrible face like he was doing us a favor. Ok. Next day, we came back, just because that was the place with infrastructure to be with little kids and access to the beach. When we drop off the car, he said: JUST EAT AND LEAVE. I took a deep breath to not say anything else. We will be here for some minutes though, until we find a more welcoming place. So, this guy made the experience terrible. The line to get food is big and the food is ok. No big deal at all. The drinks are more expensive than usual. So definitely, we are just paying to be in front of the beach and have a bathroom for the kids. read more

Great location, overlooking the Gulf of Mexico along with a large patio for eating and enjoying drinks. It is family friendly. That said, the food is better not good and fair. Pub grub is the style but unfortunately, it is not executed very well. One of our favorite dining options on the island. Whether we are staying at Sanibel or Captiva we always try to make our way here. Ambiance is nice. You have two options. Place an order, pick up your food, and sit outside. No waiting service. They have an outdoor bar too. Or normal sit down restaurant service inside. Inside is always nice and cool. The beach is within walking distance. The food is always good, and the fish is always fresh. You can park at the restaurant lot, enjoy your meal, then head to the beach after. read more

This is a very relaxed and casual pub on Captiva. It isn't upscale like a lot of the other places which is refreshing. There is a good crowd and the owner as well as his employees are wonderful. They have a variety of beers on tap as well as wine (can purchase the bottle as well), and full liquor. They have a restaurant and bar inside and outside. They also have chairs right on the beach. If you are using your gps and just type in "mucky duck" it will bring you to the wrong location. You need to type in the physical address to make sure you end up where you need to be. Parking can be tough so if you are staying on the island i recommend walking or take an Uber if possible. read more

This restaurant has the best location to watch the sunset on Captiva Island... I have been going there for over 20 years and have enjoyed a bowl of clam chowder and beer on their outdoor patio where there is usually a guitar player. Unfortunately management have NEW RULES ! They have a small "outdoor" appetizer menu which does not include clam chowder... SOUP NAZI'S! When I asked why I can no longer take a bowl of chowder outdoors I was told that it slows down the kitchen operation during dinner hours... so the new outdoor menu includes oysters in a white wine sauce, bacon wrapped bbq shrimp & a few other expensive items... Ah! There's the rub! Chowder is a cheap appetizer... you can't tell me that it's easier to make oysters or bacon wrapped shrimp is more time consuming than a bowl of chowder???!!! Very small restaurant and very little parking- but we were lucky, got a spot right away about 30 minutes before sunset, sat outside and listened to live music while having a drink and waiting for our table. We were told 45 minutes and waited about 35 minutes. We ordered sea food items and everything was great, we also got a great table right at the window- I would say this restaurant is better for parties of 4 or less, maybe 6, but the groups did not have a lot of room, one group had a table about 3 feet from the restroom entrance. We chose this restaurant because we wanted to see the sunset and we got exactly what we wanted! There's a bunch of seats on their patio to watch the sunset. Perfect location. Parking was a nightmare, but the views were worth it. It was extremely crowded but as to be expected on a Saturday night. The food was very good. I got the pasta special with shrimp. The shrimp were huge and fresh and portion size was amazing and had a lot leftover. Wine selection wasn't great, kinda pricey. The fish and chips entree was a big disappointment. Way overpriced three commercial grade frozen battered fish fingers that resembled a glorified fish stick with a hand full of dry fries. You can buy the same thing at your grocer's freezer section and get the same result. We are on Florida's coast; fresh seafood is available! Even the grocers sell fresh seafood, including cod. There are plenty of food options out there. Don't just settle for the location. Don't waste your money. read more

Except for a beautiful sunset we were not impressed with the Mucky Duck and especially with our server Adam. He was asked about a few entrees and which he might recommend or which are the more popular, his reply was something along the lines of I don't know. When asked if the swordfish was fresh or frozen I replied " probably". I would think a server would or should know the answer or at least find out. My steak came out very well done instead of medium rare as ordered. The other three entrees in our party were ok but nothing that would bring us back. It's very crowded, all tables are too close together. Of the six Sanibel restaurants we dined at during our trip the Mucky Duck was the least favorite. But hey, it was a nice sunset. read more

We heard so many good things about this restaurant and made sure we stop by during our trip to Captiva. Most people recommended this place because of the sunset. Unfortunately, it was raining the day we came there. There was a bit of a wait. Note that they don't have a liquor license so you can only order wine, beer or wine-based vodka. Once seated, I ordered the crusted Mahi and my husband the pasta with chicken . I loved my dish. For desert, we had a scrumptious tuxedo cheesecake. This is an absolute amazing location and looked like a great place for lunch or dinner. We came for lunch on a rainy day on our girls' trip to Sanibel, we were quickly seated and our server, Brian took our drink and appetizer order. He returned with drinks and we ordered our meals, what alarmed me was that he did not write anything down. Now I have seen some servers do this with no issue, but this was not the case for our party. There were six of us and he came back to me and asked me what I had ordered. That had raised my level of concern, but he returned shortly after with our orders. This would have been commendable had our appetizers come out prior to that. He also forgot a drink order or two. The food was very good and he was pleasant and apologetic, which is the reason for my rating. I suggest he write down orders in the future. The Mucky Duck red lager was an exceptional beer and went well with my oyster po boy !! Great location and food, we actually will return. read more

Best place at the water to grab a sandwich after a long day of fishing! Home away from home!

I was in this establishment on August 26, 2023, me, and my wife walked halfway through the bar before they asked us for our ID. I was then asked to come back to the door where they checked me for weapons and not my wife with a wand. Then I was asked to tuck in my cross necklace, it's a simple necklace, no jewelry on it silver chain with the cross. I refused and went to my table to meet the people we were there with. It took us 30 minutes to get our drinks, the waitress was rude and snobby, and we never saw her after that, and had to the bar to get drinks. I was again asked to tuck in my necklace. I asked why and they said it is considered gang affiliated, I said I'm not in a game, and they said well it could also be offensive to some of our other guests. I refused to tuck it in, and I was asked to leave. I will not be back to this establishment, and I will be telling everyone about this experience. read more

The location is perfect. At the very end of the road leading to the beach. This is a great spot to catch the sunset from a picnic table with a drink in your hand and lice music in the background. It really begins to fill up outside as sunset approaches. It is very convenient that they have an outdoor bar but there is also one inside for when it gets too busy. read more

Once we got into the restaurant, we had a good experience. Food was nothing spectacular but was tasty pub-grub seafood, better than average. And the location/view cannot be beat. But the overall experience was somewhat enraging. Admittedly, part of the problems just have to do with Captiva in March, but the Mucky Duck itself deserves a lot of the blame. I'd heard that parking was a challenge so I called ahead to ask about it. I felt that the guy wasn't really answering my question so I said, "I just want to know, if we want to come for lunch, when can I arrive to not worry about parking." He said, "oh, there's a public lot a half mile up the beach, so you can just park there and walk down." That sounds good to us. We arrive at that public lot at 10:30 AM. It is a small lot with room for 20 cars-- totally full, a small line already of people idling. A woman told me that she waited there for 30 minutes + before a spot opened the day before. Then we think, "OK, the Mucky Duck opens at 11:30, we'll just go now and hang out. Parking lot is empty at 10:40 but there's a guard outside who says "no beach parking!" We say, no, we are eating here, we'll just wait. The guy: "No you can't park here until 11:15." Us: your lot is empty, and where else can we park? He doesn't know, just tells us to go away, basically. We literally don't know what to do at this point. We finally find a Starbucks with room to park -- turns out they have artificially jacked up prices so a latte is like $6. I vowed never to go back to Captiva in March. And I'm especially pissed at the guy who answered the phone who fed me what was basically an outright lie about parking possibilities. Great view though. read more

Giving this place one star doesn't even begin to articulate my experience. This was a horrible experience from the beginning!! The staff was seemingly put out to having guests and made it obvious. Our waitress was rude, short and had a major negative attitude. When asked for napkins she rolled her eyes, came back 5 minutes later and slammed them on our table. She rarely came back to check on us and made a point to remind us that she had brought us extra napkins. The food was horrible. Everything was fried to a crisp and rock hard. When I'm spending over $100 on lunch, I expect good service and decent food. We didn't receive any of the above. IMO, I wouldn't waste my time or money. read more

We shared the house salad, which was quite good except for the underripe tomatoes (but who has ripe tomatoes in April?) They were out of the salmon en croute I wanted, so I ordered the crunchy grouper sandwich instead. My husband ordered the seafood platter (at the top of the menu, not the 2nd half!) Both dishes were amazing: my sandwich was perfectly fried and crispy and still tasted like fish. My husband's bacon-wrapped shrimp, fried cod, and fried shrimp were equally good. We ordered dessert; my husband's fudge sundae was the better choice. I got the créme brûlée cheesecake, which, I'm sorry to say, was nothing special--it was fine but very mild in flavor and not as sweet as I expected. The Costco cheesecake I had had recently was actually better. Their mucky duck margarita was also fine, but not super special. The view onto the beach with the sunset was fabulous. Service was fine, although my husband had to ask for extra water and the waitress took a long time getting back to us when we looking at the menu. A few of us ordered the coconut shrimp and couldn't even hardly eat it. It had that terrible frozen food taste & was clearly not fresh shrimp. We drove from Naples and brought a cooler with water and beer to go to the beach either before or after our meal. Not being from the area we had no idea what parking would be like at the restaurant. We called when we were 5 minutes away and asked how long the wait would be. It was 40 minutes and we were told there was onsite parking (with not clear stipulations on how the parking lot worked). Knowing it was a 40 minute wait, I dropped off three members of our party outside the restaurant and they headed to the hostess stand to put our name down. They also brought our cooler and beach towels to wait by the beach. I proceeded to the parking area and was abruptly reprimanded for using the parking area for beach access. To which I tried to explain the above while being repeatedly cutoff. I politely left and said I would come back when the table was ready. I came back 30 minutes later (10 minutes before when we expected our table was ready). Again was yelled at for not following the rules and was told everyone needed to get back in the car with all the beach stuff. We got back in the car with all our coolers and left to wait for a text from the restaurant. After an hour we called to ask where we were in line. At first a woman answered and said she couldn't find us on the list. Then a man got on and said they had called our name but that we must have missed it because we were not on the property and texts don't always go through. It was clearly the man from the parking lot and it was obvious they had just removed us from the waiting list. The guy was unreasonably angry to a point where I question if he was sober. I'll end this complaint with a final note - I get it, it's the only beach bar in a wealthy and remote island town. There are probably dozens of people a day that try to take advantage of the parking situation. They are going to continue to rake in cash. However, if you a principled person like I am consider taking your business elsewhere. read more

My table first ordered drinks which cost 12 dollars for a coke and a lemonade. I normally reserve 5 star ratings for truly out of this world gastronomical experiences but in this case the fact this place sits on the beach and the food is 4 stars I'm going to go 5. I have visited sanibel and dined in captiva for over 30 years but had only visited the lmucky duck once as that one time I was not impressed with the food and had not been back: big mistake! This week was our anniversary and we decided to get there early and watch the sunset. We found parking no problem and proceeded to he outdoor bar got a couple of drinks and went out to the beach to watch the sunset. If you are not familiar that is a religion (rightfully so) in west Florida. After the free show (see my pic) we sat on the outdoor picnic tables and finished our drinks. We were planning to go to the bubble room but instead decided to stay for dinner based on yelp reviews. We got a great table by the window still overlooking the beach. I ordered a grilled platter that included, 2 barbecue shrimp, 2 fried scallops, a crab cake, a nice piece of fish, awesome mashed potatoes, garlic green beans and 1/4 lb of the best peel and eat shrimp I have tried in along time. At $26 I though that was a great deal and had leftovers for lunch the next day. My wife ordered the crunchy grouper platter. It's breaded with corn flakes and after two weeks or ordering this dish all over sanibel i can Say this was the best version we tried. The place is an old beach house with all kind of stuff on the walls (next to us we're police patches and all sort of old buttons) so it's a cool atmosphere. The service is excellent. I can say without a doubt I'll be back way before 30 years. This will now be a place I look forward to visiting yearly on my sanibel vacation. read more

Go pretty much ANYWHERE in the WORLD, and mention The Mucky Duck and YEP! most people have eaten there. To get to The Duck one must drive from Ft. Meyers over the causeway bridge to Sanibel Island, thru the Island of Sanibel over Blind Pass Bridge to Capitiva Island, about 1 hour's drive. So worth the drive! Capitiva is this long and narrow spaghetti noodle of an Island. Check out the amazing homes during your drive which are magnificent and have their own personal names and custom mail boxes. There are many hotel and motel choices on the Island. Most Tourists who stay on the Island HAVE to go to either the Mucky Duck or Bubble Room. We only had time to visit the Mucky Duck during our recent trip. The Duck has their private parking lot which is adjacent to the Beach. CAUTION: Do Not park in the lot and then go to the Beach, you will be cited. Yes, there is a "guy" in the lot watching for Beach goers versus restaurant diners. The Duck doesn't take reservations but, the wait goes pretty quickly. Grab a drink a the bar and take a seat on the outdoor patio. If you don't want to eat inside the Duck, order your food at the bar and take it "to go" and dine on the LARGE patio area. We started our Lunch with the Duck Fingers. Battered duck with a raspberry sauce, YUM! The Hubby and I usually share 2 meals: our favs are the Grouper Sandwich and the Seafood Platter. It's like going back to a charming English Pub. read more

One of our favorites. Disappointed that the scallops au gratin are off the menu. I had the BBQ bacon shrimp and oysters Rockefeller. Both were delicious. My wife had the ribeye and my son had the shrimp sampler. His favorite was the crunchy shrimp. Great view and location. We go every time we are in town. read more

Absolutely disgusting prison takeaway would rather have 6 hour old McDonald's food than this train wreck. This is the worst fish and chips I have seen. Worst than Arthur Treachers and priced like fine dining. Been coming here since I was a young kid. Never a complaint. You Can only order off a menu with about 5 items on it for outdoor eating or you have to take it off the property. To eat the normal menu you must sit inside. Has the ownership changed. Fun little beach bar right on the beach (gulf side)! Great outside area where you can get drinks with sun or shade. Downside: they don't have full strength liquor here - they use a wine based liquor because they don't have their liquor license or something. Beer and wine is all you get at full strength. (would have had 4 stars without this) Be careful: Eating outside - you order inside and you can only do this before 3 or after 5. Also, you pick up your own food when they call your name.
