I entered this place in a BAD mood but am feeling better as I leave. The staff was friendly and you can tell they work very hard. I'm rating it 4/5 stars because I think their bread was equivalent to a hamburger bun from the grocery store. Also my Cesar salad was eh. Mozzarella sticks? Fire. Smoked salmon? Visited for the 2nd time... first time was fine- but what happened to customer service? The people were rood and clearly did not want our business. Half of our crew in our golf cart were getting food, the other few were headed to the beach. Completely attacked our group about parking and they lost our business for good. We come to Captiva year after year and won't even purchase a bottle of water at The Mucky Duck. The only thing going for this business is their location- that's it! I believe their employees must reflect the attitudes of management where they don't care about people because they know they have a great location for sunsets. The employees are VERY RUDE, from the ones on the inside to the Hispanic parking lot attendant on the outside!!! So we went to Captive to try and continue to promote business there due to Hurricane Ian. My wife and I ate inside great view of the Gulf. I ordered their Captiva sandwich my wife ordered the seafood platter. She loved her meal, my sandwich had absolutely No flavor!!Also it came with cold slaw and a pickle spear they were so warm they were terrible! The Mucky Deck is a Captiva staple. Ive been for dinner but the real time to go is at sunset and getting some beers at the bar to watch it. It definitely gets crowded so I recommend getting their early if you plan to eat - the place was packed! It's a great spot that is right on the water so you can walk along the beach afterwords or go into town and walk around too. 10/10. read more

Been going here for over 20 years, always had an enjoyable time. We come by boat from a neighboring island and walk from our slip. Get there for a little after 11am to snag a table outside. Today we had a party of 10, 2 tables, we ate, we drank, after 2 of the kids were done eating they went to check out the beach. The minute we signed our check we were told we had to leave, couldn't even sit and finish our newly purchased drinks. "This isn't beach parking the manager said several times" but we weren't there for the beach, we had been there a little over an hour and were still enjoying our drinks, as it approached 1pm we were told we had to move from our table. Really!?! In years past this place was a great place to sit and eat and drink and enjoy the view, now they are more interested in getting you in and out then they are you enjoying your experience. We asked if we could see the menu again and we could order more food to warrant us sitting at a table, nope, we were told we had to vacate our table (now down to only 1 table instead of 2) and get back in line and wait?!? What? Never at a restaurant have I asked to spend more money and been told to get back in line. Best of all they were all out of duck! Always loved this place, not any more, staff was seriously rude especially the female manager who completely disregarded the fact that we were paying patrons who had just enjoyed 10 meals, she was more concerned with the parking mess and the line up of people waiting for a table. Neither of which were our problem... it's become more of a mainstream factory then a fun place to have a bite and a drink. We won't be back and it's a shame. Waste of $300 just to be rushed out the minute we stopped chewing. Green Flash has plenty of parking and better service. read more

Typical bar food . Slow service parking lot attendant kick out parking space. Attendant gave space to other car that arrived after us. Attendant advised to go down the street to park no open spaces located. Finally located open space. After dinner while leaving took 3min take pictures in front restaurant on beach. The loud speaker advised no beach parking are you freakin kidding me just spent $85.00 and tipped staff. I would.not recommend anyone to dine . I love this place for its location and atmosphere and sunsets. I can't give it a five star because the food is good, but not great. However, when I look at everything overall, it's a place that we look forward to coming to, and I think that if you are visiting either of the islands, you really need to go here and catch a sunset on Captiva. Have a drink on the patio, and wait for your turn to get some food inside. It is one of my families favorite places to go for great memories. read more

After coming here every year for the last twenty years to eat a grouper sandwich and get a cold beer, the Mucky Duck has a new rule that will not allow to-go orders. The person who answered the phone was very rude, reporting 3 times that they have a new policy on take out. After asking if I could place my order to eat there, he reported 4 times that they were too busy to serve us. I guess with 2020 this is one tradition we won't continue. While so many restaurants are struggling due to the pandemic , it's frustrating to find that one we religiously visited has become too busy to accommodate a long term patron I will miss their fried grouper sandwich but not the $100+ check that came with it. read more

Food is great. The parking situation was our issue. We ate at the restaurant and then wanted to sit outside at one of their tables for drinks and go down to the beach. We went to our cars to grab towels and walked back to the patio. We were told we couldn't leave the property and go down to the beach if we were parking in their parking lot. Over half of our group was going to stay at the table and drink. We would have stayed all afternoon and bought drinks and maybe some apps but decided not to stay because of this. This was on a Thursday and the parking lot was pretty empty. read more

Outdoor eating is right on the beach! That's a 10 star. Even the "No-seeums" didn't detract from that. The draft selection is good and I enjoyed a slightly sweet mango beer. Service almost 5 star. Now food-keep in mind I have a palate for perfection. Seafood platter was not a feast- small piece of fish, clam strips and bits-meh, butterflied shrimp over cooked, best thing was the 2 peel'n'eat shrimp-nice size. Shrimp bisque looked curdled but I realized they grind up the shrimp into tiny bits which gives it that look. Flavor was ok but they could improve it by maintaining that luscious thick creamy base and incorporating pieces of shrimp about 1/4 inch size or so. I found that texture off-putting. I want shrimp big enough to chew and know it's shrimp and not curdled. Ceasat salad was very fresh and well dressed (not over dressed) but dressing lacked that slight lemon punch. My coconut shrimp was good but maybe not quite as good as Outback. The sauce was sweet and good but lacked that citrus tang, that to me defines coconut shrimp sauce. The key lime pie was partially frozen, and not creamy or limey enough. It had a pretty presentation but with a strawberry on top. Not a lime sliver? Overall, I would go back for that beach seating, a couple of draft, beers and appetizers. It is a special spot. You could even walk on the beach while you wait for your food, but the food does come out fairly quickly. read more

Don't go here unless you support homophobia, racism and servers putting their hands on you. Myself and 2 others went here and had the worst experience. One of my good friends is gay and just so happens to be Puerto Rican, it was his birthday. We had finished our meal and were waiting on dessert when one of the staff directed an older (white) couple to sit at the table directly next to us. All was okay until the older white male behind me heard my good friend open his mouth (he's gay, he's Puerto Rican) he's everything this older white man despises apparently. He let us know how he felt about his presence some of the "fa**ot, disgusting human being, gross, foreigner, doesn't belong here". We chose to ignore this disgusting excuse of a human being and tried to eat our desserts. After we had payed our bill and were finishing the dessert the man at the other table looked at his wife and said "I can't stand being next to him, they need to leave, it disgusts me". The man got up from his table and went to the hostess stand and started pointing at our table. Next thing you know a waitress with an attitude of a grease fire came up behind my friend and myself and grabbed onto my shoulder and squeezed with all her might while doing the same to my male gay friend. They should have a sign "go here if you want to get assaulted" on the front door. Then this waitress got into my face and started to tell me that the table next to us isn't happy with our language. I stopped her there and told her to immediately remove her hands from my body. She did but started to raise her voice about how we can't disrupt this tables meal and can't swear or do anything to make that table uncomfortable. The angry white older male from the "upset" table interrupted and said his issue isn't with me or my actions but he was upset with my gay friend. I looked at the waitress and told her "don't you dare ever put your hands on me again, and don't accost me when you don't even have the right information" she looked at me and said "I can do whatever I want, I've lived here 28 years". The angry male from the other table started to yell about how angry he was that he had to deal with people like my friend (gay people) I promptly asked for the manager, who had apparently left early that day, then we left shaking from the experience. I'm white, the other lady with us is white. This waitress assaulted us over a lie that the angry older white male made up and didn't even consider asking us what was going on before laying her hands on us. The only reason the Mucky Duck got two stars is because of the location. The hostess and server were both extremely rude. We were texted that our table was ready and still waited 20 minutes with no information from the hostess, even after asking multiple times. The server seemed fed up with our questions and had a horrible tone when answering. The best part was that our food was cold upon serving. However, the bar tender was extremely nice and friendly. Awesome food here. Went on a Monday afternoon for lunch. Cool decor with cloth emblems of different police departments throughout the United States. There are also a lot of college emblems there several for Mizzou. This is a very popular restaurant at the end of Sanibel island. This restaurant is most famous for its English Pub burger. Our server Rolando was very informative, got our orders correct and he was very patient. He was also good at discussing items such as Baseball. I had the snapper with a side salad. Both were awesome very tender and perfectly cooked snapper. The salad came with a raspberry vinaigrette and a vegetable called rosemary of palm which was a vegetable that I never had before. The rosemary of palm was like a cabbage. We also had oysters on the half shell which were good too. Not dry but tender, skin crispy and eat-it-all flavorful, sauced well -- not too much, and with a good slightly citrus sweet flavor. Add the baked sweet potato and some very good green beans, a Key West ale, and top it all off with the blueberry sour cream pie. Bang. Great and filling meal. Friendly and attentive server. We just stumbled on this Captiva Island gem during a day trip from Fort Myers Beach. What a prime location nearly on the beach overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The seafood was so fresh, and the staff topped off the experience with their attentive service. The only good thing about this place is the view, but it is not good enough to make up for everything else. The food was mediocre at best, the brownie was so dry it was not edible and I could have gone to the grocery store and bought a bigger and better shrimp cocktail for the same price. 5 pieces of frozen shrimp cocktail should not be served at any restaurant. If you want drinks make sure to get extras before your meal so you are not stuck in line while your food gets cold. We got there a few minutes before dinner opened and there was already an hour wait and you are not allowed to leave property and the wait quickly increased to 2+ hours, this was a Monday. We stopped at Mucky Duck to toast our deceased little brother's birthday. We were directed to a green table. When we told our server Lindsay that we were just here for a drink her attitude changed and she was not about us at all. I understand she would rather have a table full of pricey food and if we were hungry we would've ordered. It was off hours and she was still so rude. We ended up moving to a different table and she slapped our check on the table and told us if we wanted anything else we can get it from the inside bar. We didn't let it totally ruin our little celebration. But we noticed a lot of other customers complaining. The Mucky Duck was just absolutely splendid. If you're looking to muck, this establishment more than lives up to its memorable name. My wife and I immediately knew we would be well taken care of as soon as we descended from our tour tram and were greeted by a slightly sunburnt, jolly staff member with a trustworthy gleam in their eyes. We chose a table located pleasantly on the beach and the ordering process was very smooth. We received our steaming piles of slit sandwiches in a prompt 27 minutes, which is notably impressive for the crowd of people who were dining there for Christmas Eve's Eve. The sensation of feeling the sand in between our toes while tasting the delicious Captiva Island Sandwich prosciutto between our teeth is one we will both cherish for years to come. read more

Love, love, love, The Mucky Duck. You cannot beat the location. I have been coming here since I was a toddler and always have to stop by when visiting Sanibel/Captiva. The location is directly on the beach, you can watch the sunset while dining. My husband and I chose to eat inside because of the bugs and it was quite hot, but it was a great dining experience as well. They have large glass windows so you can still see the water and part of the sunset. I got a virgin version of their rum punch because I am pregnant, they were very accommodating and it was delicious. We started with the calamari, which was subpar, the only reason I am giving 4 stars. We wanted duck fingers but they were already out! We also had lobster bisque and Caesar salad, both good. I got the seafood platter, yes it was a lot of food but great way to try a little bit of everything and it was absolutely amazing. A good deal for the price too. My husband got salmon which was good too. We finished with the brownie and key lime pie. The pie is more like ice cream pie, a little different but good too.
