I hate to write this review but bbq plates nowadays are way too expensive to be not on point. This used to be a good bbq joint over the years and has saved me time for 4th of July cooking. We ordered the half rib tip pans and chicken pans this year and it cost $229. This is the third year in a row that they have had problems with their on line ordering system, when you get there they have no idea what you have ordered and already paid for. This never bothered me because of the quality of bbq they were putting out, it was worth the wait. This year July 4th 2026 we picked up our order after the long wait and drove back home to prepare our dinner, this is where the real surprise came upon us. The rip tips were way off, they tasted like charcoal and lighter fluid and reminded me of when I was just learning how to bbq myself years ago. The smoke taste was a taste of dirty smoke not waiting for the clean smoke before putting your food on the smoker. The chicken was just ok along with the Carolina gold bbq sauce that had way too much pepper in it. Warning, taste your food before you leave the store because their prices on bbq pans here are way too expensive to put out a horrible product like they did this year, it's really sad. read more

Go! Now, before they run out of thing! its all so good!!! This was one of my 1st bbq experiences since resuming to eat meat after years of pescatarianism. The smoke on this meat left the most memorable and tasty lingering feeling in my throat, I regretted the last yr or so of my meatless life. The smell in the car was so enchanting, I busted open the container as soon as I got home and totally forgot to take a pic. I had the rib tips, half chicken and brisket with baked beans and potato salad. The beans were clearly canned, but good. The potato salad was very much black ppl potato salad and I appreciated that. I visited Mustard Seed in Fairburn today and left extremely disappointed. I originally asked for a brisket plate and was told they were out -- no problem, that happens. I then asked for their special, the quarter chicken plate. After waiting, the employee came back and said they didn't have quarter chicken either. But then she proceeded to ask if I wanted half a chicken. When I asked how they could offer a half chicken but not a quarter chicken, she literally shrugged her shoulders and said, "I don't know." That response -- and the lack of honesty or clear communication -- is what bothered me most. I understand being out of items, but the service, inconsistency, and lack of accountability made the entire experience frustrating. At that point, I just left without ordering. I was hungry, but even more disappointed in the service and integrity of how business was handled. This place needs to be exposed. If you are a BBQ place that offers a veggie plate and use canned veggies, you should at least warn people before they spend almost $20 on said canned veggies. I can't speak to the BBQ cause I didn't get any. Won't be going back to try it cause this is ridiculous. Do better!! How are you charging people $4 for each of these sides?!? The Mac and cheese was ok but the baked beans are basically Busch's with no seasoning, meat or anything. Collard greens are pathetic. I love fried okra but this is sad. I got the chicken plate and small ribs. The chicken was dry and looked old. The greens didn't smell right so I didn't eat them. Some of the small end ribs were also dry. I was only satisfied with the baked beans. This place used to be so good. Definitely wasn't worth the price. read more

I came here based on the pictures of food on Yelp, I wanted to try the rib tips and Hickory tip loaded Baked Potato. They no longer serve baked potatoes because their suppliers potatoes got smaller....SUGGESTION, When nature yields smaller potatoes, don't give up, just double up! We ordered the rib tip dinner with fried okra and collard greens as the sides the rib tips were delicious and a very nice portion serving. Smoky flavor and tender. The sauce was surprisingly good, it has a Carolina gold vibe, hence the name Mustard Seed maybe? The sides were okay. The mustard-based BBQ sauce is incredible. I had the rib platter and my associates had the pulled pork. The ribs were delicious but not quite as tender as I prefer. The sides -- fries and green beans for me -- were tasty and served hot. My associates had very good things to say about the pulled pork as well. read more

We stopped here on Sunday after church and were glad we did. The young lady greeted us with a warm smile as we entered. Her customer service was top tier. The restaurant offered a very spacious dining room with adequate seating space. My church members ordered Rib Tip dinners and I ordered the Chicken Dinner with mac&cheese and collard greens. The portion sizes of the meats exceeded our expectations. The meat was perfectly seasoned and smoked. The mustard bases sauce was delicious but really wasn't needed. You can eat the meat as is. I sampled one of my church members Rip Tips and my tastebuds are begging me to go back to get them. This was my first time visiting and definitely will not be my last. read more

If I was rating Mustard Seed on their food alone, they'd earn 5 stars. However, 3 stars is more reflective of the whole story; the seem to be out of about 90% of their menu as the end of the day draws near. I don't even mean "5 minutes before close" end of the day, I mean 6PM. For reference, they close at 9. So their menu is VERY limited for a good chunk of the day. I could forgive even that, if I could call ahead to see what they have, but I can't even do that, because no one ever answers the phone when I call. I can't call to see what they have and what they're out of. Chancing coming here for dinner often proves disappointing when I find out that they are out of almost everything on the menu. Truth be told this was my 3rd attempt at dinner for the evening so beggars shouldn't be so choosy. BUT.... I was not impressed, I ordered a veggie plate with mac & cheese, collard greens, potato salad and fried okra. I wish I could tell you how the mac & cheese was BUT I did not get any in my bag. The collard greens and the potato salad are not that great. The best part of my meal was the fried okra, it was good I just wished they didn't put salt on them because I could really taste the salt. They do ask that you wear a mask, and they have markers on the floor for you to stand for social distancing, and the young lady who took my order had on her gloves and a mask.. if I decide to come back I know I'm only getting the fried okra minus the salt. read more

I've been following them on Facebook for a few years, so woke up this morning craving bbq and since the daughter and I both have to work on Valentines Day we decided to hit this spot up for a mother daughter bbq Valentines lunch.. My first request, is PLEASE GET SOME BRUNSWICK STEW ON THE MENU. I'm one of those people where i judge your bbq establishment by how good the Brunswick stew is. That being said, it was pretty good bbq. My daughter had the rib platter, and I had the chicken and rib platter. We were both surprised that the ribs were not on a slab, but were already cut up and portioned out on our plate. Not a bad thing, and they were some good ribs, I think we are just programmed to expect the entire slab to arrive on the table. This idea works, because its less work for you, you basically just get to eating. Only two rib bones come on the chicken and rib platter, and I had sucked the meat off the bones so fast, that I finally settled in and accepted it was mostly a chicken platter, but very tasty chicken. Each platter came with two sides, we both had the collard and mac and cheese, nothing special about either, couldn't tell if they were fresh, but I would definitely say they aren't a can or box variety. Sunday afternoon around 2pm was not busy, but not slow, there were at least four tables of people eating in, there are several TV and they have a bar, but no one was staffing the bar, not sure if Fairburn has a rule about alcohol on Sunday, or it just wasn't time for drinking and since football season if officially over, maybe people just weren't out this particular Sunday. read more

I can't comment on the in restaurant dining experience bc I've only ever ordered via telephone and picked up my order. I recently ordered 3 pans of chicken and 3 pans of rib tips for a housewarming party. I received a phone call notifying me when my order was ready. The meats were a huge hit at the party! Both were delicious. I especially loved the rib tips! Their mustard sauce is pretty good as well. I didn't order any sides this particular time but I have tried their sides in the past and did not enjoy them. I don't recommend their sides at all. read more

The meats are delicious especially, their bbq sauce (the yellow sauce)! Omg! It's finger licking good! I'm not a fan of their sides. They need a bit more seasoning. It's a small business and the people are kind and professional but, servkce can be a bit slow bc of several orders. I recommend you call ahead and order bc ot could take 5 minutes or a half an hour wait. They will let you know what to expect. read more

The Mustard Seed BBQ is one of my boyfriend and I favorite spots to grab when we are at home. As a Memphis native I'm super picky on my bbq and since moving to Atlanta ten years ago I still miss that good bbq flavor. This spot helps to fill that need! Great ribs and the bbq sauce is awesome. One of my favorite items is the BBQ potato with pulled pork. Order it and do yourself a favor and get a bottle of the bbq sauce to take home. You're going to want to put it on everything. read more
