I dined for the first time at Mustard Seed this week and it will not be the last time.I had the rib and chicken combo with sides of collard greens, baked beans and additional fried okra. There was a generous portion of food to share with a friend and still enough to take home for an additional meal. The meats were cooked to perfection no sauce needed. However the mustard sauce took me back to eastern North Carolina. It was delicious!!! The okra was great not so much for the beans no flavor and greens to sweet. The dining area was a tad bit chilly. The ribs were good. The service was terrible. The sides were too small and straight out of a can. They advertised a bar but the bored young lady at the register killed the thought of a nice drink to wind down with "The bar is closed". Gonna assume that it's because everyone there is under 21. I have been to the Mustard Seed on several occasions and I'm a fan of their BBQ. Their sides are not as great but I cannot wait to dig into my tips! They're always tender and smoky. I LOVE THE SAUCE!!! I am a Dixie Chic so I grew up on the red sauce but this mustard based stuff is delicious. The staff is kind, service is quick, with satisfying portions. read more

Unfortunately, this place is a NO. I wanted so badly to support this restaurant, being that it's faith based and Black owned, but I've been twice and I have nothing positive to say about the food. The sides are BAD. The potato salad tasted like mayo salad with small potatoes in it. The green beans and collard greens had absolutely NO seasoning. The baked beans seemed to have been straight out of a can. The ribs were just ok... Nothing I couldn't tackle on the grill at home myself. I'm disappointed because its founding restaurant in southwest Atlanta is AMAZING. This spin off, although extremely close to my house, is NOT worth the convenience. I just this left this place the service and the manager is horrible. I drove from Atlanta to Fairburn to get BBQ. The cashier took my money and said that the wait will be 30 mins. I let went and got a medi-pedi and she said it will be and hour. I ask for a refund.There were others asking for refunds. As well because they were running out of food. The cashier didn't know how to refund it. The manager came didn't ask what was the problem. He acted as if I was a bother. My sister and I stopped in for dinner on Saturday at the recommendation of one of her employees. We both had the BBQ Ribs and they were the best I have ever had! Absolutely wonderful! Service was great and quick. The sides were ok, nothing to get excited about; we had the mac n' cheese and baked beans. We stopped here on our way home from the Gulf. We got the ribs and chicken feast. I came in and ordered and had my food within 7 minutes. The young lady at the counter opened my food and I couldn't believe how much meat we got. The gave us the full rack of ribs plus the ends and a half chicken. We also got two sides as well as our sauce on the side. We got home and made our plates. Given the name, it made sense that the sauce was mustard based. The ribs and chicken were delicious. With the sauce they were even more amazing. Both were juicy and not overcooked and both had great flavor. The sides - Mac and cheese and potato salad left something to be desired, they weren't horrible but my thing with Mac and cheese is don't do it if you're not going to try. Most barbecue places have meh Mac and cheese, though. The potato salad had an odd flavor to it. Almost like someone put milk/cream in it. And it was missing the typical bite I Like that comes with adding a bit of mustard and onion. But potato salad is a personal preference for most people. I'd also say that the sides do entree ratio was a little off. If you're getting the feast I recommend buy an extra side or two bc it is a lot of meat. The sauce was so good, though. I'd recommend this place for sure, i'd just recommend different sides and more of them. read more

When I crave ribs this is my go to place. I usually get either collard greens, Mac and Cheese or okra and it's very fresh tasting. The mustard sauce is awesome so don't forget to add that to those ribs!!! read more

This was the first time I've tried them after years of notable mention by friends and the closure of the metropolitan pkwy location. I'm a professional chef and bbq aficionado and i can honestly say the ribs were fall off the bone flavorful (and remind me of Sherman's in New York) but not worth the trip (from Stockbridge), time or effort. I went during lunch "hour", the place was virtually empty and the cook was already out of major staples like collard greens and didn't tell the cashier until I ordered mac n cheese that he was out of that as well. After they gave the last portion to a customer who didn't want or order it. The cashier/server flippantly responded "then give it to him" referring to his fellow diner. The final straw was being referred to in the 3rd person asking "what is 'she' waiting for?" to my face by the cook (dreadful customer service) and I was resigned to leave with a "sandwich". The sauce was spot on but i won't be back and wouldn't refer a serious bbq fan. read more

Well after being recommended this place, I'm highly disappointed. I drove from Douglasville to visit this restaurant just to be highly disappointed. I ordered collard greens, bake beans and mac n cheese no meats. The Mac n cheese was horrible( I'm thinking they used to much sharp cheese or something, the greens was VERY SALT AND VINEGARY. It literally tasted like a pickle. The bake beans was ok to much sugar though. Won't be back. read more

This was not my first time at the mustard seed we've been eating here for years but we haven't been in awhile and sadly the quality of food it has gone down. I called at 7:15 to place my order the girl said I couldn't place my order over the phone because they were about to close at 8 I was like okay fine I'll just come in because we really wanted bbq. So we ordered the rib plate with potato salad and collard greens and the chicken plate with baked beans and collards. First all the sides that are typically hot were ice cold like they had been sitting in the fridge. The baked beans were sooo sweet and I usually put a little sugar in mine when I cook them but it tasted like they put the entire bag of sugar in. The collard greens were extremely salty we couldn't even eat them. My husband said the ribs just weren't good (and he literally never complains about food like he likes everything lol) he didn't even eat them all and he never wastes food especially something like ribs. The chicken was alright but not like it used to be. We both left half our plates at the end because we just weren't satisfied. I hate this because we used to love their food. read more

My daughter and I came here today for lunch, and the staff was so kind when we placed our order. The ribs are the way to go! Delicious with or without BBQ sauce. The sides were good, but not as good as the ribs were. We were down in Fairburn for a horse show, and I look forward to coming back again. read more

The customer service here has been getting increasingly worse! Idk if they didn't expect the volume of customers but for them to have "ran out of meat" and you're a bbq place is unacceptable. I tried to make a call in about 2months ago and they person on the phone said they didn't do call ins. But when i arrived, their was another customer picking up a call in order. So that was my first red flag. But i kept shopping because the food was good. Then recently i started getting stomach aches after eating it. I still pressed on because i was a loyal customer supporting black business. But this is the last straw. I called at 9:35 to call an order in and the girl took my order. When i arrived at the store the cook behind the counter says they aren't taking orders anymore. To which i replied i had a call in. And the girl then says "that's the one i just threw away" now I'm not sure why she would say that in front of a paying and LOYAL customer. I feel really disrespected because despite that i went back today during my lunch and asked the cashier how long the wait would be and she didn't even reply. Just stared me in the face and asked if i wanted to cancel it. I've been a huge supporter; sending friends, family, and coworkers alike to go enjoy their food, even posted them several times on my social media, but this was the last straw. Fresh food takes time to cook, which I understand, but not letting people order over the phone isn't the best idea, they are losing business. This is my second time here and my experience was unpleasant, specially the second time. The sides are awful. Beans were straight from the can and the fries were sitting and cold by the time that I ordered. We came with a party of 4 and one of our diners had far less food from the rest of us in his plate. The waitress was kind enough and noticed that she said she would give him more ribs. A few minutes later the owner came from the back trying to see what was wrong. When my friend stated the obvious about the portions the owner stated that this is the portion and what's the problem. My brother your a owner and we didn't want anything free. Today was a very disappointing day at The Mustard Seed Bbq in Fairburn Ga. I will Never Return! On today, Friday January 31,2020 approx. 3:15pm I called and ordered a rib tip & chicken plate along with a 2nd rib tip plate, both with 2. Sides. I was immediately informed that the rib tips would not be ready for another 45 minutes and so I agreed to wait the time because Me and my husband had been talking about rib tips for a week. Around 4:15 I arrived at The Mustard seed. There was a young lady standing behind the counter but she never greeted me I had to say something to her first which was crazy. I told her that I was there to pickup a call in order. She asked for my name and went in the back. After a couple of minutes she came from the back and told me..."We Don't Have Any Chicken". I said excuse me but I called in an order, was told the rib tip were still cooking, for me to wait 45 minutes, which I did, know you are telling me you don't have any chicken??? WHAT THE HELL! I asked Why was I not informed of the chicken when I ordered? She looked at me and said she had just gotten to work and didn't know what was going on. I asked to speak with the Manager but she told me that he was not there. I asked to speak with someone in charge but out of the other 3 people in the back no one came out to address the situation. I then asked her to call the manager. She went in the back and then came out and said the Manager want you to leave your name & number. FOR REAL! 1st of all she was not on the phone long enough to give anybody any information about what was going on. 2nd of all how can you run a successful business like that. You try to support your people but your people always fail you. I don't care how good you think your Bbq is, if your customer service is BAD then that's a reflection on management and you won't be in business for long. FIrst-timer & I won't be back... I googled BBQ in Fairburn and this place came up. The online menu looked good so I figured I'll give it a try. I called and placed my order for pick up. The cashier acted as if I was inconveniencing her with my order. The online menu did not list prices so I had to ask the cashier the prices of the Power Plate and the Mustard Seed Feast. She managed to answer the question but did so with an attitude. I ordered my sides and requested extra sauce on the side. I asked her my total because I wasn't sure if there was an extra charge for the extra sauce. She replied with a overly dramatic sigh and told me to hold on. She returned to the line and gave me my total. As I was asking how long before the order is ready, she hung up the phone. When I went in to get my food, I was shocked to find the restaurant was empty. From the phone order, I was expecting the place to be packed with customers which would explain why the cashier was in such a hurry to get off the phone. As I approached the counter inside the restaurant, I had to wait until the cashier acknowledged my presence. It seemed that she was more interested in watching the New Edition movie on BET than taking my money for my order. Food was decent but as I previously mentioned I won't be back...because of the terrible customer service. Note to owners of this facility...customer service matters!
