Last Sunday I walked in since I had a wedding to go to that night and didn't plan well enough to get my nails done before the trip. This shop was less than a block from my hotel and it looked clean with good reviews, so I stopped in. A week later, my nails are still in fantastic shape! Even the salon I go to at home doesn't do this good of a job and my gelled nails usually chip within a few days. They made conversation but didn't talk too too much -- the extra massage was actually worth it. While I was getting my nails done someone came n just to get her neck massaged. Quality hands. The owner was so sweet, and jumped right in to do my silk wrap while the girls worked on pedicures. The shop is small (4chairs) but run efficiently. The color options are fantastic, plus she does nail designs. They offer a few chunky glitter polishes, foil, tigers polishes, and powders. Best of all they've earned my trust. I came in for the first time. Filing is not apart of manicure. I had to ask her to file my nails and clip them. She said it's not apart of manicure. It was super weird. When it was time to pay, the lady presumed I wouldn't tip her and was making me uncomfortable. I was the only black girl in there and she kept asking if the card was mine. Wtf? I had to update my recent review since the norm is now harder to both avoid, plan around and the experience is bellow average... They don't honor appointments (come early, come on time it does matter). Time management is horrendous, they are not honest to the customers and underestimate. Everyone is aggravated, stressed out and tense since it is not clear who should be seated 1st. It's bad.. To top it off, there's cold water for a pedi....cold water. I've been going to a hair salon around the corner for nearly a decade and would find myself venturing across Brooklyn to get my nails done after. Glad The Nail Story is here as an option when that situation does arise. I found it through Yelp last night when I realized there'd be no way I could fit both hair and nails in before 8 (it was 6:45 and I was still under the hair dryer). So, I was more than thrilled to find The Nail Story was a 3 minute walk away. Small, but noticeably clean with a modern design. Very friendly and personable staff. A little on the pricier end, but it is Downtown Brooklyn. I arrived around 7:15 on a rainy Thursday evening (after calling and finding out they accept their last customer at 7:30) and had no wait. Only a day in, but so far I'm pleased with my gel mani. I suggested they get a point card, so hopefully that's in the works! read more

The ladies were nice so if you're in a jam, stop by, but if you have time, let's reevaluate....the standard pedicure which is around $35 lasted all of 9 minutes. I haven't had a professional pedicure in a while due to covid so trust me she had more than 9 mins of work to put in......and some how in that time, hot stones were involved for 6 seconds. They use cheap -to be read as useless- replaceable stickers to exfoliate the bottom of your foot. I appreciate this because of the sanitary benefits of course but I feel like there was a more abrasive stickers they could have purchased that may have cost maybe 36 cent more or just something more effective but replaceable. They would have gotten an extra star from me if they called it an express pedicure and knocked off $5-8. She filed, clipped my cuticles, used some scented body scrub on my ankles lol, used the exfoliating sticker, grab two hotstones made two strokes, slapped on some lotion and charged me $35. It sounds nice when you list it out, but each step was rushed and lasted all of 2 mins. They charge an $1 if you need the $0.02 trashable flip flops and they charge a dollar for quick dry polish drops which I think is fair. They have Essi and OPI polish They do an excellent job with covid they have plastic windows and hanging shields everywhere, spray down the seats, they use basin shower caps, check your temperature and they have hand sanitizer. read more

The staff is quick and courteous but i feel like if you do not tip when you pay then the staff does the bare minimal to finish the service. The nail polish was painted so thin that I could see the air bubbles in my nails. I gave a $2 tip bc she shaped my nails wonderfully. I saw her apply base, two coats of polish, and a top coat. My nails started chipping the next day and did not last me the 2 days I needed for a concert i was attending. While i do think the hand massage service and cleaning the cuticles is excellent I do not think it is worth $15 for the basic manicure. I will not go back. read more

She kept changing the prices and not telling what was what beforehand.I asked to speak to the manager and she tells me she is not available. I don't know any other nail establishment that double prices for a single removal of gel manicure. No cutting, shaping, filling, etc. This place is not worth going to. They literally lost a new valuable customer that works across the street and could have brought more clientele. Explain prices before you start a job! And, negotiate to keep customers. No place can be perfect so these are just some things that can be improved... pricing I feel like the mani pedi and 10 min massage for $55 is really steep. i would be more comfortable with $45 given the location and vibe of the place. The lady didnt ask if I want to use massage chair so I spent a good chunk of time wondering where the remote is. i was also sitting up really straight which wasnt comfy but she didnt notice till the very end. Not sure of her name, but she was Korean and it had to be the absolute gentlest wax I've ever had. She was also quick and very pleasant. Five stars for her! Came back the next day to get a semi-emergency pedi. I have ingrown toenails and usually only see one person. But I hadn't had time to go before my trip and was worried all the walking in NYC would be a bad situation for my toes. So I thought I'd try to get them attended to before seeing my usual person at home. I explained that I had ingrown toenails. The pedicurist was very gentle. She relieved the immediate problem by trimming just enough, but didn't really address it altogether. I'm pretty used to my usual person really um, getting in there to take care of the nail, but this person at Nail Story didn't do much. So I'm back at my usual pedicurist ten days later to get them properly taken care of. The Nail Story pedicurist was fast. And I'm grateful she addressed my immediate issue without causing any additional problems. I kinda wish she had done a little more though. The place looked clean. It is very small--just four chairs. So happy about this new nail salon in downtown Brooklyn. The store itself is absolutely tiny but it's very clean and modern. I recommend calling ahead to book an appointment as it seems only a few staff members work at a time. I received an excellent manicure and spa pedicure (super expensive but included callous removal and exfoliation, a massage, etc) from Chris, who was funny, sweet and very meticulous. She also gives a seriously great massage. I will make sure to book ahead with her again the next time. My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the prices are higher than what I'm used to for nail salons but it is worth it for how great of a job they do at The Nail Story! read more

I kept asking for coffin and she said she couldn't do it. I also witnessed what seemed to be the owner argue with two separate customers whose appointments weren't honored. I used to go here frequently and loved them but after my most recent experience i can only give 2 stars. I went to get a new UV gel set 12 days ago and one nail has completely fallen off. I do not do any type of activities or work that put more than normal strain on my nails and have had sets from elsewhere frequently last more than 1 month. $100 for this and not two weeks later will need to find a new place for a fill. On top of that, the sample nail for this color was an opaque white but as you can see this is neatly see through. Very disappointed and will not be returning. read more

Didn't enjoy this experience at all. My normal place was closed and had to come here. They didn't offer the SNS dip gel that I normally get so I was charged TWELVE dollars for removal in addition to the gel mani and regular pedi I got. Most places I've been to don't charge for taking off when you get a manicure of any sort and if they do, it's not so exorbitantly priced. It's incredibly tiny so you're constantly shuffling around to make space for someone to get through or sit down. Two stars for how clean it was and that they actually use decent products on the pedicure. My nails and cuticles were literally sore because of how rough the tech was. Pedicure was nice and I paid for the 10 minute massage, which was nice. They only had OPI and a few specialty colors but used better base products than most nail salons.
