I don't like leaving negative reviews but this place seriously rubbed me the wrong way. It seems like if you get Michael and Shirley, things will go great, but today was my first time in there and I got a woman who spent most of her time holding her cellphone to her ear and yapping while doing my pedicure. Seriously??? She then proceeded to dig at the skin on the side of one of my big toes, making it bleed....and tried to go at it again WHILE it was still bleeding. (I just recently had a pedicure, so she wasn't dealing with Shrek feet or anything.) There was a super gross C-list horror film blasting the whole time and the place was generally pretty grubby looking. I'm praying the tools were sterilized because my toe is red and swollen and ripe for an infection. I think I'll stick to Posh and Wellzen down the road--have had great experiences there. read more

TERRIBLE, I recently went there and it is disgusting I went to get my nails removed and she cut me multiple times and after she finished doing my nails they came out super think and messed up. She didn't even bother to fix them. Now I'm trying to take my nails off and I can't because of how thick and horrible made these nails are. My fingers hurt so much I can't even feel them. Look, there's a lot of nail salons around 5th ave, even multiple in one block. I easily passed this placed just judging by the outdated appearance and tried salons like vivi nail, nail on 5th, etc. But I came here one afternoon just to give it a try. Wendy did my gel mani and pedi and she's really nice and patient. When I say patient, I mean PATIENT because I am really picky about colors. I also met Shirley and Michael who are really nice, Michael being more quiet but very efficient. Blown away, I came back here a second time to try the powder dip nails and Michael did my nails . I've heard many talks about this man but wow, he is really careful and did an excellent job. Very gentle even with the cuticle cutter. I was in there for a long time but it was worth it. Even when there are rude and loud customers, I am amazed at how well they stay polite and friendly. It's a small staffed nail salon and to be quite Frank, I'm hesitant to post this review because I want to keep it a hidden gem. I disliked most of my experience here unfortunately. It was nice that they accommodated me on short notice and they were nice upon my arrival, but things quickly went downhill...I came in just for gel color removal on my hands and regular color on top (my nails were thin and weak from previous poor gel removals elsewhere, so wanted to give them time to grow for awhile). When I got Shirley I was excited because reviews had told me her and Michael were good go-to's. I told Shirley my nails were quite sensitive before she started removing the gel, and that part overall was okay at the time - now, four days after this service my nails feel even more sensitive than before and they are uneven on the top (ridges on my actual nails due to this gel removal. Shirley asked if I wanted my nails cut, and I said yes a little bit. She then proceeded to cut one of my nails as short as she possibly could, which is when I knew this appointment was a bust. When does someone ever want their nails cut all the way down to the tips of their fingers? Each time I thought she would cut my finger given how short she cut - when she filed she was filing on my finger due to how short the nails were. The damage was already done after the first couple so I let the rest be done and knew at this point that the appointment was an overall disappointment. Filing and nail painting job was poor - I could have done a better job myself and probably do my own nails maybe 1-2 times a year. There were lines on my nails (partly from my own nail ridges, I now realize), and the tips of my nails that had been filed were rough. I asked her to fix those at the end which she did, but my nails have still gotten caught on things and have had at least 4 of them that have broken in various ways. Today I took off the regular nail color she did so that I could just start over on my own (hence realizing the tops of my nails were also ruined). I will never go back nor will I recommend this place...it seems like they do a decent job with dip/gel but I'm not willing to risk trying it out again in the future. read more

Love this place! Been going for several months and although it's a very small place, the technicians were super nice and welcoming. The work is also amazing. Have powder manicures done and they last for about a month. Cindy and Shirley are the best! They always tell me, if anything happens in the first 24-48 hours, I can come back to have it fixed. I have mixed feelings on this place. I've been coming here on and off for years because of convenience. The owners (Michael & Shirley) are wonderful and greet you as soon as you enter. However that being said, most of the employees are rude and only understand/speak Chinese. This makes it very hard to communicate with your nail technician. I've tried every single tech that works there and my nails often come out unevenly shaped or they chip very quickly because they're always rushing the job. I recently came across a new young employee (Candice) and wanted to try her out. She understands & speaks English, she is calm and collected making sure length, shape and polish are perfect and exactly what you want. My UV mani & pedi lasted 3 weeks and still looked perfect (except my cuticles, they needed Jesus! Lol) I will continue coming back for Candy because she was Awesome!!! I would rate her 5 stars as an individual but because this is a salon review I can only rate it a 3-star. Hopefully they hire more technicians like Candy. read more

Five Color Nail Salon is great. (People who go here often call it Shirley's because she is the owner). While all nail salons aren't always the best, Shirley's is great because she is really accommodating. Broke a nail? She'll fix it for free. She is very understanding and while people love yelling at the workers, they try their hardest. I like going to Jane. She's great and she does a great job of making sure you like your shape and your color! Shirley is also good as well as Michael. Their prices aren't that bad either. I would recommend you give them a break and be realistic with nail expectations before you argue. If your nail tech sounds like she can't do that particular design or whatever, don't ask her to do it. :) you're setting yaself up. I like Shirley's though. I hope Jane never leaves! read more

I went here for an eyebrow waxing this morning. I must say, the entire staff was happy, all smiles, hospitable. I felt that she did a good job with my brows. Not as much tweezing afterwards, and in the end it was very different than most places. She asked me to sit up to tweeze. The air quality seemed really nice, and the prices were affordable. One complaint I have is that the employees should ask if you want oil (skin is very sensitive) when I told her (too late I should have said something before) she was very nice, and used alcohol to remove (BOY DID THAT BURN). Nonetheless, she was kind. I think this is a tip for most nail salons. read more

This was my new spot last time I came in on the 6th of June, got a full set long nails and a pedicure with regular Polish because for whatever reason they don't understand if you try to say you want gel on your toes they go get you a regular Polish close to the color. My last visit was fine it was 83$ which I felt was acceptable even though in ev I could have paid that and got gel on my toes.... I came back because it's close an they have a lot of gel colors well first off my pedicure she charged me extra to saw on my heels.... Usually a general saw is included in a pedicure.... Well then I picked a yellow and hot pink color.... I get up and the pink is orange. Not happy I have to live with this for a month I paid for pink not orange. Whatever. Now for my nails since the 6th I had several nails lift and one broke in half and came off and I glued it back she asked if I got them done here I said yes earlier this month she kept looking up and rushing so much it was giving me anxiety she was working on me and another girls nails at the same time she kept hurting my nails and then told me I needed a new set these were old!!!! I just got them there less than three weeks ago!!! She also kept saying how one was Crooked and they were just old so she took off two not the one that was broken and I glued back on. She said u got them done six months ago? Like really!!!!! So I guess she charged me for fixing their nail job cause I paid 71$ today!!!!!! Will not be going back the woman who did my nails even took a picture of them the first time and this woman kept basically calling me a liar. Nice I'll go back to ev and she cut my nail length in half!!! Cause she screwed up putting one nail one and cut it too short!!!! Insane!!! I should have said something but I was there for three hours and she kept getting up and going to do something else I was just Done! Update : the next morning my toes were already Chopped. I went in to have them fix it and picked a different color since the ones I picked were gone and they told me to change the color I'd have to pay!!!! I told them to find the color that matched and they kept repeating to change the color I'd have to pay extra and I told them I wasn't coming back and the girls in the far chairs laughed!!!! I made an appointment ahead of time for myself and 3 of my bridesmaids the day of my wedding rehearsal for about 6 hours before my rehearsal. I originally asked for Cindy because I have a friend who does her nails with Cindy and I ALWAYS LOVE THEM. But when I got there they said Cindy was not available so I had to have my nails done by someone else. REGRETS. SO MANY REGRETS. my appointment was at 2 but they didn't get started on me until about 3:30. Everything was a mess. I showed them a picture of what I wanted, the woman told me she could do it but obviously could not. She put on my first coat of nail polish and then left me to dry for about another 45 minutes. I was going to be late to my rehearsal so we were just going to leave as we were. (One of my bridesmaids had tips on but no color. At this point it was about 5:00. What's the point of an appointment?! I mean there were a lot of people there it was definitely packed but we had an appointment, we should have been priority) once we threatened to leave they suddenly wanted to work on our nails again but then everything was rushed and me THE BRIDE left with HORRENDOUS nails. I mean absolutely disgusting. I cried. I told her to not even bother putting the jewels on my nails because I knew I was just going to go home and paint over them myself. When it was time to pay I took out a gift card and before telling me what the price of my nails cost she asked me how much the gift card was for, Which was suspicious to me. They tried...staff was friendly, but seemed disorganized and disengaged. Every single one of my nails was filed crooked AND so were my toes...they were two different technicians, so both were bad at that part...the pedicure was gentile enough, but the nail polish was so thin that it barely covered the nail, you could see through it even after 3 coats. Additionally the nail technician took way to much length from my nail, I asked her to leave them long, so instead of cutting them, which I refused to let her do, she just filed them down (and again, made them crooked). Not a terrible place, but I will not be returning, ever...there are at least 4 other nail salon on the same block, try one of them instead. read more

I went yesterday- one of the worst acrylic fills I've ever had. The lady was so rough with the electric filing, she gave me chemical burns on 3 of my fingers, 2 bloody cuticles, and tried to leave chunks of unfiled acrylic underneath my nails with rough edges. Not to mention the shape was so poorly done, I had to request the hand file to fix myself. This isn't rocket science, I should be able to relax without having to micromanage every step to get my nails done without a mess. Do not recommend. read more
