Mixed feelings about this place . There are things I liked ( ambience , prices , bartender/mixologist currently working's personal flair ) when I visited , however I didn't have the best experience overall . Two stars ( instead of one ) for the bartender trying to make it right by offering me a free shot with my happy hour beverage but honestly I would have rather just been treated better (with a little more consideration) . In the states at "fancy" restaurants and or really popular places ( in general places that take reservations) , a single person would never really be allowed to sit at a larger table or booth, unless extreme circumstances warranted it like they were disabled / had a wheelchair ( which I am ) due to the fact that most likely a larger party who would obviously want to sit together, would need that limited space and it would be awkward to have someone move tables when they were already enjoying their drink or meal to accommodate a larger party. This rule, however doesn't really exist at places like dive bars . In general as most dive bars tended to be sparsely populated ...sitting wherever is not really an issues . In general first come first serve and every man for himself ...is usually the vibe . I arrived here, basically at opening and was there for about 40 minutes when a party of four arrived . All four of them kept looking at my table where I was sitting (the only booth in the small bar) as they were initially forced to sit together at one of the single tables with four chairs . Next thing, I know the bartender comes over to me and apologizes, saying he has to bug me and request that I move to a smaller table because they need the one booth . As I gathered my belongings to move, members of the larger party avoided making eye contact as they some thanked me for moving . Obvious that they were feeling guilt and yet it didn't stop them from claiming the booth I was using as a disabled person . Quite an unpleasant experience . To be fair I get the need to accommodate a larger party but honestly they could've literally just pushed three tables together and arranged the chairs to be three on each side. It would've been a little bit more work, but I think it would have been the fairest solution ..and would have been my solution as the employee working there or if I was a member of the party . It's the entitlement that really bothered me . I think I just come from a place where in certain instances people wouldn't even dare ask . read more

My fav and best speakeasy in Vancouver serving delish cocktails late into the night. I agree its hard to find this spot but if you know to look for the redt light ul be fine. The minute you walk in I loved the vibe of this place. Spent 4 hours trying different cocktails and the bartender was a joy to chat with as well. We tried their chocolate old fashioned (not on the menu but the bartender made this one - amazing), cacao caliente, tsunami (my husbands fav - kept re-ordering this all night), trend setter (interesting take on espresso martini) & lavender gin fizz! We loved everything we ordered. Dint stay for food though but enjoyed our drinks. They have several tables here and I am sure it is packed on weekends. Highly recommend. read more

Agree with other reviews that the entrance hallway makes you think you may get murdered but once inside, the place is pretty cool. I had the Pina Sour and it was so good I had 2. Bartender made a special Old Fashioned for us with PB Whiskey and Chocolate - very good! Loved the Tequila Mule as well. Food was good (high point was the Tot Burrito) but we'll be back for the drinks! read more

The unique thing about the lounge is that it's hidden. It has a great song playlist that makes you wanna Shazam every song. They had a good & cheap food menu. I just wished that they had some creative cocktails to go with their lounge theme. Hipster lounge? Check. Secret entrance? Check. Street cred? Check. Parking is available along Main at night. This place was so hidden it literally took me 15 minutes of walking around. Contrary to the address, the entrance is on 3rd Avenue and NOT on Main. Hopefully this saves others a pile of time. Look for the red light bulb. Once one goes through the extremely graffitied front corridor, it's onwards to a, well, narrow lounge. Hipster vintage decor, house-type music, and plenty of loud conversations. The seating is rather limited here, and people kept walking and bumping into my friends me and me. Beers aren't the cheapest, but some don't mind paying a few bucks for the ambience. Staff are friendly and chill. Definitely worth checking out, though personally I would prefer a more spacious venue. read more

A super unique place in Vancouver for drinks! One of my favourites is the lavender one - highly recommended. It is a speakeasy that people should check out for the vibes, but don't expect anything that is jaw dropping in terms of the beverages. Unassuming little spot... literally feels like you're walking in to a homeless man's doorway until you notice the little red light above the door and the candles going down the stairs as you open it. Super tight space so best for one-on-one dates or a small table of close friends. EXCELLENT margarita and I feel like the staff know what they're doing... I like to refer to these kinds of people as "gamers". I might be too old (and too far out of the service industry) to appreciate it as much as others, but it was a nice change from the usual go-to's :) read more

If you're looking for a great ambiance this place definitely has that. Its a cool spot with mood lighting and the speak easy piece of it is awesome too. The drinks however were mediocre- not great but not bad either. I tried the Chocolate Old Fashioned and was a little underwhelmed. It was an okay old fashioned but the chocolate piece of it really didn't come through. We also got an long island iced tea and enjoyed it. It was refreshing. We came here for happy hour and their deals are amazing. We also liked the food for the price point (regular bar food/frozen food). The nachos are good. We went on a weekday so it was empty and the service was still sort of slow so unsure how it would be on a busy day. It came from (first and foremost) the two girls tending bar, and people who were, apparently, disappointed that their favorite dive bar was no longer a "secret". The two bartenders failed to make eye contact, busied themselves with picking up others' empty cups, and generally ignoring us for about 15 minutes before taking our orders. Love it here. Definition of hip, cool, and funky. Great selection of drinks and wonderful staff who are very friendly and welcoming. There's limited seating and space, but otherwise a great vibe and a perfect place to grab a drink and decompress. It's dark in there, but has some killer mood lighting to lighten up the place. They do have some food options available as well. Washrooms are well maintained, and the location is within walking distance of transit (skytrain and bus). This place was a little hard to find but was able to figure it out after walking around the block a few times! Moody, old-age, and eclectic style inside. Very limited, and narrow seating area (aptly named). I came here during Happy Hour, the lounge doesn't open until 5pm which is the start of Happy Hour and ends at 7pm. All their cocktails which is a 2oz drink is $8.50 - about 50% off regularly priced, great deal! Each drink is hand-crafted and there's some really unique drinks here that's not on a regular bar menu. The staff was friendly inside the Narrow lounge was friendly and thoughtful, helping with my cocktail order. From what I remembered there was two bartenders tending to I'd say 10-12 people(?) and yet I didn't feel like they were neglecting anyone. We were also able to order two drinks per person at a time. It's been a while since I visited The Narrow, and it's still a really cool venue. My visit was this passed Friday night around midnight and as you would expect, it was quite busy. They now have a door man/bouncer outside to control the occupancy of this small and popular bar. Luckily, we didn't have to wait long, but once in side there were no available tables. :( I don't really enjoy standing in a small venue like Narrow because I just feel awkward and in the way of the servers and the patrons. After lurking around the bar we were able to snag a few seats as people paid there bills and left. The bartender was prompt with her service, and we decided on Moscow Mules and Bourbon Sours. The MM was served in a silver mug instead of the typical copper and was too strong with the lime. Not the best MM I have had and I was disappointed. My girlfriend was happy with her Bourbon Sour. After about 20mins we were able to snag a table which was much more comfortable for our group. It seemed there were only 2 people working and I am still not sure if there was any actual table service. It was busy for sure, and it seemed understaffed to me. To order food and more drinks I went up to the bar, because no one had come by our table. It's just easier in a place this chaotic and understaffed. Food came relatively fast and I enjoyed my mushroom and Chorizo flatbread. I didn't enjoy that the bartender barked at me for not waiting to grab the drinks at the bar. I'm sorry, I didn't know it was 100% self service just because it's busy. I was trying to make things easier by ordered at the bar. Honestly I would probably not come back on a Friday/Saturday because the service is almost non existent and it very loud and Chaotic with people standing in the isle. Still a trendy and eclectic bar that I suggest you visit, perhaps on a week day would be better. FYI. I think you'd enjoy this place if you're looking for something really casual. It was too dark, loud, and congested for me. **HAPPY HOUR REVIEW** The hubs and I are on the prowl for some cocktails. In comes this place with its full stock of cocktails and snacks for HH pricing! We arrived right when it opened. It took us a little hunting to find the entrance since it was broad daylight and we can't see the red light glow above the door. Not sure if there's another room, but based on what we see in front of the bar, yes, it is quite narrow and small. Our bartender is a lady with glasses. She didn't offer her name so we have no clue who she is. $8 for all the cocktails on the regular menu during HH. We got the: - Pisco Sour: nice balance on the sweet and sour notes. A bit more egg white is appreciated though. - Just Peachy Old Fashioned: It was too bland. Not much notes in this one. Didn't taste any peach. - Lemongrass Margarita: There is salt...but no lemongrass taste. Tastes like a regular Margarita. - Lavender Gin Fizz: yes, we can taste the lavender. Hole-in-the-wall? Dive bar? yes and yes. I originally thought that this bar was called the "Marrow" Lounge in honour of the antler horn collection adorning the main salon's walls. But rather it takes its namesake from its, narrowness. cool. You can probably cram a few dozen people into the darkly lit, groovy-ceilinged main room, and whoever can't fit in there can hang out in the mushroom garden patio outside, yeah, that kind. You add in some windy, narrow (get it?) hallways to connect it all and you've got Narrow Lounge. cool. For all you hipsters thinking this might be the place (in your case, it is) for the perfect drink, eh, not so much. Not a particularly deep liquour selection and bartenders didn't step up to the mixologist plate or some other non-douchey way of saying that. That said, it's only a few windy hallways to the front door and the Narrow garden, this time taking irony from its square shape. There's a mini bar station out there with several Octoberfest style tables and benches, but more importantly the mushroom garden. yes, those mushrooms. The good part is the space, a woody main room dimly lit with creepy antler wall art and a variation on a traditional tin ceiling over the main room that is definitely worth a stare, hipsters be damned. This little dive spot has the smell of a bar that's been around a long time, and the crooked little hallways have that house party feel to them. And did I mention the Mushroom Garden? It's a cool space. The Narrow's clientele sort of runs the gamut, from music engineering school students a few steps away to the funky neighbourhood locals that surround it. It's a wide blend people in here any given night and all pretty darn amicable for a bunch of drunks. Standing upstairs at the Grace Gallery, I am asked if I'd like to go downstairs for a drink. "Of course," I say. I mean, who wouldn't want to go through some back door, past a random bicycle, storage stuff and stark, white walls with pewter doors on almost every side? And then, all of a sudden I see why they call it the Narrow. But what perfection in something narrow! Great beer selection, cool drinks like mint juleps served in silver cups, and really attentive and friendly service! Relaxed and unpretentious, with music that had our table wishing we had an iPhone to answer, "Who sings this," a dozen times over. What can I say, am I finally at a loss for words? No matter how much thought I put in to this review I know that it will never do it justice. From the start I could tell I was in for a treat when I walked around the corner under the red light, down the dimly lit entrance, to a little piece of heaven. Long have I looked for the small bar that excels in character and conversation, my search is over. The Mac and Cheese with bacon and jalapenos were a great match to my many pints of beer and shots of jäger, listening to Johnny Cash was just icing on the cake. I don't regret much in my life. Sure I had a mullet 5 years too late and I sported Mc Hammer pants when Vanilla Ice was in, but I do not regret any of that. My only regret not finding this place sooner. So stop crab dancing at home, put on some jeans and head to the Narrow Lounge tonight, you won't be disappointed. read more

The secret is out! Our little hide-away beneath the red light off of Main Street has been invaded, and is no longer our special spot. Everyone must be on holidays, because this place was PACKED last night. We got there around 10:30 for a friendly gathering, and it was standing room only, and because the Narrow, is exactly that, we were squished between people seated at the bar, and people seated at tables, and then crushed every time someone tried to squeeze through us to get to the bathroom. Whatever the capacity was at the Narrow, I am pretty sure we exceeded it. Luckily, we leered long enough at a table nearby, that the people sitting at it left. Then it was a question of, do we wait to be served, or do we hit the bar to get service? There only seemed to be two staff members working the bar, and they were doing an awesome job considering the amount of people that were crammed in there, and they did make it around to some of the tables when they had a chance, but there probably should have been more staff scheduled for the night. We had the nachos ($14), which were awesome, complete with layered cheese. For some reason many restaurants don't do this, so after you destroy the first layer of chips, you are left with naked ones. This is not the case at the Narrow. However, I have to admit, I am not really a fan of their salsa. I'm not sure what the spice is that they put in it, but it's not my favourite. The rum and diets were about $5.50, which was a-ok, and I was able to use the bank machine at the back at the end of bar to pay my tab. Having a bank machine in a pub can be a blessing in disguise. This is why you should always ask for a receipt when using the bank machine, thus eliminating the surprise in the morning. I'll be back to the Narrow again because the staff, the drinks and the food are all great, but hopefully it won't be so squishy. read more

I didn't Yelp this place for ages thinking I could keep it a secret. Then a friend's birthday here prompted me to maybe look into writing a review. Low and behold someone's come along and reviewed it and a few more have joined and even 2 ROTDs! I guess the cat's out of the bag on this one and I should stop being so greedy with keeping gems like these a secret. Vancouver definitely needs a healthy dose of more places like this. The Narrow does a great job of maintaining a cool vibe without any pretentiousness. Difficult in this day and age when businesses so easily sway their personalities based on gentrification and the newest hipster fads. I'm glad to say that the Narrow holds it's ground and provides solid appeal based on it's no-nonsense approach to providing decent food, drinks and atmosphere that's cozy as heck to get friendly in. Think of the early halcyon days of the Alibi Room & Lucy Mae Brown's and subtract away all the cruft, douchey people and some square footage. There you have it, a great place to hang out. They still spin vinyl...the real stuff not the the animated vinyl on a decal-ed up Macbook. Not that I have anything against that, it's just it fits the atmosphere so nicely. As the name states..it's Narrow. It's also hard to spot if you haven't been before. TLDR: killer happy hour. Cheap tacos and cheap nachos. Would definitely come back and bring more friends! The Lavender cocktail was really refreshing and was interesting to try since I didn't see it around often. Gin and tonic was average. The chicken tacos were a little stringy and nothing special. I would go for more fish tacos next time. $2 for two large bites of deep fried fish is definitely a steal. Nachos were decent, generous helpings of cheese. Having spent time in NY, this is NOT the smallest bar I've been in. And I guess I get the charm of it all. The beer was fine. The atmosphere was fine. The bouncer/counter guy was fully ridiculous. Can someone buy him one of those clicky things that adds and subtracts people as they come and go? You wont find this place unless you're really looking hard and I feel like I'd be cheating on the experience to tell you how to find it. Much like Employees Only in NYC, you really just have to know what you're looking for. It's AOK. Nothing that stands out enough as a wow, but then, nothing detracting either. Initially, I was taken aback that a lounge will be hidden in the corner of an alley on main st. and as I approached the big black door of an entrance, I sort of anticipated a very sketch environment. However, as I walked past the graffiti filled staircase I felt like I was transported to the concealed bustling underground bars that I loved in the city of New York. My date and I ordered fish tacos and a steak sandwich, respectively. I personally thought the steak sandwich rather lacked flavour, however the fish tacos were the best fish tacos I have ever eaten in my life. They also had great music choice and a nice, lively crowd. Perfect spot for last night's girls' night. A little bit out of the way but feels like someone's awesome basement rec room/speakeasy. One of my friends was already there when the other two of us arrived, thankfully, as it was fairly busy for a Tuesday night and she had snagged the last table. She had already ordered, but the waitress popped by as soon as we sat down to bring a menu and take drink orders. This was what service was like all night -- perfectly timed and amiable. The waitress was friendly and charming like your best friend's hip older sister, and the kind who suggests another bottle of wine knowing that of course you'll say yes. Only one of us ordered food and it was a recommendation from the waitress when my friend said she needed something hearty but healthy. She ended up with a sausage cassoulet for $9 that looked amazing. The bathroom I used was large and clean with a huge mirror, in case you need to make sure your outfit still looks hot. It's a NARROW lounge, people -- don't be surprised by the lack of room. It's narrow. Just like it said it would be: narrow. But it's one of the best spaces in Vancouver. To say I merely love it would be doing the place a disservice. The feelings I have for Narrow go beyond fleeting and simple adoration. Because you're forced to love it. You're forced to love the friends you're with, you're forced to love the stranger at the next table, you're forced to love the person at the bar, hell, you're even forced to love the people out back. This place is actually more like four stars or even above that for its unique character and atmosphere. Also, they have Delirium on tap, so automatic thumbs up from me. Narrow Lounge is just that - narrow - but it's one of the best hidden gems of the city. They've got an amazingly well stocked bar complete with at six or so small batch bourbons, and they can make you absolutely anything you can think of. At first, from outside, you might not even know you're at a bar. There's a red light above the black industrial door if they're open, and it's off if they're closed. This is a one of my favourite night spots in town, especially if I'm looking for a cool and chill evening with friends. A 'speakeasy-like' bar tucked away next to main street. The indoor seating area is very dimly lit with medieval themed decor whereas the outdoor patio is decked out in colorful fun lights (popsicle lights!!!) We came here during happy hour 4-7 pm! we ordered nachos and tacos. Nachos were decent, loaded with cheese, olives, onions with a side of salsa and sour cream. The tacos were more westernized, single shelled with little dressing on top. The fish tacos were fried fish fillet, and the chicken tacos were just shreaded chicken (a tad dry). Overall, the food was average. The cocktail drinks however, were a winner!!! I ordered a double Pimms and it was not too potent/bland. My friend tried the negroni and it was lovely, presentation was awesome too! There's a piano oddly placed right next to the washroom as they are limited in space. Depending on the time you go, this place is either a great, romantic date spot or a totally crazy night out waiting to happen! I've been here in the early evening and had a nice sit down... And I've also been pounding back booze here until... well, i won't say how late since it's a bit scandalous. Their nachos are EPIC, the mac n cheese is to die for, and if you're feeling conservative their salad is damn tasty too. They've got a great drink selection and their bartenders are always spot on with their mixes. Ive never been here and had a crappy time, and everyone i've dragged along loves it. If you're showing up late on a weekend night you may have to stand for awhile. It's called the Narrow for a reason- it's TINY. Show up by 9 and you should be alright, and if not just be patient for a seat cause it's worth the wait. The crowd is always mixed, but always in good spirits. I've been here surrounded by Main St hipsters, middle aged gay guys in polo shirts, Yaletown d-bags (sorry guys, but you were being a bit obnoxious) and stinky metal heads. A few years back, K-Os was in town for a bit and was so impressed that he asked them if he could do a few unadvertised DJ sets. It was pretty rad to show up and see him spinning. The decor is the best in the city - antlers and baroque wallpaper and still life paintings of roses- and the music is always awesome. A secret spot within a secret spot, behind a secret spot. Whoaaaa-- mind exploding! Oh Narrow, how you're so awesomely clever. If discovering a bar tucked behind an art gallery wasn't enough, Narrow upped the anti with their retro-fabulous tiki bar outside. We tiki-cocktail'd & dined on wooden picnic tables, ate mac n' cheese (and pretty much everything on the menu), and felt like kids in Disneyland (the themed food court). Best of all, we learned about how (tragically/hilariously) vegetarians have been raving about the 'un-burger', which is clearly described on the menu as having a slice of meatloaf in place of a regular burger patty. Oops... The service was fun and chill, the GIANT Tiki wall mask set the stage along with torches, thatched straw adornments, lil' bar, etc. and put me in the mood for summer fun! Dear Narrow Lounge: You've got some explaining to do. I've been to your establishment a few times now with friends, yet I'd never tried the food until last night. Some girlfriends and I decided to do dinner and drinks, and I suggested we try The Narrow when nobody else came up with a suggestion. Aside from my two buddies, it was completely empty when I arrived which was nice. We had the full attention of our delightful server and everything came out super fast. I started with the Warm Pretzels and Cheese which was DIVINE. The pretzels were steaming hot, the sauce was deliciously cheesy with the perfect amount of mustard. I was tempted to order a second plate after I finished mine, but I held back because I was eager to try the Mac n Cheese I've heard such good things about. So.. out came the Mac n Cheese. What the shit, Narrow Lounge? What... the shit. This is probably one of the worst Mac n Cheese dishes I've ever paid for. You know when you re-heat old Kraft Dinner and the flavour mysteriously disappears, so you pile on the salt? Yeeaaaaaaah. This was pretty much exactly the same with thicker noodles. The sauce seemed old and had started to get a little lumpy and it was pretty much cold by the time I reached the bottom of the bowl. It was also devoid of any flavour whatsoever, aside from all the salt I piled on. I felt pretty ripped off. It should have been about 50 cents, not $6. Cuz that's about how much it costs for half a box of Kraft dinner, and it felt like I was eating the leftovers. I should have just ordered a second plate of pretzels. read more

It took me forever to realize I had wandered away from Grace Gallery and into the Narrow. It was totally a pleasent suprise though! Sitting in the dark narrow bar adorned with "interesting" decor, you almost feel like your in the Twilight zone, however, the friendly staff reminds you that your not. Their beer list is good and the music they blare is pretty unique as well. When you eventually stumble out of the bar, you will most likely have trouble figuring out how you got there in the first place. read more
