Best meal we've ever eaten here! We hadn't been to The Narrows in about a year, and we noticed a big change in the quality of the food. The waitress explained that the restaurant was under new ownership and that the new owners prioritize fresh and local. It showed. We started with a cocktail -- I had the special martini made with Lynchée juice. Served in a frosty glass, it tasted like a slice of summer. We shared the crab dip small plate as an appetizer. It came out piping hot in a cast iron skillet with plenty of crab. I had one of the special entrees - the seared duck breast. It was tender with a lovely sauce to dip into. My husband had the salmon. The portion was generous, and it was served skin side up -- perfectly crispy! The accompaniments were also very generous. The desserts that passed our table looked amazing, but we just didn't have room for any more. But we'll definitely be back -- and will save room for dessert! P.S. The view of the river also makes this a perfect date night spot. read more

We ordered online to just pick up and go, and I would NOT recommend based on our experience. I ordered a salmon dish that was $31 and it was bland and just not it. It had herbs de Provence on top but it was like it was an afterthought and they weren't seasoned into the salmon, more like cooked the salmon plain & dipped it in the dry herbs after it was cooked. The parsnip puree it came with tasted more like butter than anything else so I avoided that. My friend ordered a burger done medium and she got a well done burger. What pissed me off the most is I ordered a jalapeño cheddar biscuit and when we walked in, I saw a piping hot one being walked to a table that was dining in. The girl who I was picking up my food with told me they didn't have anymore so asked if a plain biscuit was fine .. I was like no not really I don't want that and they had no idea what to do. We visited on the Fourth of July hoping for a nice early dinner with my 93-year-old mother-in-law. The restaurant has new owners and it shows. We were the only customers, and only a very limited lunch menu (mostly burgers) was available -- nothing like what was posted online. My $16 Bourbon Blackberry Smash arrived as watered-down pink club soda with almost no bourbon flavor. Two attempts later, it was still incorrect. The ambiance is incredible. A glowing fireplace on a chilly November day. The building was very cool. A very old place completely redone. The menu is small. My husband thinks there are too many burgers to choose from where other food items could replace. Saying that, he got the jalapeño burger and it was too large to bite into. It was one large pepper (which was breaded and deep fried) sliced in half and placed on top of the meat. He asked for it well done, it was medium well. He did say that the bun was great. I had the pub pierogies which were fantastic. I have never had pierogies with green onion, sautéed onions and apple purée with sour cream (I'm Polish), it was fabulous! Service was on point. My wife and I recently stopped in at The Narrows, and what a "great stop" it is. We were promptly greeted and welcomed, by Spiro at the bar, and settled in with a classic manhattan and the done dirty martini. absolutely delicious! Oh, and a bonus, we were there in time for happy hour. We sampled the; wings, chorizo tacos and the beef satay. Each appetizer was delectable, cooked and seasoned perfectly. I give a place a few shakes before I rate them unless they really stink then I come running to warn people. This place really is a toss up whether it will be good or not. I've had great meals here, bad meals, great service, bad service. All over the place. This was my gf's favorite spot up until the beginning of this year. We've come for brunch, lunch and dinner. Prices are always pretty high. I don't mind paying if things stay consistent. Well anyway last night was the tipping point. Went to see Burnt Mills Highballers after seeing them at local brewery. Sat down for date night, ordered octopus, burrata and lobster, crab egg rolls. Octopus was burnt, so hungry ate it anyway, didn't ask for a refund like a jerk. Honestly burrata was great on the little pieces of toast. Then the beer I wanted a refill on was tapped but it took forever to let me know it wasn't coming so I asked to cancel it. He still brought it to me and charged me for it. Then the final piece, the dessert. Ordered the donuts and they came out flat. Waiter dropped them and ran cause he knew it was terrible. Hate that this place isn't consistent. Prices should match the service and food. Also don't charge the band for drinks. After two visits to this spot, and holding out hope because of the location, I can't say this is a spot worth stopping at. Both times we have had beers that have a funky taste, as if the taps are not being cleaned regularly. The mixed drinks are sugary and are highly priced. The food is overpriced. The dishes are overall poorly crafted and prepared, some of our food came out cold & are generally smaller portions. Our soup was cold on the first visit. My most recent dish, the pork pappardelle, had whole, uncut peppers intermixed with the noodles. The pork was stringy and overcooked. The location is great, which has inspired both of our attempts to dine here, but each time we leave we are left feeling very disappointed and a little jipped. read more

My aunt and uncle were visiting from CA, and I wanted to take them somewhere special that I felt embodied this region in both ambiance and food. The Narrows delivers just that. To start, you will inevitably arrive to the restaurant by way of a gorgeous, scenic drive. You'll be taken aback by this historic building and the water gap right across the street. The building feels old and soulful, but it's also beautifully renovated and has a bustling bar (with inventive craft cocktails). The service is what you'd expect at a place like this-- warm. I loved our waitress. The food? All excellent and at prices that feel right for what you get. The fish and chips took my breath away; the burger was "the best burger" according to my dad, and the steak frites were like something you'd get in a Parisian bistro, but without all the pretense. All of the food is stuff you want to eat, but just elevated. And most importantly, you don't get the feeling The Narrows is trying to hard. It's just a damn good restaurant all around. The Narrows Inn once known as the Indian Rock Hill Inn on River Road in Upper Black Eddy, PA. Well, I never heard of the Narrows Inn until my neighbors decided to invite us to go to dinner. My mother, God bless her, introduced me to the Indian Rock Hill Inn 50 years ago. Now the Narrows Inn, is in a beautiful scenic spot along the Delaware River. Unfortunately it was dark outside this time of year. I guarantee if you go when the sun shines you would be delighted by the scenery. I read a recent review stating there were too many types of hamburgers. There are a lot of different types of hamburgers. I tried the standard cheeseburger and it was delicious. There are other upscale choices on the menu. Fried chicken, I was told was very good. The salmon was good. My wife tried the peach martini with my neighbor and was in seventh heaven. I had my favorite, Guinness Stout. Narrows is a fine place to socialize and enjoy a meal. For most, it is out of the way on River Road but worth the trip. $$-$$$. Parking is adequate. My wife and I were just looking for a place to grab a quick bite and a cocktail and whoa, did we stumble across a gem. The Location I mean right off the bat you're right there on the Delaware River with nice views from the outside seating or in the restaurant. The Venue Part of the dining room has 25-30 foot high ceilings with lots of windows and natural light coming in. A great bar and tables and booths and really comfy seating giving you a view of the River. It was Sunday brunch when we went and there was a musician playing guitar and singing the perfect Sunday brunch music at the perfect levels (didn't have to raise voice to talk). The place looks like it's from 1812, but immaculate and updated when needed while maintaining its 1800s charm. The Food This was the best part of it all. We ordered the steak and eggs. Perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned steak and a poached eggs over potatoes and chorizo with some home made chimichurri. We also has some fried chicken which had delicious and perfectly crispy skin with meat that you could literally juice and drink the chicken juice. The Staff Very nice and attentive. Made some some suggestions like their amazing home made doughnuts. Wow! There seems to be so much care and love going into the food from how they source their food to the presentation as well as a sense of great pride from the owners and the staff about this culinary delight. Let me begin by saying my first visit to the Narrows about a year ago was impeccable, the bartender was amazing, the appetizers we had at the bar for happy hour were incredibly flavorful and as described. Since that time I have taken family there for a Sunday luncheon, a visit that yielded a gift card because all three meals were undercooked, or cold, and flavorless. Upon my return with said gift card, today, I witnessed unwelcoming staff, and again had to return, this time, cold Florentine Benedict twice. The meal was appearance wise cooked, however every layer of egg, spinach, English muffin, hollandaise sauce, was barely warm, teetering on cold. Management took about 20 minutes to come to our seats, at which time apologized and offered to discount my meal from the Bill also offering a dessert which at breakfast time was inappropriate. I did however take my meal home and attempted to doctor it up so I would have something to eat for breakfast as that was my breakfast meal, and discovered a nice chunk of egg shell still attached to the egg, and a long gray hair in the meal (pictured). I am not one to put negative reviews on public display however I am at the point where I really love the look of this restaurant but the meals are for shit. read more

Dropped our kids off at summer camp and stopped here for an easy meal. Never anticipated the experience we all had. Almost all ingredients are made in-house. Great variety on menu. This place is for the experienced palate. Ambience was fantastic too. And the Inn is on the 3rd floor with four rooms to rent. Place is on same street as access to view the Delaware river. We loved the place. Stunned to find this amazing quality of food off the beaten path. If anywhere near this town it is a MUST. We will definitely return there. Dined in on 11-16-24 and our 2nd trip to this restaurant; 180 degrees out of phase compared to our visit in July of this year. Our July experience was terrific - the fried chicken came highly recommended and did not disappoint whatsoever; one of the best I've eaten and the driver behind our visit on 11-16. We ordered the exact same chicken entrée and it was completely different; in a bad way. The chicken was dry, the crust coming off, the quality of the chicken was way below the same dish we ordered in July. Hardly any meat on the chicken.....almost resembled small "chicken soup parts" that had been battered and deep fried. It was awful. The service was so, so.....not kidding when I say one of the wait staff kept showing up at our table asking if we wanted plates to clear while still eating....this happened between 5-6 times when there were clearly no plates to clear. On top of all this.....the bill for 4 people....good Lord....$160 with no alcohol and one person only ordering an appetizer. Man I hope it was just a bad night, but for now it's off my list for sure. read more

Another fabulous dining experience at the Narrows on River Road in Upper Black Eddy. Whether you're on your way to New Hope or coming back, the Narrows is worthy of a detour if not a destination trip. Located in a 200 year old tavern on the Delaware, this restaurant has reinvented itself better than ever. The oysters I had as an appetizer were perhaps the best oysters I've ever had. Served with champagne mignonette sauce and red pepper berries, this was a most memorable dish. My wife had the gazpacho with shrimp which left her raving and refusing to share. For the main course I had the rare tuna served on a soy reduction and my wife had the classic steak frites. The chef is the former owner of Blue Rose in Cape May which has been one of our favorites for years. The quality and attention to detail is spectacular. Add this to your list. Our first visit last night. Great ambiance inside as we asked to be seated in the main room adjacent to the bar. The appetizer of lobster and corn hushpuppies were the starter, followed by their signature burger. The Old Fashioned was well made as the Brandy Alexander. The Pecan tart was dry and a bit disappointing but that didn't take away from the rest of the meal. Our server, Ashley was attentive and exceptional.
