Bottom line for breakfast/brunch: good! You should go. Comfortable, good food, easy going space. This place has been around forever. I remember going with my grandmother when I was a kid, and that was a long time ago. As a kid, it struck me as a grown-up restaurant where adults drank coffee and you had to behave a the table. Grandma loved it and would dress up to go (but you never would catch her in jeans anyway). I'm not quite Grandma's age but I probably appreciate the ambiance more now than when I was 10. We were seated in a back room which had a low hubbub of chatter from other diners. Comfy table and chairs, and felt no pressure to finish quickly. Food was great - hubby got the ricotta pancakes which he loved and I got the potato hash which was very good. Large portions. Serving team were attentive and efficient. All in all, a solid place for a breakfast. Plenty of parking nearby.

The dark wood decor and dimly lit restaurant is not the most lively, but executed a solid bison burger. Wednesday is burger special day, and was pretty reasonably priced for dinner (~$15). The carrots with nuts on top were very thanksgiving flavored with cinnamon or nutmeg. I think the carrots and the burger were not a good match, but I enjoyed them both.

It was so busy. We waited like an hour. Waited at the table, it was around holiday time so it makes sense. The food was pretty good. I got a basic breakfast plate, this was the strawberry banana Nutella crepe. It had syrup drizzled on it. For how busy it was I was not the happiest but they seemed to have a wide variety of foods so I would love to come back and try!

Short rib hash The Comeback Burger with an egg Traditional Mariemont Breakfast Good food for breakfast, about a half hour wait. Service was subpar, not very friendly or attentive and had to ask for creamer and sugar for the hot coffee. Very busy spot for Sunday breakfast.

I love the Mariemont area of Cincinnati. We discovered the National Exemplar as we were looking for a good breakfast in the area. Great experience all around at 10am on a Monday. Very nice menu, excellent surroundings, super-duper service, and clean bathrooms (thanks for that). I can't wait to return for a dinner. It is attached to the Mariemont Inn.

Everything was absolutely delicious! I was shocked about the salmon and the everything bagel- it was absolutely phenomenal!!!!! Would 10/10 recommend you give this place a try. We shared the berry French toast as a table and it was delicious!! We brought our out of town family and they were so happy we went here. Cute, local place that we will absolutely be returning to.

This was my second time here. I happened to bring my mom and daughter this time because I raved about the pot roast that we had two weeks ago. I am sorry that I did. It was terrible. I feel that something was off with the sauce. The meat was good, but the rest of us were disappointed to spend $29 for a meal that wasn't good. I will come back, but I definitely will not get the pot roast again. The service is always great and the restaurant is always clean and it's in a nice little area . Was a little bit busier last night with large parties.

Came here for brunch on a Saturday; they use virtual waitlist on Yelp, but didn't even need to use it for our party of 4 at 11! We were able to get a table right away. Everyone enjoyed their food and we had excellent service. Definitely can't wait to come back and try some other brunch items and possible come back for dinner as well!

We came here for a nice family date night on a Sunday evening because my husband wanted to show me how cool the vibe was lol. It's a really old school place - my husband's kind of vibe lol. Anywho, we had a nice dinner here. Overall I would like to give my experience here a 3.5, but I'll round up. Our server was really nice and attentive. Our food came out in a timely manner too. - Volcano Pork Shank: This was definitely the star of the night. The pork shank was tender and cooked to perfection - this was really a perfect dish! And it was a huge portion! - Mushroom Truffle Garganelli: Your girl right here loves a good mushroom truffle dish.. but this.. was not it. I was honestly disappointed on this dish.. a few things here.. the dish was very watery.. meaning that they did not reduce the liquid from the mushroom enough and it lacked salt and cheese. I took half of this home and added some heavy cream and parmesan.. reduced it down and it tasted SO MUCH BETTER. Overall a nice experience, but I wish my dish was better.

Came in for some brunch this past weekend, it was my first time here and I was so pleasantly surprised! The indoor and outdoor dining area is very spacious, everything felt super cozy and comfortable. My fiancé order from their brunch menu and I got a couple things from their lunch menu. The service was quick and super friendly! There is a lobby attached that you can go and grab drinks and relax. We got their traditional breakfast plate and their half sandwich and half soup lunch special. For their sandwich I got the Donna chicken salad for their soup. I got their special of the day, chicken and vegetables with noodles. I would definitely come back to try other menu items, their dinners look amazing!

Ask the Community - The National Exemplar

Hi , hope I did it right I made a reservation for two for lunch on Thursday, December 29. It's our Christmas lunch together we would love the table by the fireplace. ❤️?

Hi Sharon, Thank you for posting your question about lunch at The National Exemplar. Unfortunately, we do not take reservations for breakfast or lunch. You can add your name to the digital waitlist on the Yelp app to get a spot in line before you…

My wife's Birthday is on Sunday Feb 28th so I was wondering if I can make a reservation for breakfast for a party of 9?

They don't take reservations for parties larger than 5.

Be aware it will be FAST. Look at the order ahead of time if you're a picky eater/drinker. They run your appointment like clockwork, and you'll be in-and-out, gulping down cocktails, through the entire experience. Your two drinks are included (this year, anyway), and I'd honestly be surprised if you managed to have time for a third. Time zips by fast. That being said, because they do it this way, you essentially have constant service, there's "events" that happen at the end of your reservation time, (I don't want to spoil it, but cover your drink!), and then they kick you out. Service was friendly, though, and I saw the server make time to take group photos for all of the tables (including ours) with someone at the table's camera. (No bullshit "group photo" upsells here) It's kinda loud, though, and I wouldn't recommend this as a chill meet-up-and-socialize spot. (If you wanna talk, they have an addendum, Christmas-themed laid-back bar next door.) It's more of a "get blasted in the face by Christmas for an hour and then leave" experience. It's pretty loud, and talking can be a bit difficult over the music and constant interruptions (more drinks? Photos? Cute Christmas video montage?) But this works in its favor as it feels the most Christmas, over-the-top, and seasonal out of all the holiday bars I've ever been to. It also keeps it from feeling too crowded as reservations are required, so you for-sure have a seat and you don't have to stand forever in line to wait for drinks. I'd probably guesstimate that bar staff is making all of their seasonal drinks, constantly, and servers just pick one up to deliver. With the capacity in here, it would make sense. No idea what the bar is like the rest of the year; this is just a review for the Miracle pop-up which, again, is probably the best I've been to in the Midwest. Cincinnati, you're spoiled down here. (Sidenote, I was absolutely taken aback by their TV presentation on the wall. It's hard to describe, but it isn't just a projector showing a giant rectangle. It's specifically slotted into the holes in-between holiday decorations. Staff told me that had to hire special technicians to get it to show up that way and that's seriously a level of detail I am so amazed by.)

The seating is nicely thought out and arranged for whatever kind of party you may be bringing. The little back area would be awesome for a small gathering! Unsure if it was because of the staffing on the night we visited, or it is always this way, but despite being tables all over, there was no table service. All drinks had to be ordered at the bar and carried to the tables - there was no indication of this. Our initial wait at the bar was unmet, so we went and sat at a table assuming we'd be helped there instead, then after some time of nothing, one of us returned to the bar and waited again for service... so it was a pretty clunky start.

I love all the different and cool concepts for drinks they have and they also seem to have a special every night for different spirits which is so fun. I'm sure you'll find a drink you'll like too, and I also love when places have mocktails too! The only thing that is kind of annoying is that they don't have a food selection so you'll have to eat before you come. I do see some people bring in food from element eatery so I think that is allowed. My friend raves about the espresso martini and one of my favorites is the role model (add gin if you want a cocktail)!
