Stopped in for the first time to get a pizza to go. Small private lot in front, off of busy 12 Mile. I also looked around the store. Staff was great, nice, helpful, friendly. The store was very clean, but sort of shabby chic. Run down in an old fashioned way, if that makes sense. Lots of beer choices, good wine selection, lots of last minute items for cooking or an impromptu get together. Quality meat and cheeses. They did have a large selection of the spice kits for cooking, that used to have their own store down the road. The pizza was not great. read more

I am personally thankful for this store. This store has so many high quality and creative items in stock, and they are such amazing people. By far my favorite Berkley business. The owners have fully embraced the city and it shows. The store is creative and fun. Great craft beer selection, a growing wine selection with wine tastings. The food selection isn't large, but well thought out. The pizza and sandwiches are far above average and they even carry fruits and vegetables. Checked out this shop yesterday to see what other options were nearby. Happy to say I was delighted to see the diverse selection of wine and beer. Not to mention cheese, meat, drinks, and other food. (Including noses head meats and looked like sandwiches.) The store was clean, the woman at the counter appeared to know everyone and was friendly and helpful. Soda, regular beer, craft beer, fancy wines, baking ingredients, knick knacks, dog food, cheese, cute greeting cards, etc. Second, they are always organizing some sort of community event. Stopped in this shop to check it out and see their selection. They have a great beer selection and a perfect wine selection for a corner store (ie big selection in ~$10 bottles, perfect for when you need to grab a couple bottles for dinner). They have the food selection you'd expect in a convenience store but taken up a notch, with some fresh staples (garlic, fruit, etc). I'm sure this section will continue to evolve as the business finds it's sweet spot. Most importantly the owner and staff were extremely friendly. They even delivered my beer and wine to my door as I walked back with the dog :) Like another reviewer said, I will gladly pay a couple dollars extra (and continue to shop there) because of the customer service. That I can't remember what even occupied the property before they opened is a testament to the enduring appeal of The Neighbors Shoppe. They transformed a rather down on its luck party store into a slick, hip bastion to all things microbrewed and locally distilled, bottled, and grown. Berkley doesn't exactly hurt for liquor stores, but the Neighbors Shoppe sets itself apart by selecting bottles of Michigan beers and wines, some ciders, and a few odds and ends you normally have to go a specialty store for. They immediate got a star for starting to carry a favourite flavour of lambic impossible to locate anywhere other than Rochester Hills' Whole Foods, and I need to wipe out the last of their stock as an excuse to get more. For $15, you can try some outstanding libations without breaking the bank, and that's well worth the stop on the way to a party or barbecue. Beyond wines and libations, they have a full stock of cocktail party nibbles that spares you the run to five different spots. Fresh dips and salads in a refrigerated case provide a good selection of healthy alternatives from local sources. Snatch up some bread, meat, and cheese from their deli case, which definitely surprised me the first time I saw it. You can walk up and order a custom sandwich or rely on their premade options, and calling to order ahead saves time and fuss. I've come here for a box of crackers or a few rare candies, and a wander of the shelves reveals everything from extra virgin olive oil to cat foot, just in case you need a pick up. I don't associate party stores with bright, modern spaces full of interesting gourmet finds, like German chocolate or a particular brand of Swedish cookie I have come to love for its ginger tartness. The Neighbors Shoppe is more like going into your really cool neighbours' pantry and asking to borrow a cup of sugar, knowing full well they probably have an assortment of exotic spices and gourmand's treats. Word to the wise: the pizza here is inexpensive and surprisingly delicious. We bought an entire pie to carry down to a Berkley festival and deeply enjoyed every bite. Made daily on site, the pepperoni and the veggie options are great. Their calzones are also tasty though competition in the area is pretty fierce. ADVICE: Get the pizza! read more

Came here Saturday night just to play my lotto. Realized the stored had changed ownership so hoping they still did lottery. The owner of the shop was putting out delicious looking pizzas. She was very kind and helpful. I can tell that they want to actually build a connection with their patrons. I loved the new look of the place. It made it more trendy and modern. The beer selection is AMAZING and it always takes me an hour to figure out what I want. I haven't been here for almost two years since I've moved out of state, and I still don't think I've found a place in my new neighborhood that even compares. Going to this place is like visiting a friend's home. They're always so cordial and fun and are really just want to make their customers have a great experience. There are so many positive things I could say, but I'll mention a few that stand out. First, there were times I wanted a bottle of wine for a gathering just as they're closing--Donna (the owner) stayed open a bit extra, picked out a wine she knew I'd like and had it ready for me 30 minutes after closing. Second, they have an ever-expanding selection of wine and beers, snacks (I remember some awesome chocolate chip cookies) and other knick-knacks that are pretty fun. I was there pretty regularly and don't think I had the same wine more than a few times. Third, one time I was suggested a wine but was unsure if I would like it--so Donna opened a bottle, let me try a sip and then let me buy an unopened bottle since I did like it! She opened one just so I could try it! This place is a one stop shop--for friendly faces and conversation, lovely drink choices, and some yummy snacks / food. I randomly stopped in to see what this place was all about a couple of weeks ago, and I walked out with a couple of semi-limited IPA's. I finally got back today to try the pizza, and I was blown away. The crust has the perfect texture - chewy and soft at the same time. The sauce is the perfect balance of letting the tomato shine and spices. The toppings were fresh and used in the perfect amount. We also got their breadsticks, which were delicious as well. The owners were working this morning, and they were pleasant and helpful. All this to say that I will be back - this is my go to pizza spot from now on. read more

I stopped in recently after reading so many good things on the Nextdoor social media app. I love that they took a convenience store and place that was - let's face it - pretty generic and dated, and turned it into something unique for our community. The owners are nice and so eager to offer good service. It's clear that they take great pride in this place and it makes me want to be a regular patron. It shows that's there's really no "magic" to running a business like this - just some passion, hard work, and commitment to excellence. Speaking of excellence, the reason I stopped and was to pick up one of their ready-to-bake pizzas and a 6-pack. When they handed it over, I'll admit that I was a little underwhelmed at first.
