What a fantastic venue with even more fantastic views! I have visited the Newhall Nest for several different meetings. This venue spot atop in San Francisco offers some amazing ambience in the heart of the city just north of Market Street. Given the state of the city due to COVID-19 restrictions, the streets are kind of bare at times when they were once bustling. However, this offers an even more interesting look at California Street and the city from a penthouse perch. It's kind of strange to see this part of the city so, well, empty. However, it's fun to actually hear the sound of birds singing from atop this building. You also get some nice views of the bay and even Angel Island in between the buildings. The Newhall Nest is located about two-and-a-half blocks from Market Street, five blocks from the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, five blocks from the Dragon Gate to Chinatown and just three-and-a-half blocks from the Transamerica Pyramid. The building isn't far from restaurants, coffee/tea shops and public transit -- including MUNI stops nearby. If I'm traveling from the peninsula to this part of the city, I usually take Caltrain to the downtown station (4th and King) and simply walk, bike or use a scooter to my destination. The hip-yet-elegant classic urban vibe will fit for many different kinds of events. I was here for work meetings; yet, this can easily fit well for weddings, receptions, presentations, work events and both formal and business-casual meetings. It's intimate yet not claustrophobic. It's elegant yet not pretentious. It really is a great spot! As for summer temperatures: It can be chilly in the summer times -- especially in the mornings, evenings and when the fog rolls in. Consequently, you might want to check the weather before your meeting. Personally, I enjoy the "fresh" feel with the open air here. Tip: If you're driving, COVID has provided something that I never thought that I would see -- meter parking spaces along the Embarcadero! I've had the opportunity to park right in front of the Ferry Building on the west side of the street.

What a fantastic venue! The Newhall Nest is a classy, wonderfully decorated rooftop destination ready for almost any event. We chose this venue for my wife's surprise 50th birthday party and WOW... WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!! We ended up renting the venue for 5 hours, added a bartender, brought in some finger foods, and augmented with a few decorations. In addition, we invited an intimate group of friends which was perfect for the space. The rooftop itself has sweeping views overlooking the Financial District; it includes indoors dining/kitchen/bath/living rooms along with a beautiful outdoor gathering area for dancing, etc. Interior decor is Gatsby/Art Deco with natural history displays and curios placed throughout (this is a big selling point for those of you who are into that sort of thing). The rooftop extends around the building about 3/4 of the way with tables/chairs/heaters spaced around the perimeter. The website has a really nice 3D view (and photos) that I'd recommend looking at... and if you can imagine, it's even more impressive in person! As for the booking, the staff was so professional throughout the entire process (thanks Nathalia!). They were very responsive from the get go and helped guide me through some of the various progressions to get things in order. Most impressively, the venue was very affordable for the impressive space you received in return. Personally, I don't think you'll find a better rooftop value for the money in San Francisco! On the big night, my wife and I ate at a restaurant close the Embarcadero and walked over a few short blocks to a "secret rooftop bar". My wife had no idea that 50 of her closest friends and family would be waiting on the top floor. She was completely surprised and it was a MAGICAL night - one we'll remember for a long time! During the party, almost everybody in attendance said something to the effect of "How'd you find this place? It's amazing!" The Newhall Nest is one of those San Francisco "hidden gems" you have to experience at least once. It is truly an AMAZING VENUE!!!

The 3pm coffee break is not bad. But pretty much after that it's downhill - the sales team promises a community but really it's a Coworking space with uncomfortable sitting for working and member predominantly prefer not to interact much from 9-4pm - cafe doesn't really need to try because they have a captive audience as no outside food is allowed. Food is okay unless you are unlucky like me and get myself and my friend food poisoning from their strawberry matcha latte $13.50 each. We got our refund but no word of apology. - cafe staff is more likely not to know how to process your member credit. More than 50% of the time using your member credit is an uncomfortable experience and they just like to blame another team for why they are not trained. - the space is closed or partially closed whenever they can get it rented. Everything you would want and need is all within a 10 min walking distance. The parking is valet only and they charge $75-$100 a night so we parked around the corner at one of the many parking garages that are MUCH cheaper so I'd recommend that. The hotel was super nice, they even have cocktail hour with wine, beer, lemonade and apple cider which is a nice touch. No snacks though just drinks but still a nice gesture especially in this economy. They are dog friendly and do not charge extra for your dog staying. The aesthetics is nice, the restaurant attached to this hotel is also really nice. Overall I'd definitely recommend. Oh and upon checkout-we were assured by a lovely lady at the counter named Mary. She was so pleasant and sweet to talk to. We laughed about staycations and Napa Valley. She was such a sweetheart. Glad we chose this place. We will be back!

Unfortunately, this stay fell far short of the experience and it delivered like a Holiday Inn. The biggest disappointment was the front desk. We stood at the front desk for over 10 minutes on Monday waiting to be acknowledged -- both the AM and especially the PM staff didn't care to look above their monitors. We were not greeted. Not told, "We'll be right with you." Just completely ignored by the front desk staff while they went about their business. Hospitality starts with making guests feel seen, and this hotel failed at the most basic level. The owner of this location might as well hire AI robots to check guests in. It might attract more customers. If you're a CSR member, this hotel does not give any Edit benefits. It isn't worth staying at even with the "Select" IHG credit, IMO. I also have AX platinum and I noticed they provided early check in for those guests but their amenities are also not worth the booking for benefits. The room was equally underwhelming. It felt tired and dingy rather than stylish or boutique. The addition of a record player in the room plus a pet plant you can get at the front desk is a lame way to call an old building "boutique." To make matters worse, the motorized curtains repeatedly glitched in the middle of the night, opening on their own several times and waking us up. It's a small detail that became a big annoyance when all you want is a good night's sleep. The one bright spot was Dean, the concierge. He was genuinely warm, welcoming, and embodied the kind of hospitality I expected from the entire hotel. He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel like valued guests. Dean was the only reason this review isn't one star. A boutique hotel can have quirky décor or minor maintenance issues if the service is exceptional. But when you're ignored at check-in, given a room that feels worn, and then have your sleep interrupted by malfunctioning curtains, it's hard to justify the premium price. Kimpton Alton has potential, but until the front desk team understands that acknowledging guests is Hospitality 101, I won't be returning.

I luckily live walking distance so it's easy for me to get to. They have tons of outlets, and even offer chargers, mouse, keyboard, monitors if needed. If you are here during lunch time, there is a ton of great restaurants nearby to eat at or pick up food to eat while you work. I have a dog, and it's nice that they are super dog friendly! Even though I wasn't able to make it on the originally scheduled day, Teddy went above and beyond and came in on a day when the space was already booked for an event and very busy. He helped me get everything done quickly and efficiently. This was also around the holidays, so I'm especially grateful for the extra effort. NEON is a co-working space, but it has such a friendly, down-to-earth vibe. I really appreciate their flexible pricing model. You can pay for a day pass ($25) or by the hour ($5), which makes it affordable without feeling locked into a subscription you have to constantly justify. I'll definitely be coming back to do work here more often, meet people, and enjoy the amenities. There's even an outdoor space, which is a great bonus. Huge shoutout to Teddy and the NEON team for creating such a vibrant, cozy, and inviting space. Everyone is genuine, thoughtful, and happy to help with anything you might need. Highly recommend. Definitely check it out!
