I haven't been here in years! Many of you don't remember when the Meteron first opened this Cityview event space at the Metreon in San Francisco was formerly a play space called "Where the Wild Things Are" inspired by Maurice Sendak's book, which opened in 1999 and closed in 2004. The 4th floor space where the play area was located was later gutted and transformed into the Cityview event venue and balcony with city views today. I happened to work at the Moms Against Poverty gala event. The layout was very well planned and fit everyone one. There was a silent auction where guests could bid on lovely items, mostly Iran related items, ceramics, art, paintings, beauty, gift certificates. Everyone was very nice and we all worked well together. I had fun at this event to make sure guest questions were answered and assisted them with the silent auction. Some background of this nonprofit, Moms Against Poverty started in 2006 when its founder, Delfarib Fanaie, was inspired by a young girl in an Iranian orphanage named Sepideh, who asked, "Why can't you take me with you?". Delfarib was unable to answer the child's question. Because of this incident, she was determination to help impoverished children. In 2008, Delfarib rallied friends, family, and colleagues, and together they founded the non-profit organization to fight childhood poverty through education, health, and compassion. The location is great as it is close to public transportation and parking garage is a block away. The views are great as you can see, as it overlooks the Yerba Buena gardens and famous landmark like the Musuem of Modern Art. Hotels are also near by as well and City College of San Francisco Downtown campus. read more

San Francisco is a very special place with mind boggling twists and magic. Zine Fest was held at this event space. It was open to the public today no fee. I was happy to find this event and look around City View. Then I wanted to watch the Prince movie at 1:30pm. read more

We attended a company anniversary party here in SF with about 500 people. The views were amazing and it was almost a pleasant evening outside with no high winds. It did get a little chilly later. There were 4 food stations available plus lots of drinks. Great place to hold a big company party or even a wedding. read more

Lots of memories here at City View. I took my kids here when it was the "Where the Wild Things Are" Maurice Sendak amusement park and "Night Kitchen" restaurant. Then the Titanic exhibit--complete with frozen iceberg. Now City View is an event venue. I've attended half a dozen Pepcom media events here. Usually a decent assortment of companies displaying their latest tech offerings. The venue is great: wonderful views of the city, and an open space for many tables or booths. The catering has always been good, and, of course, the open bar is always nice (but please tip your bartenders!) restrooms are in the hall outside the entrance, which isn't super convenient, but they are modern and clean. Parking garage across the street is convenient--and has been validated for every event I've attended, so that's a bonus, especially here in the city! read more

I came here several times for an event. It has been a good space for the events I attended, both in the daytime and evening. I found the staff at the events to be efficient in clearing and replenishing the food items when low. The location is easy to get to by Bart, especially in the evening. Who wants to walk far to a Bart station? A great space to hold any type of function. read more

I wasn't sure if I'd ever have the opportunity to tackle the beast of City View in my lifetime, but I was recently fortunate enough to execute a 500-person conference there. Our point of contact was Christine, who was amazing throughout the whole planning process. I was a little intimidated and enamored by her expertise but learned so much. Every walkthrough was filled with education moments about San Francisco building codes and event design ideas. Christine was always on top of communication and providing resources. We couldn't have done it without her. The venue itself is impressive. On the 4th floor of the Metreon, it overlooks SOMA... Absolutely stunning and especially on a sunny day. Inside, it's an empty canvas for which you need to procure every vendor imaginable. The load-in procuredures made this easy, though. Some benefits of City View... Target and many eateries are nearby. It's near public transit. It's one floor above the AMC Theater, so you don't have random people walking around. The one downside is how expensive it is, but you really get what you pay for. I hope I have the chance to do it again! read more

They set up coat check each time I've been here. Service is attentive even with their catering service! The place can be crowded on the day with new movies coming out... A group of us went to the San Francisco Craft Spirits Carnival on Friday, September 9th. It started at 5:30pm, but my group of three made a quick bar stop first, so we didn't meet everyone until 7:15pm. City View at Metreon has amazing views. Sure, it's not super high, but you get nice views of the city while feeling like you're surrounded by all it's beautiful buildings. The event made use of the space well. It's not super big inside, so all the vendors were laid out efficiently. I don't know if there was a rhyme or reason to how each type of alcohol vendor was placed, but I managed to drink most of the dark liquors: bourbon, rye, whiskey, etc. Outside on the patio, were the food vendors and more spirit vendors. There was one making cocktails and even gave us a free craft spirits shirt for either liking them on Facebook or following them on Instagram? This was towards the end of the night, so I can't quite remember. Very nice venue for what I can imagine to be an assortment of events. Happy I finally went to the Craft Spirits Carnival, let alone went to City View at the Metreon. It's so pretty outside. I'm a sucker for a view after all. read more

City View truly has an iconic city view! With a venue space that opens up into a large ballroom space as well as beautiful terrace, this venue is booked for everything from holiday parties to business event space. I attended a work holiday extravaganza here and we had a Cirque-du-Soleil type performer who was suspended from silk wraps and pouring champagne for arrivals. It was amazing..! There is ample space for food buffets (we had at least 7) anchored by a large center bar. There was seating for at least 150-200. And there was a convenient coat check area as well. All in al a great venue space. read more

City View at Metreon is on the 4th floor of this large complex, which started off as the Sony Metreon decades ago, with a Sony store that was a bit like an Apple Store is today anchoring the businesses. The Metreon just completed a total make-over, with a large Target store as the new anchor, and most of the stores replaced by an eclectic Food Court surrounding the AMC movie theater ticketing areas. The City View is a multi-purpose meeting venue, with spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, from its many patios or large glass windows. The area can accommodate a party of up to 2,000 people, so it is large. I came here recently for an international Luxury Brand's party for its top sales people in the Americas, and it was a great party, well planned. Perfect venue for your next large corporate party, or if you have an unlimited guest list and budget for your reception. read more

Worth going to any event here just for the stunning SF skyline view! I had the privilege of attending Upload VR's virtual reality world tour kickoff here. It was definitely on the crowded side with VR enthusiasts waiting up to half an hour to try out Oculus Rift: http://bit.ly/1yj9g4j zSpace had a cool demo too and their employees were able to answer all my questions about VR's many uses. My senses were electrified and I had many nerdgasms as I partook in demos spanning media, education, 3D audio, and design all while live DJ's spun some of my favorite electronica beats. Drinks were a tad overpriced & I'm glad they allowed re-entrance w/ wristband so we could hit up one of the close by bars to grab a better crafted cocktail. I had no idea this venue existed prior to the event but I'd love to return! read more

Pretty sweet venue for all sorts of events and festivities. Fantastic city views guaranteed. The event space is pretty big - a large and wide room with direct access to toilets on the right and the spacious patio on the left. You'll have to enter through the Metreon though, along with many visitors of the cinema located in the same building. Parking is easy in the 5th and Mission garage. read more

This is a great place to through a large event, wedding, Holiday Party, etc. I was invited to the Mothers Against Poverty (MAP) Fundraiser, a charity dinner and dancing event. Reason for visit: Special event Visit date: October 7, 2015 First time? Yes. This is a great space for large events. There is an open floor plan and it feels very exclusive. The balcony view is nice during the day and night, but mostly the night because of all the city lights. I was here for a Renaissance Center event; my friend was a student. Their set up allowed for a vendor/booth area, a cocktail hour area, and a ceremony/sit-down dinner area. There was even a dance floor set up and plenty of room for mingling. Note: Later in the evening, the elevator might not allow you to go up to the top floor. Take the elevator as far as it will take you and then take the escalator the rest of the way. read more

A pretty decent place to hold an event, but some things just don't work in this venue. I went here for the Tekken 7 Tournament Finals, and it was a blast. But when the bright sky of SF goes through the walls of windows, it really affects your view of the big screen The place is huge. Plenty of room for different things to be happening. We had a section devoted to trying Dragon Ball FighterZ, a section to view to tourney, a spot for autographs, and plenty of room for vendors. I would definitely come back for another event. read more

(See pics) Review #1182. I felt privileged to get invited through Yelp (sweet thanks to Jessica and Jon!!) to an event hosted at the City View. While the building is getting a makeover with the new Target store, the view stays as an amazing and unique venue to host parties, wedding receptions and corporate events. It has covered tents so even on days that could be windy, you are covered. As the day turned and the night fell, it was a completely different feel of the event! The venue also has a very spacious indoors area that can easily accommodate and up to 2000 guests! On the day we attended, it was not only launching the newly renovated building, we were also able to taste many bites of the catering companies, something that generally is not all that easy to evaluate until an event like this when you can try out all at the same time, from small sweet bites like macrons, chocolate or rice crispy balls, to sushi, oysters, and to bartending catering! And there were also some theme setting companies (think earthy vs. exquisite theme with special lighting that can easily make your event uniquely remembered and impress your guests or even future clients. And don't forget the music, the evening was filled with a guitarist, a couple classical musicians who had the music wired and flowing throughout the venue. read more

We got married here in July 2011, and I spaced on writing the review until now. This venue is a huge (HUGE), blank canvas with breathtaking views of the garden/waterfall/cityscape, and a huge patio. There is also a kitchen, which was great for our caterers, and a large, enclosed room that we used for our kids' room (there were lots of kids in attendance). Parking in the garage directly across the street is also extremely convenient. If I do say so myself, our wedding was epic. This space is untouchable by any other city venue, and if you ever have a reason to throw or attend a party here, do it. Epic. Heard that they're trying to rent this event space for 15K. Seriously? It's great, once you add 30K in pipe-and-drape, furnishing and lighting. Of course, you could make a fallout shelter shine with 30K in pipe-and-drape, furnishing and lighting. Without bringing some MAJOR party bling, this is not a special space. I'd been to City View before and it really is a fantastic space to hold any kind of event, no matter how big or small. I was here for San Francisco Magazine's Best of The Bay event it was a fun environment with a lot of people. For the City View Showcase last night, it was still fun, but had a more elegant and relaxed feel. They work with a few different designers and caterers to customize the perfect event just for you. No matter what the theme, they can do it. To top it all off, you get an amazing view of the city as well as having an outdoor area for guests - not too many places do this in the city, so it's great to have a spot like this available. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

Great venue! I came here for the SF Weekly DISH event, and like the other reviewers said, it's really spacious. Even though there were a lot of people, it still stayed very well ventilated. The outdoors patio had a beautiful view of SF too. I've uploaded a photo, so check it out. read more

Fabulous venue, great big terrace and exceptional food. Went here for a function and loved it. It's spacious, trendy and cool location which was set up beautifully for the function. The food was to die for :-)) they had a variety of food station with hot and cold options and everything was delicious. The dips were divine and the mini burgers were fabulous. They also had a variety of other food all of which was tasty. My absolute favourite was the crumbled chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and candied nuts....yummmmm :-) Service was great and the bartenders were fabulous and made a great mix of cocktails. I would happily come back here for a function. The view is great and venue is superb. read more

First and foremost a huge shout out to City View Metreon for the Yelp Elite invite to the event last night. And nice meeting Jon, our new Yelp Community Leader. The venue was spacious with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. The preferred vendors did a wonderful job. Staged beautifully. Only in San Francisco where you can enjoy delicious nibbles and drinks, and absorb the City's icons like SFMOMA and the art deco building back of MOMA. Located up on the 4th floor, you can gain access via the elevator, the escalators, or the stairs. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and thanks again for the opportunity to sample great food and drinks in a wonderful venue. read more

Just went to an event here, and although the space was pretty cool, I was a little disappointed by their utilization of the outdoor areas. Really doesn't seem like a good place to hold back to back seminars for an event due to it usually being pretty darn windy. It was incredibly hard to hear the speakers. I wish that the venue was more flexible in the options it offered to host people, but the views are definitely spectacular and a big plus for the space. read more

Metreon was one of the first sexy hot spots for SOMA entertainment when it first opened. Over the years, the Sony store, the theaters, and the food court were just not enough to keep things lively here. After a revamp and ownership change to Westfield, it looks like things are coming around now. Invited to an event organized at this venue, I had no idea what to expect as my last visit here was to see the Where the Wild Things Are display. Westfield did not hesitate to pull any stops in hosting this event, showcasing their work here. They converted this huge room into an events and function room, enough to host parties of up to 2,000 (1,200 capacity for inside, 800 capacity for patio). The space was decorated beautifully in a variety of themes, including the outer patio area which has views of MOMA and the other new structures facing the eastern party of the City. The first room gave a rustic feel with a variety of a country supper room and each of the following rooms had varying themes (summer, club/lounge feel, etc.). The some food was served and provided by Paula LeDuc fine catering, while Global Gourmet Catering made a delicious Gazpacho with prawn and a variety of other munchies. Food-wise, my favorite was the pineapple coconut candy from Melons Catering; they also had a good selection of chocolates available at the event. Walking to the patio area, more snacking foods and desserts were available and Rye set up a four-station bar area with a mix of non-alcoholic and varying degrees of cocktails. Loved my watermelon and lemonade drinks here. With the rain showers from earlier during the day, they strategically covered the patio area in case an unscheduled weather change occurred. In the rear area of the room (almost with the most lighting), a sushi caterer fed the guests from the hospitality industry and Yelp Elites. Nino Rodriguez of Westfield gave us the 411 on the logistics in renting the room as well as ideas; he also had a list of preferred vendors in organizing almost any type of event here. Also, a big thanks to Jon A, Yelp's new SF CM, and Jessica T for the invite. PS Wouldn't mind having the Yelp Christmas Party here... hint hint hint! read more

I would have never expected such a stunning locale to sit atop the Metreon complex, but wow...City View is exactly what it's name implies: a gorgeous venue for taking in the majestic SF skyline by day or night. We scored some hot tix to Le Soiree (which I highly recommend for le best of French culture - food, wine, and beautiful people), where City View was transformed into a dark and sultry haven of fanciness. The high ceilings really add a touch of grandiosity, and one entire side of the space opens up onto a huge patio where the vista awaits. Getting some fresh air never felt so magical. Walkable from Montgomery or Powell BART, this is one venue you don't want to pass up a chance to party at. It may look like a humble modern building from the outside, but the view deserves beaucoup stars. read more

First time I checked out this space was for San Francisco Magazine's Best of the Bay party back in July. The event is a huge production and one of the best I've been to. In addition to using the entire space inside at the City View they also had tents enclosing the outdoor space for more restaurants and wineries, as well as the VIP lounge with reserve wines, premium liquor, and a delicious oysterbar from Waterbar. They used the back area as a stage for some live performances at the end of the evening which was awesome. This event really got me excited about City View because prior to this I had no idea the Metreon even had a 4th floor! SF Weekly's DISH event was great but definitely wasn't quite as well organized. Even worse the entry management was a mess, which wasn't our fault but made Eventbrite look pretty awful since we did the ticketing for the event... Eventbrite should make it easy for organizers to get through the door but there was a huge line and bottleneck with a group that did their registration with GoldStar. Kinda disappointing but we had volunteers helping out with our iPhone check-in app that was able to scan Eventbrite tickets and get people through the door. Also have been to BizTechDay which is a startup conference and it was interesting how they used the space compared to the other events I've been to here. There was a demo area, expo stage, and main stage in the back partitioned by a black curtain. Cool space, and based on my experience you can do a lot with it to make it work for your event! read more

Like most of the Yelp Elites that wrote a review, Thank you to City View Metreon for extending the invite to Yelp Elites on May 3, 2012. I have been at this venue in various occasions. One was very informal shopping event, one was my company's holiday x-mas party and the event that happened just recently for some Yelp Elites! Each occasion was different, as they say "the world is your oyster," I feel like when I come to City View, the world is really its oyster. Everything you can imagine you want at an event can certainly be done here. My x-mas party, we had a dance floor, various themes in each room, and a very large table of desserts (reminds me of Harry Potter and the long table of food) with demonstrations done by extraordinary dessert chefs! View is spectacular on a clear night. At the event where Yelp Elites were invited, each room really had its own taste. Outside had a modern white theme, first room had a more nature theme, on to a more chic modern hip lounge theme, and then on to a more picnic outside theme with patio umbrellas. Outside on the balcony, there were tents and designs of what banquet tables can look like. I was just amazed by the lighting, designs and various ideas that this place can hold for any occasion. The only downside to the whole thing is that if you plan a wedding or any special event, your guests will have to enter the main downstairs lobby (walking past all of the shoppers and movie goers before heading to your actual event). Maybe it would be nice for a more elegant event, they should have a private elevator away from all the other people. read more

I really like this venue for parties. The bathroom facilities are clean and plentiful, the venue is well guarded and on a beautiful day or night the terrace over looking Yerba Buena is sublime. I like that it is secluded. I'll be back soon. read more

This is the hidden lair of the deserted Metreon. We stopped here for the ThreadShow and it was way too crowded once the day went on. It's a good place for events though and there is an awesome view, especially on a nice day. Seek it out before they turn the Metreon into a Target. read more

Maybe I'm a bit biased because I just had a GREAT holiday party here. The space is really great. It doesn't seem that big, but with the outside and the inside, with all thousands of us, it didn't seem too packed. It was sometimes difficult to find somewhere to sit, but there were so many great things happening that we didn't really mind. I will agree with one person's comment regarding walking past everyone going to the movies and food court while dressed up, there were a lot of people arriving when I did so I didn't care too much. It did seem like that there was a natural filter of people going up to the City View. I was a little worried that we were going to get other people in our party since there was free alcohol and food, but I think since everyone was very nicely dressed, it was a natural filter for people to not come up to the City View. Great drinks and food. There was a wide variety of food which was much better than the last holiday party place (that will go unnamed). Enough area to have lots of food and drink counters, a whole candy bar, and at least 8 different casino tables. The view was great - however, it was blocked by coverings which I totally understand since December = cold, but it wasn't too bad with the coverings. Honestly, it only got a little cold when we left at around 11pm. Perfect place for a party and a well executed one at that! read more
