This was the first casual restaurant I took my now husband to and the food was great although the place seemed run Down. We were weekly customers because my then-fiancé loves it so much and he could not get enough. Fast forward to 10/26. We should've known something was not right since it was dinner time and the restaurant was empty. We ordered our food and sat for about 15 mins. My wife and I had to get our driver's licenses renewed at the SOS facility across the street, and we decided to stop and have lunch. I love places that exude the ethnicity it touts, that is to say a place that caters more to the locals rather than the tourists (which, by the way, there aren't many of them around here). To be sure, when you walk in you KNOW you've entered a Middle Eastern Restaurant. The old-timers are hangin' and you definitely get 'the eyeball' as you enter should you be, say, 'other' than Middle Eastern. But, immediately we were greeted with glee and welcomed and told to sit wherever we felt comfortable. The service was great, prompt, helpful. The menu is short and sweet, with kabobs and Falafils. Because it was lunch I ordered a Falafil sandwich ($4) with everything which means a great homemade cucumber sauce, and a killer hot sauce on the side....and fresh, fresh, fresh. My wife had the combo plate (about $13) upon recommendation, which turned out to be the thing to do. The meats were tender, well presented and a grand example of quality Middle Eastern Fare. Lunch prices were very reasonable and I suspect the dinner menu doesn't change. Put aside your unmitigated, current political climate, unwarranted paranoias and embrace this place. I have a new favorite place and I am going to explore more Bridgeview Middle Eastern restaurants,... and someday I'll get the balls to go into one of them all male smoking Houkah joints. Thanks to Yelp I stumbled upon falafel and pita heaven. The Nile is a total gem. I loved the music, the food and the friendly service. We started with a hummus appetizer. It had a great garlic and olive oil flavor. I also really liked the whole chickpeas in the middle. It came with four or five pitas that were equal parts fluffy and chewy. I also ordered the falafel sandwich and my husband got the beef kabob. We were barely able to talk to each other as we groaned from deliciousness. The Nile also has a really fun atmosphere. While we were there, we saw lots of families and it was packed the entire time. I think I strained my neck trying to see all of the items they ordered. My manager eats here a lot, and took me for lunch one day. This was the most delicious food I have ever eaten - the falafel was delightfully crunchy, and I definitely recommend the hummus with meat. The shewerma was really the best part, and the loads of fresh pita sealed the deal. (Our waiter was even kind enough to give me some extra pita to go with my leftovers, without even blinking.) Unlike Al Bawadi across the street (87th), The Nile has a very casual (almost fast-food) decor and vibe. The mere fact that both restaurants are still open, despite being about a football-field away from each other, shows that each meets different needs. I asked the middle-eastern grocer in the same strip mall which of the two he preferred- and he said they are both good. He goes to Al Bawadi for special occasions and The Nile for everyday eats. I like each of them too. After being seated, my server brought a plate of pepperoncinis and some brightly color pickles which I later found out were pickled turnips. I went with the beef schawarma wrap and added a couple of falafels (only $0.30 each!) to complete my meal. The wrap and falafel each came out piping hot, and compared well to versions I've had elsewhere. The food is value-priced (easy to get out for less than $10 per person for lunch) and seems pretty authentic to me (the only european-american in sight). It's in the same strip mall with a number of middle-eastern businesses, including the freaking awesome Nut House, so I'm sure they are inclined to keep it real for the neighborhood residents. I would recommend it to anyone for a nice change of pace, especially if you're checking out the Nut House a few doors down. read more

Great shwaremas!!! It is as close to homemade as you're gonna get, if you're not a Middle Eastern. The only thing I didn't appreciate is their service. They were speaking about me in Arabic, which unfortunately I do understand even if I don't speak it very well. It was not a very complimentary statement either!!! Come here often with my family. I get their chicken Shawerma in pita or the wrap depending on what I want on that day. Their meat is flavorful and delicious, hummus and falafel ate always wonderful as well. Not impressed. Went to this location based on Yelp reviews and arrived at 630pm on a Sunday night to discover they close at 7p. They agreed to serve one more table but obviously the experience was less than ideal since we felt rushed. The server couldn't have been nicer - very pleasant and prompt. She was the only person in the place that actually cracked a smile. The food was decent. Started with baba ganoush which was very good. I don't understand how they get away of having different prices on the menu. The menu at the table has different prices that the TV monitors and what is online. Went for the first time with friends, despite having lived near the area of over a decade before moving. Absolutely delicious! Ordered a couple falafel, wrapped chicken schawarma. I am sensitive to spicy foods, and have noticed some falafel at other restaurants tends to be too spicy for me to handle. This falafel was excellent! Great flavor notes, not spicy at all, awesome crunch, ridiculous value... Chicken schawarma wrap came resembling somewhat of a burrito? Great filling, chicken was seasoned very well, packed with vegetables and meat. A white, almost cream like garlic sauce came for dipping. You could have smeared that on a flip flop and I would have eaten it! So Good! The best food coma I have ever had. Will probably stop by every time I visit my parents. I still have my togo from the place. My boyfriend always gets his hair cut next door to the Nile. Every time we even go near the Plaza the smell of delicious Kabab attacks my nose like the Smoke Monster from lost (in a good way). I didn't expect much when I randomly went in one day and used the bathroom. Out of guilt I decided to try some chicken. I was blown away. Unfortunately this place has gone down hill fast. I've been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years & the food always has been pretty good and the prices were decent. Today the service was absolutely really terrible and the food was mediocre. I had to sit myself down and wait over 10 minutes before a waitress came by and decided to bring us some bread and pickled turnips. The pickled turnips tasted off and I had to send it back. The hummus tasted off as well and also had to be sent back to the kitchen. I won't be coming back anymore and that makes me depressed. This has been my go to for years. This is one of the staples of the neighborhood growing up in this area. If you want more traditional middle eastern this is the place to go. I probably have been here over 100 times. I love their shawarma the best in Illinois. Because it's so busy always fresh. I hade the shawarma sandwich today in traditional pita stuffed with meat sauce tomatoes and onions. Used to eat here all the time (at least once a month) but the last experience was horrible. Bread was cold, rice had no flavor, meat and chicken was dry. The kafta was ok but very fatty. Jerusalem salad had too much tahini, it was like a soup. Staff disappeared so they can pray with a restaurant full of customers without notice. Waitress was not good. We waited over half an hour only to get our meals at room temperature, why wasn't it warm? Tables and seats were dirty. The entire family got sick from eating there. We come from Milwaukee to Bridgeview just for Arabic food. We've tried this place a couple of times. My husband loves Mensef, so he orders the same thing every time and enjoys it. I've ordered both the Chicken Shawarma, and the whole roast chicken (weekend special order only) in the past. The chicken shawarma was a bit dry and the fries lukewarm. Nothing to write home about. Their whole roasted/seasoned chicken was delicious though, as was the rice it came with. I recommend this place for the food for takeout, but not the service/dine-in for two reasons: the waitresses are inattentive, and the interior is dirty. I also don't enjoy flies buzzing all over while I'm trying to eat. read more
