We liked the location on the north end of town. Owners were friendly and helpful. We were able to walk a short distance to a great bakery for breakfast. We would return.

This was our second time visiting the North Face Lodge in Lake City, and we specifically returned to Lake City so that we could stay here. Our experience last year was well beyond expected. Hugh greeted us warmly, joined us on the large and beautiful deck with cold beverages and snacks, and we even enjoyed the fire pit as the evening cooled down. However, this year the deck was much less used due to the many Covid restrictions. But that didn't keep us from thoroughly enjoying our spacious & themed room, comfy bed, and wonderful shower (nothing like good water pressure to make ya happy!) This lodge will remain a go-to stop for us!

I loved this place. Clean rooms, awesome shower at the end of the day. Nice scenery. No complaints regarding North Face Lodge. However, the restaurants that were supposed to be open, were not. Luckily we had a grill at lodge, stopped at grocery store for staples and grilled the fish we just caught at San Cristobal. I will go back, definitely! Saw a moose too.

I needed a room over the 4th of July weekend (2016) and when I started calling around, it appeared that I was going to be out of luck. But when I called North Face Lodge, the friendly owner explained to me that they were indeed booked for the days I needed ... BUT she had an option for me. Seems they have just recently converted what used to be the office into a room named after Slumgullion Pass. She told me a little about the room and I immediately reserved it for the duration of my stay. She took great care to explain to me that it's not a conventional room. I didn't care. I travel solo for these business trips and I don't need a lot in the way of amenities. My primary concerns are a clean room and a comfortable bed. WiFi is also a necessity. This room certainly met all these requirements. The giant desk, spacious room, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven ... all that was just icing on the cake. Direct TV in the room was also a nice plus, especially for a four-night stay. The room is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple. Now let's talk about all the other "intangibles." The room has a patio door that opens onto a communal deck with plenty of seating - tables, benches, etc. The views from this deck are breathtaking. The owners have a big cooler on the deck with beverages for guests to choose from. This is certainly nice after a long day! The owners themselves are friendly and accommodating. All in all, I highly recommend the North Face Lodge and the Slumgullion room in particular.

The Texan We…read morerecently stayed at "the Texan" Cabin 34. July 1-9th 2026 in Lake City Colorado. There were a few positives, but they were outweighed by the condition of the cabin and the lack of basic amenities. Pros: * Beautiful view. * Close to town. * Excellent fishing nearby. Cons: The cabin is advertised as a four bedroom, but it is actually two bedrooms with a loft. That is misleading and should be corrected. The cabin was dirty, dusty, and bug infested when we arrived. Bathrooms were full of dead and alive bugs in the tub and shower area. There were bugs(dead and alive) and cobwebs throughout the cabin, which gave the impression it had not been properly cleaned before our stay. Nasty fly and bug traps throughout the house full of dead and alive bugs. All over the kitchen area. Unsanitary to say the least. Triggered Rat traps and sticky rodent traps in the kitchen. The beds were among the most uncomfortable we have experienced. One mattress had a deep valley worn into the middle, making it difficult to sleep. The others were extremely hard and offered little comfort. Kind of like sleeping on a concrete floor. There was no working internet during our entire stay. After speaking with the office, we were told the owners chose not to pay the resort's $27 network access fee and instead relied on Starlink, which had not been installed or was not operational. As a result, there was no internet and the televisions were unusable. Traveling with three children, having no TV or internet was a major inconvenience and not what we expected from a rental advertised with those amenities. The lighting throughout the cabin was very poor, making several areas feel dark even during the daylight hours. The heaters were also not operational, which added to our frustration. The temperature at night dropped into the 30s so heat would have been nice. No knobs on the heater units with broken elements. Downstairs toilet leaked the entire stay and a towel needed to be placed around the floor. You could hear the toilet dripping ALL night. The one bright spot was the management staff. They were courteous, professional, and did everything they could to help. It was clear they were aware of the recurring issues with this cabin and seemed genuinely frustrated by the situation. They deserve credit for trying to make the best of problems that were outside their control. We have stayed at this cabin resort area for years and have always had good experiences. Unfortunately, Texan Cabin 34 was a major disappointment. The owners' lack of maintenance and unwillingness to provide basic amenities turned what should have been an enjoyable vacation into a frustrating experience. We will continue visiting this area, but we will never rent this cabin again. The owners were notified by the resort manager and by us during our stay with absolutely no response. Avoid Cabin 34 at "the TEXAN" in Lake City Colorado. A full or partial refund would be appropriate but with the lack of communication or concerns from the owners it won't have us holding our breath.

When I inquired about soap the next morning I was THEN told they are just a sleeping cabin. Well that would have been good information to have before we checked in. The proprietor knew we were on cycles and should have insured we had what we needed. Lots of other places I'd check before staying here.

Keith is chatty and cool and just a great guy. I stayed in the old Airstream, which had a hot shower, kitchenette, and clean sheets - everything I needed! The resort is on the south end of town (so, a couple blocks away from downtown; Lake City is small and you can walk everywhere), quiet, wooded, and peaceful. The cabins seemed great - rustic but comfortable - but the Airstream had character all its own. It showed its age, but you can't beat the $$ in this pricey town. Also, a VCR and all the James Bond movies you could ask for. If you want to stay in a place that has character and feels like you're really hanging with the townsfolk, look no further!

My Jeep got a flat tire up on Cinnamon pass and the universe was seriously working against me. No spare, instant tire kit, two tow truck companies bailed, fix a flat didn't work, and cell service was out -- I almost called the cops for help. I will say, it was a great weekend and place to get stuck in the mountains for almost 2 days. On the 3rd trek back to town and sore as ever, our last resort was to eat the costs and just rent another Jeep to drive 2.5 hours to the next town -- which is how we found Pleasant View. Jim was so helpful and nice. We came in around 1pm and after going over options and costs we told him what we were dealing with. Jim said he didn't want to take advantage of our situation and gave us the extra half day at no cost, and rented us a 2-door wrangler (even after offering his personal jeep to go to town). And to take the next step further, he found an extra tire we could try on my Jeep (who does that??). The wheel didn't end up fitting and we still made the 2.5 hour drive racing against Memorial Day (only for all the tire shops to be closed and had to stay the night), but it couldn't have been possible without Jim's help. Oh and to top it off, we accidently left our brand new tent in the rented Jeep, we sent Jim a packing slip and he mailed it back! Had we had the opportunity to stay in town, we would've stayed in one of his cabins, but with his ability to go above and beyond for strangers -- he treats his business the same I would recommend anyone stay/rent here.
