Stopped by for two nights - amazing place to stay. Lake City is a wonderful spot, and the North Face Lodge was well located. We had the Angler themed room, themed all the way down to the silverware being shaped like a fish. Robin was very nice and helpful to us! Patio / outdoor area provided a relaxing and calm space after a day of hiking. Will definitely be back! read more

This was our second time visiting the North Face Lodge in Lake City, and we specifically returned to Lake City so that we could stay here. Our experience last year was well beyond expected. Hugh greeted us warmly, joined us on the large and beautiful deck with cold beverages and snacks, and we even enjoyed the fire pit as the evening cooled down. However, this year the deck was much less used due to the many Covid restrictions. But that didn't keep us from thoroughly enjoying our spacious & themed room, comfy bed, and wonderful shower (nothing like good water pressure to make ya happy!) I loved this place. Clean rooms, awesome shower at the end of the day. Nice scenery. No complaints regarding North Face Lodge. However, the restaurants that were supposed to be open, were not. Luckily we had a grill at lodge, stopped at grocery store for staples and grilled the fish we just caught at San Cristobal. I will go back, definitely! Saw a moose too. read more

We stayed for two nights in July 2022 in the Pinecone room. Robin the owner was very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. The view of the lodge from the outside is unimpressive however upon entering we found our room to be updated/decorated and spacious with a King bed, kitchenette, large walk-in shower, and single bed ottoman. Unfortunately it rained every afternoon and evening and weren't able to enjoy the outdoor porch outside our sliding glass door and mingling with other guest. The view from the room of Lake City and the mountains was gorgeous. We would highly recommend the North Face Lodge if you're visiting Lake City. read more

Cute little spot with cute themed rooms. Also very clean. The only drawback was both mattresses in our room were worn out with big sinkholes in the middle of them. That made it very difficult to get a good night's sleep - which should be the primary the purpose of a hotel bed! Then when I did get out of bed, I had a backache to boot. read more

I needed a room over the 4th of July weekend (2016) and when I started calling around, it appeared that I was going to be out of luck. But when I called North Face Lodge, the friendly owner explained to me that they were indeed booked for the days I needed ... BUT she had an option for me. Seems they have just recently converted what used to be the office into a room named after Slumgullion Pass. She told me a little about the room and I immediately reserved it for the duration of my stay. She took great care to explain to me that it's not a conventional room. I didn't care. I travel solo for these business trips and I don't need a lot in the way of amenities. My primary concerns are a clean room and a comfortable bed. WiFi is also a necessity. This room certainly met all these requirements. The giant desk, spacious room, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven ... all that was just icing on the cake. Direct TV in the room was also a nice plus, especially for a four-night stay. The room is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple. Now let's talk about all the other "intangibles." The room has a patio door that opens onto a communal deck with plenty of seating - tables, benches, etc. The views from this deck are breathtaking. The owners have a big cooler on the deck with beverages for guests to choose from. This is certainly nice after a long day! The owners themselves are friendly and accommodating. All in all, I highly recommend the North Face Lodge and the Slumgullion room in particular. read more

We really enjoyed our one night weeknight stay at North Face Lodge. Lake City is a perfect stopping point if you're looking to cut the drive time from Durango to Denver. We had never seen the property before. When we arrived I was a little apprehensive about it's close proximity to the highway and the traffic noise we might hear during the night. Our room was at the end, and the closest to the highway. It wasn't a problem, as soon as our sliding glass door closed, the traffic noise was no issue at all. We both slept sound. We enjoyed the deck, a lovely location to have a glass of wine before finding a spot for dinner. Fabulous scenery and a great place to relax. The room was very acceptable. Rustic and charming. Well cared for, spacious and comfortable. The room also had a well equipped kitchen. Next time we're in Lake City, we look forward to staying there again. read more

Most small, secluded places are the same. Not here! This was a great experience in an overnight stay. Hard to believe, but I find myself looking for an excuse to go back. These rooms have personality, style and practically every amenity you can think of. Then we met Robin. By her personality I knew who decorated the room. We had such an incredible time at The North Face Lodge. It was clean, comfortable, and the deck was our favorite part. There is a huge deck with gas fire pits that overlooks Lake City. This is a charming, quaint, lovely lodge. It has been recently remodeled and was done very nicely. The rooms are super comfy and Robin, one of the owners, is awesome. Super friendly and very accommodating. Very clean rooms with everything you might need. The large deck overlooks the river and the lodge is not far from town, as we walked into town to eat. Found this gem by doing a quick Google search a few years back and we make it a point to stay here year after year for our annual hiking trip. Liked the kitchenette amenity especially as we typically make a weekend out of our Lake City excursion and prefer to not eat out for every meal. The rooms have very comfortable beds (The Ute Trail room is my favorite!) though we have also stayed in the Uncorked and Antlers room and they were just as good. The new deck, which I think it was built in 2013, is an added bonus and a great place to hang out in the afternoon. Within walking distance of town and right on the main highway. As usual on this trip, we entered a town after a long day of driving and checked reviews and availability to find a place to stay. Colorado was in full tourist mode, and the North Face Lodge looked to be "different," and so we quickly booked a room there off the main deck with a great view (and sound) of the river flowing. I appreciated the complimentary drinks, the unique decorations and having a kitchenette so we didn't have to eat out all the time. As we were leaving I set my keys down and didn't realized I'd left them till hours later, and Hugh was kind enough to send them to me at home. No one there to great us upon arrival. Our room was left unlocked 3 of 4 days despite complaints to the owner (Robin)! Coffee pot left dirty, bed was not made, garbage was not removed. Same for all 3 rooms we booked for friends who will not rely on me to book a room again!! When I booked rooms 5 months early, I asked for best location for quiet rooms as we would be retiring early, but was given a room with loud mechanical equipment servicing motel and located next to guest entertainment area. Although the owner (Robin) acknowledged that equipment was loud and told us that a prior quest turned off the equipment, detrimental to other quests, we couldn't change our room on Labor Day weekend due to hotel being full. We were in Lake City to hike and got up at 3 a.m., however, quests were up late outside our room (guest gathering area) making much noise. We were very unhappy, as were our companions!! We love Lake City, however, we will not be returning to the North Face Lodge. read more

Overlooking the river in Lake City, with a view of snow capped mountains, this small hotel is obviously well cared for and decorated with style. The best thing is the deck with lovely views, pots of flowers, comfy furniture, and outdoor fireplaces. The kitchen is well equipped and everything seems brand new and clean. If you like peace and quite don't stay here. They have a deck that was very nice, if you where on it. Other wise there are benches and chairs out side on the deck by every room, and we could hear straight through the walls. People talking all night kept us up. And in the morning at 6:30 some company had brought there dirt bikes (10 or 15 of them) over to the lodge parking lot and turned them on and let them sit there for 30 minutes grumbling and being very loud, and management just let them do it. The bathroom and room where nice and the lady at the front desk was very helpful finding places to eat. Probably wouldn't stay here again. read more

Some people get it right. Robin and her husband have hit the mark with their new lodge. This can be called nothing other than a lodge because it certainly isn't a motel. Not only are the rooms unique and completely different from each other but the nice sheets and towels make it homey. The bed was new, fluffy and comfy. We don't watch TV on vacation, but for those that do there is a new flat screen TV. We loved the balcony with the views of Lake City. We rode our motorcycles from Ouray to Lake City. Spent the night at the North Face Lodge and returned the next day. It rained right as we pulled into Lake City. I can't explain the feeling of not only being warm and dry, but being in a place that felt like home. The shower was strong with endless hot water. The personalized service and love put into this lodge is apparent. We give it a solid 5 stars hope to stay again in the future. read more
