Staff was friendly when we checked out and returned the jeep, even told us when & where to see moose! The jeep was new and handled the terrain of the 4 wheel drive roads of the Alpine Loop great. We went up to Cinnamon Pass, Animas Forks, Silverton, Engineer Pass and back. read more

Absolutely love stay at Pleasant View Resort Cabins. Easy access to the activities of Lake City and the many beautiful mountain trails.

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would. I cannot explain how nice and just an all around good person Jim is. My Jeep got a flat tire up on Cinnamon pass and the universe was seriously working against me. No spare, instant tire kit, two tow truck companies bailed, fix a flat didn't work, and cell service was out -- I almost called the cops for help. I will say, it was a great weekend and place to get stuck in the mountains for almost 2 days. On the 3rd trek back to town and sore as ever, our last resort was to eat the costs and just rent another Jeep to drive 2.5 hours to the next town -- which is how we found Pleasant View. Jim was so helpful and nice. We came in around 1pm and after going over options and costs we told him what we were dealing with. Jim said he didn't want to take advantage of our situation and gave us the extra half day at no cost, and rented us a 2-door wrangler (even after offering his personal jeep to go to town). And to take the next step further, he found an extra tire we could try on my Jeep (who does that??). The wheel didn't end up fitting and we still made the 2.5 hour drive racing against Memorial Day (only for all the tire shops to be closed and had to stay the night), but it couldn't have been possible without Jim's help. Oh and to top it off, we accidently left our brand new tent in the rented Jeep, we sent Jim a packing slip and he mailed it back! Had we had the opportunity to stay in town, we would've stayed in one of his cabins, but with his ability to go above and beyond for strangers -- he treats his business the same I would recommend anyone stay/rent here. read more

We rented a Razor for the day and my husband was completely satisfied with every aspect of the service. My husband said it was he best service he has received - courteous, quick and well organized. My husband is a stickler for good service, and says we will rent from Pleasant View from now on. (We have rented from other businesses in town.) I am only giving 4 stars because we did not stay at the resort. We have home in Lake City and have been coming here for 20 years. The other reviews are disheartening, I hope that our experience has become the norm. read more

I would give it zero stars if I could. I rented a 2 seater SPORT UTV and got the Farmer John edition that circulated exhaust fumes SO BAD we had to take the windshield off to not die. Side note, they had the two sport models sitting outside when I got there but did not give me those...why? They don't offer insurance. I thought that was weird until they made me pay above retail for a new windshield and were refusing to let me take the one I apparently just bought. Unless you want to pay $1,100 for a day and a half rental on a trash machine, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Cannot NOT recommend this place any harder!!! Completely unethical and very abrasive and in your face kind of customer service. It's well worth the price to go literally anywhere else and get their insurance. read more

Jim and Nita could not have been more polite and courteous during our stay. They make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive until you leave. Our family felt right at home in our cabin and around the campfire. The cabin could not have been any cleaner. They take great pride in keeping this resort in top shape. We also decided to rent a jeep while we were there. Pleasant View Resort has everything you need! What a lovely city Lake City is. We cannot wait to come back again the end of the summer. read more

Stayed there in one of the cabins. They were clean and quiet. Everything was fine till the staff / owner was hanging out on the porch ten minutes after checkout and told me (hey were waiting to clean the cabin). I said ok were almost out two minutes later my girlfriend walks out the door and said good morning to the fella. He didn't respond, clearly not happy with his job or something. So my qualms are to early of a checkout and unfriendly staff. Not a cheap cabin stay as well. read more

Echoing the other reviews, this guy is terrible. My aunt knows the wife and the wife kindly rented us the jeep but did not provide any paper work and allowed me even to email my insurance card when I left mine in my car. She also didn't alert us to when the jeep was due back. So when I returned it at 5:45 (my aunt thought it was it was due back at 6:00), the owner really enjoyed being a dick even after I spent $250 for one day. Avoid this guy. He doesn't know service nor does he deserve your business. read more

Jim and Nita were wonderful to do business with. I will definitely rent a Jeep from them if I have the need. My friends and I were visiting Lake City to climb Uncompahgre Peak. The access to the trailhead requires navigating Nellie Creek--a fairly rough four-wheel drive "road." After scouting the road the afternoon before, we decided to rent a Jeep from Pleasant View rather than risk damaging our personal vehicle. Jim did a terrific job assuring me that the Jeep would get us to the trailhead without issues. He was spot-on. What really impressed us was Jim's customer focus. Because of our unusual circumstances, gear and logistics around the climb, Jim made it super easy for us to pick up the Jeep at the time that worked best for us. I have been coming to Lake City for 39 years. I love this place and learned to drive on the backcountry county roads around here. I have helped and taught other drivers get out I sticky situations without damaging their vehicle. I tell you this cause I rented a jeep from here ONLY because everyone else was sold out of 4 doors and I wanted to drive on cause I might buy one. Anyhow, I loved the Jeep and my family and I had a blast. However, the experience was ruined by the grumpy tyrant that runs this place. I feel bad for his wife because he is so rude. He was rude when I picked up the jeep and even more rude when I dropped it off. I could tell he didn't like me cause I wasn't over 65. I told him I was going to Ouray but he wasn't listening. I told him not to worry cause I was taking the milder trail. He turned to me and said that I must have it back by 5:00pm. I said ok and brushed it off as a bad day. However when I returned the Jeep an hour early (due to no traffic on the trails) he lectured me about speeding before I could even get out of the Jeep. Mind you there was not a single scratch on the vehicle just a lot of mud from the rainy dirt roads. Anyhow he made his point he does not want to rent to anyone under 65 and really shouldn't be in the business. He is the rudest man I have met in this beautiful town. He was even being rude to others waiting telling them to be patient when they weren't doing anything. DO NOT STAY OR RENT ANYTHING FROM HERE!!!!! read more

Jim and Nitta were both very friendly from the time we arrived to the time we left. We did have a brief disagreement prior to our arrival and Jim was very rude on the phone so I was really dreading the check in process but like I said they were both very friendly and welcoming from the beginning. They make sure you have everything you need and everything is as it should be. They seem to have everything very organized and neat and clean. Very accommodating. We were not aware that children under 18 had to wear helmets on the trails, as well as in town, and Jim let us borrow helmets for the kids for our whole group which saved us a ton of money and hassle trying to find so many helmets to purchase. Jim and Nitta visited with the children pretty often and even took all the children in our group, 8, on a hike one night to see 3 caves close by. The only things I would change is that a laundry facility there at the resort would be nice for guests to use and the wifi is pretty bad for those that would need to do any kind of work while there. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it. read more

The jeep was nice, however the behavior from the owner of this UNpleasantview resort was completely uncalled for. He made it very apparent that if you're not from around here and aren't in senior citizens category then he simply just wants to charge you more money and give you a hard time. Not to mention the 20+ minutes he took complaining about previous "kid renters" (keep in mind me and my partner are both 30yrs old and he couldn't help but let us know is displeasure with us "kids"), plus now we lost 20 minutes of what turned out to be very valuable time. Why is the time so valuable when you've paid to have it all day?? Because they charge $1 every minute you are late (and they don't warn you of this before you leave and they don't provide copy of your contract so be sure to be aware of this). Following his STRICT timeline and his BAD map, we still weren't able to return in time thus giving him opportunity to charge us 30% extra... Also, we went on a busy weekend and it took over 30 minutes to find a bathroom and gas station in Lake City (Pleasantview recommended leaving 15 minutes for this). Only rent from here if you are ok with being belittled and spoken down to, and if you are able to follow the strict timeline. Also, thier alpine loop map is HORRIBLE. No topography and it doesn't even have all the roads on it, so it's very easy to take a wrong turn once your up high on the loop, and it's not even to scale so it's really not worthy of being called a map (I've seen make believe treasure maps done by 4 year olds make more sense than Jim's piece of crap "map"). Last complaint is that they expect you to clean the rental upon return; that's right, pay over $200 to rent a jeep for the day and you're still expected to clean it. Save yourself the insults and avoid UNpleasantview all together. The owner's wife seemed nice though; I wish we had the chance to get/leave a better impression with her. end rant. read more
