First off, this is my first 1-star review. I'm sorry, but I did not enjoy my time here at Porterhouse. I came by for the first time on Tuesday, Jan 14th for a late dinner at 8:16 PM. I got the House Salad €14 - I did not like this. Presentation, it looks beautiful, but taste-wise, no. It was salty but bland at the same time. I think they just used salt to season. There was no particular seasoning, no tangy, no tasty salad dressing to make the salad less.. leafy lol. If anything, I think they just used a mild oil (like olive oil). I did not finish this. - Sprite - So sad that the Sprite was a Sprite Zero (€3.50). I chugged this just to finish but I do not enjoy Sprite zeros. My coworker got the Beef Stew (€20.50), but the beef stew tasted like any other that he had. The pieces of beef, although is 'slow cooked', was also tough/dry. He did not finish his dish either. Customer Service: Nonexistent. It took a little bit of time for them to get us seated, which was fine. However, it took even longer to get the menu and our order rung up. Then, it took forever for the food to come. There really wasn't much servicing at all, and the server at the end asked for a tip. My coworker still left a generous 20% tip, but I did not believe the service warranted that at all. No, no no. I would not come back. The bar vibes are decent, and I'm sure with the live music - it would have been a better experience. But no, I did not leave very happy. I would probably recommend that you check out another bar nearby.
I stopped by here for a late lunch. I liked the location of this pub close to the water. It also had a nice atmosphere with a lot of people relaxing and enjoying some lunch or drinks. It was t too frenetic. The service was good and the quality of the food was also decent. Prices were reasonable enough for Dublin (which already tends to be more expensive than other comparable cities). The fish and chips was especially good.
Pleasantly surprised! The vegan burger and the vegan chili cheese fries were bomb! Such a hit for me. I wasn't sure what to expect to be honest. But I loved both! Great vegan food. 10/10 My husband got the habanero blue cheese burger and he enjoyed it. He said he liked the habanero flavor a lot. He wished there was more blue cheese flavor, but it was a decent burger. The fries are decent too! 10/10 We have good service here. Our server was very friendly. The ambiance is casual, pub like, and laid back. 10/10 Great spot for drinks and food!
Stopped in for dinner based on Yelp scores, while trying to escape nonstop rain. We never know what we're going to get since there are 100's of pubs/restaurants available in Temple Bar area and often the food can be mediocre. We were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a porterhouse burger w/sweet potato fries and my husband ordered the bangers and mash. My burger was absolutely delicious! I'm not a burger eater and thus not a connoisseur but I know a good burger when I taste one and it was good to the last drop! It was cooked perfectly, not too well done or showed signs of life. It was tasty and topped with their sauce, red onion, lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, and garlic mayo. It wasn't sloppy or greasy and the toppings were all a nice touch. My husband says his sausage was also delicious and the best he'd had in Dublin. We had a great wait staff who were very friendly and attentive. I'd definitely eat there again the next time we're in Dublin.

The best Irish stew I've had since stepping off the plane in Dublin! Hubs also loved his bangers n mash. Garlic cheese bread wasn't half bad either. Prices were a tad high at 20€ a pop. But not so high I wouldn't return. Didn't like how they asked for a tip tho; That always makes for an awkward card swipe. Live music 7 days a week. Kitchen closes at 21:30.

We had to go to the third level and wait for a waitress to seat us, although on the bottom two levels, it was self-seating. There's a wide range of alcoholic beverages available. The bangers and mash were quite tasty, although the steak sandwich was a bit underseasoned. Toilets are available on the top level. Credit cards accepted.
Our fourth pub of our first Dublin/Irish vacation found us stopping at The Porterhouse Temple Bar, which I enjoyed a lot. One of three locations across the Atlantic between New York and London, The Porterhouse offers not only great drinks, music, and vibes, but also their own craft beer -- the latter point was a major surprise, as I didn't expect that many pubs or places brewing their own beer outside of Guinness and the major brewers. For my money, their oyster stout was quite class, with roasty smoothness that was quite well balanced. A good beer to have, and only 4.6% ABV, so it saved me from getting too much of a buzz to where I may have started doing silly things. But I digress. The beer I chose was also good for pub food I ordered like the ham and cheese croquettes, which were quite yummy and satisfying with an aioli dip. We chilled there for a bit as we enjoyed our drinks, listened to the music blaring, and taking in the ambiance. The Porterhouse is a good stop to make when you have a craving for food while you're drinking, and be close to all the other pubs in Temple Bar.
Stopped in for a snack and a couple beers. Got the brunch cococrunch French toast which was amazing! Had caramelized bananas, cream and coated with coco crunches! Prices are predictably expensive. The inside was a charming wooden Irish pub complete with old ads and pictures. The service is the only thing that held this review back from a 5. Asked for some ice for my daughter after she hurt her nose and never brought it. Was also one of the first seated but last served. Great overall experience though. read more

This was our first dinner during our trip to Ireland, which we just popped in and found seating for. It's got multiple floors, live music, and was pretty busy on a Sunday night. Their specials were written on a chalkboard near the stairs. It was incredibly lively and our server moved quick. I ordered the beef & porterhouse plain porter stew, which was pretty good! It was hot, flavorful, and the portion was generous. Some pieces of the beef were tough, but not so much that it's worth a complaint. My friends enjoyed their fish & chips, as well as the cottage pie (special), which I think was the winner between all our meals. read more

This microbrewery is in the Temple Bar district. We visited here twice with a Dublin native, who plays traditional Celtic music. He told us this was one of his favorite pubs, as they had very reasonable prices (5.6 euros for a pint), live music, and a great selection of their own microbrews. He says a pint of their plain stout is better than a Guinness. A note of caution: don't expect a pint of Guinness here, they only have their own marvelous suds plus a large selection of liquor and wine. Both nights we came, we watched some very good cover bands. The bands play on the second floor, on an overhang. If you don't like it loud, I'd suggest visiting the first or third floor. Jimmy Coup, the one man singer/guitarist, who looked like Sam Elliott, on our first night, was much better than the three man band we saw on our second night. He joked and played almost all the song requests I yelled out. He said he couldn't play any Van Halen, because "I am just a strummer". The second night band had a very serious vibe and didn't take any of my requests. All the microbrews I tried here were true to style and delicious. All of the bartenders were eager to please and offered fast service. My two favorites were the Nitro Red Irish ale, and the Temple lager. These are both 4.2 abv (so you drink more than a few) and nicely carbonated (especially the red). Unfortunately I didn't try the stout, but I will next time. If you like good cover bands and quality, inexpensive micro brewed beer, visit this fun, vibrant pub. read more

This was one of our favorite meals in Dublin! After a whole day of excursions, we were exhausted and just wanted burgers, fries, and beer to replenish our energy. We didn't have to wait too long to get seated since the restaurant is multi-story. There was also live music playing which was really nice. The whole ambiance was awesome! I love the walls decorated with different types of beer. In addition to burgers and fries, which were solid choices, we got the oysters paired with an oyster stout and seafood chowder. To our surprise the seafood here is amazing and fresh! The oysters is one of the best we've had in a while. It comes with this pink sauce that really enhances the flavors. I also loved the chowder which was perfect for a cold winter night. Overall, I would definitely dine here again! I heard they have other locations around the world. read more
My friends wanted to check out the Temple Bar, but I think we went to the wrong one LOL. A lot of pubs in Dublin seem to have Temple Bar in their name, so it was a bit confusing. We came here before dinner time, so the bar was kind of empty. I can't believe how big it is though! It's three stories and live entertainment begins after 5pm. I could here some Irish music playing around that time, but when I went downstairs to look for the restroom, it looked like regular customers were just playing their instruments and singing along, which was still pretty cool. For food, we shared the mussels, sweet potato fries, prawns, and seafood chowder. I also tried their strawberry beer and it was actually pretty good! The sweet potato fries were soggy, so I didn't enjoy that very much. The mussels were so good that we ordered another one! The prawns were more like shrimp, but had a nice sauce to accompany it. The seafood chowder had an adequate amount of seafood, so nothing to complain about. Since we sat upstairs, we had a nice pretty nice view of the area. There were a lot of beers from around the world in glass cases behind our table for decor. When it got busy, it was hard to locate our server, but she did come to check up on us once in a while. read more
Great spot for some live music, great food and drinks, but the service is super slow. I waited at least 15 minutes where it said to wait to be seated and no one ever came over. I finally found a waitress and asked how to get a table and she just sat me at one she was clearing, but she seemed annoyed that I asked. Normally, I would have left after that, but there was a decent live band playing and I was starving. I'm glad we stayed. I got the sirloin steak, which was tender as full of flavor. My husband got the burger, which had a nice pillowy bun and he said his meat was also flavorful. The cheese was also a little sparse, but tasted great. They also brew their own beer, which we didn't get to try, but it is definitely a great place to check out if you are in the mood for great food, drinks and are ok with waiting a bit for a table. read more

Now it's hard for me to believe that Dublin was ever a "beer desert" as their website says, but they claim pub breweries didn't exist before 1996 when the owners opened this multi-floor tavern in the Temple Bar district. Guess they all just drank Guinness before that, which is not such a bad thing, mate. Anyhow, Jamie W. was having a major hankering for corned beef and cabbage for lunch, and I thought it would surely be on every pub menu in the neighborhood. But nope, not at all. Then it dawned on me that corned beef and cabbage is like chop suey, probably an Americanized version of something that came from its native land. Sure enough, we perused the menu here and saw Bacon & Cabbage for €13. Faith and begorrah, what be that with mash potato and parsley sauce (photo: http://bit.ly/2eaOduA)? It be delicious, that's what it be. The bacon was a thick tender slab with the texture of good corned beef but hiding beneath a thick creamy sauce sprinkled with parsley. I wish I ordered it, but I decided to try the same-price Slow Roast Pork Belly, which consisted of four thick slices over a bed of puy lentils mixed with cuts of bacon swimming in a watery pork gravy (photo: http://bit.ly/2eaPEsX). Given the pork was almost pure gristle, it wasn't quite as satisfying as I was hoping. To offset our consciences, we also had the €5 Side Salad, a standard plate of mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion, all of it drowning in a tasty fire-roasted red pepper vinaigrette (photo: http://bit.ly/2eRzmXj). And yet, since I only had lentils as my side, I couldn't help myself and ordered a €3.50 side of Mashed Potatoes, which was a heaping pile of creamy goodness which appeared pre-rinsed with butter (photo: http://bit.ly/2dIv1IA). We were both surprised at how good and fresh the quality was for the traditional Irish fare served here given the pub setting. I'd definitely say the Porterhouse is worthy of consideration for anyone strolling through this heavily tourist-infested area. FOOD - 4 stars...ah, it is possible to eat good Irish food in a pub AMBIANCE - 4 stars...quite spacious on several floors in the most crowded area of town SERVICE - 3 stars...typical TGIF-level service TOTAL - 4 stars...bacon & cabbage needs to get introduced stateside read more

Multiple floor bar that has that college party feel. Our visit included performances by a live band and multiple rounds of drinks. I didn't think the prices were anything special, which was confirmed later in my trip. However, the list of beer options was extremely extensive. Like most bars I ventured in the Temple Bar area, it got crowded. Crowded doesn't mean no fun, but it does mean getting around can take a whole lot longer, especially if you ended up on the top floor. Overall, The Porterhouse is worth a stop if you are in for a visit. read more
OK. This is the place for a pint. No doubt. The food on the other hand is nothing spectacular. I went for their Irish Stew.. figure this is Ireland, this place must have out of the world Irish Stew... Nope.. wrong.. I get watery soup with morsels of lamb.. But wait.. its Irish Stew.. it should be hearty and give you a heart attack at the end... Nah... its just watery soup.. At least their beer isn;t watered down.. so, stick with the liquid dinner.. forget the Irish Stew.. read more
One of the challenges of being a tourist in an unknown city is not really knowing where to go. Everyone was saying to go check out Temple Bar, but where exactly were we supposed to go in Temple Bar? It's a whole area, not just one business. And the warnings that it's really touristic were a bit of a deterrent, but then again, we WERE tourists, so we wandered around and wah-la! Found ourselves at The Porterhouse Temple Bar. I actually found it quite charming, and we were there in the afternoon, so it was a pleasant stop for lunch. Of course I had to try the Irish Stew with Porterhouse Beer Grain Bread, and it was quite delicious with Temple Brau lager. My friend ordered the breaded scampi and a pie with mash and was quite pleased with her selection, too. The decor was really nice and homey with a giant Irish flag hanging over the bar, but what really amazed my friend the most was the wall of craft beer bottles from all over the world. She was really excited to find lots of beers from Oregon, where she's from. read more
This is a super busy 3 floor bar/pub with live music after 8pm. We had drinks here and listened to the band (a 3 man band who played traditional irish music and some other songs) we sat right in front of them and had the best seat in the house. The drinks were so freaking good, I had an illusion cocktail.. never did find out what the illusion was but it was so darn good I wish I knew what it was so I could have it in the states too. The food - all we had were some appetizers. Nachos and fries.. the usual bar food.. good tasting. The service- left alot to be desired but it was obvious they were swamped. Our server was extremely nice, just too busy with the evergrowing crowd. read more

NO SERVICE MEANS ONE CRAPPY STAR for this lovely looking establishment! And all because of one lying lazy deplorable and wretched poor excuse for a waitress called Sara. Or Sarah, or however she pathetically spells it. Now, upon entering (May 3rd, 2017), I totally love the set up of this classic looking brewery! The decor everywhere was interesting, and the types of brews they offer were simply fantastic! I enjoyed the Oyster Stout best! That is, when I actually had the opportunity to drink one. So, there are three levels with stairs leading to a bar on each level. And with this grand appearance, I thought why not spend my last night in Dublin with coworkers here? To me, it was just fun going up and down with beer in hand to each level. But sadly, I am saddened to report that the fun came to a crashing end with an "I HATE MY JOB" attitude waitress. Shame on the manager for not stepping up on this one too. So, a few of us came here after work to enjoy a few pints and we just wanted to unwind after a tough week. We convened on the first level awaiting for others, and for the second level bar to open up. Well, Sara pulled the sign away opening up the second level bar. Fantastic, more room! It's not like we rushed the place, but she looked at us with an "Oh great, I have to actually do work" look on her face. I politely asked if the third level table with the brass vat as a table was open. It had a great view that overlooked the street. She looked up at it and said (without a smile), "Yeah sure, go ahead, I'll be up there to take your order." Cool, we only intended on having a few drinks and share some appetizers. Well, minutes passed, more folks started filling up the other tables. No menus, no acknowledgement, just Sara walking the tables pretending like she's cleaning them up. Not any eye-contact at all! A good thirty to forty minutes of waiting, we got fed up and went to the bar on the second level and luckily the manager was tending it. We ordered more drinks and he said he'll have someone help us. We pretty much had to get our own beers while she was just standing at the end of the bar. Then came by and said "I'll be right up". In which she never went back up to help us at all, BIG LIAR! She did however go from table to table with an attitude taking other table orders. Not to mention, even the patrons had the look of "Where the hell is our waitress? Where is our food?" She served other tables, but took her sweet hateful time at everything. We were still hungry, but we never complained. We just chilled with our self-served beers and enjoyed the night. It was pretty much at the point of ...Damn, that woman smelled like drama and a headache, so lets just stay away from it. Note to Sara: If you hate your job, THEN QUIT! AND DON'T ACT LIKE YOU ARSE DON'T STINK BECAUSE IT DOES! I rarely give one star reviews, but all it took was one snotty wayward waitress for me to do it! Cheers! read more
