In the his chair not only was I treated like a long term client, but as a family. The professionalism as well as his open demeanor made the experience one to remember! Taking care of a clean cut and close shave, getting me ready for the events to follow that Saturday evening. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a barber with substance! It's not easy finding a good barber nowadays and I just got lucky with Zack! He does amazing work! My visit to Matt's was on a recommendation from a friend. We were discussing beard trims and the difficulty of finding someone who won't screw up months/years of 'growing' in a matter of minutes. Well, I'm glad I took his recommendation. The parking lot is small and shared by several businesses in the complex. It's a quirky place. Dark and cramped. Sort of like a hip-grandfather-hoarder's-man-cave. Hundreds of VHS/DVDs line every inch of the waiting areas. There's a single person room (closet?) with video games playing. You sign in on the yellow legal pad that sits atop the red metal Coke refrigerator. Don't go if you're in a rush. There was someone in the chair when I arrived. I waited 25 minutes. As the minutes ticked by I grew impatient and thought about leaving, but the longer I waited, the more I relaxed into the atmosphere. So glad I waited! I went for the beard trim, but had a haircut too. First, he LISTENED to me. Many barbers don't. Second, he did what I asked and made suggestions for other options. The cut was no big deal. #2 clipper all over. The beard trim WAS a big deal. He took time to tame and shape my beard (scissors, clipper, comb and brush) which was out of control. Finished up with a hot lather neck shave and brief scalp massage. All for $15. The only negative was the 'stache trim. I'm too particular. I shouldn't have said 'yes' to it. Ah, it'll grow out again. Take cash. They don't accept plastic. But GO! Good cut, great trim. I'll try a shave next time. read more

I have been looking for a barber for some time now. The super cuts of the world were so impersonal and inconsistent. Finally found this place on Yelp. Couldn't be happier. Matt seemed genuinely interested in keeping a conversation going as he worked on my hair. Will definitely be back. Loved the hot towel on the neck and the machine massage at the end. Great experience... There was a little bit of a wait, but lots of guy reading material (I picked up a Michael Jordan Newsweek special). The free popcorn was a nice touch while I waited. read more

So I found this establishment from yelp and saw all of the positive reviews. Every single one was right. It has the old school barber feel where you are getting your hair cut by someone who cares not by someone grinding out as many people as possible. Great ambiance and the service was superb. Add on top of that the owner has a great personality and actually talks to you, like a person that actually cares. I went in for a beard trim and being kinda picky I was defiantly impressed with his knowledge and the answers he presented to my questions. This guy is hands down the best. In such a stimulating and timeless environment I don't mind waiting 20 minutes to an hour for a hair cut. Matt knows exactly what he's doing, and I'm one of those jerks says I want a hair cut that doesn't look like I got a hair cut. So far I have been 100% satisfied with the quality of my haircuts and services from him. Haven't gotten a full shave, but his warm shave butter and old-time massager feels great on the back of my neck. Went to check this place out for a beard trim. If you dont pay attention you'll pass right by like i did lol. Walked in and got smacked in the face with all the crazy stuff on the walls, ceiling and anywhere else the could nail it down. Totally cool! The latest Star Wars movie playing on the one of the tv's, even better. Dante greeted me and asked if i was ready and what i was in for. 3 chairs in this joint , sat down and got started on taming the Man Mane. Dante took his time on trimming my face fuzz. He didnt dive right and screw it all up like most places would. After all was said and done, turned out great. Then came the neck massage with a old 50's era massager. Fantastic. So good the guy in the other chair was damn near asleep during his massage. I will be going back when its time for the noggin to get all done up. Thanks again for a great beard trim. read more

So.... as I write this I am literally outside of the shop. It is 1055a. Doors are not open and its a cool, brisk 105+ degrees outside... in the shade. I'm put into weird place to be in when you are sweating your butt off outside waiting for a good haircut and the barber hasnt shown up yet. You call to the second location and they cant help you either. Well im sure they can if you drive down the street and see their present and availabe barbers. But to locate your barber for this location, no help. Funny thing is the other patrons that are out here with me sweating and frustrated tell me that this happens often. So in my head im thinking. Wait and hope for the barber to show up, if he shows up. Then wait again inside of this unique and awesomely decorated place. Try to cool off. Sit in the chair for a good hair cut. Pay and leave. Or just leave. Not come back. And find a new barber were they typically will show up on time. Wait for a hair cut and leave not sweating and suffering outside waiting for heat stroke. I was in town for a wedding, actually my wedding and I had not had a chance to get a haircut from my barber in Washington DC. So I took a chance and was impressed with the reviews for the Parlour on YELP and I decided to get my haircut for my wedding here. I have to say I was impressed, I needed a cut that was more than a trim but not a buzz cut and the owner did a excellent job. The owner made this place a total man cave, the only complaint I might have was between the two TVs going with action movies, it was but overwhelming and loud, but otherwise, I had a solid haircut for decent price. He checked in with me after the initial cutting and asked me if I like the length, and he also offered various different aftershaves, very nice touch. I checked out Matt's barber shop back in january due to its close proximity to my house and it only took that one sitting for me to decide that this would be the only place that I visit. As I am in the military, I have relied on Matt just about every other week and his cut has always impressed. Matt is incredibly proficient and personable, the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, and the prices are excellent ( low to be honest when you factor in the quality of service and consistency). Matt's hours cater to the business professional and is always accommodating with any of my time fluctuations. I flew in early, just to get a shave and a cut. I was not disappointed. You enter and sign-in and are offered a drink from the cooler, popcorn from the popper and candy whilst you wait. There are movies playing which light the room. Whilst I waited, I saw several men come in and leave due to the wait. Matthew's services are in high demand. Once I was called, I proceeded to the back room where the single chair sits. I was greeted as though I'd been a customer for years. I explained what I wanted and the cut began. Following my haircut, I got an amazing wet shave. $17 for the cut. $25 for a shave. Cash only. Money more than well spent. To the time and indulge yourself. Matthew's passion for his craft is undeniable and his service is second to none. Can't recommend the experience highly enough. read more

I unfortunately, had a very poor experience with this parlor to the point that I didn't even get a haircut. When I initially walked in I was greeted warmly by the barber (I'm assuming Matt?) who said it would likely be a 45 minute wait as he was half way cutting someone's hair, and still had 2 other people waiting in line. He apologized initially and said he was the only one in today. I initially left, but came back 5 minutes later. I asked 15 minutes after he finished the initial customer (with two still waiting), how long, he responded likely 45 minutes. Low and behold 2 hours later, he just started on the second person in line. I understand that it's first come first serve, what made this unacceptable was the fact that he was granting an interview with an agency taking photos for him, and simultaneously making the wait longer for his customers. Lastly, a female colleague walked in (I'm assuming Mary?), I initially assumed she was just a friend, as they spent 15 minutes talking to each other. However, after 20 minutes, he waved to her as I was the only one left and asked if I wanted a haircut, she said that she was also a barber. I asked given the delay, and knowing the fact that there was only 1 barber, why she would take so long in offering to cut my hair. At that point I walked out. I understand the inherent wait at a barber shop and the first come first serve policy, but what really irritated me to write a review of this was the lack of decency and professionalism for waiting customers. There's no point in delaying customers longer to field some video session, and it's definitely unacceptable to have a fellow barber wait at least 20 minutes when casually bantering, and then offering to cut your hair, when it's already been a long wait. To make matters worse he was fielding calls without letting them know the wait time. I quite frankly don't care how good of a barber you are, how many positive reviews from people you have, if you are unable to provide basic courtesy to your customers (especially new ones, not your regulars), then you aren't worth going to see. Secondly, I understand the issues with small businesses and everyone trying to find a way to make it, but don't field more customers than you can handle. For all customers that still plan on going here, please speak up and let them know if this happens to you as it's unacceptable. read more

Fantastic place. Best overall experience I've ever had at a barber shop. Just moved here from Chicago and was concerned I'd be stuck going to chain every 6 weeks but with the help of yelp I found this little diamond in the rough. Though he only has one chair, I never mind waiting because there's plenty to do. Movies, popcorn, refreshments, and great literature are offered but most importantly the waiting area features comfortable chairs. Also, I notice something new and interesting in the decor every time I visit. My haircuts and shaves from Matthew have been great. I'm sure he has a lot of success coming his way. read more

My old barber retired, so I was looking for a new barber near downtown. I was impressed by all of the positive reviews for Matthew and the Barber Parlor, so I gave them a try. The positive reviews are well deserved. The price is about the same as the big chains like Sport Clips and Great Clips, but he is much friendlier, and spends quite a bit more time working on your hair, and it shows in the final result. The only warnings I would give is that the parking behind the building is tricky to figure out your first time you visit, and he does not take credit cards. I will be going back. read more
