Amazing breakfast at the Olive branch yesterday. This is our second time having breakfast. If it is very busy it can be a long wait but yesterday our timing was perfect, no wait and a table opened as we arrived. We had the power bowl with eggs and veggies, shaved Brussel sprouts and grilled potatoes and it was amazing! What a surprise of flavor and goodness! We had the biscuits and gravy with eggs and that was awesome too, and one of us had the extremely large croissant with eggs cheese and bacon and we all thought our meal was best! Went here for the first time yesterday and I think this is the perfect place for brunch. For the prices, the portions were rather big so you really do get what you pay for! Walking in I felt like I was entering a Fellowship hall. To be fair the entire city felt like one big baptist convention. The room is huge and filled with church room chairs. It could be cute, but is just shy of that. I ordered the southwest wrap, a vegetarian wrap with eggs, peppers and carmelized onions with salsa on the side. It was watery and not particularly flavorful. It got the job done as far as filling me. My mother got the kids breakfast, which consisted of a singular pancake, bacon and one egg. It was the perfect size for her after fruit for breakfast. She thought the pancake tasted like lemon, but I thought it was just kind of a dry pancake. The best part about this place is the coffee. They had four different that they brew themselves and two of them are amazing. I tried the 254 and the house blend. One tasted like chocolate and the other was nutty and flavorful. This isn't a spot that you'll be dying to eat at, but it's a budget friendly restaurant....especially if you're going out to eat with your family and just had an expensive dinner the night before at Diamondbacks. Breakfast potatoes were too salty and pesto sandwich is huge. Enough for two people in my opinion. They were heavy handed on the pesto mayo creamy sauce and didn't like that too much...request that on the side. It's seat yourself which is okay but, all the tables were dirty when we got there. Waited for a clean one but, never happened. We sat at a table and figured we would wait for someone to clean it. A girl came by and let us know our waiter was busy and he would be with us. Funny how she didn't bother to help him out. Finally, my wife got up and went to the counter to ask for something to wipe off the table with. The lady up there indicated that we were at fault for sitting at a dirty table. Went to get a cup of coffee to-go and ended up having to stay half an hour and being over-charged without us noticing. They didn't have a barista (it's a café...?) and had the manager making coffee instead. The cashier charged me $5 for a coffee advertised as $2.37, my friend ordered a latte and got charged $7. Honestly ridiculous. Watching the waiters and waitresses bring out food looked so chaotic as well - but can't really speak to that since we only got coffee. read more

3.5. A decent place for college students and their parents to get breakfast. Bacon was excellent, thick and delicious. Barista guy was very skilled. As noted in a previous review, the croissant was atypically heavy and bready. Upon closer inspection, it has all the layered construction one would expect from a croissant, except that this one is designed to survive the apocalypse it is so dense and heavy. It's as if a croissant was made by Germans instead of by the French. I actually liked it (it's a "battle croissant"), but it can disappoint expectations. Scrambled eggs were passable. French toast got rave reviews. Avocado toast was a bit disappointing (noted in a previous review but I ordered it anyway - don't be me!). Dining area is large. Mostly table service, unless you want drip coffee; you have to go fetch that yourself; use mister barista man instead. Bathroom was just fine. read more

The Olive Branch is a gem of Waco. It is a seat yourself breakfast/brunch/lunch spot that is sure to please. The most noticeable thing is the prices. They are extremely fair, and the portions are fantastic! Rarely do you dine for under $10 a plate and it's cooked to order. These eggs certainly are not from a bag! Weekends they only do scrambled eggs because feeding a 100 person restaurant would be insane if they allowed for all sorts of different styles. Monday through Friday however you can order eggs cooked the way you like! On the weekends be prepared for a wait. It's first come first serve, and it's up to you to find a table as people stand up to leave. No reservations, but they have special seating for groups of 6+ which is also first come first serve. They also have Mimosas, white, and red wine all from a local importer in town of natural wine. The wines are sourced from Europe and brought specifically to Texas by Mayfield Selections. Pretty rare to keep that kind of business local anymore nowadays!! The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. My suggestion is to not treat this establishment as a fast food joint and expect food to be nuked and served fast. Come expecting a restaurant style experience, and give yourself time. Don't tie down a restaurant to your tight schedule to return to the silos or your conference. If that is the case then call ahead and order to go! Food generally takes 15 minutes once the order is in, but can take 30 minutes if there is a full restaurant. My personal favorites (yes I have more than one) are the American Wrap, BYO Hash (kinda a kitchen sink meal), and the breakfast croissant. For lunch I recommend the loaded baked potato, penne pesto, or the Chicken Pesto sandwich. They allow you to have a half sandwich of anything and a soup or small side salad with it. Every time you'll get more food than one really needs, but I would rather have too much food than not enough!! Oh... and I forgot to mention the most important part: THEY SERVE BREAKFAST ALL DAY! Granted they close at 3, but breakfast at 2pm is hard to find anywhere else in Waco period, let alone find *good* (good being the operative word) breakfast for inexpensive! They also do catering for large events, weddings, and cakes for weddings or your special event!! Those who have rated this restaurant poorly have missed the boat. I would guess they were either in a rush, or expected it to be a Michelin Star breakfast for under $10 HA! I challenge anyone to find a better breakfast for the money! *BOTTOM LINE*: Hands down best breakfast in Waco. Enjoy your meal with a mimosa, and don't break the bank. read more

I typed breakfast in the search bar on the yelp app and found this place as one of the options. Service was blan. Our waitress was acting like we have been here before. She never explained anything and assumed we knew what came with what. I ordered coffee and she handed me a cup. I assumed by the many coffee machines on the wall that i was supposed to get it my self. I ordered stuffed French toast with eggs and sausage. The French toast was different. It was baked in a large dish and cut out and served like a cobbler. The crust was extremely flaky and dry top and bottom. The coconut creme center was good. I think they should stick to the original French toast. Overall, I have truly had a better experience at IHOP than this place. Looking for a simple breakfast or lunch then try it out. I had the French onion soup and a half order of the Southwest Salad! It tasted great, especially coming from the few selection of bistro style restaurants in Waco. The service for the three times I have come here has always been great, I'm not expecting them to wait on me every five minutes though either. I love this little place in Waco. It's also conveniently adjacent to Spice Village, another sweet addition to what Waco has to offer. ************************ EDIT: Management is very poor. I mistakenly ordered a "Half-Order, Sante Fe Salad" this afternoon and the waitress mistook what I meant for the only Sante Fe item on the menu, a sandwich. When I addressed and realized the mistake, the food reaching our table, the waitress looked pissed off. She took back my plate of food, then came back with a menu as if to correct my mistake by pointing out the obvious fact that there was no Sante Fe salad. I realized that I meant to say SOUTHWEST salad. Dyslexia impairs my ability to read a menu. If anything, the waitress could not have been so careless when taking my order. She should have pointed out that there was no Sante Fe salad. I'm not a perfect customer. She could have helped me out instead of just rushing around. She's not the main problem here however. The manager would not take the sandwich off. Apparently this happened to another person earlier today, and there must be a zero tolerance for a wrong order taken. If anything the waiters here could have been more careful and attentive. After asking the waitress if she could talk to the manager again, and explaining that I did originally say salad although it was incorrect, I saw her struggling to compromise with this altercation. At this point I'm in disbelief at how poorly they were handling this situation. I walked up to the counter where I saw them discussing the problem, and told them not to worry as I would pay for the sandwich. Just please add the southwest salad to my order so I can eat what I came here for. The French onion soup still tasted the same by the way. At least they don't really mess up the food. Just the order. I LITERALLY LEFT A 5 STAR REVIEW TWO DAYS AGO SEEING HOW MANY PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT HERE. I understand now. I don't know how much money they actually would lose over the one sandwich that was ordered, but it's going to be worth a lot more from the two customers they lost that ate here often. Pros: 1. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. 2. The atmosphere was great! It's a cute little place with a home-y feel. Cons: 1. I ordered the avocado "toast" and it was mediocre at best. It wasn't actually toasted at all! It was simply 2 slices of bread with avocado slices on the side. 2. The menu is confusing because below the avocado toast it mentions you can add eggs and fruit but it seems as though the whole meal is $5.50 when in reality, the eggs and fruit is an ADDITIONAL $5.50 and you it's not clear until you get the bill. Total ripoff! 3. The eggs were cold. 4. We had a party of 8 and 2 of our guests got their food almost 10 minutes after the first plate was brought out. So we had 2 people waiting for their food for a longer period of time than it should have been. 5. They don't allow you to order your eggs any way other than scrambled. The croissant sandwich that I ordered was just funky overall. The croissant seemed old and tasted on the sour side. I really don't think it was fresh. UPDATE: We went this past Saturday to have breakfast, like we do every Saturday morning. But the last 3 times we have been here our food has been consistently worse. This time was the deal breaker: included burnt scrambled eggs, pink flimsy bacon and "toast" that wasn't toasted. I'm shocked it was even sat down on our table this way! We ate the toast and did our best to choke down the eggs because the rest was not edible and not once did our server ask if something was wrong. He cleaned our plates, brought our check and we left. I can assure you we will not be returning to Olive Branch, which is sad because I really enjoy their coffee. I just wished they took more pride in the way their food is prepared and plated. PREVIOUS REVIEW: We recently just moved here! And decided to try this place last Saturday for breakfast! We both got the traditional breakfast with bacon and toast! Both dishes were great! So great in fact that we went back at lunch on the same day! We both got the chicken salad sandwich and a cup of creamy potato soup. After a second time of trying Olive Branch, I have decided not to ever return. The first time I tried this place, I was excited to have the chicken salad because I had some chicken salad that was catered and I thought it was from here. Turns out I had it mixed up with another place and was very let down when I ate the chicken salad that I received. Today, I went and I ordered a baked potato because I felt like you can't really go wrong with that. The potato was still really hard... I also ordered a SMALL side Caesar salad and when it came out it looked large but I didn't know what the sizes were. I should have expressed my concern because when the bill came, I was charged for a full sized Caesar salad that I didn't even really eat because the dressing had no taste and was the consistency of water that had a paintbrush with white paint sit in it. read more
