This women-owned business is just fabulous. They are so helpful, kind and passionate about what they do. This gourmet tasting emporium allows you to sample their olive oils and vinegars. Whether you like a classic olive oil or flavors like pomegranate or vanilla, you can sample them all. I've learned a lot about cooking since shopping here and am now tuned into all the simple ways you can use it to flavor foods from pasta to ice cream. No need to get huffy! I sadly had to miss the Elite events at this location. But I made a solemn vow to the powers that be to stop in and see this sexy little shop in this quaint plaza in Rocky River. Sweet mother of monkey milk, YASSSSS! I am so so glad I stopped in. You will be greeted with the most beautiful and friendly faces that are eager to help you. What a great first impression. The decor of this store is perfecto! It's like a little piece of Italy right in front of you. Warm, inviting, well laid out and easy to navigate. They sure got it right when they did the interior of this store. I love all the little cooking tools and ingredients to make your dishes extra special. Orange, chipotle, rosemary, butter, Tuscan herb and garlic. Those are just a small sampling of the VAST array this place has for flavored oil. Holy crap, I had no clue you could make olive oil even better than it starts out. This place sure knows how to do it and do it right! I love that you can sample each oil and make a solid decision on what suits you best. I left with Tuscan herb and chipotle. I eat it on my salads every single day! It doesn't stop there. They have the same vast selection on the balsamic vinegar side! My youngest fell in love with the espresso balsamic and my oldest loved the raspberry. What a great way to elevate a great salad or side dish. I cannot wait to come back and get more! If you like olive oil, balsamic, or simply delicious flavors, you should definitely check this place out! It's located in the Beachcliff shops area of Rocky River right near the border of Lakewood. It's not visible from the street, so you'll have to park and walk around the shopping area to find it. The right side of the store offers sampling of at least 15-20 different flavored/infused olive oils, and the left side offers the same in balsamic. The raspberry infused balsamic was my favorite with a unique, tangy but not too powerful flavor. This shop also offers a variety of salts to bribe your meats and multiple seasoning blends to add to your olive oil for dipping. This is such a cute shop with a great selection! The staff were incredibly attentive to what you needed, and even offered to make blends for you. They asked us our favorite flavors and suggested other flavors we may want to try, as well as providing some of their favorites as well. I made a poor choice in trying to try EVERY flavor of oil and vinegar while I was here, but it was very overwhelming. They suggest you use a new sample cup each time, which I felt bad about but it is important so flavors are not combined. I did not feel that the different olive oils were as bold of a flavor as I was looking for, but I did find many unique balsamic vinegars. The 18 year aged vinegar was delectable! My favorites were the ones that leaned more towards the fruity side. I could see any of these olive oils or vinegars elevating your favorite dishes or salads, so I would definitely try and come out here, especially if you have never been olive oil tasting! The olive scene is such a wonderful store. I really enjoy going in and getting acquainted with fresh new ideas for mixing balsamic vinegar's and unique oil blends. The staff is always fantastic and goes out of their way to assist you with introductions to new ways to use the oils And vinegars. I stopped in to use a certificate I had and walked out with several new mixtures that I will be trying in the future. If you need a gift this is a great place to visit. Can't believe I haven't come here before now. Of course, I stopped in to get someone a gift and would not have thought to come in to get some items for myself. However, now that I know how awesome it is, I'm sure I'll be back to get more. I love how you can sample all of the oils and balsamic vinegars. They have bits of bread or you can just pour some in a cup and drink it. They also have recipe cards and suggestions of what goes well with the oil/vinegar, which was super helpful when shopping for the gift. I couldn't leave without the strawberry balsamic vinegar. I've been in a rut with salad and just so tired of the same old thing. And part of it is that it's hard to find good salad dressing at a local grocery store or for me, to find time to make my own. I treated myself to this little bottle of vinegar with the promise that I will pair it with salad! It really has elevated the flavors and makes it seem like I'm getting a fancy salad at a restaurant. After trying their traditional 18-year Balsamic vinegar, all other Balsamic vinegars pale in comparison. I like to pair it with the rosemary-infused olive oil for a salad dressing that needs no spices or other ingredients. Their garlic-infused olive oil is a go-to ingredient in my kitchen. I like to brush it on bread when making grilled cheese sandwiches -- grilled cheese on garlic bread is very tasty. :-) Once things return to normal after COVID-19, I am looking forward to visiting the store in-person -- they have samples of the oils and vinegars, and I frequently discover a new favorite flavor. :-) read more

We met one of the owners (Tracy Lockhart; a cooking teacher and very friendly, enthusiastic cheerful woman who was more than happy to create a mini tour for the 6 people that showed up to check out her place). An amazing and unique little place that claims to have the freshest olive oil possible (as well as other great little items of culinary fun and function). You can sample an amazing array of oils in little shot glasses - and dip in little piece of bread - all gratis. Was visiting family a while ago and stopped in here before lunch. The oils and vinegars are top notch! You can go in and sample whichever ones you'd like, and they even give you recipe ideas for each flavor. I tried so many different types, and there were only a couple I thought I'd never use. I wound up buying these four bottles: harissa oil, fig balsamic, Tuscan herb oil, and herbs de Provence oil. If you like making spicy food, definitely buy their Harissa oil. It's off the hook and makes boring dishes have kick. I use it all the time. I also use the fig balsamic with plain olive oil for salads on a pretty regular basis. Simple and delicious! Ordering online is nice for those of us who got addicted while visiting but live too far away to pop in on a weekend. When we went to visit our friends, they absolutely raved about this lil olive oil shop in their town to the point my friend's husband in the wee hours on Saturday night made us taste a sample of the strawberry balsamic. At that point, I knew we had to go the next day. We walk in and there are balsamic vinegars to one side and olive oils on the other. There are pieces of bread in a container and a water cooler along with the tiny sampling cups with each firkin so you can go crazy with the combinations of tastings and I have to say we did. It was incredibly hard to narrow down what we wanted. The Olive Scene offers various sizes that make it affordable and not a big commitment - $5 is their smallest and then goes up in $5/$10 increments from there. The staff are incredibly friendly and are there if you need assistance in pairings of oils and vinegars and with what foods and even suggest recipes. The Olive Scene also sells other items such as pastas and spices. We settled on the pomegranate balsamic, 18 year aged balsamic, tuscan herb olive oil, chipotle olive oil, white truffle oil ($15 for a small container!! I thought what a steal) and a few others that I am blanking on. I know I will go through these incredibly fast and when I do I am relieved to know I can order online at their website. I love this little shop. The walls are lined with large silver dispensers and one side is all balsamic vinegar concoctions and the other is all olive oils. You are able to taste all the products before you buy, by dispensing it into little cups, which is good because at $18 a bottle, you want to make sure you like what you are getting. I've bought the mushroom sage olive oil, 18 year balsamic (amazing if you are a vinegar lover like me) and a Tuscan blend olive oil. There are some pairings you would never think of like mango vinegar, and others that are so obvious, they are perfect (truffle olive oil). They also have some delicious flavored pastas and other accouterments. I highly recommend a trip to check it out. It's full of great hostess gifts or a gift for yourself! read more

When The Olive Scene opened, I was kind of perplexed. A whole store, devoted to olive oil? I kept meaning to drop in, but always seemed to be in a hurry when I was in the area, until today. As of today, I will be making excuses to drop in as often as possible. Because this place is a treasure. As you walk through the door, you're greeted by a scene that seems more alchemy than cooking: both walls of the shop are lined with squat, stainless steel firkins, each with a spigot at the front and a small catch bowl beneath. To your right are the olive oils. To your left are the balsamic vinegars. In the center, another half dozen of these small silver, holding the most precious of these marvelous fluids. The olive oils in the front part of the store are identified by region and olive, much like fine wine. Infused oils make up the back half of these oils. The balsamics are flavored with everything from anise to vanilla. And you are welcome to taste everything. Small plastic cups are stacked liberally throughout the store, and the women who helped me was generous in her introduction to the process, enthusiastic about sharing her favorite oil and vinegar combos--and then gracious about leaving me alone to wander about, tasting to my heart's content. In the end, I bought a standard bottle of a medium-bodied oil for cooking, a mini bottle of blood orange infused oil, and a small bottle of vanilla infused balsamic. And limited myself to only these so that I'd have an excuse to bring Ferrett back as soon as possible. I would love to see the store expand to organized tastings, maybe in partnership with Tartine Bistro, three doors down. Nevertheless, I will be spending more time and money in that little section of Rocky River. And my cooking will benefit. read more

I love this shop! My mom came to visit over the summer, along with two of my flight attendant friends from out of town. We each left with a variety of different oils and vinegars. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can sample as many of the varieties of oils and vinegars as you would like. The prices are pretty reasonable, as well. My mom really liked the cinnamon pear vinegar. I couldn't remember what olive oil she liked, but when I went back this month to get it for her again, they had it saved in the computer. Brilliant! I bought basil olive oil and grapefruit vinegar. I think those two will pair nicely together. I can't wait to try them in salads. Recently I have seen some cocktail recipes calling for different flavors of balsamic vinegar. I can't wait to try that, as well. Great venue. read more

Oh, how I love Olive Scene. I've always had an affinity towards the strong, pungent, sour taste of balsamic vinegar. So, when I stumbled into Olive Scene I was very excited to try all the different flavors and styles of vinegar and oils they provide. Not only do they let you try any of the delicious and interesting flavors (think blood orange or harissa infused olive oil, and cinnamon pear balsamic) they come in various sizes and recipe cards for ideas when you're absolutely clueless as to how to use that lemongrass ginger infused white balsamic vinegar you HAD TO HAVE. Honestly words cannot even describe the experience I had here. It was beyond awe struck. As soon as I walked in I was kinda intimidated. The whole store is lined with stainless steel containers with spigots and little plastic cups. Each container has a sign describing the oil or vinegar. One side is all olive oils, one side is all vinegars. I had no clue where to start. The employees were extremely friendly and knowledgable. I explained what I wanted and was then led to exactly what was needed. They have three sizes, mini for $5, small for $10 and regular for $15. All are priced extremely well. I left with the perfect birthday gift, several mini pairings if oils and vinegars. Their flavors were super creative, from plain aged balsalmic to fig or pomegranate. The fig was by far my favorite. I loved the chipotle olive oil as well. Seriously, there's no reason why you should go to the grocery store at all for oil and vinegar when such an amazing place is right down the street. read more

The staff is VERY knowledgeable and helpful for your first visit. You will NEVER, EVER go back to using regular grocery store bought olive oil after using the Olive Scene's products. They are freshest, most wonderful tasting olive oils you can buy in Ohio. I can't rave about this store enough! It's just THAT good!! Worth the travel!! My favorite olive oil is the Coratina from Australia- light, slightly fruity and all delicious and my favorite vinegar is the apple- not as strong but you definitely get the apple taste. Really fun place to browse around! No pressure to buy and they welcome you to try as many types of olive oil and vinegar as you want. I loved trying the different types of evoo next to each other; you can learn a lot by the side by side comparison. The flavored oil oils are a lot of fun, too, and great for throwing together an easy salad dressing without having to chop any herbs or garlic. For me the buzzkill was walking out and realizing I just spend $30 on salad dressing! Place is dangerous! Great place to go with girlfriends and to have fun. This is for the Chagrin Falls location. This is the second time I'v been to the Olive Scene, and it's awesome! I love being able to sample the oils and vinegar before buying them, and the oils here are fantastic. I've tasted more expensive oils, but not better ones. The prices are also reasonable given the quality. The service is also very good. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the products they've recommended that haven't been available for sampling have been great. Seriously, I was actually pretty impressed by how much they knew about what they were selling. They've also got a very good vegan butter flavored olive oil. The citrus flavored olive oils are also very good, although the oils I really go there for are the single varietal unflavored oils. They've also got 18 year aged balsamic vinegar for a pretty good price, and a bunch of interesting aged flavored balsamics. read more

First, let me say I like the products. However, the service is horrid. The people are nice but are clueless as to how to take care of more than one customer at a time. Today was the third time I was in the store and walked out without having been helped. Mind you, I had every intention of buying numerous holiday gifts for clients....had a list all ready to go with names and shipment locations. When I asked the one person manning the store if she was the only one, she said "yes" until noon today. That was it....she did not say she would be right with me, she did not ask how she could help, she didn't ask me to hold on a second. NOTHING. The previous two times, the same thing happened. No one said..."I will be right with you." Or...even acknowledged me as a customer. I have spent a decent amount of money in the store and have always been persistent in going back even though the service is bad. Today was the final straw. I am done. And...this is really too bad. I do like to spend money locally. The other sad thing is....they really do believe they give good service and do it better than others. read more
