Palazzo is an Italian restaurant in the Edgewater neighborhood. My friends invited me to the special dinner here - Black Italian Truffle Dinner at Palazzo. I'm not truffle connoisseur, but decided to try something new. Based on our conversation with the chef who approached our table after dinner, he was dreaming of hosting this dinner forever. There was always something that came in the way until this decadent evening. I'll share my experience from the special dinner. AMBIENCE: Palazzo is like a gallery meets fine Italian restaurant. There are plenty sculptures including Michelangelo's David replica. Paintings of ballerinas reminding me of Degas. Walls of wine bottles, predominance of stone accents, and a small vase fountain transport you to Italy. Touches like backlights and wine bottle walls make the atmosphere romantic. The restaurant has multiple dining room spaces. There is also a wooden bar. There is also a covered patio. During our visit the restaurant was extremely crammed. The dinner was sold out. Tables were so close together that it was challenging to navigate between them. Guests had to move their tables to let someone pass through - other patrons or staff. I did not feel comfortable with these seating arrangements. The restaurant was very extremely loud. I couldn't sit comfortably without bumping my chair into other guests. I'm not sure how the dining layout looks like during regular days. Hopefully there is more room at the restaurant. The bathroom is in the basement, so not ADA accessible. The ceiling in the bathroom was awkwardly low. FOOD: Our dinner was 6 course experience for $125 (no tax, no gratuity, and no drinks included). First course (Antipasto) was Pera Sacchetti - Pasta Pillows, Pear, Formaggio,Truffle Cream Sauce, Fig Balsamic. Second course (Insalata) was Arugula - Black Truffle Oil & Shaved Parmesan. Third course (La Pasta) was Cheese Tortelloni & Sea Scallops - Shaved Fresh Truffle, Butter, Garlic. Fourth course was (Pesce Pan Seared Halibut) Black Truffle Cream Sauce & Roasted Rainbow Carrots. Fifth course (Mare e Monti) was Grilled Filet Mignon Medallion & Petite Butter Poached Lobster Tail Truffle Butter & Cauliflower Purée. Sixth course (Dolce) was Truffle Cream Filled Cannoli. Every course featured generous amount truffles and was very well crafted. I loved Mare e Monti, filet mignon and lobster were well prepared. While the courses were pretty petite, the dinner was filling. Considering the dinner menu, it was good value. Beyond the dinner, my friends really enjoyed wines. I ordered Prickly Pear mocktail ($10). It was okay, but not really flavorful. It was too ginger beer forward. It was pleasant to seem multiple mocktail options. SERVICE: It was wonderful that the chef personally greeted every table. I enjoyed learning about his story. It was a nice touch for him to speak with the guests. The rest of the service was average. The hostess was not very pleasant which set a bad first impression. Our waiter was fantastic but awkward. He kept taking away wine glasses and bringing back the same glasses. There was a lot of confusion with drink orders, and the wrong bill included the wine. Perhaps this was due to handling a large crowd. EVENTS: The restaurant is planning other upcoming events. For instance, Lenten dinner ($55) on Wednesday and Friday (February 18-April 2). PARKING: The restaurant has a very small parking lot with an incline. Arrive very early if you want to secure a spot. There is really no street parking nearby. You can park at the RTA bus station across the street. Parking experience is inconvenient. I'm conflicted on how to rate this restaurant. I enjoyed dinner, presentation, mood, and personal chef approach. I didn't like the table arrangements, service, and parking. If the service was warmer and less rushed, I would be all about this restaurant. read more

The drinks were really good, almond old fashioned and chocolate martini and the food was awesome. I had the lobster, crab cake and lobster bisque. Highly recommend. Our party of four had a wonderful experience at The Palazzo. It's my 3rd time here and it's always been great. The staff was very friendly and did a wonderful job serving us. APP selection was difficult but a must-try is the Sacchetti. The eggplant was also delicious. For meals we tried the specials although several menu items were very appealing. The four cheese ravioli with lobster and shrimp was fabulous. The ravioli may be some of the best I've had. The short rib was also very good but it's not the best I've had here. I wish I could give The Palazzo 10 stars. I have been a customer there on four occasions. Each time my expectations were blown away. Last night I had the wild boar shanks and it easily replaced a meal I had in Italy, as the best meal of my life. Every item is served with perfection. The atmosphere is beautiful, but comfortable. We had a lovely patio date night at Palazzo a couple of weeks ago. We sat on the relaxing patio and enjoyed the ambiance. It wasn't super quiet but the sound of people enjoying themselves was blissfully all that we had to listen with no need for loud music. The service was wonderful. They sat us promptly at our reservation time and our server clearly had lots of knowledge of the menu and food. We shared everything including a basket of bread I forgot to photograph. Brought my parents here yesterday when they were in town as they love Italian food and it, again, did not disappoint. Everyone was as impressed by the sachetti as I was the first time I had it so we ordered two appetizers because it was too delicious not to. The mussels were delicious and cooked to perfection and they give you so many I'm not kidding it's probably 4x what I have received when I ordered mussels at any other restaurant. The seafood pescatori had so much seafood I was in awe - I can't believe how generous the portions are. My husband said his porkchop was the best he's ever had and didn't even want to share - I muscled it out of him haha. The server was amazing and thoughtful, suggesting to us what made sense for sharing and as always the restaurant was decorated cleanly and beautifully. My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at the Palazzo tonight. The food was excellent (Salmon special for my wife, and the pork chop for me), and our server, Michelle, was very personable, attentive and accommodating. The owner/chef Rafael, stopped by our table to ask how or meal was and we gave him high marks on his cooking and his restaurant! We''re putting Palazzo in our return visit rotation! On our way out we looked at the partially enclosed patio area in front. It's very well appointed, with heaters for the cooler weather. We'll give that a try on our next visit! read more

Don't judge a book by its cover, or is it the outside of a building by its amazing menu! Hands down one of the best meals we have had recently. Scratch made and authentic Italian and seafood dishes. Salad and desserts made to order, great wine selection and the appetizers were heart enough to be a main course. The pizza, the pizza was so fresh and real deal brick oven. Stopped in for birthday celebration dinner for our boy's 28th. The Calamari and Tartufo Sacchetti appetizers were delightful. Entrees were also well prepared, however, the waiter advised the fish special was cod and I was served salmon. When I asked, he insisted the fish i received was cod, and when I turned on my camera light and showed him he finally agreed it was salmon. The waiter insisted the chef changed the fish on him and didn't tell him, which I don't believe was the case, as there is a pretty good difference between cod and salmon. He also advised he couldn't take it off the bill, even though I barely touched it, as the owner wasn't onsite with the key to do so. We were provided with shots of Limoncello and a piece of Tiramisu to make up for the mistake. Only reason for 4 stars vs. 5 is the screwup on my meal. read more

Palazzo could've been better. The service was good. Our waiter was very friendly, helpful with the menu, and the kitchen was fast. No complaints there. However, the food lacked that punch of flavor to make it unique and something I would get a taste for. I remained disappointed from the Italian wedding soup, a favorite staple of mine, to the Bucatini Bolognese entree. The portion size on both was good, but the bolognese sauce was lacking. It sounded great on the menu (Handmade Bucatini, Ground Veal, Duck, Wild Boar, Red Wine, House Marinara) but didn't live up to the hype. Also, the decor is a bit...homey. It says remodeled basement to me. Between the food and the decor, the menu is overpriced. I wouldn't refuse to return, but it isn't knocking my favorite Italian restaurants down in ranking. read more

Probably my favorite Italian restaurant in cleveland. Wonderful atmosphere and a very welcoming space. The white table clothes and dark wood inside make for a cozy and intimate vibe. They also have a patio which is more open. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The food was incredible. The truffle sachetti and favorito pizza are so delicious both with the truffle flavor that comes through without overpowering the dish. Wow loved this place so much! Perfect for a nicer date night. The staff was extremely attentive and the food and cocktails were delicious. We tried the aperol spritzs and They did not disappoint. My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here on a recent Saturday night out. Make sure you call to make a reservation ahead of time! We luckily arrived early right at 5pm and they said the reservations were full for the night but we could sit at the bar. We have heard to many great things about this place so we were excited to check it out. The chef came from Luca and we love that place too. The ambiance is wonderful and it was decorated beautifully for the holidays. Everything we ordered was delicious! For appetizers we ordered the Stuffed artichokes and Pera sacchetti (pasta pillows). The pasta pillows were AMAZING!! Could have enjoyed that as my entree. If you are looking for a romantic night out or somewhere to go with close friends and family you should call now and make a reservation! We had a really nice Valentine's Day dinner at the palazzo restaurant. All the waitstaff and hostess really outdid themselves with the service provided and everyone was super friendly. We never had an empty glass of water and definitely never had to flag down the waitress. She was very patient and we didn't feel rushed at all. We ordered a bottle of the Italian mixed red wine. We have been there twice now and both times the chef came out to see and thank us,, giving us a complimentary aperitif after delicious meals. The servers are top notch professionals. Soon to be neighbors of this restaurant, we've been anxious to get out there and give 'em a try. The old space has been updated and has a lovely, lively feel to it. The main level has an adjoining bar space that was amply filled on the weekend night we were there. Downstairs their appears to be a "party room" capable of holding a private event for 30 or so people. The servers were all very knowledgeable and entertaining, making for a fun evening, and the restaurant is a "family affair" with other folks from the chef's family serving on the staff in various capacities. Enough about that...on to the meal! Just after sitting down, a basket of warm, crusty bread arrived along with a dipping sauce made up of olive oil and balsamic vinegar; it was one of the best olive oils I think I've ever tasted! Our table decided to forego appetizers and went with a soup and salad course instead. My wife and I shared a Caesar salad. It had a bright, tangy dressing which was not creamy but delicious; I think they used a traditional dressing recipe that included anchovies because I could taste the distinct brininess. The added (grated) cheese gave it even more of a kick, but the dish was a bit overpowering as it was slightly over-dressed. Our dinner mate ordered the creamed soup with truffle oil and shrimp and she loved it. For our mains, my wife and I each ordered a dish and split them...ravioli all'aragosta (lobster and shrimp stuffed) for her and their breaded, pan fried pork chop for me. The lobster and shrimp ravioli was rich, hearty and filling with its blush sauce served with additional whole shrimp on top. My wife felt that the "extra" shrimp were a bit overcooked. The pan-fried pork chop special was pounded thin but still as big as the entire plate...tender and juicy topped with sliced grape tomatoes, greens and a balsamic drizzle. My dish also came with a side of snow peas and potato wedges, both pretty tasty. I thought the pork chop itself was excellent, but was unclear about the toppings chosen for this dish, it felt like it was missing something to give the dish a kick. Full from the meal, we had left just enough room to share a dessert...the table chose chocolate mousse. It was served in a parfait style glass topped with whipped cream and a fresh strawberry. It was a rich, full-flavored chocolate, but not so overpowering that you could only eat a few bites. It disappeared pretty quickly. ;-) All in all a pretty satisfying experience, and looking forward to another outing there some time in the future. read more

I kept passing by this dashing little spot on the corner of Detroit... until the fateful day we came to grab some Italian for a birthday. FINALLY! I was intrigued because I had glanced at the menu in advance and saw that they had sacchetti which is my absolute favorite dish at other Italian spots, and I had to see if it compared! Well boy did it! I actually had the app and shared with the table, then got it with grilled chicken on top as my own meal! I don't play around when it comes to a decadent cheese sauce I adore! I ordered the charcuterie to start and the cheese/meats were divine. We also had some Ripasso (you can't go wrong with anything Valpolicella region) and it paired perfectly with all the foods we tasted! I will be back, Palazzo! So good! What a great find. We started with the calamari appetizer; be sure you don't eat too much bread because you will want it for the delicious tomato broth. Our table had the Halibut special, the Osso Buco, Cavatelli with blush sauce, and one person had the gnocchi swapped out with cavatelli in arrabiatta sauce. Everyone raves about their meals. Truly very good homemade noodles and carefully created sauces and plates. Two of us split a house salad to end the meal. That salad was one of the best I've had in a very long time. Perfectly balanced vinaigrette. As an added bonus, I was brought cannolis with a birthday candle. Fortunately, there were four on the plate; enough for each of us to have one.
