When I heard that he was selling a three pack sampler of his Middlebury, habanero hot, and bourbon barrel honey as part of a Virtual Yelp Event I knew I had to try it! Wes provided excellent communication and the honey was shipped out in a speedy manner. The honey was very securely packaged in an eco-friendly mailer and padding. Each glass jar was a petite size, and the package came with some recipes. I've tried the Akron Honey vinaigrette so far using the Middlebury honey and it's wonderful on salads. I loved all three flavors. The Middlebury honey is dark and has a pleasant, slightly tangy flavor to it. The bourbon barrel honey is AMAZING. You can really taste the bourbon in it, and Wes says it took a full year to develop this honey. The habanero hot is spicy as advertised and really packs a punch! It's a lovely combination of sweet+heat. As a honey hoarder (I've got varieties that range from mango to manuka) I was very impressed with the service and quality of honey from Akron Honey. They exchange your card, benefits for wooden nickels , good for any food product , or little green coins that are only good for produce. There are usually two or three different bakeries, including Brimfield oven . A coffee vendor, and at least one seller of free range meat. Her products are frozen, of course. There were a couple people who have free range eggs. There is a dizzying array of vegetables available, and the vendors can tell you more than you ever thought to ask about any of them . You will probably find some new favorites like daikon, radishes, and Mizuna greens. There are multiple colors of carrots and beets, as well as different varieties of radish and turnip. The hard thing is not to overspend because your eyes are bigger than your stomach . and I will also say that because you are getting organic produce, you can eat the greens on everything on the counter: carrot tops and beet greens and radish or turnip greens(google that if you don't believe me, these are all edible,) ... as well as the usual kale and cabbage and chard. Although they've been here for only a short while, they currently craft their wines at @lincolnwayvineyards --a place we love and have missed visiting. I absolutely loved the "Satisfaction" red wine. It's a dry, oaked wine with aromas of dark fruit, made from French-American hybrid DeChaunac grapes originating from New York, and it boasts a 13.1% ABV. Another standout was the "After Midnight," which reminds me of a saying my parents used when I wanted to extend my curfew in high school: "Nothing good happens after midnight." This wine is the exception. It's a semi-dry, floral aromatic wine, also originating from New York, on the sweeter side with a 2.5% residual sugar and a 12.3% ABV. Overall, the staff was awesome, the wine was excellent, and the space was inviting. Can't wait to revisit. Cheers!
