Yesterday we saw at a farmer market 12 for $7. So a bit more. They have a complete industry going in summer and fall. Lots of pumpkins. Prices for a good size pumpkin is around $16. Kinda high. Good size though. They have a corn maze and such. Corn maze is not free. They have hot dogs, ice cream and corn on the cob to eat. They have glider picnic tables arranged around. It's very family friendly. But after 30 mins you can spend $60 easy. They sell bread and bakery from local places. Loaf of fresh bread is around $7. Inside they have a ton of different fruits and veggies as well as jams and Amish treats. Fruits and veggies can be pricey. We got some lettuce, 3 tomatoes, 2 potatoes, green beans, 1 onion, bread, cost us $41. We could have gotten more but that was enough to spend. Bottom line. Good quality. Good selection. But you're going to pay for it. We like Szalays and will go back. Just be aware of what you can afford.

Held every Saturday from the middle of June until October... and special winter events on…read moreoccasion... this is a bustling market with a wide variety of food, plants, and crafts. 1 star deduction for parking... the police have started blocking off sections of the diagonal parking in front of town hall and positioning an officer to be sure no one uses the spots... not very visitor friendly... since town hall isn't open? New This Year Brunty Farms - chicken and eggs... they also have a booth at Howe Meadow Farmer's Market... and offer a discount of eggs if you bring the box back and re-use it. Trigo's Market Bakery - nice selection of round and rectangle loafs... with a rotating foccacia selection. They also have a stuffed foccacia (forgot the name of the style) and we tried the pear, walnut, blue cheese... outstanding! Beefallo - haven't tried them yet, but they offer ground, patties, steaks and other cuts of American Buffalo's that have been bread with cows? The booth has been packed so I haven't heard the pitch yet. Repeat Winners The Pierogi Lady - Serves some hot to eat there... the rest frozen... you can even order off of her Facebook page and pick them up at the market... so far this year we've loved the crab rangoon and the french onion... and this week picked up some chicken pot pie and yam with walnuts to try. Bluebird Meadow Farms - bratwurst, breakfast sausage, ribs, roasts and later in the season even duck Hattie's Cafe - great selection of jams and salsa Edgesmith - next week I'll start my yearly cycle of sending my chef's knives in for a pro sharpening... they do a great job with pruners too. 2 Amish farms come as well as 4 or 5 local offerings of specialty lettuce, herb and garlic growers. We don't go for the candle seller or the popcorn person... but at least once a season we buy from the honey people and the maple syrup lady. Lots to choose from... and everyone is really friendly... worth the drive to check out some of the local breakfast or lunch places... and a can't miss when the Taste of Hudson is happening!

The wrap was filled with fresh vegetables it was yummy. The cheeseburger comes with fresh hot thin French fries that were so yummy. The burger comes with pickles and mustard and ketchup you can ask for them not to put it on. It was perfectly cooked and the flavor was absolutely on point. The Amish market also has a donut shop that is wonderful. Each donut is 2.00 and they are made all day long. Open Thursday thru Saturday. There are cheese and cold cut vendors. Furniture and custom leather belts and hats. They have a place you can purchase dips for fruit and veggies and they make up beautiful trays daily. Homemade stuffed pretzels with everuthing from breakfast items inside them to just cheese. Fresh cup up fruit and veggies. Every kind of prepped salad you CAN think of. Veggies who veggies sliced. Fruit whole fruit sliced. The best place to find goodies for the weekend. Fresh meats to buy and take home and cook. Ready to eat prepped foods to eat there or take home. A shop for spices and wonderful things to use in the kitchen. This place also has a section where you can buy homemade fresh baked cookies cakes pies, breads. So much here to look at. Candy too. We went back to eat and again I had the Egg veggie wrap. It was fabulous. My friend had the breakfast burger. Crazy good. Burger cooked perfectly on a bun with cheese, sausage gravy, and an egg cooked any way you want she chose scrambled and some sliced home fries. Crazy Combo with a fabulous taste.

They could do a lot more to cater to…read morethose people - to make it a stopping point for a healthy snack or drink - But they don't have apple samples on weekdays; they won't let you buy single apples; the staff are snippy and don't know what's going on, and it REEKS of the artificial, phthalate-ridden candles and air fresheners they sell here. Also, the apples are way in the back past all the smelly stuff and touristy garbage - like they're just an afterthought. That's sad.

They also bake really good cookies and serve hot or cold apple cider. Always pick up a couple bags of apples and browse their shop with food, kitchen gadgets and linens, and holiday decorations. I think the Kent Winter Market is a fabulous endeavor for our area. Sure, pickings are slim, but it is winter in Ohio. Unlike the West Side Market, you won't find this place overflowing with fruits and vegetables that have been shipped in from god knows where. That's why I love our market. It's all local, and no BS. My review of the Winter Market is really no different than my review of the Haymaker Market. The vendors are all very friendly and energetic, as Mike mentioned. Don't be shy to talk to them, because trust me, they want to take the time to talk to you! Have a question about their practices? They won't hide any details! Want to know the ingredients in a product? They're happy to tell you! This place is really all about community, and it shows. The market is held at Lucky Penny Creamery. You need to arrive early because the parking lot fills up quickly, and many of the goods won't last all day. I make sure to go first thing in the morning to get my grass-fed beef and free-range chicken! The inside is small, so if there are many vendors and many patrons, it might get a bit tight. Just be patient and enjoy yourself! Definitely worth a visit while you await the return of Haymaker in May!

Last weekend we took a Saturday morning trip to the Hartville Marketplace & Flea Market, and it…read moreturned out to be such a fun outing! When you first pull in, you're greeted by the huge marketplace sign, and right on the corner is the garden center--complete with the famous Bigfoot that everyone seems to stop and pose with. I was surprised to learn that vendors can rent a 10x10 outdoor space for just $22 a day. The catch is you reserve the same day each week for four weeks in advance, since the flea market is only open four days a week. $27.00 under the pavilion but there's a waiting list. Before we started shopping, we stopped at Sarah's Grill for lunch. Their burgers were delicious--fresh tomato, crisp lettuce, sweet onion... definitely worth the stop! Then came my favorite find of the day... strawberries! They were advertised at $5 a flat. When I picked one up, I noticed a few moldy berries underneath. The vendor immediately smiled and offered them to me for $4 a flat instead. Sold! I brought home two flats, which worked out to about 16 quarts of strawberries. Of course, I couldn't leave without grabbing a bag of fresh kettle corn--that's become one of my favorite flea market traditions! Like any flea market, there was a little bit of everything--the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some booths looked freshly stocked, while others looked like they hadn't changed in weeks. But that's part of the adventure. You never know what treasure you'll stumble across. When we got home, I immediately flash-froze most of the strawberries, and the rest became homemade freezer jam. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning--good food, great bargains, and a freezer full of summer to enjoy later. Have you ever been to the Hartville Marketplace? I tried to buy another one today but they were out. So I settled for the peach fritter bread. Do not buy. MAYBE, there was a 1/4 cup of fresh peach in the entire thing. Very disappointing. Also, the famous blueberry donuts are more sweet than fruity, just saying. One time was enough for me. Am looking forward to trying the homegrown plums and cantaloupe I bought today. Overall, tho, it's a pleasure to go the White House Fruit Farm!
