There are trainers on site training folks but they are super nice and definitely not aggressive with equipment like trainers in other gyms. Short version: you aren't less just because you are training on your own. Everyone is courteous. There's plenty of workout space, plenty of equipment and variety of equipment. The building is organized into two floors and about 3-4 main training areas. The squat / deadlift room is a class act and these days an essential to have. The spaces are well lit, clean and organized. Members could rerack weights but this is a problem in all gyms right now. There's plenty of parking available. The building is well maintained. The changing rooms, showers are all clean and well maintained. There's no sauna, there is no steam room, there is no pool of any kind and good riddance -- those always bring the worst of the gym goers. There's no daycare, no children's area. Leave your children at home. Now there is a spa side, that's where steam and sauna might be. I don't know. That part is extra on top of the membership. You just have to decide if you need those services. I don't. The price point is higher than other gyms, and yes you get what you pay for. It is however the same pricing as Fit athletics that closed. If you ask what could be improved: The gym could use about 10-20 additional 45lb plates to be distributed in the training rooms they have as there aren't 45lb plates to go around in general. Just for clarification. I train heavy. Perhaps most other people did not notice this. The hours are a little conservative especially on Fridays and weekends. It's a family owned gym, you deal with real people, no corporate, it's mellow and friendly. Free of texting teenagers, children, socialites, fitness influencers, tripods and recording and other Houston annoyances, this gym is a breath of fresh air. It's for courteous, grown up, serious exercise enthusiast.

CONS: It's in a remodel which isn't ideal but that won't last forever. Doesn't affect use of gym, just aesthetics. Also, a tad pricier than a "big box" gym but you get what you pay for, I don't regret the investment. Ultimately I've been a member of a dozen gyms over 16 years and this is my favorite one so far. I recognized one of the gorgeous personal trainers Jourdan from high school and immediately reached out to her and filled out the intake form. Seeing how in shape she was and her feed really motivated me to pursue this gym. The intake process was relatively quick and I came in for my first session with Jourdan. She showed me a couple of workouts and showed me around both Illuminate Fitness and Illuminate sweat. We sat down and discussed goals and I was so pumped to start this journey. I will say from the first meeting I was so hooked by Jourdans bubbly personality. She is SO freaking sweet. She set me up with my current PT, Kelly who I adore. It's been about five weeks since I've started my meal plan and training with Kelly twice a week as well as attending the group classes four times a week. I've seen so much change in my body and even on the inside (my confidence, self esteem etc) I could literally cry. I was lying to myself before I started coming here eating whatever I wanted and "working out" in a constant cycle of going 110% and then quitting. I was so tired of the BS. This gym has transformed me inside and out. Everyone here is extremely genuine and supportive. I love that I have them to look up to. I love the community feel and how they are always looking out for their clients. I want to give a major shout out to Kelly, Jourdan, Nate, Colby, Emily and the rest of the team for everything you guys do for your clients. Legit…read more It's a pretty elite Gym which only serves people that work in the area, and it's kinda fancy but also kind of expensive which I suppose makes sense, because if the earnings of the people that work around here are anything to go by, then this is expected to cost a lot. But it does seem a bit elitist, and also I think the fact that it opens at 5:30 can be a bit of a problem, because if you work here at Memorial City and you start at 8, that might be okay as long as you only want a quick workout, but if you work somewhere else in Houston and you start even as late as 9 then good luck getting done with a 2-hour workout and getting to work in time.

This gym has very nice amenities considering its small size. They have hand towels, bath towels, disinfecting wipes, good hand sanitizer, filtered water with cups, and a big locker room with showers and a really nice mirror area. Parking was a bit confusing at first as you navigate through a huge underground parking area, and the gym is located in a large office building with a food court. They validate parking at the front desk.

First, you have to get to the Greenway plaza parking garage and enter via the visitor parking entrance for 4-6 Greenway Plaza garage from the 59 feeder road. Once inside the garage, follow the signs for 5 Greenway plaza. It should be the blue colored parking area. There's a pretty big sign that says visitor parking. Then, look for the entrance that says 5 Greenway Plaza. Enter and pass the flower shop on the left, and Pulse fitness is right there. The front desk can validate your parking right away, which was awesome. The outside sitting area before entering this gym was so pretty and filled with bright natural light. If you go here earlier in the day, you can sit in this area and just relax. I heard some food vendors are also open earlier in the day. Inside, this gym was nice. Let me say this again, it's very nice. Like everything was new: their cardio equipment, weights, machines, kettlebells, stability balls, medicine balls, and probably all their other equipment. Their restrooms were clean, and even had a nice sitting area. They had lockers with 3 digit dial codes to secure your belongings. They have nice showers. They have clean towels on every cardio station and on more shelves. They have a filtered water station. I mean, what more could you want? I do have to mention that they don't have your typical weight machines. They have weights but with resistance cords to them. You can feel the weight both going away from and towards starting position. It just takes a bit of getting used to. Leaving the garage is simple. Follow the sign to exit for southwest freeway (Highway 59), and you're good to go. Next time, I will have to inquire about their HIIT classes. So, I will definitely be back.

There is a row of standard treadmills, a row of ellipticals/bikes, a squat rack, free weights, various weight machines, and a studio lined with wall mirrors for stretching, floor exercises, and group classes. The view of Rice University and green trees / city buildings is pretty nice while you're working out from either the cardio / weight room or the studio :) and it's never been packed when I've been. The locker rooms are simple with daily use lockers (bring your own lock!), showers, and bathrooms. They have towel service with both little towels and body towels. Simple and convenient, it's a great employee gym!

This is a great neighborhood YMCA with a good variety of amenities and classes. One of the biggest…read morehighlights is the outdoor pool, which is heated during the winter and stays open year-round unless temperatures drop below freezing. The pool also has a 9-foot deep end and a few lap lanes. One downside is there's very little shade around the pool area. Inside, there are free weights and cardio areas, basketball courts, TRX setup, and several group fitness rooms offering classes like yoga, pilates, Zumba, pickleball, and other fitness programs. The instructors and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming. The men's and women's locker rooms also include a steam sauna and hot tub, which are nice amenities. However, the steam saunas are frequently closed or broken for maintenance, so I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm what's currently working before visiting. Another downside is that the lockers require you to bring your own lock--they do not have built-in combination locks like many newer gyms. They offer memberships for different age groups, and another huge plus is the free covered parking garage. However, during weekday evenings (around 6 p.m.), the garage can get pretty full due to after-work crowds and youth programs. I've been a YMCA member for several years and would definitely recommend this location.

I also like the weight room as it has an impressive selection of smith machines and cardio equipment such as the treadmills which have fans incorporated into their machines. There are 3 things I have noticed that I don't like: 1. the weight room doesn't have a bench that allows you to do workouts in declined mode and the staff wouldn't let me donate a commercial bench with that option. so Declined DB or BB press cannot be done which is strange as it is offered at most corporate gyms. 2. DB selections for the most common weights sets such as 10-25 lb are lacking with only 1 set of DB weights per designated weight for a gym that might have 15 people working out in free weight room (the very least offer *3 sets of 12 lb dumbbells). 3. the men's locker rooms wooden benches and the three leather seats by the tv are stinky dirty and we know this bc every-time I placed my towel on the seats or the bench to change out of my clothes; this foul smell is left on the towel. The smell is so potent that it transfers to my gym bag like trash left out on the sun for several days and I find myself having to wash the towel and the gym bag just to get the homeless stench off. I have learned to avoid the men's locker room like a plague and instead use the lockers found across the gym to put my belongings.
