What a great surprise after a day of wine tasting. We were looking at restaurants in Forest Grove, but found the ones we wanted to go were closed on Monday. We heard the group that was at Failla before us planning to go, so we decided to try it as well. We are sure glad we did. There were two other tables in the restaurant and we now have four new friends. Very friendly guests and bartender. Kristina was superb. She was efficient and very engaging. My wife had the Veggie Burger with Tots and I had the BBQ Burger with French Fries. Both were perfectly cooked. I understand Monday night is Steak night as well, and the two gentleman next to us were having that. They raved that the steak is always cooked perfectly...one rare and one medium rare. We will be back, and likely for steak night. read more

We had a date card to go to a small town restaurant so we drove out to Gaston and tried our luck at the one Horse tavern and it didn't disappoint! Cute bar with a modern western decor, including hides on the benches. Our server was very attentive and the food came out quickly. The steak bites and tots looks plain but the steak was tender and juicy. The tenders was a huge portion for the large size. Great prices, we'd definitely recommend it. read more

Overall, food is alright, service was alright. But when you notice they have a "Let's go Brandon" sign above the cash register, it is time to leave. Stopped by on a Friday night, on our way to a football game. Group of about 5 of us. Service was quick and very nice. We ordered about 4 different appetizers. The Avocado fries and Cowboy Bread were a big hit. I ordered the Chicken Cali Sandwich. It was solid. Food was out pretty timely. Kentucky mule was made very well, came out ice cold. Seating would be the only thing I could think of that could be better. read more

I had passed this tav a handful of times in my travels from Woodburn to Forest Grove, Hillsboro and Hagg Lake. The small town watering trough feel with an artificial horse tied to a post out front was 100% my flame and here I was...just a big ole moth flittering around it. We all know how that ends. My wife, who typically is less than impressed with my choice/taste in taverns, bless her soul, was game this go-round. Nine years of cohabitation and exploration it took but I finally knocked one out of the park!! The wait staff (Suzie) were friendly, funny and provided great menu recommendations. The beers on tap were great, we opted to sit outside and it wasn't long before some amazing talent began to set up stage and sing for us. We had the mini corn dogs as an appetizer and they were so on spot. Crunchy exterior, soft interior. Dip in mustard, eat and repeat. I could have blazed through two baskets full by myself. I ordered the Double Bacon blue cheese burger with Buffalo cauliflower bites. The bites weren't my taste but the burger was absolutely delicious! My wife ordered the French dip with Cajun tots. She said it was the best French dip she's ever had. The outside of the bread had a nice grilled crunch to it, the meat was thinly sliced but piled perfectly and the horseradish sauce was fire (which is how we like it). If the horseradish sauce doesn't make you close your eyes, wince, flare your nostrils and breathe through your mouth, we don't want it. . A true diamond in the rough and we look forward to patronizing this tavern many more times in the future! read more

Went on a Tuesday during a visit to my parents house in the boondock mountains. Wasn't impressed with the bartender (coming from a bartender) because only a 1 ounce shot was poured for a peach cobbler drink (in a pint glass mind you). I work at a fancy hotel and even we pour stronger than that. HOWEVER, I have heard from multiple people that the man working weekends is an amazing bartender so I may be back to give him a try for a decent drink. Had a burger as well. Was decent for 8$ or so. The bun was just a basic white in toasted bun and it didn't come with fries. I suppose weighing it out now... I was rather disappointed from the visit overall. Have visited a second time--on a weekend evening. Wouldn't have a burger again but their sandwiches are very good! Their cordon Bleu and Ruben are tasty as well as their fried mushrooms. The beer is a pretty safe bet since the pours on cocktails are a little skimpy. The workers do a lot on their own though, been there, so always tip well! 15% is just okay btw.. read more

For what it is - a dive bar in the middle of no where - it was okay. My margarita was a bit sweet, but drinkable. My husband asked for a plain & dry bacon cheeseburger. It arrived with lettuce & tomato. I asked for no mayo. My burger arrived with mayo. The only real downside was the place filling with smoke from the kitchen. I have been here several times after the new owners have taken over. I have ordered the One Horse burger a few times. Angus beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, red onions, and a delicious bun. I have gotten the fry's also. It is the place, comfortable, clean and very friendly. Highly recommended! read more

I was in town for a wedding and a couple friends and I decided we would go out for some food and a drink. Approaching the town I was a little worried as I have yet to see a stop light. When we arrived my first thought was that this was the epitome of a dive bar and I was instantly excited. Walked in and sat down and wishing a couple minutes had our orders placed. The food was excellent, exactly what I had hoped for. Thirsty Thursdays have a great thing going for them and the waitress was extremely helpful. She was the only one working and was very busy as it is clear the locals regularly stop here, but I was here to drink and to hang out, so it was perfect. read more

I was out wine tasting with a couple of friends, and this place came highly recommended by a local. The fish sandwich had been mentioned as good, so that's exactly what I wanted. I also ordered the corn chowder, which was home made and had great flavor. It could have used a little thickening, but was still very good. They had a full bar, and a number of taps. I had Two Townes Pineapple Cider, which is amazing stuff if you haven't had it. They brought a taster glass for my friend for free too! In closing, I will definitely be stopping again. The food was great, the service was enthusiastic and awesome, and the portions generous. Make this your lunch stop when in this neck of the woods. It far exceeded our expectations! Way too crowded, no social distancing possible on the patio or indoors, and so understaffed that the ONE poor waitress was handling at least 10 tables, and that was just outside. The only reason for any stars is that the food is excellent, and if they get themselves together it could be a great local place. Right niw it's a sh!t show. read more

Simply amazing food at extremely reasonable prices. We had: Loaded Fries appetizer - a huge portion of perfectly cooked fries. Cajun seasoning complements the cheese, bacon, and ranch in ways I haven't enjoyed in a long time. A perfect start to the meal and even if everything else had been inedible, this appetizer alone would have made eating there worth it and memorable. Others in our party had burgers which they enjoyed, with sides of tater tots. Crispy outsides but not overdone, just like it should be. I was very interested in the Chicken Cordon Bleu but I've been disappointed with it before in other restaurants, so I was hesitant. (Rubbery chicken, pathetic tiny slice of swiss, flat bread.) At The One Horse Tavern, it's: "Crispy cooked chicken w/ham & Swiss grilled on sourdough w/garlic butter & Dijon" and it is every bit as good as it sounds. The chicken was crispy, the sharpness of the dijon worked so well with the richness of the butter and natural sourdough flavor. I only wish it was closer so I could be here every week. Our server was pleasant and thoughtful - he forgot nothing. The atmosphere is like a favorite couch - might not be polished and fancy, but it feels welcoming and right. I can see why it gets so many loyal regulars! Keep it up; this is how good food and service should be done. :) read more
