Four of us stopped in last Thursday for lunch on the recommendation of a family member. The ambiance was nice but the service was SO SLOW. Two drinks were ordered and an appetizer was recommended which we ordered. After about 10-15 minutes we were told the appetizer was no longer available. We didn't order another as it had already taken so long. We ordered our meals at this time and the order was not written down. We also had to inquire when our drinks were coming. After about a long 45 minute wait in the hot sun, three of the meals we received were wrong. Not to go into detail but it was very disappointing to say the least. We ended up eating the wrong orders as we didn't want to wait for the correct orders. The food was very good however and the server was nice but two of the wait staff spent too much time talking instead of serving. The seemed unorganized. We won't be back. read more

We made a last minute reservation for my wife's birthday. We had appetizers, main dish and desserts. Everything was fantastic and reasonably priced. The service was great and we had a very tasty and relaxing dinner. We never felt rushed and they were very accommodating of our large group (seven people) and flexible with the menu options. Have been craving this place since the first time we went in September! My daughters and I arrived a bit early for our reservation, and explored the gallery that is attached while we waited. Purchased some beautiful earrings! Once again, this restaurant does not disappoint! The service and ambiance were warm and inviting. The beet salad is, by far, the best I've ever had! The lasagne is out of this world, bolognese sauce over rigatoni was so flavorful, and those meatballs....make me want to come back as soon as possible! We topped the night off with the spiked berries over ice cream. Was not expecting such a wonderful surprise from such a simple dessert! Can not wait to come back!!!! Artsy, eclectic and unique! Easy to find foods that are vegan or can be modified to be vegan. We had the good earth - a lentil, squash and kale dish that was topped with a delicious Carmelita's onion/beet relish - a beet salad and the fall salad. All wonderful. We had our son's rehearsal wedding dinner here in February. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service, the food, and the setting. The restaurant closed for the evening so they could offer us a private event. They moved some art pieces in the gallery to provide 3 seating tables for our group. I dropped off a light curtain, table decorations, and signs that I wanted for the rehearsal dinner a couples hours earlier, and they did a wonderful job with using my materials. We had the appetizers and drinks in their regular restaurant and then moved into the gallery for the sit-down dinner. The staff was so friendly and helpful. It was a wonderful memorable evening. My sister-in-law and I liked the food so much that we went back there for a lunch a couple days after the wedding. Highly recommend this place! read more

We visit here every year during our annual vacation to Sisters. Just like last year, the setting is great: Unique venue with a lovely outdoor setting. The patio is multi level surrounded by little potting sheds that are actually mini galleries that house work by local artists. Very fun to go thru after your meal. The wine list is good and reasonably priced, offering both bottle and by the glass. We enjoyed the meatballs, split the Greek salad and split the pasta special. All generous portions and the flavor was amazing. Emily was very attentive as was the bar tender that was in training that evening. We enjoyed bourbon and scotch to end the evening and Emily treated us to a wonderful flourless chocolate cake for dessert. read more

I almost gave this 3-stars of A-OK, but my pastrami sandwich had a bit more than one slice of pastrami. We did stop here after climbing Black Butte from the lower trail head, so that's 10 miles and almost 3500 feet of climbing. I was hungry. The sandwich was tasty, but not enough meat. I've had a great pastrami sandwich at Katz's Deli in NY, and it does cost about $4 more, but literally way more meat than you could eat in one sitting. The ambiance of the place is very inviting and comfortable. They were setting up a table for dinner later that had about a dozen place settings with nice linen napkins and silverware. When our server delivered the food, she asked "can I get you anything else?" My wife replied, "yes some napkins and silverware". So, people who were not going to arrive for an hour or more were getting better service than us sitting right there in the restaurant. UPDATE: 10/6/15 Thank you for the comment to buy us lunch, that was a nice gesture. But my dining experience says I have to say "no thank you". I edited down my "negative review" that I previously posted. I did not mention that nobody greeted us in the courtyard (next to reception area), and a couple minutes later I entered the bar area I said "hello? anybody here" three times, with increasing vocal intensity, before somebody "in the back BS-ing with staff" came out to greet us. I also failed to mention that the pastrami was cold. It was a delicious sandwich, but it was cold and had, perhaps, two ounces of meat. Not enough for a $12 sandwich, IMHO. Also, I asked for mustard, and your server was so delinquent in her service response, I had finished half my sandwich before she brought me the condiment, and I was eating it slowly because I was waiting for the mustard to arrive. So, I really don't expect better service even with a free lunch. But I do appreciate the invitation. read more

Open Door is a cozy, quaint restaurant and wine bar located in the same building as an art gallery. My wife and I ate here during our first night in Sisters and we loved it! She got their house Bolognese pasta and it was really fresh and flavorful. I ordered their salmon and it was perfect. The mashed potatoes it came with were the best part though! Heavenly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Sisters. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

I had lunch today, on a busy Saturday during Sisters Harvest Faire! The owner of this restaurant committed the worst of all offenses! NOT ENOUGH STAFFING. I actually heard the hostess say she could not seat someone yet " because the kitchen would be overwhelmed" Why would any owner have more tables than the kitchen can handle! The service was one of the worst I have ever experienced! We waited endlessly for soup, than food, Even longer for a check. We are locals, the tourists will only be around for the season! Good luck getting me, or anyone I know to come to this restaurant when you need our repeat business during the off season! read more

Lovely garden, waited over 30 minutes for food, the hostess was more concerned filling tables of four than accommodating us, although many tables were empty. The server was sweet. We sat and watched other tables seated after us eat and leave. After the food arrived, we were surprised as the cream of broccoli and cheese soup was extremely watery and lacked taste. The cheese plate with smoked salmon lacked any imagination, but the salmon itself was superb. After we were done eating, they were quick to bring the bill (2 minutes). We are visiting Sisters and a friend who is a local recommended The Open Door! Wed night- we did not have reservations but the hostess was so accommodating seating us inside! We happened to sit right across from The owners and it was Dan's birthday! They recommended a cocktail and it was super! We started with artichoke dip and WOW great! Waiting for our meals a woman was seated right across from is in the same table where Dan was sitting! She had a HUGE dog HUGE and we are thinking Really inside! There is a patio, seat the dog people OUTSIDE! Why why why ! Crazy but shortly after her dinner partner arrived with an even BIGGER dog. A big standard poodle so big it was almost bumping into us !!!!! Why was hhis allowed this was so incredible ! Yes people these days want to bring their dogs to eat out in restaurants its the way of the world ! But this was so wrong! In a very small restaurant to have an outdoor area and allow these HUGE dogs inside! our food arrived and we asked to take it to go! There was no way this was comfortable! DOG wagging tails in our food we could hardly get out of our table! Too bad because we said we really liked the open door, the food was good, very serene atmosphere until the Monster dogs! I've been driving through Sisters for years and have been disappointed in the choices for restaurants. NO LONGER! The Open Door is a great place with great food, friendly and competent staff and a great environment. The beet salad was generous and easily served two of us. The daily pasta dish was superb. There were so many things we would have liked to try but were only in town the one evening. The wine list is excellent and everything is reasonably priced. A super find for sure! read more

You're not going to find burgers & fries here but its absolutely perfect for a great glass of wine or beer w/an appetizer. Or if I'm hungry for more, a salad, sandwich or pasta are all equally delectable choices. Everything I've ordered has been excellent! Portion sizes are perfect. The patio has a lovely, relaxing ambience & has enough open space to give kids, who might want to take a break from the table for a bit, the freedom to do so. Service is friendly & attentive but not intrusive. The servers never make you feel rushed or that they want you to leave so they can seat the next group of people. When the weather is too cool for al fresco dining, the indoor seating is cozy & intimate & all the fantastic artwork feeds one's spirit. What a great place! I am by no means a wine connoisseur, so thinking the Open Door was a wine bar, I wasn't sure it was the place for me. But the first time I visited to join friends, I was very pleasantly surprised. First off, I had a wonderful local microbrew and some fabulous food. Then I described the type of wine I like to our waitress, who brought me something fantastic. I still don't remember the name, but she did -- and brought it to me before I ordered two weeks later! Incredible service. The ambiance at the Open Door is enhanced by a beautiful indoor space, a quiet backyard patio, lovely artwork and wonderful people serving. Another Sisters reastraunt that disappoints. I'm writing this review 5 minutes after leaving. One, taste your food. Two, apple pie Flatbread is novel but not tasty. Three, ensure all $35 hallibut filets are close in size and NOT over cooked. Four, seriously, a basalmic reduction drizzle on the 35 dollar fish filet stacked on dried out potatoes, really? One of the specials was a 15 dollar penne, chicken, creamy spinach and sundried tomato sauce which somehow turned into a bowl of penne with small cubes of chicken, spinach. and a Chipotle flavored seasoning. It was not creamy at all, was spicy and tasted pland.! Who is tasting your food and saying this is acceptable? Please please please stop preying on hungry travelers with mediocre food. The services was great, the wine was good, the cocktail was fine, the art deco atmosphere great, so why not serve good food with a 95 dollar bill. Just wow! read more

Had lunch there today during the crazy busy Sisters Quilt Festival. Had to wait for a table, but could walk around Sisters and come back when it was time. The food was delicious. The staff was wonderful - even the lady who had to manage the waiting list! This restaurant is connected to the art gallery run by the family (and wonderful outdoor artist Dan Rickards). I've eaten here several times. I like the cozy indoor porch setting, as well as the tables spread around the garden area. We'll be back. read more

Recently had a private party to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. We had a wonderful evening. I had approximately 25 guests join us on the outdoor patio. Julia, Emily and the staff made it such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It gave you the feeling of being a guest at someone's home. It was a cooler evening during Sister's Rodeo weekend. They had patio heaters, a couple of open fire pits going and blankets draped over chair backs for our comfort. Those extra touches added to the charm. My guest loved the buffet of delicious favorites from the menu as well as some tasty smoked salmon and chicken smoked on the property. The new addition of the bar in the "Tipsy Trailer" in The Yard was very convenient for the guest to enjoy at their leisure the offerings from the open bar. As for being the host of this celebration, I could not ask for more of a stress-free planning process. I was in excellent care with Emily. She organized and delivered beyond my expectations! This place was truly amazing. My gf went here on Friday night after driving from Salem, and wow. We started off w the bread basket (AMAZING), and then I had the Good Earth which was DELICIOUS. We're from Portland and we're just in town for the night. This was such an amazing choice for that one dinner we get here! Excellent ambiance, as it's set in a multi-room gallery, but we sat on their lovely patio with a gas fireplace. They gave us wam fleeces to mitigate the brisk wind so common to the region. We sat near the central fireplace but there were many nooks with couches and cushioned chairs. There were some areas clearly under construction but it was unobtrusive and hinted at future cozy nooks and meeting spots. The pandora station throughout the restaurant was excellently curated, and the server knew all the artists that came up. The food was amazing! They could accommodate special diets easily, knew all the ingredients and could recommend adjustments. We both got the flank steak, which was locally sourced beef. The restaurant smokes it all morning before grilling it, and you could really tell from the complex flavors. They had great wine options but we tend to be beer snobs, and the server had excellent recommendations for what they had on tap, and then with dessert (GF DF flourless chocolate cake), she made a chocolate porter cocktail with the Crayer Lake distillery's hazelnut coffee liqueur floated over the surface. Another delightful aspect (for a city slicker) was that it was all priced at what we pay for a typical brunch! White cloth level ambiance, service and food, at 2-dollar-sign prices. Woo! The flatbreads were great! And the salads just hit the spot - there's not much I wanted to eat in the intense dry heat of the high desert there. I ended up there three times in the few days I was in Sisters. Every time the service was a little slow but I suppose there's not much rushing around that needs to be done in Sisters. read more
