Blueberry Lemon Drop and Mezcal Drink (I forgot the name but it was good)
    Joe S.

What a find in Downtown Bend... Ok, my coworker was here before and suggested we go, and I'm glad I heard him. It was kinda late as we were at an evening conference event, and after a short wait, we were seated! Crowded and late is usually a good sign. We ordered some great cocktails to start and a Cajun BBQ Shrimp Appetizer. The cocktails were great and unique, but the BBQ Shrimp was amazing. It's not like being in New Orleans, but it's pretty close! And you better believe that plate went back to the kitchen spotless!!! That BBQ sauce was bomb, which means good apparently. For some reason, we switched out waitresses halfway through, which made tipping awkward. However, each was funny and friendly in different ways. That's always a plus when you've been on the road for 10 days or so and are feeling the wear and tear on travel and bougie food. For Entree's, he ordered a salad which looked amazing, and I ordered the blackened redfish and swapped the sides for fries and carrots. The fries were absolutely amazing, as was the redfish. So good... I wish the carrots were mushier (more mushy?). That's a personal preference. Waitress #2 highly recommended the carrot cake and assured us she wouldn't pass judgment on two dudes sharing dessert. I'm glad she did as it was one of the lightest and best carrot cakes I've ever had. And the carrots WERE mushy here. Then she had the entire kitchen staff come out and laugh at us for sharing (ok, she didn't, but that would have been classic). I enjoyed my time in Bend and this place would be on my list for a repeat visit if I'm ever here again. Loved it!

Discovered Zydeco Kitchen from a local that gave us the best dinner recommendation! We immediately switched our dinner reservation to this spot, and I'm so glad that we did. I wasn't expecting to find southern comfort food in Bend, OR, but Zydeco is truly exceptional! My partner and I arrived early and started with drinks at the bar. Hostesses were kind enough to seat us as soon as a table became available, which was well ahead of our reservation time. Our server was a little odd, but quirky isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just a little strange when they ask whether you're ready for the goodies. Our goodies included the bone marrow as an appetizer and for entrees, the jambalaya and redfish. My partner loved the bone marrow, but it was a little too much for me. I wasn't a fan of the texture, but the presentation was nice. The showstopper for me was the jambalaya. I've never had something so tasty that kept me coming back for more! It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy and it had a good mix of seafood and sausage. Highly recommend Zydeco if you're looking to dine out in downtown Bend!

For reasons unrelated to restaurant quality or reputation, we'd avoided Zydeco. Recently, however, along with a couple friends, we decided to give it a shot. Verdict: Zydeco is an outstanding restaurant in virtually every way. No negatives to report. The place is popular - arriving just before opening on a weekday, there was a line to get in. Reservations are definitely a good idea here. Our early arrival in line allowed us to choose a good table in the back, where it wouldn't be too hectic. That too was a good idea as the place gets loud with conversation when it fills up. Music wasn't loud, just the people. The menu isn't huge but there are quite a few, varied choices. Given the meal was a bit of a splurge for us, I essentially ignored the prices, which are not trivial by any means. Fine dining entails spending money. Zydeco has a ton of reviews and as the menu apparently doesn't change, I'll just say everything we ordered was great. Cocktails too. The Bramble Down is exquisite. Service was top tier as well. Timely, attentive, professional without being stiff. The capstone to our experience involved the bill. We actually had a gift card from 2017 - nine years ago. While it certainly didn't cover the whole bill, or even half, it was a nice way to defray costs. Unfortunately, when the server ran the gift card, it showed no balance. Not sure why but perhaps over the years, the card had been erased by stray EMF. Despite that and given we provided the card receipt, the restaurant honored the card for the full amount anyway. Well done. Highly recommended.

Made a reservation and glad we did. It was busy and didn't have to wait to be seated. We got the BBQ shrimp as an appetizer and was so flavorful and cooked perfect. The sauce was great for dipping bread into as well. Most of us all got the grilled redfish and also tried a bit of the smoked pork chop. Everything was cooked nicely and loved the flavor of everything. The smokiness came thru on the pork chop and was my favorite. We also tried cocktails and were unique and well balanced. It was lovely inside and had a great server. This place came recommended and did not disappoint.

We had such a great experience at Zydeco. We're visiting from Seattle and were really impressed. Our server was so kind and took the time to explain the featured items and some customer favorites on the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious. The BBQ shrimp had so much flavor, the oysters from WA were fresh and amazing, and the blueberry lemon drop and passion fruit jalapeño margarita were both so good and really refreshing. And the carrot cake at the end was rich, moist, and the perfect way to finish the meal. I honestly wish I had taken more photos because everything looked as good as it tasted. We left very happy and will definitely come back next time we're in town.

Over the moon about this Southern-inspired restaurant! It's a cozy spot located in downtown Bend with a great atmosphere. Even without a reservation, they were able to accommodate us at their communal table in the bar area, which ended up being a great experience. The service was outstanding--our server was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to walk us through the menu, thoughtfully describing each specialty dish. Every item we ordered exceeded our expectations. The BBQ shrimp, roasted marrow bone, shrimp & crawfish jambalaya, and key lime pie were all exceptional. I would highly recommend any of them and can't wait to come back.

The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable, even memorizing the drink menu and helping guide our orders. The baby back ribs were absolutely to die for, tender and full of flavor. I had them and was very satisfied. Drinks were great, and we appreciated the non-alcoholic mocktail options for part of our group. The fries were a bit salty and the steak was slightly overcooked, but that wasn't my plate. Overall, still a great experience. The ambience was great and made for a comfortable, enjoyable meal.

Came here for a bachelorette party dinner. Our waiter was great. Handled our party of 8 smoothly. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had a steak with carrots and scalloped potato side and it was cooked perfectly. Also enjoyed a classic lemon drop martini with Tito's.

Cappavatti pasta. Has shrimp and sausage in it.

Food was delicious. I ordered the Cavatappi pasta. There was a lot of good flavor in it and the pasta was cooked al dente. Shrimp tasted fresh and the sausage wasn't too salty. Everything complimented each other. Service from Ana was great! We had a large party and she did a great job. Drinks and dessert were very meh in my snobbish opinion. They were ok. We drank and ate it but nothing stood out. All the drinks tasted overly sweet. We ordered chocolate cake and carrot cake and they were all mediocre at best. Atmosphere was ok. Sometimes I feel you can't win it all. It's definitely an upscale type of spot. But it was sooooo loud. It was difficult speaking with anyone who didn't sit directly next to or in front of you. All in all, food was great. Good experience.

This is a MUST if you are in Bend Oregon Ambiance is upscale, the menu is absolutely amazing, value for quality and portions is aligned and the service is top notch. This combination is extremely hard to find. If there were more than 5 stars I'd give more! First of all - shout out to Dustin who was the BEST server we've ever experienced. It was our 1st time here (visiting from out of state) and he was extremely knowledgeable with the menu - explained the dishes and provided some highlights. He gave us recommendations (even to the tune of "which of these 2 whites would pair better with my entree") which were always spot on. We ordered cocktails needed a little more time with the menu and I loved his style of asking us to turn our menus upside down which would alert him to come back instead of coming back to check if we were ready (with such an amazing menu it was hard to decide) Cocktails: Bramble Down Bourbon Street - delicious and delicately prepared Starters 1) Smoked Trout Dip - if you like fish this was creamy, smoky and the pickled onions added that extra touch. Flavor explosion! 2) Village Baker Striata Bread & Olive Oil - freshly baked, hard to resist fresh bread and olive oil Entrees: All of these were absolutely delectable! 1) Short rib (on the special menu) was melt in your mouth 2) Blackened redfish - cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned 3) Caroline Gold Middlins "Risotto" - this is not your traditional risotto, made from mushrooms and not arborio rice. I love mushrooms and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys mushrooms. The texture was like risotto but with such a lovely earthy flavor Dessert: 1) Zydeco Carrot Cake - this is a house favorite and didn't disappoint! Carrott cake is one of my favorite cakes and this was one of the best ever! Highly recommend 2) Cheesecake - also amazing. This review is actually from a visit in May that I'm getting to writing but we are visiting again and am eagerly awaiting my experience to try more things on the menu. Visit if you can :)

5 -- WOW. Dinner at Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails last night and it absolutely delivered! We started with a beautiful bottle of Domaine Serene 2021 Pinot Noir... smooth, elegant, and the perfect pairing for everything that followed. I started with mussels and clams (seafood will always be my first pick) and scallops for my husband--both were incredible. For the main event, I had the blackened redfish (SO good) which is the best I have had outside of New Orleans and the steak lover went all in on the ribeye... and let's just say there were zero leftovers! Every bite was delicious, the atmosphere was perfect, and the best part? Our server Emily never missed a beat all night! If you're in Bend and looking for a fantastic night out--this is your spot. All the tables were full and it was a Monday night!

Is the outdoor seating open year round (as long as it's not raining)? We are travelling with our dog for the first time coming up and don't want to miss out on eating at our favorite place!

For sure outdoor seating is great here, not a lot of tables, 7 or 8 with lots of room for pets but it is seasonal. Always check in first, doors open at 5pm sharp and usually at that time you can snag an outdoor table but you have to check inside…

The atmosphere is rustic, cozy, and a little exclusive, which made it a really unique spot to grab a drink! We stopped in right after checking into our hotel, and it was the perfect first stop to kick off our weekend. There isn't a ton of seating, but you can choose between the cozy indoor space or the patio in the alley. Since there were only two of us, we were seated right away. If you're looking for a relaxed place to enjoy a quick glass of wine or a cocktail before exploring the rest of the town, I'd definitely recommend stopping by here. It's a charming spot with great vibes!

At first, walking down the alley in downtown Bend, I honestly was not sure what we were about to find. Then we started seeing little fire pit pods, heated huts, glowing candles, and people tucked away having cocktails. It instantly felt cool without trying too hard. Walking into San Simón felt like stepping into some funky speakeasy hidden in plain sight. Dark lighting, moody atmosphere, David Bowie playing in the background, wild artwork on the walls that makes you stop and stare for a second. Just a great vibe all around. The kind of place where you sit down and immediately relax into the evening. The cocktails were excellent. Not overdone, not syrupy, just really balanced and well made. One of our favorites was the "Some Positive Feedback," which came with this sugar rim that looked awesome and added just enough sweetness without overpowering the drink. Bright citrus flavor, refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. Then we asked the bartender if they could just make us something off the cuff. We said vodka, lemon and lime forward, not too sweet, maybe a little spice. They absolutely nailed it. Crisp, refreshing, layered citrus flavor with just enough heat on the back end to keep it interesting. Honestly one of those cocktails where everybody at the table takes a sip and immediately goes, "Oh wow." As a bourbon guy, I was also pleasantly surprised with the whiskey selection. The bartender recommended Stafford's Reserve, an Oregon bourbon, and I am glad I listened. Smooth, approachable, a little sweet up front with some spice on the finish. Easy sipping bourbon that fit the whole vibe of the place perfectly. What really made the night though was the staff. Everybody was friendly in that genuine way where you feel welcomed instead of "served." By the end of the night it honestly felt like we had been there before, even though it was our first visit. The outdoor setup deserves some love too. Bend cooled down at night, but the fire pits and heaters kept everything comfortable. We could have easily stayed another couple hours just hanging out. Pricing felt fair for the quality of drinks and atmosphere. This is not a dive bar pretending to be fancy. It is a genuinely cool cocktail spot that knows exactly what it is. If you are in Bend and enjoy craft cocktails, bourbon, cool music, quirky atmosphere, and places with personality, go find San Simón. Half the fun is finding it tucked down the alley in the first place.

Let's just start out with the atmosphere.... This place is just covered in craft store plants and Amazon decorations. No character nothing special. Now I could've gotten past that if the drinks were OK. I didn't have super high hopes, but I was very excited to find a Tiki Bar in Bend while I was traveling for work. So I started out with just a classic Mai Tai after looking over the menu and being pretty disappointed that it's just the most basic "tiki" drinks in existence. The Mai Tai was flat out awful, and I mean AWFUL. It tasted like water mixed with lime juice. No alcohol taste in anyway, and not even a drip of Orgeat taste. It is so bad that it upset me, and it's completely clear like water. I did decide to stay cause I needed a break from the long week of work, but I just went straight to rum straight. I could've overlooked this, if there was even any slight conversation at the bar with the bartenders, but they had no interest in talking to the people that were there, three of the people at the bar were employees, and the entire time was just them talking together about how much they don't like rum or even the drinks on the menu. Wild. Past that they were talking about how they store their juices, and that they don't date label them in any way or throw them out after a certain amount of days, they just come in and taste them to see if they've gone bad. Get the f*** out of here.... A quick Google search will show you that most citrus juices start to oxidize within the hour, and orange and pineapple are not far behind... Don't even come here and give it a try, just go somewhere else.... This place should not be in business.
