Best brunch and options in town my only complaint is that there are so many good options for sandwiches, soup and desert that it is almost impossible to order. Incredibly cute cafe tucked right by a little antique shop and farmer's market. I had a few hours to kill before a wedding so I took a drive looking for a place eerily similar to this. Basically I just wanted good coffee and something sweet. The antique shop next door was just a bonus. Ordered an oat dirty chai latte and a raspberry almond scone and took them right out to the patio to enjoy. They have a bunch of tables out there and it was so nice to relax, read and sip in the sun. This place is a real gem with a wide variety of pastries, breakfast, and lunch choices. Everything is made fresh and you can meet a lot of the local residents. What a gem! The owner is super friendly and he really appreciates his customers. Everything is baked fresh, including the bagels. I went there to see how accurate the reviews were, mostly 5 and one 1. First of all it is a unique and cozy place with a unique breakfast/brunch menu. It was expensive for how much one gets but no complaint about the unique bowl items or the quality. Actually prices are escalating everywhere. My wife and I had different bowls and concurred. She liked the coffee; I thought okay. We went on a Sunday for brunch and the spacious room was occupied by an Irish music group which sounded great but that room was full. Also I was disappointed in the minimal array of baked goods...but it was late. And it is on a hill with a beautiful view and next time I hope to take it all in from the outside patio. read more

This new business is owned by seasoned (heh) professional Chef Keith. He makes the bagels every morning himself, and they are amazing! Folks who used to go to his prior gig in Peterborough will recognize the signature baked goods and sandwiches on the menu. Keith's added a bunch of new items as well, and the new layout includes both indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend anything with the house mustard. Tried it again after having a terrible meal and encounter... well this was even worse... the bagel was doughy and and chewy and burnt on the top from toasting? The cheese was skimpy and the egg overcooked.. my partner had pancakes and there were 3 smallish ones and the most sugary type sauce we asked for more maple syrup because a teaspoon amount is NOT enough.. prices are way to high for the food/place and service read more

I love this place. Big Ben is my favorite drink, the lattes are good too. Everything I've have is delicious. Pastries, cookies, homemade candy bars, amazing bagel sandwiches. Everything is local and farm fresh! I'm egg sensitive so I can eat their egg dishes!!!! Everything is homemade from scratch with love by the awesome owner Keith. Chatted with the owner and encouraged him to claim his Yelp page We ordered the Egg & Cheese on Everything and the Egg, Cheese, & Steak on Sriarcha Maple. Both were delicious and the previous reviewer wasn't kidding about the mustard, it's great. Pleased to see alternative milk options (Oat and Almond) and Oregon Chai (my dirty Chai was delicious!). On a hill overlooking the road out of town, this old farm stand gives off welcoming country vibes. Enter to find a wonderful warm interior with some very cool table decorations. The food is amazing! Make sure you get the house mustard for that extra spicy kick. The owner is going to want to get to know you and have a quick chat. First time at The Optimist Cafe today, I had the Optimist hot latte and a blueberry vanilla scone. It was the best latte and scone I had ever had. Owner Keith was behind the counter and even made my coffee! The kitchen was quick to clear our empty plates. You could tell it was high end service which you don't typically find in a cafe environment. Everything was so beautiful and so clean. The Optimist cafe is my new favorite place. It's nice to go to a breakfast place that actually makes the food, and this place does that with personality. My husband and I both got the house special bagel sandwich, which alone is worth making the trip to this top-o-the-hill getaway. The house mustard is their secret sauce, and luckily they sell it separately. After finishing our hearty meal, we walked away with a tub of mustard, a glass of lavender lemonade, and plans to return. Including a beautiful "little free library". There is a gift shop with locally made goods and their own spice and dip mixes. So if you love the meal you can buy the flavors. They also have a greenhouse in the summer. They have one menu per month, it includes a dip, a soup, a salad, a bread, an entree a dessert and two beverages. The peach raspberry tea is wonderful, the lavendar lemonade is a treat and the mocha coffee is delicious - though it is decaffeinated. (You can get regular caffeinated coffee to stave off your food coma on the drive home too) January 2025's menu was delicious. I had the beef wellington and it was so tender. The flavors on all the dishes were wonderful. The restaurant does 3 to 4 seatings per day where everyone eats at once so the meal is like a very charming assembly line - all you have to worry about is enjoying. Excited to go back and excited for the upcoming menus. I hadn't eaten here in many years. I feel like I've been missing out.

I've ordered a latte here multiple times and I've seen several different people make the drink. Unfortunately the milk wasn't frothed correctly any of these times and the foam was bubbly, not glossy, which is really the heart of what makes a good latte for me. So if you're there for good simple coffee that was a turn off. Their Cup of Love and other hot flavored specialty drinks do make very tasty very rich dessert drinks though. So I think on that they do well but I can't have that everyday or I'll be gaining pounds.

Rolling fields and farmlands surround the establishment. Large parking lot. Ice cream, take out, dine in, and country store all available. I only experienced the ice cream so the rest will be left to my imagination. Fun stop post-hike.
