Pickity Place is a destination and experience. An event to look forward to. The old building in the woods of NH has a little red riding hood theme, and great charm. Including a beautiful "little free library". There is a gift shop with locally made goods and their own spice and dip mixes. So if you love the meal you can buy the flavors. They also have a greenhouse in the summer. They have one menu per month, it includes a dip, a soup, a salad, a bread, an entree a dessert and two beverages. The peach raspberry tea is wonderful, the lavendar lemonade is a treat and the mocha coffee is delicious - though it is decaffeinated. (You can get regular caffeinated coffee to stave off your food coma on the drive home too) January 2025's menu was delicious. I had the beef wellington and it was so tender. The flavors on all the dishes were wonderful. The restaurant does 3 to 4 seatings per day where everyone eats at once so the meal is like a very charming assembly line - all you have to worry about is enjoying. What a great experience! Surpassed my expectations after hearing about this place for years. Loved the quaint feeling of dining in someone's home with the drive there giving more of that feeling with how out of the way this place is. The food all came out quick and appreciated the simple choices that were all excellent. My one small .5 star reduction would be the bread being a bit too dough and needing to be toasted slightly for a warmth and crunch. Other than that, all the food was great and the included drinks from lemonade to coffee, tea and cider is a great touch. Tried the chicken dish and the vegetarian dish with both being excellent. We'll be headed back in a month or two. Make reservations before and check the menu for what they'll be serving as it changes every so often. read more

My most recent visit required me to update and give Pickity Place their deserved 5 stars! 12:45 pm service started 10 minutes late but it was a beautiful sunny fall day so we walked around and checked the shops. I had to get more garlic awesomeness spice as I was running low since my last visit. Also got a few soups and other dips for use at home. We were seated in the greenhouse as requested during my reservation. I mentioned to the person that I was happy the greenhouse was still available since it was my birthday. I wasn't thinking that was noted or that I would get a candle with my dessert. Service was flawless by a great team of ladies that took care of us. My friend and I loved every course we were served. I also liked that they replaced the mango lemonade with a blueberry lemonade. Good change. Everything was absolutely delicious!! After we explored the grounds again and found the new location for grandma's bed and the big bad wolf. Nice to see them again and it adds to the appeal of the experience. I noticed the tree was getting some renovations and stopped to talk to the gentleman working. Turns out that I was fortunate to be talking to the artist that works on the tree. He mentioned that it took him about 6 months to finish the tree. Also found out where some of his other pieces are located. I noticed that the butterfly on top of the tree was replaced by a cardinal. Truly tucked away. At the end of a long dirt road tucked away. The house was built in the 1700's and served as the inspiration for Red Riding Hood's grandmother's house. One really wonders how the original inhabitants had lived; it's REALLY out in the boonies. But on to the food and assorted stuff. Excellent, full stop. They embrace efficiency by having a fixed menu. Two choices for entree and your choice of beverage. That's all. And a notice on the table that food allergies are your concern, not theirs. Which I like. The food is quite good and the prices are super reasonable. $71 bucks for the two of us. Three seatings a day and don't be surprised if they run late as they don't rush people away who are enjoying their food. Beyond the restaurant they have a multiplicity of shops selling tons of things. Many originating on the property as they have a greenhouse and extensive gardens of flowers and herbs. Many of which make their way into the food in the dining room. The atmosphere inside is cozy, for sure. I'm estimating but as I recall there were two dining rooms, each with five tables. Service was pleasant and the food came in waves. It wasn't rushed but certainly it moved along. The menu changes by the month and their website gives the full details. Pickity Place is charming and quaint. Appealing to people of all walks of life. You must call ahead and make a reservation. I don't get the sense walk ins are possible due to how popular it is. Went in September and the gardens were beautiful. You can spend time walking around and even look at some of the items they sell. The meal itself is rather fun. It's a prix fixe 5 course menu that often changes. With some of the courses you have you option to select between a couple of things. Otherwise, it's fairly set. Beverage options are unlimited and all of them sounded interesting. I probably would have tried a few more or gotten some additional refills but the service model makes it hard to do so. The meal is served quickly (each reservation is less than 1.5hrs) and the process runs like clockwork so there's not a lot of casual checkins from the waitress. The food. It's made mostly from local, seasonal ingredients which is really cool. The thai curry dip app was delicious! Toasted corn chowder, also very tasty. Rosemary focaccia and roasted chicken were also very good. The dessert was the only thing that was just ok. read more

Wow! A very good experience! This is perhaps the best food I've had in a long time! Getting here was an experience, we went on the dirt road in a very long time. When we left, we were on a paved road, which was much better. We got an 11:30 AM table reservation. Because it was still early, we were able to get seated right away. They ask for 24 hours notice if you need to cancel. Make sure you book far in advance. I didn't know it's a set menu, where you choose your own entree and drinks. The servers were great and good at refilling our drinks. During our visit, there were several birthday celebrations. During August, they had cold potato soup, and we chose the meat (short ribs) entrees. Everything was so delicious! They do try to clear everyone out by 12:45 PM, to seat the next reservation time. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, the indoor air ventilation was very poor (rising to 3600 ppm and above). It's an old house, so that's expected. I do think the indoor air quality can be easily improved with windows open (if possible). read more

Oh wow! We went here after my wife heard about it from multiple people. This is an old style prix fixe menu restaurant. The food is AMAZING! Really. There are fixed seatings and reservations are needed (often weeks in advance). Ok, back to the food. I like BIG flavor and I was SOOOOO impressed! Everything has fresh herbs from the garden. The opening dip was so delightfully refreshing. The soup was out of this world. The entrees (spare ribs or pasta) were both delicious. The service matched the food. Prompt, friendly, detailed. The pricing-surprisingly affordable for this level of experience. Arrive early and explore the grounds, cute gift shop, and garden. We had fun there too! The building and grounds are from the 1700's, so while credit cards are accepted, reservations are done by telephone (yes, that's what that "phone" app is for!) and recorded on paper. Today by far was the best food and service we ever had. Shaved Prime rib, wonderful salad, popover and Italian egg drop soup was worthy of 2 Michelin Stars. Pickity Place is a winner year after year! The menu offers vegetarian options and the food is always unique and flavorful. Service is friendly and the staff work hard to be accommodating. We visited in prime garden season this year and the nursery stock was healthy and plentiful. Always a cozy vibe in the restaurant and shops, but the outside space is also calm and lovely. Parking can be challenging depending on your seating time, but it's a minor inconvenience to enjoy a nice lunch with friends. read more

Since we were 40 minutes late in getting seated, we were rushed through our meal. This should not happen. Our server was quite friendly, and just doing her job. Again, a management issue. This seems to be an ongoing issue here. Lovely place, honestly. We figured seating would be close to others, and it was. But not as bad as other reviewers made it out to be. The other issue is management cannot control the stupidity of its guests. There was a group of about eight folks standing ry outside the windows, so we had no view of the plants, bees, and birds. Then we had soup. Soup was good on a cold day. Next a very good salad. Entree was braised beef, string beans & mashed with a reduction sauce. Very good. It is a must! Been going for years (dating back to when the servers wore flower Crowns and Long Dresses) and never had a bad experience. I've been here with moms, sisters, husband, kids, grandkids! It's such a unique experience! Great food,, great location, great people Lovely grounds to meander around while you're waiting to be seated or after your meal. There are three seatings a day, most days of the year. The menu is prepared monthly, with a meat and vegetarian option. The food is thoughtfully prepared using local herbs, and the wait staff is friendly & knowledgeable. There have been fairly recent renovations and they seem to have toned down the Little Red Riding Hood theme. Wander through the gardens, check out the wonderful gift shop, and a fun greenhouse. You can also visit with the local sheep and friendly farm cats. Plan an hour and a half for dining and at least another hour to explore all there is to see at Pickity Place. We have been here during every season and have never been disappointed. The food is absolutely delicious and it is a great way to spend an afternoon. read more

I can't believe it's been over 4 years since my last visit to Pickity Place! The restaurant was as charming as I remember it being. Last time we came in the winter, so visiting during the peak of summer, I can say it was HOT! There is no air conditioning in the gift shop or lobby of the restaurant where you wait, but the experience is still very much worth it. We loved the June menu, and everything was delicious. That chocolate strawberry cheesecake was fantastic! We loved exploring the grounds and had a great afternoon here. Though they were a little behind with our seating time again, they worked quickly and got our courses to the table in a timely manner. I look forward to many more visits here! read more

Another annual update in our holiday tradition of going here and this was very likely our best visit ever. Ashley was our server and she was amazing. She checked in all the time, brought us drinks every time we ran out, described each dish and course, and was overall incredibly helpful throughout. I would not say our service has ever been bad here but the welcome and service from Ashley went way beyond and truly made our lunch a memorable one. Food here is always shockingly good. Service was impeccable, however, food not so much. I have been going to Pickity Place for about 40 years. Yesterday's meal was the first time I was dissatisfied. Spiced tea was not hot, served lukewarm. We were seated over 15 mins. late. The roll was the size of my thumb and very tough, perhaps microwaved. The salad was sparse and the main course was nothing more than slices of meat. The garnish was a rind of acorn squash. Dessert was fair. The most enjoyable part of the meal was the pumpkin soup. Gift shop has been downsized and prices have increased unreasonably so. We traveled through an ice storm from 90 minutes away. The previous visit was in August and was wonderful except for being seated over 30 minutes late. read more

Every course was delicious, though the egg drop soup and the homemade roles were the standouts for me. We left the five-course lunch feeling pleasantly full rather than over-stuffed. The meal is well-paced and well-portioned. Be advised that the timings are a little bit fungible. We had reservations for the 12:45 seating, but it was closer to 1:00 by the time we were seated. Fortunately, there are several small shops and gardens that you can wander while you wait, although there was not much growing in the gardens in April. Pickett Place is a great restaurant in a little corner of New Hampshire. They offer set menu seatings of lunch. My friend and I went early to tour their greenhouse and gift shops. They tend to have plants that are a little different than the usual. We have been several times and always enjoy. Today we had a dip Of 'maple and habanero' with crackers as a snack while French Onion soup was delivered. Frankly, while the dip was okay, neither of us could taste maple or habanero, but dill flavoring was detectable if you put a bit of the dip in your mouth and bit the little chunks. The soup was served with a little crouton of some sort that was tasty but difficult to eat because it was hard in a bowl of liquid. We received a marinated asparagus salad, or rather, a salad with two small spears of marinated asparagus, which I found tasty, and I really don't care for asparagus. Who knew? There were two entrees offered: Short rib and veg paella. We both chose the Braised short ribs with Vermont cheddar whipped potatoes, which were incredibly tender. My chief complaint was the temperature - it arrived with cold areas. The meat was topped with a blackberry something, which was very cold. It also had seeds, which caused my dining companion to ask why it was gritty. Dessert followed - white chocolate panna cotta pie. The pie was made of a Graham cracker crust layered white chocolate and panna cotta and served with a chocolate whipped cream. The crust was difficult to cut and fell off the body of the pie, but turned into magic in the mouth as the parts reached mouth temp and started oozing together. Throughout the meal glasses and cups of drinks were kept full, including flavored lemonades and hot spiced tea. I enjoyed a mocha spiced coffee with dessert until I took the last bit. That was a mess of dregs best left in a filter somewhere. I suggest you go! It is a delightful experience. read more

The soup & vegtable barley was to die for & the garlic oil and homemade bread was so yummy the salad dressing was delightful. They actually sold out in the shop because it was so good. Oh yea, so love the food, you can get their dressings, drinks and veggie spice mixes in the gift shop! The key lime pie was the best I've ever had. I ordered the sesame chicken w/ plum slaw & Daikin radish. The chicken was thin & crisp, but the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. Dining at Pickity Place is like experiencing a scene inside of a snow globe; especially during the winter months with the addition of fresh fallen snow on this fairytale cottage. It recently dawned on me that I've been dining here for over 40 years. My roommates & I would visit annually in December. The monthly 5-course Lunch was a bargain back then at just $15.95 and still is at $32.95, which includes your choice of a meat or vegetarian entree and unlimited beverages of sweetened & unsweetened flavored iced teas, hot teas, coffee, decaf mocha, etc. Their delicious food, includes fresh herbs & edible flowers from their garden. The staff, some of which span two generations, are hospitable & attentive. Reservations are required! I've witnessed guests who drove a great distance only to be turned away due to a lack of seating. They have three daily times to select from and will often add a 4th on the weekends. I only took one glamour shot during my recent visit due to how scrumptious everything was! a makeover, with fresh paint, and more tasteful, less 'cutesy' period updates. I said before, and still maintain that the food was very good, but the items served were mere 'tastes' of what was available, and NOT at all luncheon portions. In fact, it was so suprising and disappointing that everyone we were with was shocked and disappointed, especially since the prices were very high for the ridiculous bits of food you got. Again, this could all be rectified, but the managers/owners evidently think offering a spoonful or two or each item for an exorbitant charge is a good idea. After trying twice, we never went back, nor would we. There are many other places here that offer true period charm and wonderful food. The garden center was nice to walk through, but again, it was nothing you can't see elsewhere. It seems that the management thinks that a quaint cottage in the country with pretty grounds makes up for over-charging for a miniscule "lunch". We are costumed historical reenactors with an early cape ourselves that we DIY restored in period style. We also hearth cook and made our own gardens and pond on a tiny budget with lots of hard graft. We didn't go to Pickety Place with any pre-concieved ideas, and we've given our honest review. Usually you need a reservation but my girlfriend and I got lucky and they had a table open for us and the staff were so sweet. The food and beverage were absolutely amazing. This does not differ from previous years that we have come as we always have a delicious meal when we come and have never gone away disappointed.
