We were here visiting family and had already planned a trip to Crater Lake. Even though it wasn't raging and spectacular it's a neat place to stop and check out this unnatural event. Since there hadn't been rain in awhile it was pretty mild (see pics), but if you can time it right and there has been rain for a few (or more) days it becomes much more glorious. Nice little stop area that is kept clean and has a couple nice vantage points for viewing. If you're in the area this should make your list of nature oriented things to do, especially if you are already heading up the North Umpqua for a day of site seeing.

We went to Oregon to spend Thanksgiving w/ his Mom and this little scenic stop happened to be the destination that Kevin wanted to take me to. The weather was cold so my kiddo stayed in the car w/ his Mom... Kevin and I explored alongside the rivers a few minutes just to be in awe w/ nature and of course, take a few pictures. Do you enjoy dipping your feet into cold water on a hot summer day? Or how about swimming among giant redwood trees? If any of this sounds appealing you need to visit Sweet Creek Falls. We came in the middle of summer and it was the perfect way to spend an afternoon hiking, meditating, and swimming. There are 11 waterfalls ranging in size and close to 2.5 miles all together of shaded trails to explore, rustic bridges included. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Oregon last summer. Know before you go: Parking lots at each trailhead. Super stinky bathroom located only at Homestead Trailhead. Dog friendly. And most importantly FREE! *Don't be surprised to see topless women swimming. We all have breasts and it's a beautiful thing to be free especially in a place like this. If this bothers you just look away. *Don't use Yelp directions as they'll take you to the wrong place. Use Google instead. I've reported this several times but like nearly everything I report Yelp ignores it. And Happy Earth Day! If you haven't discovered what nature can do for your soul I highly recommend getting away from the daily grind, turning your phone off, and just enjoying what places like this can do for you. It's truly magical.

There are so many photo opportunities. Many different bridges along the trail allow you to walk over the water. There is a part of the trail where you have to walk through a small stream. I wasn't wearing the proper gear and didn't want wet shoes and socks, so we headed back at that point and headed towards the upper parking lot. The upper trail still had snow on the ground, and the parking area was pretty soggy. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We would love to come back again during a drier season. Highly recommend!

Its a lovely location with comfortable, clean rooms right on the river. We walked around the property in the evening to settle our nerves and slept well. In the morning, I let the innkeeper know the tow truck would come to get the car. I asked if I could purchase something for our breakfast since we only had snacks for dinner...She found some oranges and oatmeal. A half hour later, she and her husband arrived with hot plates loaded with pancakes, hash browns and sausage for us. What amazing generosity! It got us started on a positive note as we waited for a tow truck and wondered how we would get to our homes in Santa Cruz, CA. I highly recommend the inn and the people who operate it, too.

For my husband's birthday I decided to give him a charter fishing trip. We woke up bright and early and signed in. My husband told me to take seasick pill even after I told him that I don't get seasick. I kind of think this was the cause because... Yep, you guessed it, after we were on the bumpy water and I had caught one whole fish, I started feeding the fish. My entire trip was me feeding fish. Oh, wait, except the one time I decided to feed try the reel again and slipped going head to head with the fish in the bins beneath me. I could have sworn one was screaming "Nooooooo!!!!" As I was trying to avoid him. The crew was so amazing! They had to try and balance taking care of me along with the many fishermen/women/kids. They even changed location of smoking because I told them it was making it worse for me (yes, they smoke on the boat). The crew caught my fish for me so when hubby and the rest were finished we had plenty of fish. I highly recommend taking this charter and plan on going again sooner than later...but without the seasick pills. Really, I think that was the cause. ;) ........ .. .... ....................
