Voodoo Penne

The service here is hit or miss, the food takes awhile to come out. The salmon ceviche barely has salmon. The voodoo penne is my favorite pasta dish ever. I am a very big fan of the breading on the calamari as well. The margarita flatbread is perfect to me. The crepe is very fresh.

I've been to Caffe Boa at least 5 times, and it's never disappointed. I have had their salmon salad, crepes, shareable board, and more. They were all delicious! I appreciate that their portions are not humongous, so I can explore Tempe afterwards without lugging around a doggy bag. The servers are super professional. They have accommodated our requests without any issues. The service is not the quickest, but that is okay because the food is super fresh, presentable, and yummy. The environment is pretty laid back. It's not informal like a sports bar, but it's not formal that it requires jackets. It's classy for a brunch with friends or a cute date. For a fun weekday date, they offer live music Monday nights.

Butternut Squash Ravioli dish - A-

The charcuterie board options are great. Pretty restaurant. We were blessed with beautiful weather so we sat outside. Our server was very nice & helpful. I got the butternut ravioli dish. It had good flavor and I would order it again. My husband got the lasagna and he wasn't quite as impressed. He said it lacked flavor. It looked delicious, but he struggled to finish it.

Still one of the best restauraunts in Tempe. The Coniglio is a must-try always. Huge portion and homemade!!!

Excellent food, strong wine & cocktail program, real potential... Largely positive experience at Caffe Boa Tempe. The food is genuinely excellent (house-made pasta and sauces, thoughtful sourcing, beautifully plated). Craft cocktails are inventive, and the wine list is extensive with a focus on cleaner selections. The space is warm and inviting, with free Wi-Fi and some power access in the back, giving it potential as a strong third-place gathering spot. A few service flow and accessibility details could be refined, but the foundation is solid. We came to Cafe Boa for a weekday lunch, and unfortunately, it was a pretty underwhelming experience from start to finish. While the restaurant has a nice layout and the patio seating was pleasant thanks to great weather, the positives ended there. The food was mediocre at best. My Bianco Flatbread was bland and overly oily--there was barely any flavor to it. I also tried the Reuben, which had potential, but the sauce made the bread so soggy it fell apart in my hands. The antipasti platter was fine, but it's hard to mess up a plate of cured meats and cheeses. The biggest issue, though, was the service--it was incredibly slow and inattentive. We waited far too long for everything, and our waters sat empty for most of the meal. What should have been a quick one-hour lunch turned into a two-hour ordeal, which was frustrating since we were on a work break. To top it off, a table near us actually got up and left after no one came to take their order. Maybe dinner service is better, but based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend Cafe Boa for lunch. We expected much more.

Our reservation mix-up had us seated outside in the Arizona summer, but luckily it wasn't too hot--and we had the best waitress, Ava. She made the night fun and memorable. Her recommendation of the Antonino Street Corn was spot on, and the mains (Ossobuco, Coniglio, Ravioli Zucca, Voodoo Penne) were excellent. We ended with the amazing Zucca Gelato. Ava's great service turned a warm evening into a wonderful dining experience.

Haboob cocktail and beer - Dec 2024

Service was great, we made a reservation for dinner and were seated promptly inside. We got two pastas, 1) fettuccine Bianca with adding the wild Alaskan salmon ($34) and 2) voodoo penne blackened chicken with Cajun cream ($23). We got two drinks and the special sausage perogis as an appetizer ($24). They charged a 2% credit card fee which was not communicated to us that was strange but we paid it. 3.5 stars, overall the food was too expensive and drinks were average. I got the Haboob and it came without a straw so my first sip was all bitters. Asking for a straw helped but it was too sweet for me. My pasta was delicious, noodles were delicate for the fettuccini but the value fell short. The had other items menus that sounded intriguing (rabbit, ossobucco) that we wanted to try too but came for a pasta craving. The perogis really missed the mark for us and were not worth the $24. They have indoor and outdoor dining and some metered parking outside.

Went the Caffe Boa for a girls night. The ambiance did not disappoint - the perfect mix of fancy and relaxed. We wanted to dress up and go somewhere cute and this was the perfect place for that. We sat on the patio but the inside looked just as cute. Our server was very friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu. I ordered the gnocchi dish with mushrooms and a sauce (I forgot the name oops). The gnocchi itself was amazing and had the best texture. The sauce was a little salty for me, but I still ate the entire meal so the saltiness did not deter me. We had the crepes and espresso mocha torta for dessert. Crepes were my personal favorite. Amazing prices too. I spent about $45-$50 for my meal, a coke, and splitting two desserts. Would recommend!

You had me at Chimay on tap!!

Tucked away in a small inlet of businesses right off Mill Avenue. The ambiance is old luxury with a slight modern vibe. We arrived right in mid-afternoon on the weekend. The dining room was surprisingly empty. We headed to the bar where another couple were enjoying libations and conversation with one of the bartenders. Another bartender was prepping for the next service and while we made eye contact, neither staff member made an immediate effort to approach us. Upon finally being greeted, we ordered a cocktail - delicious - and a Chimay on draft! Presentation of the Cucumbersome was fitting for the atmosphere and Chimay on tap is a HUGE plus! Definitely worth returning, or so we thought at that moment. As we were waiting for other folks to partake in an event nearby, we asked for our check promptly so as to not have to wait to get the staff attention as they were in the midst of prepping. I provided my credit card and waited for the receipt to tip and pay. That's when the surprise came in... Not previously disclosed, there was an additional 2% "credit card" fee added to the final bill. If I can afford to pay $15+ for a cocktail and around $12 for a pint of beer, an additional 2% isn't an issue. The hidden way it was charged was revolting. And I hate being nickel-and-dimed! Just add a freaking $0.50 or $1 to each drink and include it as an expense! The majority of folks will pay by CC. You are just aggravating us. Turned off enough that I will never recommend the business or return.

This place was fantastic and so cute. The environment felt upscale without being too much. We had lunch here the weekend of the iron man. We sat outside and played carts. Our waiter was 10/10. Attentive and lots of personality. I got the bruschetta at lunch and I order 3 of the normal tomato bruschettas. He said he went ahead and put it in as a dinner bruschetta because I would get more for the same price. So nice! My boyfriend got the lasagna. It looked really weird because it was orange but he really liked it and would recommend it.

Just a short walk from the Mill Ave. stop on the light rail, step inside CAFFE BOA (est. 1994) and be transported to a world of simple elegance: a spring of rosemary nestles in with your silverware, and fresh flowers look like they are posing for a still life in the restroom.Treat yourself to an elegant lunch with unique menu items like the butter lettuce salad or a pasta dish made with pasta made fresh daily. Here's an ex: Coniglio made with Nicky Farms free range and slow roasted rabbit, foraged mushrooms, thyme, and pecorino. Perfect. Just perfect. An attentive and informative server completed my mini vacation away from the ordinary so I left satisfied and refreshed. A chalkboard announced there is live jazz on Mondays from 6-9, but call to check for that and other possible performances.

We were setup in a separate dining area from the main dining room, which allowed for better conversation without added noise. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive the entire time we were there, which was a couple hours. The milk bread is an absolute must! It's so pillowy soft and the flaky sea salt perfectly compliments it. I ordered the Wise Decision cocktail, which was refreshing. For my entree, I had the shishito Caesar salad and was advised I could add a protein from their skewer selection of chicken, pork belly or oyster mushrooms. I asked the waitress about the chicken and she advised that they are smoked and will appear pink from that, so not to be alarmed, but are moist and really flavorful. While the filet was tempting (and what everyone else at my table ordered), I wanted something lighter. Thankfully I was not disappointed in my selection. The chicken was as delicious as described and could be cut with a fork. The Caesar salad was well dressed, but not soggy. Do I think it was worth the money to add the chicken? Not if I were paying, but since my company paid for it, I think it was worth it. This is a great spot for a date night or special occasion.

The restaurant and outdoor entertainment complex is huge and has a really fun, energetic vibe. According to the bartender, they have ping-pong, pickleball, and a big upstairs outdoor patio with amazing views of Tempe and the surrounding area. Azbel was a great server. I had the bistro steak and fries and the Szechuan lettuce wraps, and both were really good. Portions were generous. During late-night happy hour my total was about $55 for a main entrée, an appetizer, a cocktail, and tip, which felt like a great deal. I was pleasantly surprised that happy hour runs every day Monday through Sunday from 3-6 PM and again from 8 PM to close. I also checked out the event venue on site, and it looks like it would be a great place for a company party, corporate event, or group gathering. I'll definitely be returning in the near future.

As for the food, we had the Fish & Chips with a Mahi Mahi Slaw & Fries, the Ahi Poke Tacos which come in Wonton shells. Hot Honey and Sausage Pizza was great. The Barbacoa Nachos had all the right ingredients & the Double Smash Burger had only some "fancy sauce" on the plate. The Tempura Green Bean, can't remember who ordered, but were good with the chipotle ranch sauce. With me, I'm all about the cocktails, so I treated myself to both the Froze Margarita & the Chi Chi. They call them spiked slushes, I call them "heaven sent" during the Arizona Summer. All of the food was a hit for the table and my family understood why I suggested EP for lunch! I said our Server was "electric" and that's because they made our experience very enjoyable. We arrived in time for sunset, and it did not disappoint. Watching the sunset over the Phoenix skyline made for a beautiful evening, and the restaurant itself has a unique atmosphere. We had a 7:30 reservation and were checked in right on time, we were seated outside, but there was very little shade, and unfortunately it was a hot, humid, and windy evening, so it wasn't the most comfortable dining experience. Our server, Sergio, was friendly, but we had to ask several times for water refills. One of the highlights before the meal was the complimentary bread service. The bread and butter were delicious, and the staff member who brought it out took the time to explain each item on the board which was a nice touch. The food was good. The 8 oz filet mignon was cooked perfectly and was the highlight of the meal, tender, flavorful, and worth ordering. We had enjoyed the desserts. The chocolate mousse was rich and creamy, and the Pavlova was light, fresh, and beautifully presented with berries. That said, the outdoor seating wasn't quite as relaxing as we expected. It was pretty windy the evening we visited, which made dining outside a little uncomfortable. The resort Pool is directly below the patio, and there happened to be a party going on, so there was quite a bit of noise. The restaurant also overlooks the freeway. Traffic wasn't heavy during our visit, but I imagine the road noise and air quality could be more noticeable during busier times. Overall, if you are looking for a scenic dinner with a memorable sunset, top of the rock is worth visiting. My girlfriend loved the views, but if I'm being honest, I was a bit underwhelmed. I'm from San Diego and I've seen far better. A view overlooking the freeway just isn't all that impressive to me personally. Still, I've passed this place on the freeway so many times and always wondered about it, so it felt special to finally check it off the list. We arrived about 10 minutes late, and I'll say the host that greeted us was a bit rude. We waited a few minutes before he took us back to our table. I will say there's an odd smell when you first walked in and I'm grateful that we sat outside. Once we sat down though, our waitress was attentive the entire night. We started with the charcuterie board, which honestly felt a little basic to me. The smoked Gouda was fine, but I would've preferred something sharper like an aged Gouda, and a more thoughtfully curated spread overall. The meats were okay, nothing that really stood out. On the drinks side, I tried two. The berry limeade was absolutely delicious, highly recommend that one! The traditional margarita though? Not it. Way too sweet for my taste. I don't think most Americans really know what a true margarita is supposed to be. I was hoping for something less sweet and more authentic. It is what it is, I drank it anyway (more because of the price than anything). But the entrées? Spot on. My girlfriend got the Miso Glazed Sea Bass served over potato purée with asparagus and a citrus beurre blanc. She said it was delicious. I had the Seasonal Ravioli with grana padano, white truffle oil, and added wild mushrooms on top. Incredible flavor, did not disappoint. I will say though, the ravioli plating wasn't all that appetizing. The sauce color came off bland and boring, and a little garnish like some micro greens on top could've gone a long way to elevate it. For a place like this (and the price), I expect the plating to be just as on point as the flavor. I'd say the same for the table setting, lighting and cleanliness of the table, I'd really rate that C level. Our waitress surprised us with complimentary champagne for the birthday, which was such a sweet touch. No clue what it was, but it was so good she ordered a second glass. They also brought us a small dessert that said Happy 40th Birthday for my girlfriend, which was really thoughtful. And the sunset? That part was genuinely beautiful. We got some great photos. All in all, a decent experience overall. It's pricey, and not somewhere I'd rush back to, but for a special occasion every now and then? Worth it to my GF and that's all that matters at the end of the day because it was her birthday celebration.

Came for lunch because the last time they gave us a coupon for $5 off. Tried the nachos…read moretoday......... And the QUAD MELT which seems to be every one's favorite. It was so good we ordered another one, and then we ordered one to go for our son. Nachos were very good I recommend adding chicken. *OH MY LAWDY THE SWEET POTATO FRIES ARE 100% the BEST I've ever had anywhere. They are sooooooooo sooooooo good! Might come back just for the sweet potato fries. *I did find out today that they use seed oils for their food. So while it is top notch and delicious and unique, it'll probably be avoidable for us in the future.

I will start by saying I usually love this place, but today it was not so perfect…read more.. I ordered the Perfectly Grilled Cheese with sweet potato fries as the side. The bread on the sandwich was tough, the bacon bits were chewy, hard knots, and the sandwich was dry overall. The sweet potato fries were greasy and tough and not hot. Nothing about what I ordered today was good with the exception of the appetizer, which was the Crisp Korean Brussels and Cauliflower. It was hot, delicious and plentiful so I did not go hungry. Our server was friendly and prompt. He was very quick to refill my drink. I will say that both my chair and our table rocked terribly, so was not very comfortable. Hoping for a better experience on my next visit.
