I've been coming here since college in the 90s. Used to be a hole in the wall on Mill but now it is situated in a cool building down toward the mill. Great date night place!! You have to try that agnolotti boa, mushroom filled ravioli! My favorite. They offer to put extras such as chicken on the side but I say don't even bother and enjoy the pasta. I've also had the voodoo penne which is also superb. All the pasta is hand made daily. The owner is awesome and he travels the world to find the best ideas in culinary Practice. I really do not understand why anyone would give any review besides five stars. Tempe has some good restaurants but this is definitely the classiest. As a ASU alum, the campus is always changing and I hope this place never gets pushed out because of the growth. Enjoy!! read more

We found this little gem on accident back in Dec 2022. It was an absolute pleasure and the food and wait staff were just lovely. The ambiance is so beautiful and it is the perfect little place to either sit outside or dine in. We have now been there twice. It's a must try. The lasagna is wonderful and the caprese salad dressed just right. Also try the polenta dish which was on their brunch menu. I don't remember if it's on the dinner menu ??? But it delish. I would say the biggest downside to this restaurant is that it is in downtown Tempe which is particularly annoying for myself to go with, but nonetheless our server were very kind and helpful which made the experience much more enjoyable. I came here with a group of friends for my friend birthday during weekend brunch hours and I got to enjoy a variety of different dishes they had to offer. Personally for myself I had ordered a Polenta Bowl which was okay it wasn't my favorite. The Steak and Eggs were definitely a unique experience personally I thought the eggs were extremely rich due to their addition of cream cheese, but definitely not bad. My personal favorite were the Breakfast Burger and the amount of fries they give you is SO MUCH! For dessert we got the Tiramisu which I thought fell below all of our expectation. Cannoli were average nothing special, but the Expresso Mocha Torta was definitely the best thing I had at the resturant. The only thing is that it is extremely chocolaty so after eating half I got tired of eating it other than it was so good. read more

I had a surprisingly good experience. They have Coke Zero instead of regular diet which was the one pitfall. Our waitress forgot about us briefly but that was probably because we sat outside. I had a gazpacho shrimp soup and their version of a Cuban. Both good. I particularly enjoyed the soup. I have had better Cuban but they are tough to find. Everyone has their opinion of the proper way to make it. Kind of like NY vs Chicago pizza. Generally I like both. read more

My family raves about Caffe Boa all the time so I finally had to check it out while I was in town. First off, I love how hidden it is amidst a college town. The patio seating is so beautiful with tons of greenery and the indoor seating is perfect for happy hour or a romantic date night. We decided to take advantage of happy hour and grabbed many drinks in that time. My favorite was the Black Anastasia - omg the strawberry, balsamic, and basil all paired soooo well together. I was also pumped to see that they carry a bunch of low intervention, natural wines so of course I had to get a bottle. For dinner, we ordered gnocchi and chicken parm and mmmm it was so delicious. The staff was very friendly and worked efficiently to get our stuff out to us, despite being super busy. I will definitely be back when I'm in town next! read more

Love the food and the ambience, few places in Tempe where you can go as an adult for dinner. But one bartender serving a large bar area and the entire dining room is not workable. I sat for 15 minutes before I could even order a drink and then I made sure to order everything so as not to sit there for hours. Disappointing and the wine was served far too warm, even for a red. We're at 40 minutes and counting, no food, just a glass of wine. Have a show tonight, thought 1.5 hours was plenty of time but might not be. Here we sit at 45 minutes, ordered an app and an entree - no shishito peppers, they do take sooooo long to cook. No doubt it will all come out together. And guy down the bar who came in after me, like waaaaay after me, also just got served. Wtf?!?! And bartender has not come over to check on me even once, it's been me flagging down food runners. Couple next to me say it took an hour to get their pasta, which they say is undercooked, and yet random guy at bar gets his in like 10 minutes flat. Whoever is managing the kitchen is not doing well tonight. Super disappointing experience tonight. Bartender just dropped the check saying sorry again, you never apologized the first time! read more

I went there for happy hour because I love their corn appetizer, and they have a nice selection of wine. However, the bartender spent all of his time, talking to a coworkers about his work hours, looking at photos of Girls on his phone. I was never asked if I wanted anything more to eat or anything else to drink. I was upset I told them I was upset and he said I apologize. He said can I make it up to you and I said no I didn't come in here for a discount. I came in here for some good food and good service. I left upset and I did not leave a tip. This has always been a haven of mediterranean love in the middle of mill avenue crazy fun. The wine and bread are always perfect, but the charcuterie and the pastas and the rest of the meal are delicious as well. I LOVE their desserts too, but they do run out - especially of the tiramisu. I would try the butternut squash ravioli. My only 'concern' would be for families and children since it's not fast food and there can be longer waits - with staffing, covid, whatever, it's best for adults and special occassions are perfect here. read more

I could not sing higher praises for this place. The ambiance is warm and inviting, the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the food and drinks are not only affordable, but delicious and well made. I have a couple of really inconvenient food allergies, and every staff I've had the pleasure of working with has been incredibly helpful and conscious in helping make a tasty choice. They also all explain answers to questions in a friendly but informative way, and are so attentive and fun. I have been frequenting this place lately, as their safety measures and commitment to keeping their staff and customers healthy are very comforting to me, even with to-go orders. I don't think I'll be going anywhere else next time I need some Ravioli Zucca (this is one of my new-found, go-to orders and I couldn't recommend it more!!). read more

Great place for a date night or even a business lunch or dinner. They have a semi private room / Piccolo room- that seats up to 12 (even though their website says 15- it's 12). It's a rustic room with 3 walls of rustic wood and one wall all windows that blocks the restaurant noise. Food is amazing. Meat and cheese board is exceptional. Found this place by mistake, but it turned out to be such an incredible experience! Service and staff are so welcoming...cappuccino is delicious and is not even that expensive ($4)...I had two of those! The inside is well decorated with wood tables and display cabinets full of wine. For being Sunday on a rush hour, it wasn't busy. But this way I appreciated even more cause I really dislike the wait time for food. The menu is awesome! I was told the owner is Croatian but many of the dishes on the lunch and dinner menu are written in Italian...what a treat!! Food also deserves 5 stars! I had the polenta bowl and my friend had the Belgian waffles. Both very good. If I can really be finicky, my polenta bowl was overpowered with parsley, but other than that, everything was impeccable! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because of the drastically long wait to get out food and the portion size for my fiancé's penne pasta. We both got the Voodoo sauce but I substituted the penne with fettuccine noodles and it was one of the best pastas I've tasted from a restaurant. So authentic and fresh. I had to give him some of mine because he didn't get much at all and he doesn't have the largest appetite. I've been here 4 times already and everytime has been super amazing but the most recent time has been the absolute best!! all of these pastas were so F-ing delicious. THE VOODOO PASTA WAS SO FLAVORFUL it was my order of course. The ravioli zucca is butternut squash and more of an oil based pasta while voodoo and fettuccine were sauce based. They were all super good though. Voodoo pasta has more of a meaty flavor of course and fettuccine was perfect for a lighter pasta, the chemistry in the ravioli was mind blowing, you could really taste the acidity and sweetness at the same time and that was definitely very yummy if you have a good palette and refined taste. It was a really great day to be there to celebrate my sisters birthday. the waiter was super nice and even the icecream was the most delicious we've ever had!!! read more

Took my Grandsons to Cafe Boa for our pre-Christmas dinner and got lost called and one of the staff guided me on the phone until we arrived. Our waiter was so accommodating to the specific requests my boys had even when a few items were not on the menu. The food was amazing and the atmosphere warm and inviting. Our server Ryan was the best part of the visit but that's not to down play the food! Cheese board with: Butter Pecan- very smooth. A dessert cheese but not overwhelmingly sweet Straticella- SO good. Very smooth and creamy Prosciutto- great flavor. Not too salty or chewy Market Fish was the Halibut and well done. Not cooked to order.. a little dry but still tasty. Tiramisu was probably the BEST I've had. So creamy. Soft. The lady fingers were so soft and absorbed the juice but to not the point of squishy. I wish it was diet friendly lol! After being asked to leave from Rigatoni's's because they did not like my dog on the patio, I remembered this wonderful hidden gem. They welcomed my dog and my friends and I. My 110 pound German Shepherd is better behaved than most kids. Alex, our server, was extremely personable and friendly. He brought a pitcher of water for Duke's water bowl, and every server stopped by to pet him, as did most guests. The food is amazing, as it is there very generous, happy hour. The steak medallions are not to be missed. However, Alex suggested the fillet as medallions are smaller and tend to be more well prepared than the entire steak. Same price, same weight. Thank you, Alex! Take your pic of sauces for the pasta you choose for your side! The pesto cream is orgasmic. Thank you folks for an amazing evening at a very reasonable price. read more

We had an extremely disappointing evening. Guess that is why I haven't been back for 10 years. Started off when we asked the hostess to seat us in a quieter place. There is a room with a lower ceiling and some walls that would have blocked some of the noise. She told us that room was actually noisier because the sound came through the doors. I was with professional singers and they know something about acoustics and this was not true. The server came to the table to introduce herself and immediately left without asking if we wanted anything. We wanted a bottle of wine and it took some time before she came back. In the meantime she was walking between a room (kitchen?) and the a place near the bar carrying clean dishes. She finally came back and we ordered. It took 10 minutes for her to return with the drinks. Then we waited to order. When asking her questions about the food her answer was quick and not that helpful. She left without taking our order. When we finally were allowed to order, the food arrived in a timely manner. It is not that this woman was unfriendly but she was cold and clipped with us but not with a table next to us. The meal was fine but the service was so bad we will never go back. When the check arrived, the wine we ordered was priced $10 higher than on the wine list. That was changed but she said they would not change the fact that adding salmon to a dish that the menu listed for $10 but the bill said $13. The accountant at the table told her, fine. It would be taken out of her tip. It was changed. We tipped well even though this server was inferior. read more

The margarita flatbread was a disappointment. it was going doughie, but slightly burned on the bottom, and had way too much sauce, and no flavor. We were one of the first in before a Gammage matinee. Took 1/2 hour to get appetizers and 40 minutes for the meal. Heirloom tomatoes were way over ripened and probably shouldn't have been used. We went in for lunch and ordered 2 beers, no problem. There was a young man in training with Pretty Girl helping him. We received the beers and ordered the caprese salad. It was just fair. She came back and told us the specials of the day. Later, they came back to take our order. We ordered one special and the gnocchi on the menu. 20 minutes later, she comes back and tells us they are out of the special and the gnocchi. This was at 1:45 in the afternoon. So we ended up splitting a concoction made up similar to the special. I had to get up to find someone to give us our bill. Then we received it without the breakdown. I had to get up to get it. Then we were charged for the special that they were out of. Luckily, we had Zack handling our credit that was charged. Never saw Pretty Girl again. We should have left when they were OUT of everything in the middle of the afternoon. No apology or nothing. Will never go back. read more

I can safely say that after graduating from ASU I'm never tempted to go Mill Avenue, of course back then we trolled the street looking for cheap drinks instead of a good meal like today. We decided on Boa for brunch (it had probably been 15 years since I was there) service was very good, efficient and prompt and we got a table right away. They have a lot of good cocktails including a small "historic" section so if you want an old fashion at noon you can certainly have it (and I did) FOOD when in doubt just order everything that looks good. Waffle with wheat flour, hemp and chia seeds I was a little apprehensive but it tasted fantastic. Huevos Rancheros, great eggs and guacamole, it had chorizo on it but I removed most of mine just not a huge chorizo person. Pasta frittata.....pasta and eggs? How can they go together? OH WOW they do, it initially looked like the eggs were way too overdone but I think it was the cooked pasta what a fantastic dish! Finally we wanted a little Italian something or other so we ordered the lasagna it was fantastic! Definitely tasted homemade, three meat bolognese was fantastic! CON parking on Mill stinks, find a garage or meter better yet Uber or Lyft! Save yourself a headache! read more

Had dinner here Friday night - great service and great food! Wine list not the best, need more "house" wine pricing and selection.

This has been one of my favorite go-to places for lunch. The service is always spot-on, and for some reason is never crowded. This time of year, I love their vine-covered patio. On occasion, the music can be a little loud for business conversation, but they generally accommodate our request to lighten it a bit. The food is amazing. I try not to fall into a rut, but I love, love, love their lunch special - which is 1/2 salad and 1/2 pasta or panini. I love their gnocchi (lovely, light pillows of yumminess); their lasagna (cheesy heaven); their raviolis are amazing, especially the butternut squash. They have a huge assortment of salads, yet I constantly choose the SoCal Love - butter lettuce, chicken, sprouts, and avocado with a lovely light dressing. It perfectly compliments the pasta. The one challenge I have every time I go - some of the ingredients and cooking methods are words I've never heard (and I used to think I was a foodie). It never fails that I have to use Siri to look up words from the menu just to make sure I'm not surprised or embarrassed! Please tell me I'm not the only one. I'm nor sure why I never think of this restaurant for dinner - but I'm going to try that soon! read more
