Okay, so this is saying a lot coming from me . . . I am an Ocean City girl through and through! Been coming here since I was literally age 5 with my very beloved, departed grandparents (God rest their souls). I felt like getting away last night, so my son and I took the almost hour ride to OC. There were literally only four stores on the boardwalk open! Fudge Kitchen was one of them :) We had a fun time perusing the store. The one male employee there was super nice. I got some (wowee fresh!) Swedish fish; my son, cashew bark (thickest I've ever seen) and we got some Macaroons for my daughter who stayed back. Although I felt like I was "cheating" on Shriver's (a family tradition that started with my aforementioned grandparents), I must say that everything we had was yummy, plus the store was very clean and organized. read more

We sampled a variety of freshly made fudges including sea salt caramel, vanilla, Oreo, and mint. The fudge here is softer and pan-prepared, which is quite different from the loaf-style Mackinac Island fudge I'm used to (my personal gold standard). That said, it was still delicious, and the flavor selection made for a fun tasting experience. The sea salt caramel was probably the standout for me. The shop itself has that pure Ocean City boardwalk charm, an old-school candy store with a wide range of sweets, some clearly made in-house, alongside nostalgic classic candies. It's the kind of place where you just want to linger and explore. Staff were excellent, very friendly and welcoming. We were with our oldest, just browsing and tasting together, and it made for a memorable little stop. Highly recommend. This is a must-hit for anyone walking the boards in OC. We just bought this fudge. It was disgusting. Like it tasted stale, no flavor. Never going back.

We decided to stop in after a long day walking around the boardwalk. The fudge and taffy were both fresh and delicious. The prices are a little bit on the high side but everything we got was good quality. Aside from fudge they also have a bunch of novelties like bubble gum cigarettes (complete with powdered sugar 'smoke' puff) and some other candy from when I was a kid that I haven't seen in forever. I'm not allowed to eat sugar anymore : ( so you can imagine how excited I was to find a great selection of sugar free candy when picking up some goodies for Christmas. Who doesn't like nice fresh fudge and taffy. I like standing there mesmerized in a near trace watching them make all the delicious treats. They offer samples if you are having a hard time deciding which treat you would like. The staff is friendly and very charismatic. I would give absolutely no stars if I could. The most ignorant staff I've ever encountered in my life. My 8 year old was dying to go in and pick out candy. We had a few gift cards so we went in and he picked out 2 things (which were extremely marked up!) and went to pay only to be met with "we can't take this" I was confused because I handed her a fudge Kitchen gift card, purchased at that location. I told her it was a gift card and asked why and she went to get a manager-- who was hands down the rudest manager I have ever encountered in my life-- he proceeded to tell us they no longer accepted gift cards, that they were under new owners. I told him that was unacceptable as we paid money for them and should be able to use them. He asked me how much was on it and I said I didn't know because we have a few of them and I was unsure what the balance was, so I explained that when you rang it up and swiped the card you would know. He told us that the new system didn't take gift cards. Then he asked again about the balance. He told me if I knew the balance then he could take the card. WHICH MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. You can't run it, so if I know the balance, you're just going to take my word for it? I was irate at this point not only because of how absurd the situation was but because of how ignorant the entire staff was. Not a single apology or any politeness to be had. They were not at all understanding and didn't care that my 8 year old just wanted come gum and licorice. While all this was happening, an older lady also working there began to talk about us to customers placing their order. She was extremely ignorant and had no place in the situation. We have about 5 gift cards in our possession all of which cannot be used because they can't take them. I wouldn't have even gone in there if it weren't for having gift cards. Their fudge is mediocre and highly overrated. And I've been hearing for over 30 years about their "special" of two pound of fudge get a box of salt water taffy free it's not a special. You've had the same "special" forever. No one cares. The "free" taffy is trash. Go to Shrivers. After all was said and done we called and were told they could add $15 to each gift card so we could go back in and use them-- which still didn't make any sense to me. I refused because I could be losing money since we didn't know the balance on the cards. There isn't a phone number on the cards to call for a balance, just a website that wouldn't load no matter how many times I tried. The gift cards were from last year and the year before. We are given them every single Christmas so my children can use them on our annual family vacation. I do not recommend this location whatsoever. Had I been met with politeness, I may have reacted better. It's insane to me that you can sell gift cards to people and then tell them they can't use it because you can't run it BUT if they know the balance then okay we can take it. A sincere, "I'm so sorry but let's see what we can do" would have been a way better way to handle the situation. Oh and when I casually mentioned to someone else in my party that I didn't even like their fudge, the rude manager (black hair, accent) said "then why are you in here??" There are lots of places to buy fudge on the Boardwalk, but trust someone who goes to OC all the time... accept no imitations and buy your fudge from "The Fudge Kitchen." It's the only place with copper kettles in the window. Sometimes you can watch them make it in the window. They are almost always giving out free samples. One taste and you will see why any other fudge is a waste of time. The fudge is totally creamy without any graininess at all (lots of pure cream!) Other traditional favorites are molasses paddles, taffies, marzipan, chocolate covered strawberries, pectin squares, chocolates and more! I will never, EVER buy fudge anywhere else. Even in winter, when the urge for fudge strikes, I drive down the shore to the Fudge kitchen to get my fix. Everyone has their favorites, Ocean City New Jersey has been our local beach destination since we were kids. When we are there we only purchase fudge at Fudge Kitchen. We have tried all the candy shops in OCNJ over the years and always return to Fudge Kitchen for the well, fudge. Why? You can watch them make it. They have a variety of flavors and add seasonal favorites so the menu changes. The fudge is creamy, smooth, it melts on the tongue. All the flavors are distinct and delicious. This time we enjoyed Cherry Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Nut, and Cookies and Cream. 1/2 pound (4 pieces), so sweet that we just eat a little and have some to take home. (Of course we ate our way through the boardwalk so we were a little full to start). Fudge Kitchen is a long standing tradition for many families. Very yummy fudge! We popped in for a sampling of fudge and Irish Potatoes (for those who don't know, an Irish Potato is a coconut, cinnamon cream ball of goodness. Who doesn't love fudge? They offer free samples year round however it always has nuts which although I do not have an allergy to them I don't like many nuts and definitely not in my fudge. The woman who waited on us was nice and gave me a sample of nut free fudge and it was smooth, rich and wonderful. The candy & fudge is always delicious! But this time, I did not buy, and will not, due to the lack of customer service...I questioned a candy (if the carmel filling was chewy or smooth), and the employee did not know (which is fine), but rather than asking another employee that may be more knowledgeable, I was told to "buy it and try it!" Which I probally would have done if she was the slightest bit nice about it...but I just had some dental work done and can't have anything too chewy...this was very disappointing. This is the fudge to get. They have locations throughout the county and they've been in business a long time for a reason. The fudge. Having said that, forget their salt water taffy. It's no different than the stuff you can get at any Interstate rest stop, and probably made by the same company. Terrible and flavorless, with an "old" taste. This is my place for fudge in Ocean City, NJ! I will say Shriver's shop is bigger, and the taffy machines are amazing to watch, but if it's fudge or molasses pops, it's the fudge kitchen for me everytime! I love going back year after year and hearing the same thing from the seasonal employees...Today we have a special, if you buy 2 lbs of our creamy fudge you get a free box of salt water taffy...They seem to have this special every day, every year! Its only an 8oz box of taffy, but it's free! Fudge is about 11 dollars a pound right now...but do yourself a favor and stop in and ask them for a coupon, or buy something cheap if you must to get the coupon...the coupon is good for 1$ off per pound of fudge... They have a lovely variety of flavors available, including some seasonal flavors and even make the fudge in the front of the store, right in the window. You can ask for a sample and they are happy to provide! This store is a bit "small" compared to Shriver's...a couple baby carriages and a family or 2 with kids and this place is packed! They have plenty of employees tho (Hi Grandma Joan!) and work thru the lines quickly. Earlier this year I sampled every Molasses pop on the boardwalk...Shocked to find out some of them are actually made in Philly and shipped to NJ! I will check my wrapper and let you know where the Fudge Kitchen's came from...But did want to point out that the Molasses pops at the Fudge Kitchen cost about 2 times as much as other pops on the boardwalk...they also weigh about twice as much, so well worth the price. Don't forget your coupon before you load up on the way out of OCNJ! Bring a cooler with some ice packs if you plan on leaving it in a HOT car for a couple hours! Note: Fudge Kitchen wrapper has no info on it, making me think they made them in store...I'll find out next week when I'm back! Truth be told I've never really had bad fudge. However, Fudge Kitchen's fudge is superior to all other places on the boardwalk. It's so fresh and creamy and they offer a ton of flavors and seasonal flavors too! The best part by far is the fact that they'll allow you to sample their Chocolate and Vanilla Nut fudge for free! My favorite flavors are the Rocky Road and the Snickers Peanut Butter. Their prices are typical for the boardwalk but they always give you a coupon for $1 off your next visit. We were gifted a large portion of most excellent fudge and another modest portion of Old Fashion Long Salt Water Taffy. The fudge rocked my socks right off. The salt water taffy is good, but it pales in comparison to the fudge. And among the fudge selections, the maple fudge was the hands-down best. I must have more. Just fantastic. read more

This shop looks old school, and I wasn't sure I even wanted to go because I already tried Steels Fudge but this place is MUCH better. Steels was hard and overly sweet in comparison. I got the chocolate caramel and dark chocolate chunk and both were soft and fresh. The caramel one had delicious big salt crystals in it. So many quality flavors, extremely courteous and helpful staff, and they love throwing you coupons. Fudge is made on-site at this family-owned and operated business, and like others attest, one taste and you'll fall in love with this classic fudge and candy shop. Hands down the best fudge ever!!!!! It doesn't even compare to any other fudge shop. I buy a big box and throw it in the freezer to eat during the year, vanilla walnut in my favorite.
