I was so happy with our potted tree. The pickup window was pretty long, so be prepared to have the tree on your porch for several days. Also, be prepared to order the tree during their ordering window, receive it during their drop off window, which may be less early than you normally put up your tree...and that it could be an inch or two taller than you thought. Love the premise of this business but agree with another reviewer that execution is lacking. We used TOPCTC about 3 years ago, everything was {seemingly} great (despite a slight hiccup in delivery date). Then 2 years ago (pre-COVID), we ordered a tree and just before delivery window, received a call and was told that we would be charged an extra $25 because of delivery challenges to our place the year prior (because we live in a gated community and they claimed we lived in a 2-story apartment because they looked at our address on Google earth). I argued that those things were not true and I shouldn't have to pay an extra $25 without any other communication from the previous year. The owner ended up cancelling our order 10 days before Christmas (so we had to scramble to find a tree). Also, he promised a refund of the money paid after the holidays - I reached out several times in January and February of 2020 and got no reply. Then COVID hit and I just stopped pursuing it. Apparently they will now only deliver to places deemed "easy to deliver to" and it can be arbitrary depending on the owners whim. Again, the premise is good and we loved our tree the first year we did it, however I'm sorry to say the poor communication and terrible customer service is not worth the headache or cost. read more

I highly recommend people in condos DO NOT consider this service. If you live in a house and can have your tree delivered and picked up on your front step, great. But if you live in a downtown condo like I do, don't even think about it. My experience was not enjoyable. From paying on paypal and then going DAYS until I heard something from the owner (I was convinced I was out $95) to the delivery fiasco, the whole thing sucked. (I sound so bah-humbug....I'm not. I love Christmas, I just really want this GD tree gone.) We were told our tree would be delivered on a Friday evening, which seemed great. My husband and I would both be home from work to receive the tree and get the guy into the building. What really happened? 2 days prior to the scheduled delivery, someone showed up to deliver the tree in the middle of the day, while I was in NYC and my husband was at work. We got a call from our front desk and my husband ran home to find the tree in the hallway of our condo. When I emailed John to let him know that was a huge hassle and I wanted to schedule a real window of time for the pickup, he said no problem. Well, here I am, January 2nd and I've attempted to schedule a pickup twice to no avail. I have no faith that he's actually going to get the tree at a time that works for us. I felt like a good citizen getting a tree that could be planted again, but in reality, I'll probably end up dragging it down to the dumpsters for pickup with the rest of the tress in my building. We had a great experience with the Original Living Christmas Tree company. They deliver, were fast, responsive, and the tree smelled amazing!!! It's potted, after all! I also love the fact that the tree is replanted and can be saved. No trees chopped down just for a couple of weeks, which always breaks my heart! It is true that this service is much easier if you live in a house, but it also works in an apartment. The tree was fine, but dealing with the company was a nightmare from start to finish. The website is horrendous and nonsensical but I chalked it up to be "quirky" and continued with my order anyway. A few days later, my order was canceled. I sent an email asking why and they stated "technical difficulties" and my order was reinstated. The tree was delivered late, but was of fine quality and we enjoyed decorating and caring for it. Our instructions were to leave it outside on Jan 2nd for pickup on January 3rd. Days came and went with a bare potted tree on our porch, blowing over in the wind, with no communication from the owners about pickup. Eventually, the tree disappeared one day. Two months later, I get an email from the owner saying I never paid and that I need to provide "proof of my finances" to him and I needed to pay by an arbitrarily set date. A day later, another, angrier email demanding the same. A day after that (on a Saturday), he called me twice in a row, leaving a voicemail the second time. Two days after that, THIS email, completely unprofessional and borderline threatening: "hi tomoro Feb 20th is the date when i need to be paid. Everybody pays every year. There are lots of reasons why i should not be paid- it was a long time ago last year, you're busy, john is a bad communicator, this has taken enough of your time, you doubt if you owe me money, why didn't john handle it right in the first place, john isn't doing business well, you tried to handle this in December and so you're good, etcetera... There's one reason why john will be paid- is fair for you to pay me because i did the good enviro micro business work and so should not, i will not, lose money, significant amount of money, hundreds of dollars, people who owe me money are part of a pattern that adds up. Great idea but poor execution. Tree delivery was scheduled for December 12, but no tree was delivered to us. The company has not responded to emails or face book messages, and they've taken their phone number down from the website so there is no other way to contact them. I really want to support local and renewable companies, but unfortunately this isn't a business that's worth supporting. read more

I had a terrible experience with this company this year, and a so-so experience two years ago. Let's talk about this year. Long story short: tree delivered late, picked up late, absolutely zero communication from the company, and utter disrespect for customers. I don't normally write negative reviews, but these guys earned it. So my wife signed up for the early-bird special, ordering in October at a discount. She paid using PayPal (this will become significant later). A few days before the agreed upon delivery time came in late December, the company emailed us and said they had problems due to frozen ground, and did we actually need the tree on the day they'd promised us, or could they wait three days? We promptly replied that yes, we did need it on the promised day (we had family coming into town). We heard nothing back. The tree did not arrive on the day they promised, though I stayed home all day waiting for it. So we sent them an email asking what was up. There was no answer. So we waited the extra three days, and still -- no tree (and again, I stayed around all day waiting for it then). That's when we sent another email asking for our money back, and looked at the timing of this whole scheme. Christmas was just a few days away. It turns out that when you order something on PayPal, you have a limited time to get your money back from them -- and that time had passed well before Christmas rolled around. We had no options for a refund, and the company was completely silent. We finally got the tree four days late (it just appeared on the porch one day), and the company never responded to any emails at all. The tree was dry and a bit lopsided, but an okay tree I suppose. It's not what I would have picked, if I could have looked at the available stock. The company also failed to pick up the tree when they promised. We went through this whole process to take the tree down in time for their prescribed pickup date, only to have it sit on our porch for over a week. The company emailed the day it was supposed to pick up, saying there was another delay. So -- if we had known that in advance, we would've had our tree in our house longer. But no, communication is not a priority here. Oh yeah, and when the guy came to pick up the tree, he slammed it around down my steps and damaged the porch. (I went out and said hello to him, and he said "Happy new year!" as he literally ran off to his truck.) Totally bizarre. I then looked down and saw that he'd scraped the paint off my front porch using his dolly. So: Communication - F Delivery/Pick on Time - F Quality of Service (meaning, not messing up my porch and front steps) - D Pricing - B (frankly this is their strong suit) Tree Quality - C I will never buy from this company again, and I strongly encourage you to think twice before you plop down your money. I worked for this company this last year in December of 2018. Everything was going fine at first, we delivered trees to customers and then John the owner asked me to be a secretary for him to help take care of some of the route planning and his personal errands! I worked long hours into the early morning about 1am-2am after working all day dropping off trees. There was supposed to be a Christmas party for all the workers as a way to say thank you and mind you everyone was told where it would be held and what date and time. After two days of runnng around in my own personal vehicle on my own gas he didn't pay me for my time for working or for my gas for runnng his errands, and then completely changed where the Christmas party was being held to try to avoid me and not pay me! He wouldn't answer his phone or anything! I had to contact another employee to give me the details about where it was being held so I could approach him to pay me what he owed me for working for him, and extra expenses that came out of my pocket. He avoided me for days. I was in an accident and unable to make it to work and without a phone was unable to contact him for a day. Because of this he completely ignored me and moved the party so I wouldn't know where it was so he could avoid me and not pay me. I found out where he moved the party to and I showed up as he was walking in the door and demanded to be paid. He paid for some of my hours not all of them and still owes me over $60 for my gas for running his personal errands and picking up and dropping off other employees who didn't have transportation! Do not work for this guy and do not order from this company!!! His practices are completely ridiculous and if a customer disagrees on any level he will cancel your order and still order you to pay, on top of a late tree or no tree at all. He does sloppy work with the trees and shorts his employees also. He also threatened all of the employees that if they told me where the party was he wouldn't pay them or let them come to it because he didn't want to pay me! It was so bad that he withheld money from employees to come to the party to get paid, it was his way of having something over thm and his excuse was he wanted to make sure people came to the party! Absolutely ridiculous! Eventually someone told me where it was because I had to lie and call under a different name saying I was another employee to get the location of the party to be paid somewhat of what he owes me. I have since then Requested payment through cash apps multiple times and he ignores the payment and won't talk to me! Completely unprofessional do not do business with this man, he is a scammer and a bad guy. Anything to make his dollar whether it screws other people over or not!!! Mind you I'm a single mother and worked from 8am-10pm and other days from 10am-2am and he still did this to me after I gave him my best and did everything he asked and went above and beyond for him! read more

I have used this company for the last three Christmases. I can honestly say that having a tree from TOPCTC is a highlight of my holiday season. Delivery and pick up have always been prompt. The trees are lovely. The price is a bargain. I look forward to choosing my tree every year and I love the surprise of seeing what it looks like in person. I noticed that there are quite a few negative reviews on this site. I also noticed that the owner has responded to some of the feedback both by writing responses on Yelp and by altering his business practices. Specifically, he no longer delivers to apartments or condos with secure main entrances/doors. This is a wise decision on his part because it seems like some of the negative reviews are coming from people in apartments and condos. If you order from TOPCTC, it's best that you not have a specific schedule in mind for tree delivery. If your family is coming into town and you need a tree by a certain date and kids will be heartbroken if they don't have their tree by a specific date, you should probably not use this company. It you need to be at the house when they deliver, you probably shouldn't use this company. And if you absolutely must have your tree removed from your property by a certain date, look elsewhere for a tree. But if your Christmas spirit is more laid back, TOPCTC is a perfect fit for you! read more

We ordered a tree pretty early in the season Christmas 2008. The tree was supposed to be delivered to our house and after numerous calls and emails did not receive the tree. 5 days before Christmas we did not receive the tree and instead received a sob story from the owner about how the trees were frozen and so they could not be delivered and how he was completely broke and could not refund us the $90 for the tree at the time. He did say he would eventually give us back our money if some possible loan came through from a friend. Giving him the benefit of the doubt we decided to wait on the refund. After we moved out of state in 2009 we sent him a few emails asking him to send us our refund. It is 12/2010 and still no refund. I feel the owner is dishonest and not to be trusted. He basically stole our money. We have three little children that were looking forward to decorating an environmentally friendly tree but instead was robbed of that opportunity. read more
