    Loaded baked potato with brisket
    Karen E.

If you want good BBQ in the RGV make sure you visit Willies. This place is so so so so so so delicious. They make the most scrumptious loaded baked potato (you can add brisket) & it is huge & very filling. They also have amazing brisket sandwiches. That's basically all I have had to eat here since every time I visit I just want to potato!! I haven't done dine in here post COVID pandemic, but prior inside has a very country/cabin vibe inside. Love it. They did open up a drive through to facilitate when picking up food. It's awesome!

Stuffed baked potato with all the toppings.

Whenever I would come to Alamo, Willie's is a favorite must go to place to eat at while we are visiting here. Now we have a winter residence here so of course one of the first places we just had to go eat at was Willie's. We dined in and we both had the stuffed baked potato with brisket and with all the toppings. We were not disappointed. While we were there we saw that they were now doing drive-up ordering and pick-up. Today I decided to try their drive up and take home one of their (usually) delicious baked potato. Sadly my experience with their take out /drive through pick up meal was very disappointing. I live maybe eight to ten minutes from their restaurant and when I started eating I found the bake potato very dry and the sour cream looked like cottage cheese. I was really looking forward to this meal and sadly I ended up only being able to eat about half of it and throwing the other half away. I will not let this stop me from eating there again but I'll most likely eat in next time. The below pictures show my meal.

    Brisket and 3 Sides

While visiting family, we decided to try this restaurant as we were on the search for the best BBQ. This place was definitely it! While ordering, the workers assisted us in recommending sides as there were many to choose from. I had the potato salad, macaroni and cheese, and the sweet potato mash, all were extremely delicious. My mother had the coleslaw, which was sweeter than what she was used to but still very delicious. We ate inside and the decor was historical while being tasteful. I noticed some dust on the lampshades but otherwise the dining area was very clean. Along with my sides, I got the moist brisket which was the best brisket I've ever had. No fat or char on the pieces, which made the meat easy to pull apart and eat. The bbq sauce was homemade and paired well with the meat. I will definitely be returning to this establishment! Keep up the good work!

Willie B's on today's order. Zoom in so you can see no rings and all the same color as if it was done in an oven.

Lately the loaded potatoe has lost it's touch. I've noticed food is bland, and the potatoes seem to be over cooked. Not my favorite.

The…read moreribs were my personal favorite but we got a little bit of everything and it was all individually it's own experience. Definitely tops a lot of other barbecue spots in Texas that also come with 2-3hr waiting times so having this in my hometown is awesome. It's pretty tightly packed in there especially during rush hour but having a full bustling house adds to the lovely feeling of eating Texas barbecue in this crazy heat. Wish I could have tried the mac and cheese but it always gives me a reason to come back!

Teddys BBQ: A Disappointing Experience Unworthy of the Top 50…read moreTeddys BBQ, a celebrated winner of the "Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ Awards," arrived with high expectations that were, unfortunately, decimated by the actual experience. Arriving at 11:10 AM, just after opening, we anticipated fresh, high-quality smoked meats and homemade sides. What we received was an uninspiring meal that leads me to question the legitimacy of its Top 50 status--and frankly, its place in the Top 100. This visit was a letdown, especially compared to the twelve other far superior BBQ joints we tasted this past week. The Meats: Misses and One Minor Hit The foundation of the barbecue here was weak, suggesting corner-cutting or, worse, reheating of old product. * Brisket: This was the biggest disappointment. The slice was terrible--dry, lacking juice, and with a bark that was chewy rather than crisp. It looked and tasted suspiciously like leftovers reheated from the day before, which is unacceptable minutes after opening. * Ribs: Nothing special here. They lacked the depth of smoke flavor and suffered from a distracting, undesirable "hammy" taste. There wasn't much meat on the bone, and the glaze was applied too lightly, failing to add any necessary sweetness or texture. * Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: This was the sole highlight of the meat offerings. It was a nice standard sausage with a good peppery snap to the casing and a satisfying ooze of cheddar cheese. It offered a nice, reliable counterpoint to the lackluster smoked proteins. Failed Opportunity: The Texas Twinkie The infamous Texas Twinkie completely missed the mark. While the basic concept of a bacon-wrapped, cream-cheese-stuffed jalapeño is sound, the execution here was poor. The filling was overwhelmingly cream cheese, which completely sucked the flavor out of the jalapeño and bacon. It was a great opportunity wasted by failing to include a bit of smoked brisket or chicken to give it complexity. Sides: Bland, Bland, Bland The sides tasted uninspired, suggesting they were prepared from a can or box rather than crafted from scratch--an unforgivable sin for a purported Top 50 establishment. * Creamed Corn: It was creamy but utterly bland. It needed significant elevation--perhaps charring the corn kernels or adding some diced jalapeño pieces for heat and brightness. * Mexican Rice: This was mushy and flavorless. It desperately lacked the savory depth and spice expected of Mexican rice. A small addition of pork or brisket trimmings would have provided necessary flavor and prevented it from tasting so generic. Dessert: An Unprofessional Finish The Grapefruit Pie was the final letdown. The filling tasted okay, but the crust was clearly store-bought. To be considered a Texas elite, every component should be homemade and excellent. This felt like an amateur concession. Final Verdict Overall, Teddys BBQ was profoundly uninspiring. Given that we arrived right after opening, expecting the freshest quality, and having recently toured 12 genuinely great BBQ places, this location falls far short. It simply does not belong in the Top 50, or even the Top 100. Teddys has a lot of room for improvement if it wants to justify its ranking.

We chose a seat & the waitress came over with menus, we asked a couple of questions regarding food/drink (tea, potato salad & brisket chili) items & was told she didn't eat/drink those things so had no opinion/knowledge. Needless to say we ordered a 1/2 lb of both brisket & beef sausage, potato salad & brisket chili & 2 unsweetened iced teas. The brisket was closer to a slow cooker pot roast than smoked brisket. The potato salad I'm pretty was Reser's potato salad from the premade section at Walmart. The brisket chili had burger meat rather than pieces of brisket but it tasted ok. The beef sausage was the best part of the meal but it was just ok. The tea was terrible & tasted old. Our waitress was lacking in customer service granted she was working the bar with maybe 2 people in the area. Will we go back probably not.
