Our first time trying Smokin' Moon BBQ & sorry to say it was just okay. Our visit was on a Friday afternoon (2 pm) there was only a couple of tables with customers so it was quiet with ladies soccer on the tv's. We chose a seat & the waitress came over with menus, we asked a couple of questions regarding food/drink (tea, potato salad & brisket chili) items & was told she didn't eat/drink those things so had no opinion/knowledge. Needless to say we ordered a 1/2 lb of both brisket & beef sausage, potato salad & brisket chili & 2 unsweetened iced teas. The brisket was closer to a slow cooker pot roast than smoked brisket. The potato salad I'm pretty was Reser's potato salad from the premade section at Walmart. The brisket chili had burger meat rather than pieces of brisket but it tasted ok. The beef sausage was the best part of the meal but it was just ok. The tea was terrible & tasted old. Our waitress was lacking in customer service granted she was working the bar with maybe 2 people in the area. Will we go back probably not. read more

Fun little place, can't wait to come back! I had the pulled pork nachos, absolutely delicious, and I loved their selection of sauces. My husband ended up getting a burger, he said it was really good but we definitely want to try a bbq plate next time. We sat at the bar to grab a few drinks with our lunch. Great place, delicious Brisket, tasty BBQ, great location, amazing atmosphere, superb service, they greeted us, managers came out to see if everything was doing good, waitress were nice and attentive, they had the times right, sweet tea was one of the best in town, very clean place, music was wonderful, good volume not too overwhelming, my whole family enjoyed it. I'm not one for hyperbole, but smokin moon is some fantastic BBQ and worth visiting anytime I'm in the valley. On the outside, it looks like a regular BBQ joint, but I walked in an the staff was very friendly and ready to assist. I ended up getting the family platter since there was a couple of us and it wasn't too bad of a deal. 6 pounds of meat and 5 sides for $99. Let's break it down: -Brisket: tender & Flavorful. Highly recommend -smoked turkey: just ok, didn't really stand out -beef sausage: what a welcome surprise. I'm usually not one for sausage, especially if it's not pork but I was mighty glad I tried this -Dino rib: good, flavorful, but not fall off the bone tender, which is what I prefer with my ribs. -chicken sandwich: deep fried and certified. I could eat this all day Now for the sides: the max n cheese was some of the creamiest I ever had and the brisket mashed potatoes went right on down. Food was phenomenal. We enjoyed the brisket so much that we ordered more (5 pounds) the very next day. I have never had any better than at Smokin' Moon. We also did a sample of the wings and decided they were amazing as well. We had excellent service. Our server was friendly and patiently answered all our questions. It was our first time there, but would not be our last. The owner or manager came to check on us to see how we enjoyed our food. This is another kudos for this management. Ambience was inviting. If we had been able to hang out longer, we would have enjoyed the patio/bar area. Maybe next time. If there was a negative, I would ask them to use something else for the paper on my tray. My paper was soaked through to the tray which is not appetizing to me. Perhaps butcher paper or parchment paper would solve the soak. read more

Came over the weekend around 1pm. First time eating here as well. We were told to sit anywhere and that we would be attended to in a few. Our hostess was great. She explained the menu and took our orders. I had the brisket tacos on flour tortillas. The tortillas did not have a "home made" taste but where good nonetheless. I liked the queso fresco as well on my tacos. Tried my tacos with the pico de gallo and it was just right. They were served with a green salsa that I didn't try since I'm not into hot or spicy. Also had the brisket nachos. The portion was huge. Three of us couldn't finish them. They as well were good. Overall, the place was clean and relaxed. The staff was friendly and attentive. I go to order & everyone is very friendly but didn't have a lot of options the things I wanted specifically with 3 hours left until close on a Saturday night. for my side I wanted fries which they didn't have, they didn't have that last time either, they didn't have Spanish rice, they didn't have the famous bread they use on their sandwiches which differentiates them from other popular BBQ places, & no Splenda for my unsweetened tea. Tried the brunch and it was delicious! Order the chicken and waffles and the brisket omelette. Everything was just so good. We sat on the bar side and the service was a little slow, kinda surprised since we got there right at 11:30 and there were very little people at that time, but the waitress and bartender were very nice. After the 10 min mark I called and some girl answered and I politely stated that I'm in the drive thru and maybe the button does not work so I'm calling just to let them know. The best BBQ I have had in the valley! Great service, pet friendly, and a really nice area to hang out. They even have lots of TVs for watching sports or specific events. I had their sloppy Jude sandwich which tasted amazing, the meat was great and the bread was a perfect complement to the brisket and the pulled pork. The staff was extremely helpful and even recommend us drinks for lunch. The drink menu and food menu are packed with lots of things and made it difficult to choose what to order. I love BBQ. Most of my favorite locals, though, aren't close to where I live. I hoped this would be a new place close to me, but it didn't meet my expectations. The place looked empty with lots of parking space available. This was in a Sunday afternoon. Inside, the restaurant does give you a ranch feel, with wooden tables and decor, but also with modern amenities, such as flat screen TVs and air conditioning. There is an outdoor seating area for those who want to enjoy the outdoors patio. I didn't see it too well, but it looked like a good place to spend with friends. The food is where I was disappointed. I like ordering baked potatoes with brisket. My baked potato was wrapped in foil, which made it difficult to eat the skin, something I love about potatoes. The cheese felt too thick and was overwhelming. The brisket was too salty. The potato itself felt mushy and wasn't chunky, the way you expect a potato to feel. The only good thing was the sausage. For now, it's an average place but not my primary choice to BBQ close to me. I may go a second time to try the ribs and make my final conclusion. read more

Smokin moon in PHARR is a good place for great and consistent bbq. I've had many things on the menu and nothing has disappointed. From the Dino ribs to the tacos there is an option for everyone. The staff have always been friendly and courteous with great service. The ambiance is also good from family events to hangouts to date nights. Highly suggest this location. And to put this here since the McAllen location doesn't have a yelp yet. If you have to choose between the two go to the original location. The location off of tenth street tastes different. The brisket chili is bland and the Mac and cheese are a lower quality compared to the Pharr location and the brisket is pretty much all fat. Also they have poor order management where they will bring one persons food out way earlier than someone else's. Have it two chances and that was too much. If they had a yelp id leave this here but I'm sure they are run by the same owner. read more

Served alcohol to pregnant women after repeatedly told it need to be a virgin drink... I asked for a virgin mangoada and my husband even told her himself before she turned to away to go grab our drinks. She came back and me and my 6 year old were drinking it almost half way done when the waiter came to us asking if it was suppose to be a virgin drink after we told her 2 times. I am currently pregnant and my son was devouring that drink and I am pretty sure he got a small buzz. We all ordered our food and mine and my son's food came out pretty quick. I figured my husband was going to be out any minute. We waited and waited until we had to call her over and come to find out she forgot to put my husbands order in just to come back and tell us they don't have the meat he wanted when we specifically asked if they have when ordering. At that point my husband did not want to eat. We then asked for our check, ordered dessert and a sandwich to take home. Our check was brought to us but yet again she did not order my husbands sandwich in. Apparently she was not new there but she sure was making huge mistakes... the biggest one is giving a pregnant women an alcoholic drink. This review is in reference to my dining experience on 2/26/2021. I have been a regular customer of this restaurant since it opened several years ago. In that time I have enjoyed the excellent BBQ and sides that this business excels at making. However, after my most recent visit I am seriously questioning whether or not I should return. To begin, the food was excellent. If this establishment were solely graded upon that I would gladly rate it with 5 stars. However, the service I received was abysmal and I completely stand behind my two star rating because of how poorly I was treated as a customer. As soon as we ordered our hostess was rude and confrontational because we simply asked her to repeat herself since she was wearing a mask. This is not unforgivable, sometimes people have bad days and things can be misinterpreted. However, her following actions were explicitly clear. As she was getting our orders ready she noticed that the cook had prepared two pulled pork sandwiches and not one pulled pork and one sloppy Jude as we had ordered. Despite that, the chef gave her a head nod and basically told her to try and pull a fast one on us. Now, the difference in price between the two sandwiches is four dollars so I am not too upset about what the financial loss would have been. I am upset that they had the audacity to do this three feet in front of me. I immediately had them correct this mistake but, they followed up this atrocious behavior with more sketchy actions. Upon paying my bill I did not leave a tip since they aren't servers and I wasn't impressed with their attempted BBQ magic show. However, the hostess attempted to get both receipts from me in an effort I can only assume was so that she could forge a tip for herself. I can't prove this second claim but, if you were there at the time I was it would be unmistakable. When there is smoke, there is fire. The management needs to get this sorted out because I would gladly amend my review and remain a loyal customer. But, if I can't even feel secure ordering or paying for my food here why would I return? read more
