This is the place for trailer hitches and such. We bought a pop up tent and needed my hubby's truck worked on to accommodate a heavier trailer than his little utility trailer. On April 21, 2021, Mike at The Outdoorsman installed a DEMCO Air Force One (with Wireless Coachlink option) braking system on my Jeep Wrangler and 41-foot Dynamax motorhome (with air brake system). I live in Paso Robles and although there is an authorized DEMCO installer where I live ("SR" RV), I have had such poor experiences with their overpriced service department and poor quality workmanship that I decided to make an appointment at The Outdoorsman in Fresno, which is a 2-hour drive from me. The Outdoorsman is also an authorized DEMCO dealer but a key difference is they have great reviews on Yelp compared to the previously mentioned SR RV in Paso Robles. I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance and Mike was ready for me when I arrived on the day of my appointment. When I made the appointment, Mike quoted me a $ range for the installation which I thought was completely fair. I arrived at 8:30AM and they started on the Jeep right away. Mike did have to go get a different part that I needed for my Dynamax air brake line that did not come with my DEMCO braking system. It took all day for the install and normally Mike would have wanted the Motorhome and Jeep for two days to do the job. But he knew I lived 2 hours away and that I needed to get home the same day so he went out of his way to make sure he got me done the same day. In my experience, less than 1% of companies would go out of their way to take care of their customer the way Mike did for me. The Outdoorsman closes at 5pm, but Mike and his team stayed until almost 7pm to get my braking system installed. There was a sensor on the brake pedal actuator that was very finicky and Mike had to adjust it several times to make the Wireless Coachlink work properly, but he did. It was a 100 mile drive back home to Paso Robles and everything worked perfectly. It is important to know that even after staying nearly 2 hours past their 5pm closing time to finish the install and troubleshoot the Wireless Coachlink issue, Mike still only charged me the lower price of the $ range he initially quoted me. I really can't think of ANY other company that has done that - especially in this environment where every RV shop is charging 150% because they can get away with it. I highly recommend Mike and his team for any tow bar, braking system, or hitch installation work if you want to get it done with high-quality and a very fair price. read more

Do not go to this place for catalytic converters. They will not guarantee the converter, only the welding. They put cheap converters on my Toyota truck. He charged me $1800.00. The check engine light came back on about a week and a half later. They claimed my truck probably had a manifold leak (they are not mechanics). I took my truck to a mechanic who thoroughly checked out my car. No leaks were found. The scanners at my mechanics and the auto parts store both said it was the converter. I even had my mechanic replace the oxygen sensors just in case. The check engine light came back on in less than a week. I took it to a muffler shop and they inspected the converters. They informed me that both converters were a cheap brand and the converter in the front was already burned up. They advised me to go back to the Outdoorsman and get another one because the one I had was defective and the warranty should still be good. When I arrived the owner was not there. A worker came in and I told him the problem. He called the owner and came back to tell me the owner said they were only responsible for the welding, not the converters, which was the majority of the cost! I went by Yelp five star ratings in choosing this shop to install some good quality after market converters on my car and paid him well. Instead, I got inferior parts welded on my car and when they failed I was told "no guarantees." I don't understand how this shop can carry a five star rating and not back up their work. I feel I was totally ripped off. I wasn't looking for cheap. I was looking for quality honest work. Not here. read more

I had a 5th wheel hitch to install in my truck, and only 1 1/2 days to get it done so I was going to take it to work and drill and weld it myself. My work schedule is very busy and this project was going to put me back. I thought I would see what it would cost, and if they could fit me in. I called at 8am on Wednesday, explained my needs and they said to bring it right in. By 9am I had dropped the truck off and by 1 pm the same day they called me to let me know it was complete.
