We dined here on a whim because we saw it on Apple Maps. It's in a convenient location and had a relaxed vibe. There is a board that lays out all the fresh seafood offerings. I was disappointed to learn that there weren't any local oyster options left the night we went. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was attentive. My brother-in-law asked for a Miami Vice, though the bartender wasn't familiar with that drink, he made his own version of it. My sister found the drinks to be a bit too strong. In terms of the food, we enjoyed the oysters even though they were imported. There were some unique options like a grilled oyster topped with kale. I got the ceviche, it was great! My sister got raw oysters, and loved them with the house made hot sauce. My brother in law said the lobster roll was delicious. We had a great experience, even though my brother-in-law found it to be a bit pricey.

We were actually recommended this restaurant by our Uber driver, and it did not disappoint! Cute open air restaurant, and our server was friendly and attentive. The food was great, although somewhat small portions, very well prepared. The cocktails were also very good. Highly recommend the passion fruit old fashioned!

Food and experience here was OUTSTANDING! We arrived around 12pm on a Saturday and it was busy but we were sat right away at a patio table. Shortly after, an amazing 3-man reggae band played live music right next to us. We let the waiter guide our oyster order. We got the half dozen east coast oysters, 3 each of 2 different kinds, and loved them. We also got the mahi mahi ceviche and garlic butter shrimp. I am not a shrimp person at all but LOVED this dish. The mahi mahi ceviche was hands down the favorite - it was soooo fresh and flavorful. The ceviche came with plenty of yummy chips but the garlic butter shrimp could've used an extra 1-2 pieces of bread. We had to eat the last 3 shrimp without bread. At first glance the prices seem a bit high, but the portions are large to justify it, and the quality is absolutely top notch. My boyfriend and I shared the 3 dishes and were completely full. The inside is also so incredibly charming with tons of cute decor and lights. Only note is that it took a LONG time for our little water cups to get refilled so we spent the majority of the meal without water.

Great food! We love sea food and the oysters were good, we also got the Rockefeller oysters and they are mostly cheese with a hint of oyster taste great for first time seafood! The lobster roll was amazing and fulfilling and one of the best ones I've had (if you don't like mayo still get it pls)! The mahi mahi tuna ceviche was the BEST thing there! I loved it (get that as an appetizer) only complaint is when getting oysters make sure you say not to add clams (unless you like them). overall food, staff, and ambiance was 10/10 loved it!

Great Food little Hole in the wall. Clean really good staff. The Bartender actually recommended the local food instead of tourist trap... Highly recommend it... Wife surprised me for

Servers were nice, decor was pleasant, and the seafood is superb! Went to this place by myself and can attest that it is friendly to solo travelers.

Local PR oysters - server did say they're very small and they were good. $22 for a dozen.

I was underwhelmed by the food. Good ingredients, poor preparation. This place may be better for those who prefer their shellfish hidden under sauce. Raw oysters - Good. I enjoyed the local oysters, uniquely small and briney - and the overall oyster selection was good. Soft shell crab - OK. I love fresh soft shell crab so was excited to see it on the menu. It was served oven baked topped with a melange of peppers, onion, cream, parsley. I was indifferent to the preparation, but didn't mind it because the crabs themselves were good. As a stand-alone dish, it was mediocre, not the best preparation of such a special ingredient. Razor clams - Poor. They were sandy (inexcusable) and overcooked. Further, they were prepared in the same style as the soft shell crabs. Menu lacks detailed descriptions, so I would have appreciated a heads up. I arrived at opening and perfectly easy to get seated. Service was good. The venue was fun, with a mix of patio, bar, and indoor. I never comment on bathrooms, but theirs was too dark. I had to turn on my phone flashlight, only then to realize I was in the men's!! While I appreciate sticking to the theme, I much prefer function over form when it comes to washrooms.

Walked by this place the prior day and it looked like a cool spot to grab a bite to eat, so after reading the positive reviews, the wife and I decided to give it a shot. We were warmly welcomed and quickly seated by the hostess with our server arriving promptly. She too was very engaging and professional. We ordered the guacamole to start and it was fantastic, especially the crispy chips. I ordered the grilled octopus and my wife the garlic shrimp. The octopus was flavorful but not as charred as I expected and a little too chewy for my liking. The garlic shrimp was also flavorful, mostly the tomato and onion but lacking that garlic punch Would definitely try it again.

A quick Lyft ride from our hotel. And the oysters- delish. Service was fast and friendly. The open air fish shack decor for the bill. A great place to stop and snack!

Went to The Oyster Schack for a quick bite. We were greeted immediately. Roberto, our waiter, was attentive and friendly. We ordered malanga chips to start and 3 raw oysters, fish tacos and beef tacos for our meal. Everything was fresh and very, very tasty. Nice presentation and great quality of food. The restaurant has a couple of options to sit and enjoy your meal or just drink. Nice music playing. If visiting Puerto Rico, make a stop at The Oyster shack. Highly recommended.

Where to start with this place--just go! The pico de gallo was easily the best I've ever had. The mushroom side dish was incredibly garlicky and packed with flavor. The warm octopus appetizer was huge and unbelievably tender--it's rare to find octopus cooked that perfectly. The crab cakes were also delicious, served in a rich, well-seasoned broth. The clams were sitting in an absolutely perfect sauce, but since I'm not a big fan of larger clams, I wasn't able to enjoy them as much as I would have liked. Loved the ambience, very nautical! The service was great considering how busy this place gets.

Excellent seafood restaurant! Service was outstanding with lots of staff coming by. Whole Jonah Crab, Lobster Bisque. Grilled Oysters and the Octopus appetizer were all fantastic. We almost went back a second day to eat again. If you're a seafood fan, I highly recommend.

This spot is located right off the beach. The decor reminds me of pirates of the Caribbean. They have a wide variety of options when it comes to fresh oysters. They were delicious. Pretty pricey tho

We were able to snag a reservation but for a late time which was about an hour and a half before close. The service was super great but one thing I wished they mentioned that the bottled water was going to be a $40 charge lol. Makes sense for any upscale restaurant though. Should've mentioned we wanted tap so fair warning, ask cause you WILL get charged haha. We had a group of 10 and for how big the group was, the food came out pretty fast. I don't think we ever had a time between drinks to entrees where we were waiting for food to come out. We got the watermelons mojito for drinks since it was the most raved about. It was good but personally nothing crazy for me. 8/10 score on that. We also curry popcorn chicken, the ahi tuna lollipops, the empanadillas and the goat cheese quesadillas for apps and honestly overall 9/10. This is where I don't like the sweetness part of this meal. The empanadillas were what I was most excited for but it was more sweet then savory which sort of lose my appetite a little. I think if you like that kind of taste then it's going to be good. It wasn't a bad taste at all. Just too sweet for my liking. The curry popcorn chicken was good and the lollipops were great. Again, nothing crazy. The goat cheese quesadillas was good as well but again, too sweet for my liking. Now on to the entree, they didn't have the porkchop since we came late so I ended up getting the porkchop belly dish. When it came out, it looked amazing but then I got a whiff of it and smelled cinnamon. That's when I was sort of disappointed. It was like eating pork but tasting Cinnamon Toast Crunch and as said before, it tasted great but too sweet for me. This one was way too sweet to where it seemed like a dessert item. I just had poor luck and got one of the one items that were sweet. This doesn't tank the rating down whatsoever because I also should've read it had cinnamon. It would've been great if they made a dipping sauce or something to pair it with and not have it on the pork belly itself. I got to try other dishes my friends got which were good as well but I wish I got to try something else. If I came back I would try the sold out item which was the pork shank or the sea bass. I know for a fact the sea bass was amazing. Had a bite of it and thought "I'll come back for that" Overall, 10/10 experience and nothing bad about the place but gotta try different items when I go next time. I understand the hype now

It was locked, so we along with two other couples, walked to see if there was a side entrance.. Nope! We kept walking to the rear and stopped a random parking lot attendant that shirt had a different restaurant's name on it. He asked us if we had reservations for Santaella and we said yes, and he directed us to a rear entrance. Once inside, my friend realized this was NOT Santaellas but a rooftop restaurant with an entirely different name. Visibly perturbed, she asked our server QUESTIONS! He said, it's the same restaurant, however, only the rooftop is open on Sundays and it's named Azotea.. WHAT?!? LOL! Because we took an Uber, we decided to stay a while. The menu was extremely limited, but we decided to try the Tamarind margaritas, which were really good, along with two appetizers, the tuna lollipops and the pulled pork quesadilla. Both VERY good, but the dinner menu was lacking. That said, I suggested we go to STK for the seafood tower that I had my eye on the evening before, so we exited stage right! Shame on Santaella for accepting reservations through Open Table knowing full well they are not open. I'm giving them two stars because Azotea was decent but it definitely wasn't what she was going for!

That is very rare and so very much appreciated that they went that extra mile for me. I highly recommend the tasting menu. It's 5 courses and they give you 3 options to choose from, within each course. And for the price ($85), a great value. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend the Breadfruit Gnocchi, Rainbow Runner Crudo, and Criollo Duck Mofongo. Chefs kiss! What I also noticed was, even though they were insanely busy, they didn't make you feel rushed. The invited you to savor the experience - which I did. Next time you are in San Juan, make a reservation and go. You won't be disappointed!

They have a lovely outdoor seating area, but we opted to sit inside for the ambiance, which turned out to be a great call. Service was excellent from start to finish. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and gave great recommendations. We decided to go all in on the $85 per person tasting menu. The food ranged from good to very good, and there was a *lot* of it. Standout dishes for me were the ceviche and the desserts, both of which were exceptional. The beef empanadas and breadfruit gnocchi were also highlights. My one criticism is that the tasting menu didn't feel particularly cohesive. We started with yellowfin tuna, moved on to wood-roasted fish, then suddenly shifted into Italian territory with breadfruit gnocchi in a rich buttery sauce before continuing on to beef steak and duck. Individually, many of the dishes were delicious, but together they felt more like a sampler of the restaurant's assortment of dishes rather than a thoughtfully sequenced tasting menu with a clear theme or progression. That said, the quality of the food, generous portions, and outstanding service made for a very enjoyable evening. If you're looking to experience a wide range of the kitchen's offerings, Cocina Abierta delivers.
