We came here for my birthday celebration. They required us to make reservation online. We reserved the 10am tour online, $99 per person for an hour ride. They required us to get there 30 minutes before the tour. We got there at 9:30am, but the tour did not start until 10:30am. We waited for an hour before we can get on the back of the horse. This place is pretty private. We will have to make a call at the gate, so the staff can buzz us in. Parking structure is small, and it gets full fast. Staff was not too friendly unsure if they get burnt out with the tour. The horses looked tired and some of them look sick. My horse kept its head down throughout the ride. The one hour ride is basically sitting on the back of the horse, walking up the trail that we can see the Hollywood sign, and turned around at some point. Not worth the price you pay for. We ended up being the only two on the ride, which made the experience even more special. Our guide, Ashley, was knowledgeable, personable, and easy to talk to. The conversation throughout the ride made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. The views were incredible--overlooking the Hollywood Hills, the Hollywood sign, the observatory, and even out toward Glendale. It's a perspective you just don't get any other way. We rode Apollo and Rain, and both horses were fantastic. They were calm, well-trained, and clearly knew the trail, which made the ride easy and enjoyable--even for riders who don't have a lot of experience. With just a few small corrections along the way, we felt more confident than we probably deserved. I'm sure a group ride would be fun, but having such a small, personal experience really made this memorable for us. I booked this experience the day before, mainly because I wanted to see how the weather would be during the heat wave. Getting there can be a little tricky, Google Maps doesn't take you all the way up. The ranch is located past the gate at the top, and you'll need a reservation to get through. I took an Uber, but the driver wasn't familiar with the route and ended up driving a bit too close to the horses. To avoid confusion, you can always get dropped off at the gate and walk a few minutes up. I chose the one hour ride, which was perfect for me, I don't think I could have managed the full two hours physically. The horse you're paired with may vary, I had Bonnie, a lovely black mare. Some horses are more adventurous than others and might wander a little too close to the cliff edge, which was more excitement than I needed! Our guide, Cass, was fantastic, very knowledgeable, answered all our questions, and gave us a helpful introduction to the horses. She also offered to take photos and videos of us along the ride, which was a nice touch. There's even a private viewpoint for the Hollywood sign, and on the way back we got a close up look at it, which was an incredible highlight. read more

This place was amazing so man different animals it made me feel like i was at a mid western ranch. The staff were very friendly and often pretty funny. Very knowledgable about the ride and rider safety. They kept a close eye on how we rode the horses to protect us and the horses. We tipped because the guides were awesome. I suggest going in the morning 9am tour or evening tour to keep cool in the summer. Parking could be better for those of us not in a pick up truck. Had the best time the the horse tour around the mountains of Hollywood. My son and I did the two hour tour. They have nice horses and great guides. We had Amy and she was very informative on our tour. She told us about all the foliage and also buildings we could view from our tour. The horses are well taken care of and they have safety as a priority. We had a great time riding horses around the Hollywood sign and learning about the area! Easy parking. Porto potties only. Sunset Ranch is a really cool and unique activity to do in the Hollywood area. It is a great way to have fun with friends or family, get outdoors, and see some great scenery while on Horseback! I did the day tour with a friend. It was around a 1 hour horseback trail through the Hollywood Hills. It is beginner friendly. I would consider myself intermediate to advanced when it comes to horseback riding, but on this trail the horses only walk, they do not gallop or trot, so even if you have never ridden a horse before you will probably be fine. However one consideration I should mention, as the trainer explained to me, is that the horses naturally like to walk along the very edge of the mountain trail. This is an instinct that helps them see predators better in nature. So if you are afraid of heights, you might want to consider this before trying this activity. To me it was not a big deal. The only minor complaint I had is that they require you to wear a helmet. Since I have experience horseback riding I would prefer not to have a helmet, but I understand that this is a probably a legal requirement for this business. Make sure to wear outdoor clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. And remember to bring sunscreen too. Overall it was a good experience and I would definitely do it again. read more

Our family of four, with two teens, had a wonderful evening ride. 2 of us had never rode before and it was not a problem - the horses were wonderful! The guides know each horse and their personality (and there are a lot of them) and you can tell how much they enjoy being around them. My horse definitely had a personality and didn't like to stay in line but he was always easily redirected. The guides ensured families stayed together and even took pictures of each group riding together. This was a wonderful experience - well worth it. Truly one of the best experiences ever!!!! My tour guide was Aaron, and he was truly the best! In order to get there by car, you will have to pull up to the gates, ring the bell, and tell them you have a reservation. They will then open the gates for you. Please be cautious!!! There are 2 small lots. Depending on the time of your reservation, anything after noon on the weekends is extremely hectic. It is a dirt path on an incline that is only one way, meaning if you need to back up and out of the area, the car behind you has to do the same, and it's very hectic. Luckily, when I arrived, there was only 1 parking spot left. I can't imagine parallel parking on an incline. Once you have parked, you will walk, and the horses are right there! I thought they would give you a presentation speech, but you just hopped right on! A great way to learn. The ride was amazing and I would definitely do this again. I wish they did offer these sessions as the sun sets, but the last hour on the weekend is usually at 3 pm. read more

I'm usually not much for riding horses, but today was my birthday and I decided to do something different. We did the one hour trail ride and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but while I was sitting on the horse, I had a silly smile plastered on my face the whole time. Wonderful just to be out in the park, enjoying the amazing views and spot of nature in the middle of a giant city. Scheduled start times can be a bit flexible so don't schedule your events around this too tightly or you might be disappointed. I counted about 100 horses here and enjoyed just seeing them hanging out. Staff was very friendly and helpful to those of us who are novices on the horse. This was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it if it's something you're looking into. The staff was friendly and even let us feed a horse an apple. Making the reservation was pretty simple, the parking was the only thing that tripped us up. The parking lot is past the gate and it is just a patch of dirt, luckily we were at the end of the day so there were little to no cars when we got there. You have to walk a bit up a hill to get to the actual ranch, but then you see all of the beautiful horses. This is definitely a beginner friendly experience, I've never ridden a horse and was very nervous in the beginning but all of the horses know what they're doing and the staff is also a big help. Parking isn't too far for a walk to the barn. Check in was easy but there is barely any signal up there. You get to explore the grounds while you wait for your slot. When we arrived we parked on the dirt road and walked up to the stables. Once at the stables the instructions provided instructions and protective gear for us to wear. I had taken the two hour horseback ride years ago and remember how stunning the views were. We were celebrating a birthday and decided to take the one hour Mulholland Trail ride, and it did not disappoint. All the horses look really well taken care of and the entire staff are very engaging and friendly. Johnny, Becca and our trail guide Benito were stellar. The views are simply stunning. The two hour ride you go much higher and see more vast views, but the one hour ride is very pleasurable as well with really nice views. Ducks and chickens all roaming around added a nice barnyard feel. Loved it! We got a special deal from bucket listers so it was $65 for the hour which was great. I absolutely loved my horse Draco!
