I had a similar experience as the other reviewers. I ordered my dream China cabinet on their website and they called me promptly to place the order. They sent me a picture of the receipt as well and I was informed it would be shipped next week. Three weeks later and I've heard nothing, so I call and leave a voicemail. No return call. I message the owner several times, no response. I message them on Instagram, no response. Once I informed him via text that I had filed a dispute with my credit card company, he informed me he would provide a refund Monday. While I did receive my refund, this was such a disappointment as I was excited to receive the cabinet and had the perfect place for it. I would never deal with this company again. I paid for items the owners stated they would hold onto them as I couldn't find a bed I liked to go with the Bombay antique dresser, double highboy Bombay chest, and glass door enclosed cabinet; in addition they were waiting to do the paint color once I chose a bed so they would somewhat match which was the reason for them holding all of it until I found a bed I truly loved that would work for my medical issues. I have left multiple messages over the past few years, many over just the last 3-4 months and yet I get no responses. HOW HARD IS IT TO RETURN A PHONE CALL?? It is obvious they were more than willing to take my money, and yet the only deduction I can come up with for the lack of response is that they resold the items, even though I was told they would have my name on them and be kept in a back storage area WITH SOLD TAGS ON THEM. I have been trying again and again to talk to the owners, I spoke to the husband once, who stated he would have his wife call...absolutely no calls back. I have left messages via their different platforms and again no response. And if course all I get is their answering machine, no one ever picks up the actual line. I have the bank statements showing the payments, yet I have received nothing for what I paid. At this point I just want a full refund since I clearly cannot get anyone to call me back. My name, number, and address have not changed since first contacting them and paying for the various items, and I made sure these were included in all my correspondence. I ordered a bed from the Painted Cottage and when it was delivered it was beautiful. However within 1 month the panels began to shrink out of the frames and the decorative pieces began to fall off. I contacted the vendor and they agreed to replace the bed. It has now been more than a year and I do not have a replacement bed or a refund only endless empty promises. It is a beautiful piece. There are a few negative things I experienced to knock it down to 3 stars: 1- not very responsive and did not answer specific questions in the message. 2- under quoted estimated shipping and did not proactively reach out when we were past the initial delivery estimate, I had to reach out. I am okay with waiting, however, not okay with feeling forgotten. 3- there is no top coat or clear coat over the chalkboard paint. This allows MAJOR chips in the paint to happen since there is no protective clear coat. Had to spend a weekend repairing the chips with my own chalkboard paint as none was provided. I even requested upon purchase as instructed to and it did not arrive. 4- there is a hair on the flat desk part that will live there forever. I purchased a 3k custom king sized bed and when it was delivered by the owner Jim I saw him glueing the bed together because he broke it and tried to hide it from me. This place is THE WORST!!!! I ordered two pieces of furniture in early 2021. It took well over a year to get ONE of the pieces. That piece wasn't even the one I ordered. I agreed to take it. I texted back and forth with the shop for months trying to get the other piece, which they kept assuring me they would send. They made excuse after excuse. I never got the second piece. Ordered $7K worth of furniture, paid in advance and that was the worst mistake! It took over a year to receive our order but the items were wrong and broken. Then no response or persons that would answer their phones. We're told we couldn't get our correct pieces because their inability to paint items due to lack of ventilation or HVAC. This was a horrible experience. I have been wanting to order a bed from there for years. Pictures look great. Finally paid about 3,000 for a king size bed from them in april. It is now august. I would politely ask for an update every so often. Sometimes I was ignored and sometimes I was told delays were from covid which I completely understand. But the lack of communication is what is frustrating after paying so much money. The customer shouldn't have to be the one to constantly reach out to these people. Don't waste your time with this business, horrible customer service! I purchased a buffet out of their Etsy store, and regardless of how many times I messaged them about a delivery, I received no response. When the item arrived by UPS, I was not home, and it was left with a paralyzed and (obvious) cognitive brain-injured person. I had no idea when it was shipped or coming since the shop does not respond. He Signed for it, and the driver left the box Crate in my garage. When I arrived home and had someone help me unpack it, there was a hole in the buffet's back, and one leg was broken. I immediately contacted the seller, who, of course, did not respond. I opened an Etsy case that allowed me to be refunded for buffet and shipping. Finally, the seller responded and said he would contact me with details on when the item would be picked up. I waited and when I heard nothing I contacted the store again. At that time, the store said to discard the buffet. I paid to have the item shipped to my home because I didn't have the means to transport it; therefore, discarding this item is impossible. I called the shop and was told I should have opened the package while the UPS driver was there so if there was damage, he could take it back. It took nearly 20 minutes to unpack this freight delivery. NO UPS driver will wait for you to unpack an item that long. Now I have to hire someone to come to my home and pay disposal fees to the dump since it's not useable and couldn't even donate. This is the first vendor who straight out ripped me off. If they were in NY State, I would report them to the Attorney General. I have never been cheated by a vendor. Their site shows beautiful objects. After back and forth, and a guarantee of delivery, I ordered a desk in July. I got the run around on delivery for months. In November, I finally got a delivery date. I was ripped off on the price of delivery, then flim flammed, when the delivery was executed. The "desk" was covered, when brought into my apartment. I was asked to watch his van, because it was double parked; I live in the city. When I came in the room where the desk was, the storage top was opened, which was strange. The desk looked smaller than what was ordered, but he was in a rush, so he "wouldn't get a ticket." Like a moron, I signed the invoice, before checking the desk out, but being nice, I didn't want him to get a ticket. When I got to the room and put the opened storage top down and saw that it would not close normally, I knew I was cheated. I saw the paint was cheap white, not what was agreed to, which was supposed to be an antiqued white. When I measured the desk, I saw it was smaller than what was ordered. When I looked at the chair, it was not only a cheap piece of garbage, but the fabric I sent to replace theirs was stained. The desk was not vintage; it was a cheap piece of crap, that had cheap flowers glued to it and plastic knobs. It was a broken ugly piece of garbage, that I waited so many months for. Buyer Beware! The pieces may appear lovely but appearances are deceiving. I placed an order for $7,000 and have experienced nothing but aggravation from this vendor. Clearly in it to overcharge for low quality poorly made pieces and not in it to build lasting customer relations. 4 of the 8 pieces that were initially delivered were the wrong pieces after I had explicitly indicated by email and phone the pieces I was ordering. This was after waiting 8 weeks for the furniture to be delivered. I then had to wait several more weeks to receive the correct pieces. 2 of the pieces which cost $1,000 each have drawers and doors that are unusable due to the horrendous craftsmanship. The measurements are off my atleast a quarter of an inch. Drawer won't close on desk and door won't shut on dresser because of the gaps. The owner rarely responds to emails. He even apparently blocked his email on the company site after I complained and was attempting to send photos of the issues. Ofcourse not, he has your money, why do the right thing and resolve the issue???! He has avoided me for 3 months resulting in my having no choice but to file a complaint with the BBB and my credit card company. A very poor way to do business. Save yourself the aggravation and DONT BUY FROM THIS VENDOR. Ha, I even tipped him an extra $200 when he delivered my pieces. So much for being kind to someone who has zero ethics. read more

They do not offer customer service, due to demand in their producst they have ignorance. We ordered a French Armorire in mid-September 2020. Paid in full with PayPal. Received no confirmation from the store but got confirmation from PayPal. Followed up by email and telephone on October11, 2020. The owner confirmed that they have the order and that the item would be shipped in 6 weeks. 6 weeks has come and gone and we followed up by phone many times however their phone is never answered and there is no way to leave a message. We have opened a dispute with PayPal and intend to cancel the order and seek a full refund as the item has not been delivered and the store is totally un-responsive. We understand that businesses are struggling during the pandemic but that doesn't account for the total lack of communication with their customers. Very disappointed. I've tried to get a couple of pieces from this shop. The first order sat with no movement for months. I was told it was on back order (after I followed up a month after I placed it), then when I asked them to ship the second piece that was in stock they didn't reply. When I threatened to cancel the order the piece miraculously was in stock. Then weeks later it still didn't ship. I had to dispute the charge on my credit card. We later thought they would care more about their Etsy profile so we ordered the 'in stock' item there. It arrived the wrong color and literally crumbled when it came out of the box. It was also just a repainted piece of Walmart furniture. I've spent more time trying to get my money back from this shop then I'd care to admit. Bought a gorgeous armoire from here. They shipped it to me in Texas and along the way it was dropped and ruined. They failed to insure it - so UPS refunded me the max they could which was about half. Painted Cottage does not return calls or respond to emails, they assured me repeatedly when I caught them answering the phone, that they got a credit from UPS and would send it to me to cover my loss. I chased them from January to July and they have yet to refund the money they owe me - $745. I filed with the NJ BBB and now have to file with the NJ Attorney General to recoup my money due to their negligence and lack of concern for customer service. May have to sue. Sad! read more

My experience with them was a nightmare: I ordered a nightstand from them off their website and after two weeks of not hearing anything from them (and multiple unanswered emails) I called them,and they didn't know anything about my order. Finally, they found it and told me it would be out within the week. It came and was the wrong nightstand!!! Also, it was cracked in two places. I called them the next day and was told the owner Jim would contact me that day or at the latest the next. Well, he never did. More emails and calls later, I was given his personal number and he never called me back from that one either! Three weeks later he finally emails me and tells me he'd look into it and then nothing... Another three weeks and after tons of phone calls that he never responded to, I told him he obviously did not care about his customers and I would be contacting my credit card company to have the charge reversed. He never did get back to me and I was able to get my money back through my credit card company. Let me tell you, after dealing with JIM, dealing with Capital One was truly a treat! I purchased a King size bed on August 12, 2014 from Valarie and Jim. To my disbelief when the bed arrived it was covered in BLACK MOLD. I ordered the bed in a custom color in which it was never painted. The owners of the shop sent me the bed the way they purchased it. Lying telling me it would take at least two weeks to ship out since it was a custom order. They NEVER did anything custom to the bed. I was also lied to and told the bed was a one of a kind. Surprisingly they now have several of the same bed listed for sale on their site. I promptly returned the bed asking for a full refund. As of September 12, 2014 I still have not been refunded my full amount. I don't know what type of quality control the painted cottage has but there is no way this item should have been sent to a customer in its condition. I paid $2419 for a bed that wasn't worth Walmart selling. These people are huge liars and have very unethical business pratices. BUYERS BEWARE...I would hate to see anyone go thru the stress, trouble and aggregation I have. I plan on contacting the BBB as well as take them to small claims court if this issue isn't addressed immediately. read more
