The…read moreplace is tranquil and secluded, away from Main St and all the noise, but only a 5 min drive away. Dawn and Ed are great communicators, they had cookies ready for us on arrival, and Dawn met us to check us in and give us info. We stayed in the Rose room, which is roomy, has a heater and an old fireplace which they give you wood for. Bathroom/shower has a separate heater, and the room has its own patio, but we found it's much nicer to explore the grounds and sit on one of their many benches and chairs spread throughout the hillside with nice views. There are cows across the street that are friendly, and we went to say hi to them in the mornings and feed them tall grass. And don't forget to step outside the cottage at night to gaze at the Milky way galaxy...you heard me correctly...not just stars, you can see the faint outline of the Milky way because Julian is a Dark Sky community and Ed and Dawn's place is very dark at night...epic! Breakfasts are a delicious two course meal of a fruit dish and main. Added bonus is chatting with Ed and Dawn about Julian history and getting tips on places to go/eat. Ed and Dawn were also accommodating to bring our breakfast to their outdoor patio since my fiancé had some smell sensitivity to the food cooking in the main room (but also, it's kind of nicer to sit outside, but then you miss communing with the other guests) The main breakfast/communal area has a bunch of books and movies you can check out and take to your room, along with microwavable popcorn...we watched Gone with the Wind on VHS with the fire burning at night...such a charming and memorable time! Thanks Dawn and Ed! Our only recommendations would be: 1) for those with allergies, getting some cotton bed sheets rather than microfiber/synthetic material (we asked but they didn't have any at the time) 2) while we loved the charm of the themed rooms, there is just a lot of stuff, i.e. old teddy bears/dolls on shelves, old style window curtains that are more for show rather than necessary since the windows already have blinds, these things just make the room feel crowded and also gather dust. But maybe that's just our minimalist preference? 3) The room is advertised with a Queen bed, but seemed more like a Full (perhaps it's a European Queen?), just seemed on the smaller side. In any event, we'll probably try to book the Apple room next time which has a King size bed (which was already taken during our stay) and has a view into the woods. 4) the couch/futon cushion is detached from the wood frame and has a tendency to slide around, and it's also bigger than the seating area, so you could end up sitting on the cushion but not the frame, thus falling down.

But, we bought our own lighter and some fire starting things to help the process out. * Keep in mind, it does get SUPER windy out here also. So, if you book a room with its own fire pit, put that into consideration. At least when we booked our Rancho, the room description mentions NO TV. So plan accordingly! I gripe about this because the first time I booked Jacumba Hot Springs Hotel, it was not mentioned on their website & I was not mentally prepared for a NO TV status. The pool did look refreshing & we brought our swimwear- but decided not to hop in. Unfortunately there is no hot tub on site. Pool noodles are available. Some lounge chairs are in the sun and a handful are underneath cover. We received our text, the day of check in- letting us know our Rancho would be available by 1pm! By the time we received it- we were just about done with lunch in Julian & took Banner Grade down. That was a bonus! Office was closed by the time we arrived. It would've been cool to play some pool. Had a lovely stay. Location is perfect to grocery store, taco shop, & Carlee's!

The decor and design of the place is SO creative, all the little areas look picture perfect. It is super clean inside too. Towels are new and fluffy, no stains on any sheets or towels. No dirt or dust or cobwebs. Love the cute little garden they have. Jamie and Dawn are super sweet- gave us zucchini to grill and fresh picked Gala apples to enjoy too. Firestarter and wood was provided so we could enjoy the custom popcorn popping station which was super fun to try for the first time! There's even custom flavors to sprinkle on which added to the fun! Everything is so thoughtfully curated and perfect for a family. My kids loved the giant Jenga, the mini teepee with toys inside, the cornhole, frisbee, board games, etc. So much to enjoy. And best of all was being able to pet and feed the goats, pigs, and sheep! Jamie showed us all around and we go to visit the bunnies, ducks, chickens and the whole animal crew. My kids had a blast at the farm and we look forward to returning again for a taste of country living!

We stayed Dec 26th to 29th 2020 Leave a single dish out of place or in the sink after your stay? That will be $50.00 USD. Good thing we didn't leave a single dish out! But that wasn't good enough! Jamie & Dawn (property owners) will say you left their property a mess on your AirBnB profile for other owners to see even though it is a LIE. Good thing I sensed bad vibes from these owners and took a time stamped video of the condition prior to leaving. Jamie and Dawn will review you and say your communication was "sub-par" on your Airbnb profile. Want to have visitors during the day? There's a day-use fee. You can pay the day fee and Jamie Dawn claim to accommodate your guests even though they physically did nothing but send you a request for $25 per person. Paid $75 and still, Jamie and Dawn will call out accommodating your guests who stayed outside the whole time. Did you just park in their "Parking" area far from the entrance of the barn and have to lug your roller bag to the door from the car b/c the wheels don't work on the gravel? Looking to unwind after lugging all your belongings and have a drink around 7 pm after settling in for your vacation? Well Dawn is going to knock on your door and talk you up for a good half hour about this and that while your beer gets nice and warm. Are you worried about COVID-19? Jamie and Dawn will roll right up to you without masks to the front door and in your kids' face while feeding chickens. NO MASKS. Apparently, Jamie and Dawn are really upset about the condition of the stove which was clean. If they are so upset about it, guess what, THEY DON'T WIPE DOWN OR DISINFECT THE SURFACES AFTER GUESTS LEAVE!! They charge $75 for cleaning and a $80 service fees with Airbnb reservations. Apparently, the cleaning fee doesn't get you much cleaning. Did you leave with your son on an adventure and left the wife to do some work? Well don't look now but it's Jamie walking right by the master bedroom window while she's lying in bed. Don't ask for any winery advice b/c they will send you up the street to a garbage winery. Principe di Tricase Winery. Literally, covered with old office furniture and dilapidated structures. $40 for the Nebbiolo which was disgusting. Did your partner or daughter pass a menstrual cycle? Jamie and Dawn will make sure to note that on the review of your personal profile and ask for money after the review posts to make sure everyone knows!! They don't even try to reach out directly/privately to work something out. Nope, they post it so everyone can see. #CLASSY! We researched the Airbnb community about blood issues. The owners are SO friendly, greeted us with a smile, and showed us around to ensure that we felt right at home. It is tucked away under shady trees, lots of flowers, and near great hiking, a national park, and more. It has a comfy queen bed + futon if you bring kiddos, an adorable kitchenette stocked with coffee, cream, fruit, freshly baked bread and sweets from a local bakery, water, and butter. It has it's own little driveway so even though it is pretty close to the owner's home, you still feel like it is your own place. It has a fenced in patio with a little fountain + blooming lily pads! We saw deer and heard the birds singing from the adorable little back patio, that was fully equipped with a table and two chairs. The best part - we were able to bring our pup with us!!! He LOVED rolling around in the grass and spending time in the fresh air. The town of Julian is fantastic, and was so festive over the 4th of July! There is so much to see and do. We highly suggest the Gold Mine Tour, visiting the wineries, cider tasting, shopping, indulging in delicious pies, and more. Even in the summer there were things to do but we can't wait to come in the Fall when there are way more festivities! We will absolutely be back to this quaint little casita again. Built for family fun and big groups!…read more We booked the Mountain Retreat Cottage in Ramona and unfortunately the VRBO system accidentally double-booked it. Carissa, the host, immediately reached out and offered an amazing solution: stay at their other much larger property (Red Barn Ranch) for the same price! Yes, please. This property is meant for larger groups, like family reunions, and our family of four felt privileged to have it to ourselves. The home is set up with bedrooms galore, three bathrooms, washer and dryer, large porch and stocked kitchen (including a snack basket). Outside there is a chicken coop with chickens, ducks and peacocks along with food (dehydrated meal worms) for a quarter. There's a greenhouse you can peer into with loofahs, picnic tables, a hot tub, fire pit and 24/7 farm stand with one free dozen eggs for guests. There's also a huge separate game room with billiards, a piano, darts, old-style arcade games including Pac-Man, Asteroids and more. Best of all, Carissa is responsive and she and Cory make sure you have everything you need or know where to go to find it. Good to know: In the winter it's chilly at night in the game room even with the space heaters on, bring layers. Bring slippers too as the home has a no-shoe policy and the plank floors can be chilly with just socks. Also, we didn't see facial tissue, so you might want to bring that too. Nearby check out the Ramona Grasslands Preserve for a walk with beautiful mountain views and eagle sightings. Also Farmstand 67 is worth a visit with a wonderful make-your-own succulent area including colored stones, soil, rocks for drainage and lots of cute small pots.

The home feels like you've just walked into a custom newly decorated family environment. There were four adults and 3 children (over 18) sharing this beautiful getaway! With comfortable rooms, beds, bathrooms beautifully decorated and fully stocked for the Holidays. The deck extends the whole length of the house with an incredible view of Lake Cuyamaca! I live in a lovely home in Julian (2400 sq ft) with a view of the Cuyamacas. This 2500 sq ft house competes... with everything you could hope for when getting away in the mountains with every convenience and comfort on your getaway! Can't say enough about how much we all loved it and are planning our next trip soon! I recommend this to all my family and friends!!!
