This place is a 90 mile round trip from where I live but sometimes you have a free day to fill and…read morewhy not. Road trip! It was worth the drive. Food was so good (burger and grilled chese with brisket.) And even though it's in the podunk Santa Ysabel, there are other things (pie, bread) at the same intersection so you can get a lot done. I'd like to also call out the fries. I have an unhealthy obsession and visceral reaction to bad fries, but Farmhouse 78 hits it out of the park with their fries. It defies logic that other sit-down places will meticulously prepare quality, fresh food, then slap frozen Ore-Idas down on the plate. Farmhouse 78 does not do that. Fresh cut potatoes fried in beef tallow. Doesn't get any better than that. I'd add a sixth star just for the fries if I could. I plowed through them before I even touched the sandwich.

I even brought friends who had never been here before, thinking it could become one of our regular stops when we're out hitting the trails. Instead, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth... and not just from the food. Waitress: Where do I even start. She claimed she was hard of hearing--but her attitude spoke loud and clear. Tossing menus on the table, aggressively slamming salsa down, and getting snarky over being off because our party count was off by one person. Seriously? It took two seconds to adjust the table, but apparently that was just too much. Yes, she technically did her job... but with such a cold, unwelcoming, and rigid attitude that it made the whole experience uncomfortable. What really stood out? We were there first and ready to order, yet she chose to take care of every smaller table that came in after us. No communication, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. Just ignored. Basic courtesy clearly isn't part of the service here. And trust me--I used to be a waitress. I handled large parties all the time and actually communicated with my tables. It's not that hard. Honestly, if gratuity hadn't already been forced onto the bill, she would've gotten $0. The only pleasant person we encountered was the busser--quick, friendly, and actually seemed like he wanted to be there. Maybe swap their roles, because he outperformed her by a mile. Food: Let's talk about the food... if that's what we're calling it. Everything came out cold. Not "warm-ish," not "could be hotter"... just straight up cold. It felt like our plates were sitting under a heat lamp for way too long before making it to the table. One "white" friend asked to have her meal fixed--fine, no problem. But when another "Hispanic" friend asked the same thing? Suddenly there was attitude, menu slamming, and mumbling under her breath. So... what exactly was the difference? Why the inconsistency and hostility? If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe management should step in and help instead of letting food die in the window. Just a thought. Final Thoughts: This place had potential... but that waitress single-handedly ruined it. We'll be taking our group (and our money) elsewhere--Dudley's Bakery is looking like a much better option moving forward. I usually bring large groups out here, so this isn't a small loss. Unfortunately, if this is the level of service they're okay with, this place isn't going to improve anytime soon. At this point, it's less "Farmhouse charm" and more "junky barn energy."

Built for family fun and big groups!…read more We booked the Mountain Retreat Cottage in Ramona and unfortunately the VRBO system accidentally double-booked it. Carissa, the host, immediately reached out and offered an amazing solution: stay at their other much larger property (Red Barn Ranch) for the same price! Yes, please. This property is meant for larger groups, like family reunions, and our family of four felt privileged to have it to ourselves. The home is set up with bedrooms galore, three bathrooms, washer and dryer, large porch and stocked kitchen (including a snack basket). Outside there is a chicken coop with chickens, ducks and peacocks along with food (dehydrated meal worms) for a quarter. There's a greenhouse you can peer into with loofahs, picnic tables, a hot tub, fire pit and 24/7 farm stand with one free dozen eggs for guests. There's also a huge separate game room with billiards, a piano, darts, old-style arcade games including Pac-Man, Asteroids and more. Best of all, Carissa is responsive and she and Cory make sure you have everything you need or know where to go to find it. Good to know: In the winter it's chilly at night in the game room even with the space heaters on, bring layers. Bring slippers too as the home has a no-shoe policy and the plank floors can be chilly with just socks. Also, we didn't see facial tissue, so you might want to bring that too. Nearby check out the Ramona Grasslands Preserve for a walk with beautiful mountain views and eagle sightings. Also Farmstand 67 is worth a visit with a wonderful make-your-own succulent area including colored stones, soil, rocks for drainage and lots of cute small pots.

Most everywhere we went was dog friendly and some of the shops had bowls of water outside for them. We decided to have a late lunch and landed at the Malibu Farm, which was a fabulous choice!! Not only are they dog friendly but they have a fabulous dog menu with several choices of meals for them. They also offer water as soon as we were seated. We chose the chicken & broccoli bowl that also contains rice and shared it between the two pups...not a drop left! I decided on the Malibu Beef Burger which was cooked to perfection and was such a great burger with a tad of mess (which is what makes a burger the best!) They don't offer french fries but roasted potatoes or mashed potatoes so I chose the roasted ones. They were so good and there was also a lightly dressed arugula salad, which was a perfect side! Wife got the Stop Light Trio tacos which comes with three tacos (the green-chicken, raw brussels, cilantro crema, the yellow-butternut and spaghetti squash with a mango habanero salsa, and the red-hanger steak, pickled cabbage, onion, and salsa roja). She loved the yellow one best followed by the red one but I'm all for the green one...it was delicious!). And we had to splurge with a piece of their grilled chocolate cake...yup grilled! We were told that the cake was torched around the sides and it creates a nice toasty edge. So decadent and thick and rich and lots of chocolate! Overall an excellent meal along with some great service! We had a server change during our meal but we were wowed by the service from everyone. Taylor was the server who ended our service. Thank you for a wonderful meal!!!

What a super chill venue!…read more Went here with my sister's friends for Sunday brunch this past weekend. The venue is pretty stellar! They're dog friendly, have large grassy areas and corn hole; it's such a vibe. It's all about the outside dining area and that awesome wall of jasmine flowers. It was breezy and the scent traveled making the experience super unique. We were famished and everything on the menu looked next level good. Our waitress Cynthia answered all our annoying questions. I got the lavender lemonade to start and it hit the spot. The lavender was perfect, not too perfumy (not a word apparently but it is today) but enough to say ok, there's lavender in there and I like it. It was refreshing. My main meal was the chilaquiles which had a nice kick to it so beware if you can't tolerate any spicy flavors. It was more of a soup in presentation but I love sauce and may have licked the bowl because I'm classy. We also desperately wanted the side of potatoes because we kept seeing it and all of us ended up getting an order and did not regret it. The potatoes include the skin, salted and super crunchy. It's like fry well fries and I'm all about it. We will be back!!!

The place is located inside the conference center so it's super modern and beautiful inside. Definitely a pleasant looking establishment. Service was very friendly and attentive. They have a decent amount of parking as well. Food unfortunately didn't deliver. Matcha was pretty good, and a green smoothie was decent but way too heavy on a protein powder. I ordered avocado toast with an egg and it was very decent, but nothing special. Bread was kind of fatty, I believed it was dipped in butter. My husband had some breakfast platter with potatoes which he asked to be extra crispy and he got the deep fried breakfast potatoes. His bread was also dipped in butter and his egg was also very fatty. So we didn't enjoy the food too much.

We were not disappointed at all. Upon arriving, there was a musician playing, and they did seat us off to the right so we could not see but could hear still. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but at the time we came it appeared that the outdoor was reserved for an event. We happily sat inside! Having met Jeremy's parents earlier in the day who also recommended his restaurant, and they were just lovely, we had hoped to possibly meet Jeremy too. I wanted to try everything, but we opt on getting a few dishes to share. Our son ordered the filet mignon and they were able to substitute mashed potatoes for fries. Amazing!! The mac & brisket appetizer appeared to be the highlight and specialty and we just had to order it. Every bite was cheeesy and delicious with the brisket very moist. We couldn't go without ordering the Brussels sprouts and it had a twist with ponzu sauce and pineapple. Definitely a different take and I thoroughly enjoyed the taste. Every bite was foodgasmic and I highly recommend!!! I knew coming here that some Yelpers have experienced wavering in quality, so glad we did not experience that at all. As of the date that we came, we understood that the restaurant had been listed for sale, not sure if Jeremy sold it yet or not. I hope not, we plan on coming back this summer!
