Nice lodge for a quick getaway! We stayed in the Mountain View retreat that has its own entrance and bathroom. Plenty of space for our family of 4 and the views definitely did not disappoint. There is a shared space with a pool table and kitchen to use. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that just a few things were off - there was a definite musty smell in the room but the room was nice and clean. There is no central heating and the temperatures can drop at night. The fireplace and a small space heater are available to use but it doesn't warm up the space. If anyone likes their rooms at a certain temp, this won't be the place for you. The Keurig in the room didn't work but the kitchen one was just fine.The tub looks like it has a spa jet feature but it doesn't work. read more

Tucker Peak Lodge will be one of those places people will either love or hate. It's nestled up on a hill with surrounding trees and has a large expansive deck with chairs to enjoy the outdoor air. The lodge appears to have been a large house at one time, that possibly served as a B&B, but now it is a lodge. Depending on our background, you could find this as an enchanting getaway with romantic quaint rooms. A young couple might find Tucker Peak very charming and exciting. The price to stay overnight, is pretty competitive for the area. An order couple, might perhaps see the world differently with all their experience and instead pay attention to everything imperfect. A board out of place, smaller rooms, etc. I stayed overnight and overall I enjoyed my stay. I thought it was a fun one night experience, away from everything. Driving up the somewhat private road to Tucker Peak Lodge, it is easy to pass the sharp left turn (I did and backed up a bit). A sharp incline winds up to the driveway in front of the Lodge. I honestly was a bit confused about the parking situation. There was a truck parked backwards in the driveway. I stopped, examined the area and came to the conclusion that indeed the other spot on the drive way was marked "2" and was guest parking. I backed into that spot on the top of the driveway. After getting out I could barely make out the head in parking spaces a little lower down the driveway. It looked like another 3 or 4, but I think the guest parking needs signs and more thicker white lines indicating where to park. Walking up past the driveway, I noticed a sign that said "guest check in." I following the sign direction and noticed a door open at the top of some steps. I was embarrassed to find that the maid services was attending to one of the rooms and they directed my further down to the main Living Room where the "check in " was located. I expected a person to be there, but looking up at the wall in the entrance was a sign that was titled "Self-Check In." No one else was there, so I signed the guestbook and found my name with a key hanging on the wall in front of the short desk. I guess it was easy enough, but again the process didn't seem clear to me either. Walking into the "Rosewood" room, we found it to be very charming. Everything was arranged nicely. The shower and bathroom were clean and looked to have been recently remodeled. The plank flooring made it perfect for our stay with our little 6 lb Yorkie. I felt a bit claustrophobic at times, but that's probably me. The bathroom had swinging saloon style doors that made me a bit uncomfortable and self-conscious when using the bathroom. As I said early, a younger couple could find this really fun. It just wasn't my thing I guess. The room had a nice small refrigerator and was stocked with K-cups to make coffee along with the amenities. There were also more in the main kitchen. If you like to make your own meals, the place has a pretty nice common kitchen area for preparing your food. The common Living Room had a beautiful staircase and stone fireplace. Big large comfortable furniture was available for your leisure. Some of the rooms were located inside the main house on the second floor above the Living Room. If you like a lot of privacy these rooms might not be your thing. I found Tucker Peak Lodge to be the imperfect fun getaway experience. I did enjoy my stay and was glad I visited. read more

Terrible terrible management and customer service. We have booked our room, "Grand Studio Suite" through hotels.com TWO MONTHS ahead before our stay. However, upon arrival, we were given a COMPLETELY different room with different beds and bathroom. My husband initially reached out to Jamal, the manager and he said that they have no control over it and that we must reach out to hotels.com for a refund. So we did and the hotels.com representative called the Tuckers Peak Lodge manager to talk over the fact and told us that he DENIED our request for a refund. Why recommend us to contact hotels.com if he was going to deny it? So I emailed Jamal again to seek further assistance. (because he didn't answer the phone calls multiple times that we tried) There was no apologies, no sign of concern, but just telling me that there has never been such instances like this and that only full refund will be given if the room were to be rented out to someone else. That was 7:36PM. No ones going to rent a hotel on a Sunday evening at that time. Or the chance is VERY slight. I sent another reply with pictures of our initial booking and the room that we actually got and how misleading it is and that it is a false advertisement and he just stopped responding. So here I am. Very disappointed. I was charged $207.58 for a room that was NOT the room that I booked and that I did NOT stay in. I am just posting hoping to prevent another person from a similar experience. I just filed a Consumer Complaint and waiting to hear back. All I wanted was for the manager to understand the problem and help by giving us a full refund, but I guess that was too much to ask. I will not ever stay here and don't recommend it to anyone else. P.S. The room had some weird smell and I am honestly glad I didn't stay. read more

I was very disappointed with this lodge. The first night there was a very strong perfume smell and the electricity was out for about an hour. The manager came to my room and seemed put out by my complaint. I tried to cancel the next night but the scheduler never returned my call, email, or text. My impression was that if he ignored the problem it would go away. It worked. I stayed the second night and the room had a strong smell of wet dogs. I was charged full price. The manager didn't try to satisfy me in any way which I felt they should have at least given me a discount for both nights. If you are a younger crowd with pets, this may be a good place for you. If you have allergies, it is not. I forgot to mention that there were dog hairs, pubic hair, and black spots on the bedding. It was gross. read more

Took my boys here to enjoy Julian for the first time. We had a great stay although I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants total privacy and quiet. You share a kitchen, living room and deck with the other guests and I know they could probably hear my kids when they were playing Jenga or pool in the living room. That being said, if you are a friendly person, it could be a nice way to run into others on vacation. I had a great chat with the innkeeper and a couple out from Scotland. There is a huge deck with lots of chairs and a stunning view. I got some wine just so I could enjoy a glass out there! The room was very sweet and the sheets were soft as could be. A couple minor things, one squeaky bed, broken electric fireplace and a crazed shower head, but all manageable. There is a wonderfully friendly cat that my kids fell in love with and she must have with them. We opened our window and next thing we know she is meowing at our second floor window wanting to join us. Really nice stay. read more

I booked a reservation here and was shocked that check-in is four and they could not let me in earlier to get ready for a wedding. I ended up having to get ready for a wedding in a nearby restaurant. They told me that I should have called over a month in advance to request an early check-in. Just seems completely unreasonable to me. The worst part of it all was that I did call four days earlier - 15 times! But they never answered, nor did they respond to my voicemail that I left!! This place seems clearly over capacity and there's not people to actually attend to guests. I wouldn't stay here ever. read more

There was no key left for us. That is why we needed to get in touch with the owners. We couldn't reach them, which is why we had to leave.

When I was planning a quick girls getaway for my friend's birthday I found the town of Julian which I have never heard of. And during my research I discovered this lodge online and booked it for one evening and I am so happy I did. We drove up after work so arrived later in the evening and all three of us wish we had more time to stay in this lovely place. First off, it is so peaceful and at night you can see all the stars in the sky. When you first enter the lodge you see a living room with a small game area to the right and to the left is a dining room and a kitchen. Up the stairs were 3 rooms. Ours was the Harmony Room and it had two queen beds, a bathroom with plenty of towels, and an electric fireplace. The beds were so comfortable. Since it was late when we arrived the innkeeper Craigly told my friend we were free to use the kitchen and anything in it. We had a cake for my friend so we sat around the dining table eating cake and drinking hot chocolate (made from the Keurig in the kitchen). The next morning we woke up bright and early and sat outside on the deck sipping coffee. We met a couple of other fellow travelers and swapped recommendations on what to do for the day. For a city girl, I thoroughly enjoyed waking up to the sounds of birds and not to cars honking. It was so tranquil sitting outdoors enjoying nature. The reason I didn't give this place 5 stars - - with 3 girls staying in the room I wished there was a mirror hanging outside the bathroom - the shower door also didn't close all the way This lodge has a lot of potential for 5 stars. I think it would be a perfect bed and breakfast and offering breakfast would make the experience even better. The drive to Julian from L.A is about 3 hours long and there are a lot of winding roads so be very careful when driving at night. Once you turn onto Eagle Peak Road slow down or you will miss the entrance up the hill to the lodge. Parking is limited because there are just a few rooms in the lodge. read more

This cozy lodge was the perfect place for me to get away on my own for a couple of nights to relax. It has a very country feel and the accommodations were very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the fireplace in the room and felt very secure staying by myself with the deadbolt lock and inner door bar. The staff were very nice. The price was good, but I understand why, please see below. The grounds need serious cleaning of debris, garbage, general cleanup. There was trash on the deck that should have been picked up. A chainsaw was left out overnight creating a hazard for children. Fortunately there were no kids at this time. The building and decks need painting. In our room the wood flooring was lifting up, there are holes in the walls that should be patched not covered up by decorations. We had to move the wall decoration to find a light wall switch. My pillow had old blood stains. The garage looks like a hoarding issue, with a room above this is a serious fire hazard. There is wood stacked next to the garage with two gasoline cans sitting on top of it. The broken down car should be removed as well as the debris, this would allow for more parking.The building and location has the potential to be a 4-5 star resort if attention were paid to maintenance and general cleanup. read more

The only thing good about this place was the scenery. Even before arriving, I'd had a lot of trouble reaching someone at the hotel to modify my reservation, shortening it from two nights to one and adding a late check out. But when my card was charged, not only was I charged for both nights, but I was charged for both an early check in and a late check out. Honestly, though, I'm relieved I didn't stay a second night. Upon arrival, it was clear why I was having so much trouble getting a hold of someone - there's no staff on site! I was planning to ask someone about the incorrect charge, but there was no one to be found at any point during our stay. The room was nice, albeit small, but the bathroom had no door! Just saloon doors! So if you're staying there with another person, brace yourself for that. Also, a part of the molding along the floor had broken off and there were just a bunch of exposed nails. Not ideal! Probably the worst part was that there were *multiple* stains on our bedding, one of them clearly a blood stain accompanied by a pubic hair. And again, with no staff on site, it was a whole process to get someone to come replace the bedding. Clean linens are truly one of the most basic things a hotel should have, and for the bedding to be so obviously stained was really disgusting. Long story short, if you're looking to stay in Julian, spend a few extra dollars and stay elsewhere. read more

We arrived late on a Wednesday night just before a big snow, and it was the easiest check in experience we have ever had! Emily, the innkeeper, texted us prior to arrival to get our ETA to ensure someone would be there to greet us and make sure our room would be ready. When we arrived, multiple people were already salting the steep driveway (word of warning about the steepness with any snow or ice). Our room was already warmed up and waiting for us (and our pup). The room was nice, on the smaller side, but perfect for spending the night before heading into town. The only issues we had was the bed was pretty firm and the walls were very thin. There was a family in the common area until midnight that we could hear, but it was no big deal. Checking out was super easy again, just returning the room key to its hanger. Distance to town was phenomenal and it was not difficult to find, even in the dark. Absolutely stunning location!!!! read more

As beautiful as this location may look and is, I would highly NOT recommend booking. One of my worst experiences booking a home on Airbnb and I book homes often. They list a 6 bedroom home but when we arrived they only provided us with 4 rooms initially. The host arrived to open up another room for us which was the housekeepers room. You had to walk through a dirty laundry room and laundry on the floor to get to it. Home was overbooked and we did not know other guests would be staying with us on the premise. A new family arrived almost every day at 4pm to check in. We had to deal with It all since the host was not answering their calls. The host, Zora, was extremely unprofessional when dealing with us. She never would take responsibility and always put the blame on others including us upon departure. She initially offered a refund for some of the money spent but upon leaving refused to give us a refund saying we left the Home "trashed". We left the home cleaner then when we arrived. She accused us of having more guests then we did the whole stay. She accused us of taking a refrigerator and chair when we left when we did no such thing. I'm assuming that has been resolved since I haven't heard anything else about it. After leaving, she even told me to go ahead and leave a bad review so she could reply with her response, curious to see what else she will accuse us of. The host, Zora arrived on New Year's Eve at 5pm to pick up a tv and remote in the middle of our stay. There were rat droppings (pictured) all throughout the home and the smell of a dead rat near the shuffleboard table. All together, I wish I would have never booked this home. What was supposed to be an enjoyable New Year's Eve weekend with friends and family, ended up being a nightmare of an experience... I strongly felt the need to share my experience to warn others. UPDATE- I originally posted my review on the Airbnb Tucker Peak Lodge page and not even a few hours later a whole new page was created so my original review wouldn't be posted. Airbnb only allows you to post a review once. I'm assuming this was yet again more antics from our host Zora. She obviously was in the wrong if she is going that far to have a review not post. After two week long Airbnb mediation and working with a case manager, we did receive our $500 refund. Airbnb after hearing our story strongly felt we deserved the refund. read more

Just returned for a girls trip this weekend to Julian and spent two nights at the Tucker Peak Lodge. The lodge is a great place with fantastic views. It could have been a spectacular experience. Unfortunately, there many negatives. The kitchen was advertised as a common area. I used the microwave to heat some water and it was filthy. The sink was so full of dirty dishes that I could not even rinse out my coffee cup. The trash was overflowing and had trash all around the bin on the floor in the kitchen. The inn keeper apologized for the "mess" but made no effort to clean it and the sink was still full when we left for our day in town an hour later. We had brought a jigsaw puzzle as the listing mentioned a common area/game room. There was unfolded linens covering the table and two of the chairs the entire weekend. The room was adequate, but the bed was so noisy that with every twist or turn it woke everyone in the room. There was no service in the room, no trash pick up, no clean towels, ect. on the 2nd day. Having waited so long for this girls getaway this year, we were just sad that we chose a place that was so disappointing. Can't wait to enjoy Julian again, but sadly we will look elsewhere to stay. read more

There were pros and cons in this lodge. First off, it's absolutely beautiful. The view is absolutely incredible and I was breath taken each time I went outside. Especially at night, the sky is SO clear. The sky is completely freckled in stars and all you hear is nature. It's very relaxing and comforting. There is a very large patio to hang out on also. When you walk inside, it's very lodge like. The walls are wooden panels and the ceilings are very high. Like a church. There's a cute common area. Couches, shuffle board table, board games, big screen TV. There's also a fire place in the middle of the common area, I would have loved if it was on, however, we didn't know if we were aloud to make a fire. Our room was one of the smaller rooms, that's all they had available because we called the day of to book a room. It had 2 queen size beds, a larger mini fridge, an electric fire place in between the beds, a dresser with a small flat screen TV, and a recliner. I liked it, I'm not particularly picky. We slept like babies!! I hate to say cons because we really did enjoy our stay. However, I think there are a few things that could be worked on. The first one I wouldn't exactly call it a con. Jim, the inn keeper, was very very nice. He gave us A LOT of advise, and told us great places to eat. He was definitely right. He told us where to get the best pie and ect. I'm so thankful for that. He also told us about the animals around the lodge. However, he was definitely chatty. (Which isn't exactly a bad thing) We were just looking for a nice relaxing place to be alone and away from everything, and figured a lodge in Julian would be great. If you're okay with listening to stories for hours, then this place is fine. Like I said, Jim is very nice, I think he's just very passionate about all of his hobbies and ect. that he just wants to share everything. We didn't want to ignore him either, so we listened and talked, for a long time, each chat session. Please don't take this the wrong way, we still enjoyed him. A definite con would probably be the bath area. It was downstairs (not in our room upstairs), which we knew and didn't have a problem with. However, the floor was pretty dirty. The shampoos were used and refilled, and w didn't shower the 2 nights and 2 days we were there. :( I couldn't find towels and didn't know if they came with everything. :( Also, the hand towel in the bathroom was a bit smelly. And just a tip for whoever stays at this lodge, I PROMISE it's not a bad place! It's very relaxing once you're able to get into your room alone. If you want to bring snacks, bring them, you can use the microwave in the kitchen. However, they don't provide food. They do have coffee and oatmeal for you in the morning. 1 night get away with the husband. Found them on Air BNB. Wanted to stay somewhere in nature but with a quick drive to a city. Julian was a perfect option! 6 min drive to town and got some amazing pie and snacks to bring back to the lodge. A beautiful fireplace, large table (perfect for playing games), comfy bed and pillows, large enough for one person but spacious jacuzzi tub. Spacious room and complimentary popcorn/oatmeal/coffee in room. Mini fridge and freezer. Cable tv and complimentary WiFi. If you bring wine or beer they have glasses in the community kitchen you can use. They even encourage you to use the community kitchen for whatever you need. Make breakfast yourself? Late night snack? No problem. Make yourself at home. We stayed in the Mountain Suite and it is above the garage with private entrance. There are stairs, so just more of a FYI. Host was wonderful and eager to please! We will look forward to staying again soon. Recommendations for the area: Granny's Kitchen for a delish breakfast (vegan options avail), Wynola Pizza and Bistro for Wood fired pizza (6 min other direction opposite of downtown Julian) with vegan options avail, and of course your pick of pie shops in downtown Julian. It's a hybrid is the first thing. b&B and private rooms with kitchenettes. It's not a B&B tho as in terms of the host doesn't provide food, but more no host style. A full kitchen is provided for guests to prepare food. I'd be remiss if I didn't go over the few negatives, but despite them, this is such a great experience. I got three things that are less than optimal. 1. The road,the last 30 yards are a very steep no bull one way road on a cliff. Parking is tight. If you're used to mountain roads, no biggie. But backing up when you might rarely have to, won't be a great day. 2. Carpet in two rooms I stayed was clean, but stained and worn in high traffic areas. 3. This was formerly a House, and if you stay in one of the rooms in the house, it's not noise proof at all. That being said let's get on to all the goodness. King bed suite with a full is a magnificent room with 18 foot peaked ceilings done in grand log cabin style. The hospitality of the caretaker was warm, professional and attentive to our needs. It felt like visiting family I just met. My 84 year old dad was having a hardtime with the stairs the first night in the double queen and she insisted we upgrade to that fantastic King Suite on the 1st floor for our 2nd night. Free WiFi, cable, pro shuffleboard table, games, views of a beautiful alpine like valley, economical, it's fantastic! I gather they recently changed ownership, it's a tough business, and I would wish the new owners good luck, but you don't need it. We stumbled upon this little beautiful country town, Julian, and needed a place to stay, we found Tucker's Peak Lodge on Yelp. Jim, the grounds keeper greeted us and made sure that we were well taken care of. He made our stay even more relaxing than what it was already starting to feel. Jim was knowledgeable of the area and provided us with valuable information on dining and sight seeing, this saved us so much time. The view from the balcony of the country side during the day and the amazing stars at night was alone, worth the stay. Upon our departure in the morning Jim had a pot of coffee ready for us to enjoy. We just completed our stay here in the Mountain View suite- perfect for a family of 4 with one king and two twins. The room is above the garage and pretty private as the entrance is not in the main house. In my 78 years of traveling this planet I have stayed at Five-Star Hotels, Two-Star Hotels, Flea-Bag Motels, Campgrounds and RV parks, but never have I overpaid and had such poor service and dirty, messy facilities as at Tucker Peak Lodge. The photos look great, but what they don't show is that every square inch of the place of dirty, broken and un-cared for. I could go into a litany of my complaints, but I just won't waste my time. I paid $285 for a hotel room that should be condemned by the Hotel Police. Obviously the owners don't care and the "caretaker" is too busy taking care of his brood of four children to clean the trash up. Utterly disgusting. They should change the name from Tucker Peak Lodge to Trash Peak Lodge, or clean up their act. I won't be back. read more

Recently went to Julian to see some snow . Needed a place to stay that was pet friendly . This lodge had it all. The room was huge . One King and two queen beds with a fireplace in the room and a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Each room has accessed to a keurig with a variety of coffee and tea . The care taker was great . Oh my gosh, this place was awesome. Best part of Julian for sure. We got the cabin and basically had the whole hotel to ourselves. It had a jacuzzi tub, and the whole room was massive and beautiful. The scenery around the area is secluded and beautiful too. Tucker lodge only has 6 rooms available. I think 3 are cabins and 3 are just rooms. They were all super affordable online and beautiful so you can't go wrong. The main lobby area has tons of board games and puzzles. I really just wanted to hang out at the lodge all day! The owners were super outgoing and nice. We definitely wished we could stay longer and are going to come back! read more

Best to have a 4wd for ground clearance to make the sharp transition from the road to a very steep driveway (see the scrapes and tire marks). At the top you'll find 4 marked parking spaces. The 2 at the top of the incline in front of the garage turned out to be occupied by "Innkeeper". Across from the parking area, traffic cones mark a stay out area occupied by an abandoned car and miscellaneous debris. There was no sign of how we were to enter but soon found it to be the second door up the steps on the deck. (Our room was the first storage door on the left. A person arriving after us mistakenly walked up the 2 flights of stairs to our room, realized it was not the lobby, apologized as we told him where to go.) We went to the living room and met 2 people who had already contacted the innkeeper who soon appeared from a door behind the kitchen. The kitchen is closed due to covid which is odd since many of these restrictions have been lifted where ever we travel. Would have been nice to be greeted by a fire in the fireplace. Even nicer would have been wood to put in our fireplace but we had to look for it and pack it up the stairs. The HVAC unit provided white noise to help with the snorers in the group (me), unfortunately it was off and on. On a brighter note, the beds were very comfortable. read more

This place is awesome! We were very last minute with trying to find a place to stay for Easter weekend with our two young children and Tucker Peak was so wonderful. When I called, Linda was so nice and wanted to make sure we got the most out of our stay. I told her we had a 3 and 5 year old and she made sure to get us in the family suite with a little play room, complete with toys and everything! She also went out of her way to look up a coupon for us that saved us about $100 per night, we were able to add on an extra night because of those savings! When we got there, it was the perfect little mountain getaway that we so desperately needed. The house is beautiful; tucked into the hillside, surrounded by trees. It has a rustic, cottage style to it; very homey and welcoming. The innkeeper, Jim, is so accommodating. You can tell he works hard to keep the place looking nice and keep his guests happy. Anything we needed we just had to call Jim (on his cell) and he would be there in minutes; whether it was firewood, more blankets, new cups, a map, or some tweezers for a splinter. He was even kind enough to offer to call into town to get our kids registered for the Easter egg hunt and he made sure to get our family picture on the HUGE deck overlooking the beautiful green trees below. All in all, I would have to say that we had a perfect weekend tucked away in our little mountain lodge. Its just far enough away from the little town of Julian to feel secluded, but really only about a 4 minute drive to get there for breakfast, shopping, and pies! We will definitely be going back, possibly every year! read more

We love this lodge! We stayed at Mountain View room with beautiful wood vaulted ceiling, wood furniture, a wood fireplace, lovely view of the mountain, and a jet bathtub. Room is spacious, 550 sqft, with a king bed and 2 twins. Common kitchen and playroom are added bonus. They provide coffee, tea, popcorn, instant oatmeal in room. They also provide wood for fireplace. Really nice for cold days. We will definitely return some day. Wish list: A couch, more towels, and ceramic mugs would be useful. We started with plastic cups and found mugs in the common kitchen. We have more than 2 people but only 2 towels provided. Saw older pictures with couches in the great room. They are no longer there. Wooden chairs and tables are in place. read more
