I read the reviews and frankly I had a very different experience than the 1 star folks. Sometimes I wonder what really happened. Perspective you know? I called The Painting System out after getting a referral from a friend who used them and several of their neighbors. After seeing their homes and how well they looked I added him to my list of companies I would get quotes from. Frank came out and quoted me verbally as someone else had stated, then he gave me a written quote, guess what, it was the same price unlike the other reviewer. And just so you know it was less than half of everyone else's price. They did MORE than what they quoted, not less. Our wood in some areas was in bad shape due to the previous owner not maintaining it. They went in, sanded, caulked and painted and now it looks as close to new as possible. He had to match older paint because we could only paint half of the house, and he had to use about 3 coats because the wood was so dry and in need of a protective layer. The job was done in one day, we did about 3 walk throughs, one in the beginning, one in the middle, making sure all my concerns were addressed and one at the end. My home looks beautiful, they cleaned everything up, not one speck of paint anywhere it wasn't supposed to be. Honestly for the quote I was quoted, I was leery because it was so much less. However, the job was done the way I would have expected having paid much more. Alfredo Rocks, Frank is great. Give them a try. They are affordable, and use quality products. read more

Frank is extremely personable. Unfortunately, I was paying for a painter, not a friend. His crew specialized in being fast, not thorough. We were charged an extra $500 for a lead-paint treatment, which we never saw any evidence of sanding of the old paint. The "slurry coat" must have gone on, been worked into the cracks and holes in record time, because the initial wall coat went down the same day. And the cracks and holes came back. And flaked! The walk-around found many cases of the original color showing through and flaking that had to be gone over again. The trim was a joke. After four weeks I am still finding areas to touch up. read more

I'm giving this review one-star because Frank had his crew paint an exterior of one of my properties and did a good job and stayed in communication with me. However, I then had scheduled with Frank a 2nd job and from that point on communication was slacking. He was also supposed to give me a quote on a 3rd job to paint the interior which he never provided. When following up with Frank due to the lack of communication and misscheduling of the upcoming paint job, he decided to withdraw with no explanation for canceling his proposal and lack of unprofessionalism. Two weeks before my family is to move into our new house we are having to search for a new painter who are booked out weeks to months. Frank took an exciting time in our family's life for our move for a fresh start and has now made it a stressful situation. I give 1 star and I would not personally consider him for any of our future jobs. read more

This company painted the exterior of my home and my neighbor's house across the street. The contractor was very nice and personable. The two guys who painted my house were very detailed and thorough in their work. In fact, the job was so well done that one of my friends hired them to paint the interior of their house. They were pleased with the work, but didn't feel they got as good of a price as I got. I think I got a discount because they were painting the house across the street at about the same time as mine. I am baffled by the bad reviews, but maybe there is a new crew of painters. My house was painted about 8 years ago and the paint is still holding up beautifully, as is my neighbor's house. read more

These guys came out and painted the rental we were living in. The quote was free and they fit us into their schedule in a reasonable amount of time. Based on the other quotes we got, theirs was right in the middle for pricing and they did a bunch of preparation on the house. Stay away...far away from this outfit! We specified 2 colors, one for walls and one for trim. When we came back, they had reversed them! And they claimed we wanted it that way? Then, on the walkthrough, I politely pointed out multiple areas of shoddy trim work. At that point, the guy told me that I was expecting too much of a quality job for the price. Huh? If you were going to do a substandard job, wouldn't you have needed to tell me that at the beginning? Then he got literally irate, yelling and cursing, and refused to give a promised discount. It has been 2-1/2 years since the house was painted and today I noticed the paint was chipping off and crackss on the stucco were showing up. the 12 step preparation plan is bogus. This guy quoted us verbally. Then he came back and quoted us verbally with a different number and then came back a third time and quoted us with yet another number and cited paint colors we had never discussed. When we tried to straighten out why the erratic behavior and the continually changing numbers he accused us of asking for additional discounts (we did not, he offered every discount in play) and became verbally harsh. Then he sent us an (IMO) passive aggressive email blaming the whole thing on us and withdrawing the quote(s) that he never finalized in writing in the first place. Bizarre. Avoid. read more

The Painting System was recommended by a friend of mine who was very pleased with the job performed on his personal residence. I met with Frank, he performed a 360 degree inspection of my house and advised me of the methodology of the work that would be performed and my choices in paint. After hiring him, his assistant Alfredo arrived and began the job. My two story house took approximately four days to complete. I did my 360 inspection and was impressed with the detail work performed around the foundation and eaves. They use high quality paint and it shows. As with any labor job, there are often minor details that need attention. I advised Frank of these and Alfredo returned to take care of small items in a timely manner. I was pleased with my experience using The Painting System and would recommend the company. Not sure of the negative reviews. In dealing with contractors, it often comes down to communication and personalities. I can only say my experience was positive. read more

I contacted the Painting System Company to give me a quote on an exterior painting for my home. I had seen the work they were doing on a house of comparable size down the street. Frank came out and walked around the house with me. I explained that I wanted the house to look different than the rest of the homes in the neighborhood. He gave me a quote for replacing some siding, trim and other parts of the exterior prior to painting. His quote was comparable to others I had received except that his price INCLUDED the replacement of siding and other work the others did not. The crew went right to work on it. When it came time to paint the body I asked him to do some brush outs so I could see the colors before we committed to them. The color I had picked for the body was AWFUL. Frank took it to his paint store along with the colors for the trim and fascias and together they transformed my awful color into one that was absolutely perfect! The preparation was marvelous! I had also asked them to paint some bricks in the backyard to match the house. His paint store put in an additive to help the paint adhere to the brick better. The end result is fantastic! My neighbors have stopped by and raved about how great the house looks! Thank you Frank and you crew. I have already contacted him to give us a quote for some interior painting. Don't be charmed by the owner's apparent sincerity. He might seem like an affable old friend but it will be his lousy paint job that you'll have to live with. Frank and his crew recently painted the exterior of our house. We had a fantastic experience all around! The owner is extremely knowledgeable and personable. We have wood shingle siding on our 1950's home and there were sections in very poor condition after years of neglect. They replaced several hundred square feet of shingles, sanded down others that required attention, power washed, treated, sealed, and layered several coats of paint. The crew works efficiently and thoroughly, and they were very respectful toward my family. Not only does our house look great now with the new paint, but they restored the integrity of the siding. His pricing is very reasonable and the work is quality! After the job was done, there was some trim work that I decided I wanted changed to another color, and he completed it no problem. I wish I had read these reviews prior to hiring The Painting System to paint my house... My recent experience with the owner, Frank Baldwin, was so poor, it prompted me to obtain this Yelp account and write a review to (hopefully) deter others from having the same experience. My review is not based on Frank's associate, Alfredo, but solely on Frank and his poor business practices. Alfredo was punctual, courteous, professional and very skilled with this trade. Thank you Alfredo. Frank Baldwin offers free estimates for potential jobs; there, he uses his charm, experience and warranty to prove that he's the best bid for the job. His pricing is reasonable and ballpark for what one would expect for this type of job (I had 4 other bids in place prior to selecting The Painting System). When Frank came to bid my house, he was very nice (like an old friend, as many other Yelpers have stated). He runs you through his preparation processes and what will take place during the job and the after care. I had told Frank that I would be removing my lighting fixtures outside and replacing them with new ones. Frank told me not to worry and that he would take off and replace my lighting fixtures at no extra charge if I had them ready to go during the job. We discussed further what needed to be done (caulking, patchwork, etc.) all of which Frank said he would do. A couple of days later, I decided on The Painting System to perform the job. Frank sent a text and even offered an additional $50.00 discount for choosing his company. I had my colors picked out and within a few days, Frank and Alfredo arrived at my house to begin the job. The first day lasted until about 7:30pm. I literally could not leave my house until after that time and there were numerous issues with the job. Areas were not caulked fully, paint was on my stone border around the house and on the concrete. The next day, Frank informed me that they would be done in a couple hours (this was nearing 5pm). In addition to that, Frank said he would not be hanging the new lights because he was "not any good at that." Shortly after, Frank said the job was done and requested payment. I had informed Frank that I wanted to inspect the job (as there were numerous issues I had listed and given to Frank to address). There wasn't enough time/light for me to inspect my house and Frank kept pressing me for payment and saying that, "my contract clearly states that you pay me when the job is complete." I told Frank that just because you say it's done, does not mean that the client doesn't get to look over the work, especially when you provided a warranty for work completed. I then found out that Alfredo was leaving town and Frank wanted the job to be done and to have employee paid off (understandable), but the whole process was rushed and Frank uses intimidation techniques (throwing out legal terms and contract threats) to get you to pay prior to inspection. The job should have been postponed and I would have postponed it if I had known that. Frank said that he would come back Monday (this was a Thursday) to finish the job as doors were not painted entirely. We both agreed and I paid Frank in full, minus $XXX, that Frank said he would gladly accept on Monday upon completion of the job. At this point, Frank said he'd be back on Monday and the day ended positively. Come Monday, I received an extremely passive-aggressive email from Frank, who said that he was going to charge me an additional $250 because I didn't pay him and did not allow him to finish the job. He stated that he did not hear from me (although we both verbally agreed to meeting on Monday morning and he signed his contract stating that he would be back on Monday to pick up his remaining payment). I called Frank immediately and was put to his voicemail. I left a message informing Frank of our prior agreement and that I was waiting for him to come complete the job. Frank wrote another email stating that his worker would be by shortly to pick up payment and complete any work that I wanted. I was not surprised that Frank would not be present to close this transaction. He is obviously a very unprofessional business owner who takes no accountability for the work he takes on. Alfredo showed up and I gave him the remaining amount. I have since addressed and completed all issues that Frank left behind. It would take me ages to review the overall experience, but I did my best to highlight Frank's poor business practices. He uses intimidation, false allegations and strong-arm techniques to obtain a desired outcome. Anything discussed with Frank must be put into writing because he is NOT a man of his word. I will ensure that all of my neighbors needing a paint job hear about my experience with The Painting System. Shame on you, Frank Baldwin.
