My service dog was injured while being groomed and was not able to walk for two weeks as a disabled veteran I would not allowed this agency to ever groom my service dog. Karen who identified herself as the general manager did not acknowledge the injury of my service dog. I had veterinarian expenses and the doctor did agree that my service dog was injured by the groomer. Think twice before taking you pet or service dog for grooming. read more

We took our 3-year old Australian Cattle Dog here for obedience training and were extremely happy with the progress we made in such a short period of time. Irma is extremely knowledgeable and helped us feel more confident in handling our newly adopted dog. Each week had a different focus with takeaways for us to practice at home. The facilities were kept clean and organized despite having so many dogs attend class at the same time. Signed up for the dog manners class because my 10 month old was too old for the puppy class. He's a giant breed and still a puppy, with a puppy attention span. We practiced and he could do most of the commands at home, but he was easily distracted in class. At one point I was told by the trainer "you need to get him under control". I took my male Ragdoll cat for a bath and a haircut and agreed to pay the $95 because I haven't been able to find a cat groomer since the pandemic started. (I usually take my cats to Petsmart where they do a good job and are reasonably priced but there hasn't been a cat groomer there for over a year.) When I went to pick up my cat, I was told that they had found fleas on him so they went ahead and (supposedly) used a flea shampoo, for which I was charged an extra $20! At no time did i receive a phone call to tell me of this development and to get my consent for the upcharge, they just went ahead and without my agreeing to it, did this and charged me the extra $20. Let me just say that my two cats are strictly indoor cats and although I know fleas can be brought into the home by other means, I have NEVER seen a single flea nor any evidence of fleas on either of my cats! I feel as though i was taken! As if $95 isn't exorbitant enough, they felt like they had to reem me for an extra $20. Dishonest and shameful! read more

I have taken my pets to be groomed and/or boarded and/or trained to many different types of businesses over the years... Needless to say I have built a long sturdy BASELINE for comparison purposes! I was recently referred to The Palms Resort & Spa by 2 of my neighbors who were also pleased with their experiences with (1) the Head Trainer and her training program for their dogs, as well as each of their dog's success & accomplishments during the training program. They are running a business that is set up with rules for each employee to adhere to..... a they DO FOLLOW THE RULES GIVEN TO THEM... but very very nicely conveyed to the Pet Owners!! Initially My 8 week old AKC Champion Bred Show Dog was boarding because my father as dying in Hospital for 3 weeks. I was told about trainer training Jack twice a day while boarding. I was sent photos and videos daily of his training sessions. I can still refer back to these videos for help on what to do. I also sent videos to my 45 yo son to make certain I was clear on how I was training him, so it would remain consistent!! It was perfect!! The Grooming is wonderful The front staff is wonderful They make certain all pets are vaccinated prior to admission!! I can't say enough about the intelligence of Head Trainer, Irma Bice. She helps us without being condescending... which she could easily do with all her knowledge and years of experience!! I Could keep going on and on!!! I am a Proud Mom of a well trained puppy... he minds and understands so many things!! Thanks to my neighbors for pointing me in the right direction!! The staff and leadership are very professional and genuinely care for my pet and know her. My dog is always happy to go to the Palms and always comes back in great shape and attitude. Thank you Irma Bice and the staff at The Palms Pet Resort. I had previously taken a group "Pet manners" class with Irma. Pretty sure that out of pity, Irma passed me and my dog - Akalitus. In hindsight, Akalitus was probably too young and we were too new to each other for us to take the class. Nonetheless, we both learned a lot and still use what we learned. Then came along Thor - a beast of a dog and a dog whom I'd like to think I saved from terrible conditions and danger. Short story longer - when he and Akalitus met - they were immediate best pals. Shortly before bringing him home, I received a breast cancer diagnosis. I knew that with an impending surgery, I would not be able to control Thor - a pity mix, that was already at 70'ish pounds of all puppy. I remembered about Irm's board and train program and I decided to make the investment. Thor was a keeper, but he was a strong mass of unbridled energy and we both looked like drunken sailors when we went for our walks. A week later, when I picked up Thor, Irma spent some time with me to carefully review what she had taught him. She let me practice walking him and let me ask questions. After surgery, my biggest fear was him jumping on me, and thankfully Irma broke him of that. In addition, with some extra help or a "gentle leader headcollar," he was a gentle, calm and easy dog to walk. The gentle leader takes some adjustment on the dog's part, and some consistency from the owner, but what a great tool. I'm still using it for now, until he has fully learned to calmly walk without it. The other commands she taught him where what I had previously learned in class, but with continued work and repetition - both Thor and Akalitus are doing great. Irma's recall command has been a HUGE help, as Thor was previously VERY aggressive with some smally yappy dogs in yards adjacent to ours. Now with some treats and recall - both Thor and Akalitus can leave the yappy dogs alone. I also loved that Irma sent regular updates about how Thor was doing. The updates let me see the progress he was making throughout the week. I will sing Irma's praises all day and twice on Sunday. But to anyone considering using her - do your homework - before, during and after board and train. It is NOT a week training and then done. You have to work with your dog - calmly, patiently and consistently. Trust me - you and your fur babies will appreciate Irma's training. read more

The Palms daycare exceeded my expectations. I'm almost hesitant to leave this review, because (selfishly) I want there to be a place for our Dane puppy, once she's spayed. The Palms came highly recommended by our trainer, and the quality (compared with other doggy daycares in the area) is unmatched. Pro's: -Adequate staff to dog ratio. Places are limited and booking is required. -Dogs are divided into groups, I'm uncertain exactly how they group them, but it appears they take energy level, size, and playfulness into account. -Staff is exceptional and attentive! They regularly offer pets and play with the dogs, as well as refill water, and ensure the dogs don't overheat. (These seem like things you'd expect, but apparently interacting with dogs, is not a requirement at all play cares). -Staff really get to know your dog. They consistently offered info. on whether she played well, who she played with, occasionally they had pictures of my pup and her friends. I also LOVED the weekly report card. -Clean facility, wonderful outdoor play area with a sandpit for digging! -Exceptional staff! -Reasonable pricing Cons: None read more

We would never board our dogs anywhere else! They pay attention to every detail. Our yorkies were never apprehensive about being left and were their usual little selves when we would go to get them. They were always clean and happy. If they got sick during the stay we were called immediately and had them seen by Dr Krick at hill country next door. Then we would get follow up calls to let us know how they were doing. It's clean, there are several boarding options and the staff was very organized and caring. I have used The Palms for boarding my 3 special needs dogs and the service and quality of care that my pets experienced while there is unparalleled. When it comes to my pets I can be a little particular and The Palms made sure that all of my specifications were followed out to a T. Customers are able to bring their own pet food, beds, medications, and toys (all of which are cataloged so that you get them back when you leave). As I said before, all of my dogs are special needs and need to be on medications for different things (seizures, allergies, and arthritis) and regardless of how many times medications need to be given they do not charge extra like most other facilities. I love that they have different sized kennels to choose from and allow you to board 2 pets in the same space. I've utilized the swanky "Suites" which are in a much quieter area of the building so it is great for dogs that get stressed out easily like my Maggie. They are 100% tiled and have Kuranda dog beds as well as TV's! I usually board my pitbull (Maggie) and my shih tzu (Little Shitzu) together in a medium "Suite" and they have more than ample room to do their own thing. For my husky (Toby) I like to use the "Cabanas" which come in a variety of sizes and also come standard with Kuranda beds. They are a great size and although are a little louder still suit my pup just fine. On the pick up day I typically opt for bathing my dogs. Getting a bath is great, but it also means that if you don't have to pay for boarding the last day! I believe they call it an exit bath and your pet can get bathed, a nail trim, and ears cleaned all for $35 including the last day of boarding regardless of what time you pick them up. SCORE! The staff is great and they always make sure that your pet is being cared for like it were their own. When I come to pick up my dogs (and all of their stuff) the staff always tell me how great they were and any cute little idiosyncrasies my pets may have. I would not hesitate to recommend The Palms to anyone because I truly think that it is the best boarding facility in town. read more

I was very nervous about leaving my 6yr old Aussie somewhere new. I called The Palms Pet Resort and was immediately helped from a very friendly staff member which was a good sign for me. After researching a little more and reading some great reviews, I made the leap of faith and booked a weekend for my big baby Duke! Duke has separation anxiety and I used to board him with his Vet's office when they offered boarding, but he would always come home very anxious and shaken up. I know he was in good hands, but it still makes you a little sad. When leaving Duke, we walked into a VERY clean lobby at TPPR and for being a doggy daycare/ boarding, it was rather calming. Duke walked in confident and curious, but by no means freaking out like he normally does. The staff was quick to help check us in and inventory his personal belongings to help insure we would get them back when we pick him up. Another staff member came to the lobby to pick up Duke and he took off very happy which made me feel at ease. Pick up was great as well! We called to request a late check out as we ran late to come back home and they had all of his items ready to go when we got back along with a VERY clean and happy doggy ! Duke is our big baby and leaving him in good hands is a priority to us! The Palms is a fantastic place to board or groom your pet. The people are friendly and very customer service focused. My pet absolutely loves this place. He goes crazy as soon as we pull into the parking lot and that tells me they treat him right. Their doggie play care is loads of fun for the pups and the price is competitive. For boarding, I still prefer Rob Cary, but this place is closer to us. Keep up the great work, guys! read more

In my opinion The Palms is good for older dogs. I called several days before taking my puppy in for the first time. She hid herself under the chairs for most of the morning ( per one of the workers) . When I went to pick her up one of the girls said she played well all morning. I decided to try again but this time I was told that she was too young and that I need to invest in some training sessions. I was shocked to hear this for several reasons. One, my puppy is currents enrolled in training classes. Two, what would lead someone to suggest that, did my puppy do something wrong? Overall, I didn't feel welcome and I was constantly concerned about my baby and the staff left a bad taste. I received a call last week from the owner. I am impressed with how serious they take their reviews. After our conversation I am going to give them another chance and hope to review them on better circumstances. read more

Boarded my playful loving small dog for 4 days. They took her collar off and put their own noose on..thought that was odd. I called several times to check on her, of course they say she's fine.. Picked her up, she was very subdued and not playful. She didn't eat for several days. She Ran and hid every time she saw me with a water bottle. It's been 1 1/2 months and she still hides at the sight of a water bottle or hears the word "ware". I'm thinking they probably forced water down her throat from a water bottle. It disgusts me thinking about how terrified she must have been there all lone at the hands of those cold hearted creeps!! read more

Can I rate less than a one star? I had my two dogs in there for 2 days and when I picked them up my yellow lab had a knot on top of her head. They didn't know what happened? Yeah right. Both of my dogs acted somewhat skiddish and they weren't that way before they went there. The vet said that she had to of hit her head extremely hard, they knew nothing. Don't buy it. My dogs are friendly and loveable and I could tell something happened while they were there that possibly scared them. Will not take them back there ever again, also a lot more expensive then boarding them at Petsmart. At Petsmart they came back happy and healthy!!!! read more

The only place in town I will take my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels to be groomed. My two pups are vastly different in personality - one is outgoing and feisty the other is calm and mild mannered - but The Palms always takes such good care of both. They come back looking like clean/fresh little gentlemen and take a good nap upon arriving home. I'm sure it's a little more costly than other places I could get them groomed, but they do such a damn good job that I don't mind paying a bit more. My dogs are always excited to go there, which must be a good sign! read more

The price is higher than other day cares, but the service is much, much better. Several trained professionals oversee the doggie day care (actual trainers versus part-time help) and the difference between them and the other area day cares is apparent. My large mixed breed boxer does well here and comes home exhausted. I've had a very negative experience with another dog day care where my dog was hurt because there was not enough supervision. Did the week board and train for my 17 week old German shepherd. Before the training, he was definitely a handful. He would continuously bite me and my boyfriend and would run off whenever he would want to. We were going on vacation and thought this would be a perfect time for training/day care. It was all the way in Helotes, and I live closer to the South Side of San Antonio, but let me tell you... the drive is worth it. When I got there, everybody was super nice and welcoming. The trainer met with me and gave me a tour of the facility. While she was giving me the tour, I didn't notice that a worker had taken my puppy and started the process. I didn't get to tell him goodbye or that I'd be back soon (yes, I'm that type of dog mom). The trainer said she would send me pics and updates of his progress while he was at the facility. She kept her promise, and that's exactly what she did. Everyday, I would receive a new video or picture of his progress. It was adorable seeing a new video. I also would check in on the video cam app they provided. When we got our puppy back, he was a whole new dog. He knows how to sit, down, stay, wait, relax, and leave it. He no longer bites, unless he's trying to tell us he's uncomfortable by nipping. Our trainer will message us every once in a while to see his progress, or check in to see if we need anything else. Never will I take my dog here again, dropped my dog off for a weekend as I have before and she never had any problems. When I picked her up she was covered in pee and the smell was strong. When I called to ask when she was taken out last I kept being put on hold and was told she was taken out every 2 hours. I do not believe this at all, she has never had problems like that, never has to go that often and when I brought her home she was completely fine. My dog is potty trained and will wait to go outside to pee. read more

This place is the best! I took my pets, multiple cats and my dog, to The Palms for years. The only reason I no longer do is due to relocation out of state. My cats went for boarding, dogs for everything they offer - grooming, boarding, daycare, and training. The staff is always knowledgeable, extremely helpful and caring, and they genuinely love my best pals! My dog was always super happy to spend a day there, whether it was a play day or a spa day. He even liked having the groomer paint his nails! They let you take tours of the facility anytime, and it's always super clean, it even smells good. I was taking my pet to be groomed at this so called high end grooming spa. They almost cut my pets area where he was neutered off . He is a very hairy dog but that is no excuse .. He had a swollen red blistered area looked like a burn .. He could not walk for 4 days only a couple of steps .. He was in so much pain that he would not even drink his water or eat his food . I had to bring his food and water to him.. Yes they took care of the vet visit . But my poor dog was in so much pain .. I don't understand how you can charge 100.00 dollars for grooming and not know how to properly groom a male dog .. Very very disappointed .. This is the second incident at this spa. The front desk are non friendly and act snobby and not friendly .. Also when my pup was about 7 months . I took him there for boarding and picked him up with a bloodshot red eye . They didn't know how it happen .. So I just used the grooming service after that . After this incident I will never step foot in this place again.. Just beware ... The Palms Pet Resort is The best place for boarding and doggie daycare in San Antonio. All the staff really love the pets, and you can tell by how excited our dogs are when they go. They also have staff in the building 24 hours a day, and that is why we will never board our dogs anywhere else. Also, they have been there for over 5 years, and the place NEVER smells bad. We have checked out some of the brand new places that smell like dirty wet dog right when you walk in the door. The Palms doesn't even smell in the back part of the kennel when they gave us a tour! They also have a Vet right next door if there is an emergency. We have been really happy we found them. read more

Please read if you love your pet. What you view on the outside of the resort does not tell the story of how your pet will be neglected! We research boarding facilities very carefully and thoroughly before boarding our girls. Never in their 14 and 10 years have we experienced anything so horrific as this facility! Thought we had found a real gem, close to our vacation destination in Bandera. We were 30 minutes away from our little chihuahua and American bull dog while they were being neglected! Our 9lb chihuahua pranced into to Palms resort on 7-22-17, happy and healthy. I called on 7-25-17 to check on both of the girls, with a "yes " they are doing fine! At pickup on 7-28-17 the front staff said our little one had soiled her bed! Alarms went off in my head as this has never happened in her 14 years. Our happy healthy love was carried out, which I thought was odd, but as we soon saw, she was to weak to walk and looked like she was on deaths door. We took her immediately to our vet, which stated she was very dehydrated and was in kidney failure. After being hospitalized there from Friday to Monday her odds were not good. We transferred her to a specialist hospital which treated her case very aggressively! We got our fragile, never have I seen a dog so frail back after a few days. I syringe fed her for 4 days until she could eat on her own. Her weight from drop off to kennel stay went from 9lbs to 6.8lbs. Today our little girl has gained her weight back she is happy and healthy BUT has irreversible kidney damage thanks to the THE PALMS PET RESORT! We talked to the owner about the neglect but he stated "she's old anyway" ! So he had already written her off because of her age. His attitude is inexcusable and could care less about how your loved one is cared for during their stay. read more

I like everything about this kennel. I've tried out several other kennels in town but none come close. The staff is friendly and the facility is very clean. I like the fact that the dogs are taken outdoors many times throughout the day to poop/pee rather then just letting them go inside the kennel. Even after long trips, I return to a clean and happy dog, rather than a stinky zombie dog. They also have "play care" during the week where your dog can play all day with other dogs and get plenty of exercise. Highly recommended. read more

The Palms Pet Resort is an excellent place to take your pets. I take my three dogs to doggie day care on small dog days. They love it. They get very excited when they see when we are going to the Palms. The part I love is that the Palms has separate days for small dogs apart from other dogs My chihuahuas can play and romp and I don't have to worry about them getting hurt. I have also boarded my dogs at the Palms. The staff are always happy see my pets and greet them by name. The place is always spotlessly clean.
