She collected them over the years and carefully wrapped each one away at the end of the season. Now many of them reside on my Mom's tree and hopefully, someday (in the very distant future), on mine. In the meantime, I've started my own collection. Sure, I can buy made-in-China crap at any number of places but for true handmade heirloom pieces, Alpine Gift Haus fits the bill. They're located on the second floor of the Cedar Creek Settlement (you know, the buildings with the sticky-sweet wine?) and sell Christmas stuff all year round. Everything is made in Germany, the Czech Republic or Poland and the craftsmanship is top notch. So are the prices! In addition to ornaments, they have other Christmas home decor, German woodcarvings, Advent calendars and candles and even a few German candies. The owner is proud of her stock and will help you find the perfect gift for someone or yourself.

If you love those glass ornaments that you see at those Christkindl Markets but you didn't want to schlep them home, fear not. They can all be had here. I was very impressed by the selection of not only ornaments, but also hand-carved wooden "smoker" dolls. I was eyeing up several of them, but scared away by the prices. They have beautiful mangers and several wooden candle "spinners" that turn from the heat given off by the candles. Super cool, but also very expensive. This kind of quality always is. Everything is made in Germany and absolutely authentic. Prices here are on par with other German Christmas decor outlets. There is also a small selection of Polish items and even some liquor filled chocolates. Get some for your Oma. She'll love them!

Whether it's Christmas time (the best) or any other time of year and I need a tree, the OMalley…read moreFamily Farm is our favorite must visit place. Not only is the farm family run (by a spectacular multigenerational family I might add), but it's filled with all the magic and mystery of the season in the best ways possible. I can't imagine the stress of running a seasonal operation, one where people only consider the here and now and don't recognize the YEAR LONG process that organizing, setting up, planning, creating takes but the O'Malleys do it flawlessly and every year surprise and delight us beyond compare. We love kicking off the holiday season with a trip to the farm to pick up a Christmas tree but more than that, we love the festive and unique experience they offer for us and our three little kids. Let's start with the FREE inclusions...big bonfires, pictures with Santa, hot chocolate and popcorn, shots of Jameson for the moms and dads just trying to stay warm this and every holiday season, funny and cute little holiday headbands (which are such a hit with the littles), holiday photo ops, and the scavenger hunt hayride, which is a family favorite. Then add on the special little extras like snacks (pretzels, churros, chili?!), and s'mores, and even PHOTOS WITH SANTAS REINDEER?!! It's truly like seeing your childhood dreams become a reality. If you haven't had a chance to visit, please do! You and your children (or just your inner child) will thank you!

Their flowers are beautiful. I get a bouquet every year for Valentine's Day. This year, I was feeling under the weather, was leaving work early when my boyfriend said the delivery window was 8-5. I called FFD and spoke with a staff member who let me know we couldn't reroute the delivery but they would make me a new bouquet to pick up. The staff member was so patient as I had almost completely lost my voice. I showed up to their shop with my mask on and a barely audible hello. They knew exactly who I was and got my package ready for me. I love that they partner with other small businesses to create fun bundles. The candle accompanying the flowers smelled amazing and the chocolates were delicious. Over a week later and the flowers look just as good as on day one! They also have fun workshops to build your own bouquets and seasonal wreaths. Highly recommend them as a quality, ethical florist.

Once I started working with them directly I knew they were going to help me make my day absolutely perfect. Kaylee was so helpful and always willing to mock up new ideas with me and that was always appreciated. The process was amazing from the very beginning and all our florals looked STUNNING. My bridal bouquet was so gorgeous and she took every detail I gave her to make it how I wanted. We did not have a ton of florals but we had candles on our tables and we received compliments all night of how elegant everything looked. Their team was so quick to help make adjustments on the wedding day to make sure everything looked beautiful and it did. I absolutely loved working with flowers for dreams!
