Laura Vidal and Harry Cummins were integral parts of Greg Normand's Frenchie restaurant prior to deciding they'd go travel the world but also spread the bistronomy style of cooking to the rest of the world. Harry being the CDC while Laura being the lead sommelier have been hitting New York, Montreal, and most recently Oakland where their friend Austin is from. Austin also cooks at restaurant Bones in Paris. So you can see that this is a cool crew to get food and drink from. Not only that they pulled in the likes of Charlie Hallowell of Pizzaiolo in Oakland, Rajat Parr of Sandhi Wines/Domaine de la Cote, and wine makers Even Lewanowski and Eric Railsback to fill out the roster. A crazy amount of talent. So we ended up with:
-Amuse of Roe escabeche
-Halibut, Clams, Blood Orange
-Dungeness crab, grapefruit, artichokes, crushed toasted rice
-Lamb tartare, bone marrow
-Uni, fermented butternut squash, kumquats
-Caluliflower, sweetbread, poached eggs, Perigold black truffle
-Rib eye
-Apples, Penrose Tonic Ice
Boozes:
-Stephane Tissot, Cremant du Jura
-Francois Raveneau Chablis 2001
-Linden Street Burning Oak Black Lager
-Evan Lewandowski FOx Hill Vineyard Chilion 2012
-Domaine de la Cote "Bloom Fields" 2011
-Les Pallieres, Gigondas 1999
-Neige Apple Ice Wine 2011 Quebec
Everything was awesome. You can sometimes put a bunch of talent in the same room and get a pile. This was certainly not the case. Food and wine were both fantastic, but more than that the people and hospitality shined. Laura, Harry and Eric were particularly friendly and just made the whole ambiance. Unfortunately they're headed to Kyoto next so unless you're going to jump on a plane it will be hard to catch them. However if they do swing by your hood, make sure and go. It's amazing. read more
