Loved the haircut I got from here and no doubt that is due to Danielle's patience and care. Despite my vague sense of what I wanted (some blend of two different pictures), and my inability to articulate how I saw them coming together, she helped me break down specific attributes I was looking for, provided some much appreciated recommendations, and helped me achieve the style I thought was just not feasible based on the last place I went. Recently I've been trying to keep a routine which allows the natural curl of my hair to really be drawn out and more defined. With this shift, and since the routine, and curly hair, is all pretty new to me, I had plenty of concerns. Danielle listened to each concern and was clearly keeping them in mind the entire time. Even after the curl in my hair all but disappeared once wet because it's on the finer side, she remained cognizant of how it would curl up again so the length and shape would still look great. I was such a nervous wreck going into this experience, yet to acheive any real style in my newfound curly hair (and afraid I'd have to spend $200 to do so), but Danielle made it so easy and left me with a wonderful result. Guy with the face tattoos f'd me up. Shaved my crown clean off (where your "cowlick" is). Showed him a picture, didn't come close. Had to do a hard reset and went to Anthony at Razorbacks in Long Beach. He gave me great advice on how you can tell a barber is bad, like how face tats shaved my crown. That's the sign of a crappy barber. Anyway, I had to shave my head, that's how horrible the cut was. Don't get a cut from the guy with face tattoos. I decided to give this place a try on new year's eve. Long story short, I was unhappy with the outcome of my hair. It was far from what I wanted it to look like. But the reason why I am still giving them a high rating is because when I called them a few days later to let them know that I was not satisfied with the work done on my hair, they immediately booked me with Suzie(the owner). They were so kind and understanding of the situation and fixed my hair for free. That is what you call AMAZING customer service. I'll definitely be back in a month or so for a touch up. So I'm going to be honest.. I haven't paid for a haircut in about 10 years. Normally I just shave my head and bam! I'm done! But this time around I decided to not shave my head for a few months. But then it started to look a bit out of control (to my standards. Lol) and my cousins wedding was just a few days away, so I decided to bite the bullet and pay for a haircut. I was almost having an anxiety attack just trying to figure out which barber shop too go to. So I asked one of my coworkers, since he lives in Torrance, where he goes and he suggested The Parlor. Worked out cause it's really close to me. My first visit was a fail. Apparently I went on the day that all the kids wanted to look fresh before going back to school. So I set an appointment for the next day. So I come in on a Tuesday and was offered a drink after I checked in. I met my barber (sorry! I forgot you name.. This is what happens when I wait to do reviews. Lol), I told her I just wanted to clean up the side of my head and not to touch the top. She was very social. I think the whole time we just talked about eating places. Lol! She cleaned me up very well. Definitely did a good job. Price: I think it was $23.. This is the main reason why I shave my own head. Lol. Service: really good and friendly. I didn't tell them I haven't been to the barbers in a long time, but they made me feel comfortable. But I'm going to go back to shaving my own head. Excellent work, great value, comfortable vibe! When my husband and I moved to the area, we were in need of a new hair salon. We tried a number of cheap places to stay within our budget. Eventually, I got so tired of the erratic quality at Supercuts that I looked on Yelp to find a new place. I found Suzie at Eddie's (the previous iteration of The Parlor Shop) and was delighted. Suzie is great. She's an experienced and skilled craftsperson who takes pride in doing a good job. Sure, it's more expensive than Supercuts, but The Parlor Shop is leaps and bounds superior. My husband stayed with Supercuts for a few more rounds, but after a terrible haircut that left him looking like an angry army sergeant, I recommended he try Suzie. The rest is history. I'm more of a gabber - my husband is no nonsense. We both appreciate Suzy's great work and easygoing personality. We happily followed her to her new business, The Parlor Shop. A huge shoutout to Amanda for fixing my beautiful disaster. On Saturday, I returned to my usual place for my usual short cut with lots and lots of choppy layers; only, I found out that would be my last. Layers weren't cut right, I got bangs when I didn't ask for nor want them, and the entire time, the chick just kept apologizing while simultaneously continuing to murder these precious locks. With some googling around I stumbled upon this place the next day, and was able to be accommodated with an afternoon appointment and that's where it all began. In all seriousness, I didn't think my hair was fixable without having to cut it shorter, which I did by Amanda's recommendation anyways, but I trusted her and am not regretting that decision. She knows how to razor cut like you wouldn't believe; she listens and asks for your opinion as she's cutting. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Don't want to get into fine detail but terrible customer service at the front desk. They need a big time attitude check. I called for an appointment and specified it was for a one year old. Came in and they said they couldn't do it and looked clueless af, and didn't know what to do. I then asked if they were going to do it or not as they were just giving us blank stares. We then asked why they even took our appointment. Guess the owner couldn't handle a real question, and told us not to get crazy. WTF? No wonder they had to move locations and change their name. This is second time we took my 15 year old boy here. First visit was awesome.Tony cut my sons hair and did a good job. My son was very satisfied. We came back today to get another cut coz tonight is homecoming. Same cut. But the only difference is the design he wanted which was 2 lines. See picture attached. Tony changed us $40.00 for my sons haircut. I was so shocked that I had the receptionist asked him again and came back with the same amount. Wow! How can that be to take advantage of us like that??? We finally found a good place and then he over charges with $40 bucks a haircut for a 15 year old that was supposed to have a discount already??? Gotta give some more props to Nathan and Noah. My cut was excellent as always, but I threw Nathan a curve ball to see if he could give my 6-month-old boy his first hair cut (on the fly). Given that Nathan does not specialize in baby cuts, he did a phenomenal job and since it was my boys 1st cut, he truly hooked me up! Noah played Thomas the Train on his phone to keep the baby distracted while Nathan did his thing (scissor cut). Afterwards, Noah printed out the babies first cut certificate which was very useful for the 30 pictures we took with the baby later. We got home and mommy was happy. Which was the final test. These guys are always reliable, professional and never disappointing. read more

The Parlor Shop has been open for some time now and every time I'm in town I pass by it thinking I should go there. But I didn't. Instead I've gone to those chain haircut places like Super Cuts and Fantastic Sams and let me tell you...there's nothing super nor fantastic about them. Every hair cut I have gotten, I've been disappointed. So today I decided to give The Parlor Shop a chance. I'm glad I did. I was met by Rosa. She introduced herself and was very polite. She asked me how I wanted my hair cut, and I told her...no problem. She cut my hair EXACTLY the way I wanted. She did not rush, which was good because as soon as clients walk in, some hair stylists rush and then mess up, but Rosa was FANTASTIC. To the Parlor Shop, don't let Rosa get away. The price was good, no complaints there. The money was worth it. Of course it's not too expensive, but for the price and tip, it was worth it. I will be returning to get my haircut on a regular bases. The Parlor Shop definitely has my business. Glad I took a chance with them! read more

I've never had any issues making appointments and this shop has never had any issues keeping the appointment. I used to get my hair cut with James for a little over a year, but he left the shop. I did a walk in with Rosa in January and she was great. I decided to make a 4:00 appointment with Rosa Thursday March 21st. As I walked in at 3:56 I noticed that someone that had walked in ahead of me was sat down with Rosa immediately. Suzie came by and asked me to wait for 5 minutes for Rosa to finish. In my head I started to think ... wait a sec, haircuts don't take 5 minutes. It'll take her at the fastest 15-20 minutes. Usually it's about a 20-30 minute cut. So I proceeded to ask the man at the desk if the guy that is getting his hair cut with Rosa had an appointment or was he just a walk in. He said he didn't know and I asked for the manager. He pointed to Suzie, so I walked over there to her. She was working on a client. Well here is when things become very unprofessional and the value of the customer experience hit a new low for me. I asked the same question which was if the man was a walk up or if he had an appointment. I also asked if he was a walk-up why he was seated before me although I had an appointment at 4:00. She seemed really irritated at the fact that I was interrupting her time with her client (remember she was pointed out as the manager). She said "can't you see I'm busy. Just have a seat and it'll be 5 minutes." The exchange continued with me pressing for a more appropriate answer as to why I wasn't seated and she responded with "stop being a baby. Just sit down and wait 5 minutes." I couldn't believe my ears. WOW. I've never felt so disrespected as a customer. I said, "I'm trying to talk to you calmly and you go and disrespect customers by calling them names?" She then proceeded to raise her voice and say "what do you want me to do? Tell the customer to get out of the chair. Why don't you go talk to her?" LOOK SUZIE. You're the MANAGER. It's not my job to do your job. She said, "You're wasting my time. Can't you see I'm busy with a customer?" She looks at her customer and asks if she agreed with which the customer clearly felt uncomfortable getting in between this exchange. Another stylist, who I don't know the name of, decided to say to me "Can't you see she's with a customer. You're being disrespectful to the customer." Clearly this shop needs to learn how to talk with customers. Suzie finishes it off by saying, "you need to leave. If you don't leave I'm going to have you escorted out." This whole time this was happening I kept saying to her that I feel offended, how disrespectful she was, and how rude she sounded. I knew there's not much I could do, so I informed them that I would be posting a review about the incident. Suzie later calls me to give a very unapologetic apology. She cast blame on her bad day, having a newborn, just getting back to work, Rosa, that I should have waited because she was busy, if I would have stayed I would have gotten a discount etc ... but never owned up to her own mistakes. She could have said, "hey I'm sorry for calling you names, it was very unprofessional of me to do so." I ended the call because I was tired of the excuses with "hey I'm happy with my life and wish you a good life." Done with this place. I don't recommend it unless you like getting called names or exposing yourself to verbal abuse, but if you're into that kind of stuff make sure you get Suzie. read more

I recently moved to Torrance from KoreaTown and wanted to find a new stylist rather than driving all the way back to the heart of LA/Hollywood. After reading some of the reviews I decided to give the place a chance and glad I did. The location has a nice vibe and they also serve water and beer while you wait for your appt. As guy I'm not too critical on my cut, but am particular and I feel for the money and style this place is worth it. I have been to a couple salons that charged me $40-45 for a mens cut and style (tip not included) and Amanda here did a great job for $27+TIP. I can say that i'll be back. read more

The first time I visited this please was about 2 weeks or so ago and the haircut I felt was very good. Staff was ok, they wouldn't let me look at the style as they were cutting it which I thought was weird. Then today I call to make an appointment and go in at scheduled time. When I go in I sniffle my nose and the stylist turns around and says "oh no are you sick?" I responded with, "last week I was on vacation and caught something so had to go on antibiotics which wasn't the best for my vacation! But I got done with the antibiotics so decided to rejoin the world. Haha" The stylist then says "oh no I have a one year old at home and I normally ask people to wear a mask" I say "well then I guess I can wear a mask for you but I'm cleared by my doctor I didn't have the plague" she says "sorry we are out and I can't take you!" Really?!? I said ok well then who can cut my hair? No one she said....no one wants to get sick here so no one will take you. Needless to say I walked out extremely embarrassed. And the thing that kicks me is if I said that I had allergies they would've been fine, but since I thought she was trying to make conversation and I tell my experience of what happened to me last week on vacation I get asked to leave. I'm a sales manager at a department store and I can't even begin to comprehend asking my customer to leave and deny service. I could understand a little better if I came in hacking up a lung, sneezing and clearly looking sick but even that is a stretch. She didn't even look at me heard me sniff my nose and all went downhill from there. As I was leaving she asked if I wanted to reschedule and I said no thanks I won't be back. So word of warning if you feel a little blah or have allergies or sneeze in this place they will deny service. Maybe that's why they offer alcohol to everyone 21 and over. Won't be back I can tell you that, extremely embarrassing As we can see from the OWNERS comments below this is not a place of customer service. I never once called her rude in my review above, however she stated I did. Yet i guess i am very (as the owner calls me) selfish for going into a place of business after taking antibiotics. Went here for at least 2 years and not sure why. I struggled finding people that wouldn't destroy my hair. They didn't do too bad at first. They gave me a free beer while I waited, so that kept me coming, and also offered a free shampoo. Over time, they got stingy with the shampoo and stopped offering. The staff didn't seem to care anymore. Some nice people disappeared, and some turned grumpy or unpleasant. The short older Lady with short dark hair is the worst. She is rude and talks down to you like your an idiot. I asked what she recommended and she refused to have any general opinion whatsoever. I'd rather go to Supercuts or a barber college than go back here. 2 stars because their prices aren't bad and they didn't always suck. read more

My sister and I came in a couple days ago for a normal trim. The staff is not very friendly. It was very over priced as well. The total was 55 dollars (not including tips) and they simply cut off 4 inches of hair for each of us. Did not style or wash or anything. Also did not face towards the mirror so I could not see how it looked. I would have preferred it shorter but since I could not see how it looked I could not tell the staff. This is my go to shop when someone screws up my hair, just a trim or I need a drastic change I can proudly sport in public. First off they are always accommodating, even if they're busy, willing to move people around to do anything they can to get you in and looking fabulous! The staff are so funny, inviting and warm. They're always smiling, happy and cracking jokes - that's the kind of environment I definitely want to be in when sitting in a chair stationary for a while. And lastly their work is always on point - I never walk out disappointed and if they see you're not so happy they will gladly fix. That's great service if you ask me!
