In the past, breeders seemed to always have a puppy or two available right away, but this year, due to the plandemic, dogs are scarce and you have to join a waiting list. And the standard practice seems to be that getting on the list requires a deposit. So I checked out quite a few breeders within a couple hundred miles of Chicago, and concluded that The Paw Pad Doodles would meet our needs. They are clearly serious about their work. Their prices aren't the cheapest, but not the worst either, and, it takes a lot of labor, capital, and land to raise puppies. They seem organized and professional. When we made the deposit in February, they said we'd likely have a puppy by summer, or perhaps would have to wait until fall. When in April a litter became available for us, they sent pictures, videos, and some behavioral test results. A choosing visit was scheduled, at which point (due to our place on the waitlist) we had 3 pups to choose from. We got, I think, an honest assessment of each, and got to play for a while with each. Of course all puppies are cute, but it wasn't too difficult to decide on the one who was neither too shy nor too wild. Then, a couple weeks later we drove down again and picked her up. Of course with puppies part of the deal is that they will create some chaos and not behave as their people wish. And Deer Creek is, well, a long drive for a young puppy. But I thought The Paw Pad Doodles did a fine job for us. read more

Christine and her team are great & made it easy during the process of adopting our new family members. They are extremely Conscientious and caring of their dogs and puppies. Not a good experience. No formal interview. Puppies are always available. Paperwork is very basic, no pedigree or paperwork provided to confirm results of genetic defects. Breeder cares only about profit not the best interest of the dogs. Contract does not cover different scenarios of the dog is not a great fit. read more
