Chef Karen and her sons are lovely people, and you can tell that they really care about sharing good food with their community. It's so exciting that The Pepper Pott has a new home at Lost & Found in East Nashville, and my husband and I recently ordered dinner from that location for delivery. We've tried their curries and jerk chicken and love them, but we were in the mood for wings this time! Uber Eats had them on a BOGO deal, so we got two orders of party wings, plus a couple of sides of rice and plantains. Delivery was quick, and our food arrived hot and fresh and delicious! I was honestly disappointed with my experience. I ordered food for an event after previously having this caterer at Vanderbilt events and really enjoying it, so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the food we received did not reflect that same quality. The chicken was extremely hard and dry, almost as if it had been over-fried, and the plantains were overcooked as well. For the price paid, the quality-to-cost ratio just did not feel appropriate. Multiple guests at my event also commented on the food quality, which was embarrassing given the expectations I had going into it. My friend and I tried their Salmon Sandwich from the food truck at the 12th South Farmers Market and we had NO words. My friend literally said that this sandwich was lifechanging. The salmon is super flavorful and moist and flaky (it doesn't come in a patty but rather just a pile of freshly cooked salmon). The pineapple and sweet chili sauce add a sweetness that pairs perfectly with the meat and with the sweet Hawaiian bun, and there is a nice kick of spice that rounds out the flavor. The only note we had was it would've been brought to the next level with some fresh cabbage slaw on top to add crunch and cut the heat a bit (not that it was too spicy). Would definitely try other options from this truck, and get that sandwich again for sure! Although technically not a restaurant (yet), they are my favorite place to eat in Nashville. They have a food truck and recently opened up counter service at Taylor Street collective. So, too, must I recognize that at the time of service/eating, there was (likely) no edges or wigs within a five mile radius of Citizen Kitchen because, thanks to TPP, they would have all been snatched. So, yes: as implied above, I know nothing about this place as a food truck. I came here on a lazy Saturday in early summer* in search of the latest Citizen Kitchen star. Experience has taught me that if a food concept is bubbling up in that shared kitchen in West Nashville, something good is soon and sure to be in your belly. Such was the case with TPP. I called ahead, made my order, drove west, and sat in the lot across from the kitchen. And, I sat. And, I sat a little more. It turns out, I had jacked up the ordering process. One of the fellows behind the Pott, came outside to talk to me, clarify what I wanted, and got back to the business of making some food dreams come true. He could have written me off. He didn't. Class all the way. Within an appropriate amount of my from my real order, he came back outside to give me a heavy bag of food and a bottle of sorrel. I broke all kinds of speed limits to get to my house to indulge. Ridiculous. The curry chicken (I don't know if it's still on the menu) was as spiced, seasoned, tender, and decadent as I'd *ever* had. The sorrel (despite being bottled) was homemade, spiced, flavorful, and magenta in color so it was a pleasure for more senses than just taste. Accompanying my protein was a generous amount of sauteed cabbage and a brick of 4-cheese mac & cheese. Honestly, I didn't know what to eat first and in what order. Everything was so good I, both, wanted to eat it all immediately and savor every bite. I think I went into a bit of a trance while eating. It's THAT good. Like I said, it's been a minute. I don't know if the menu is the same. I don't know if the recipes have changed. I don't know if the truck experience is that much different from the (sort of) brick and mortar. I've gotten food from the food truck many times and it's always great. I so accustomed to the food at a Caribbean place being great but the service just being ok. I have to say Pepper Pott is a breath of fresh air because not only is the food good but the service is amazing. There was an error with my order because of the ordering system the day I ordered and they corrected the issue with no excuses, promptly. I really appreciated that as I was looking forward to having the food. I would highly recommend the salmon sandwich, the Mac and cheese and the plantains. SO. FLAVORFUL. O.M.G. Heard about The Pepper Pott on Yelp and after seeing pictures on Instagram, I had to try it asap! Especially love that they have contactless ordering and curbside pickup! Super easy online ordering/payment and pick up was quick and ready when promised. Everything was neatly packed and the food was still warm by the time we drove back home to eat. There's no indoor seating, it's a takeaway set up, but we saw a few other patrons eating in their parked cars. Service was very friendly and the guy who helped us wore a mask. On our first trip, we ordered the jerk chicken and curry chicken. Both were excellent! Hubby described the jerk chicken as "fall off the bone." Our sides were fried plantains, 4 cheese baked mac, veggie fried rice and rice & peas. All were tasty, but the plantains were the standout for me. We also tried one each of the pastries: pine tart (pineapple filling), ground beef patty and 4 cheese roll. Again, all were delicious! They threw in a caribbean lemonade and sorrel (hibiscus tea) that were the perfect things to top off our meals! I seriously dream about the fried plantains from The Pepper Pott. Whatever entree you choose, do yourself a favor and add on fried plantains. Add an extra side, too. You will love them. I promise. Now, on to the rest of the meal. I've tried the jerk chicken, curry chicken, and oxtails, and they are all wonderful! You get very generous portions when you order a plate (plus you can choose plantains as one of your two sides when you get a plate), so that's my go-to! The rice and peas are also delicious and pair especially well with the oxtail and the curry. My last must-eat is the beef patty. Oh man. That thing is HEAVENLY (second only to the plantains). It's deliciously crispy, and when you bite in the filling is perfection. If you can handle heat, get the side of scotch bonnet sauce and slather that stuff on EVERYTHING. It's so good. They're in Citizen Kitchen which is basically a large industrial kitchen space that houses a few different restaurants, so if, like me, you walk up and you're confused, don't be! You're likely in the right place. Order for takeout on their website (no dine in). Weird pro tip: If you also order dumplings from Mama Yang & Daughter, who is also in Citizen Kitchen, dip their dumplings in The Pepper Pott's scotch bonnet sauce. Food trucks can be hit or miss, but I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered food from The Pepper Pott food truck. I heard someone in line saying he always has a hard time recommending something to eat off their menu because all of their food is so good. He was probably right. I ordered the Rasta Pasta with Chicken and a side of Plantains...and baby...it was delicious! And I'm thinking the chicken was going to be mixed in with the pasta...no...they topped the pasta with juicy smoked wings. I'm in Nashville for the weekend and did a quick search of highly rated restaurants near my Airbnb. I was excited to see The Pepper Pott because I love Caribbean food. We visited their counter around 5:45 pm and met the nicest guy ever working this evening. He was friendly and engaging, even took time to explain how a bell works to my son. I had orders for a couple of people and he was helpful in recommending sides and items. The food took about 25 minutes but we walked around and checked out the space they are in. Our food was packaged well to go with utensils, napkins, and sauces. I so appreciate when restaurants pack your order well. Now on the food.. I had the salmon, cilantro rice, cabbage, plantains, lo mein, and wings. Yes a lot of food but I wanted to try things! The food was delicious specially the salmon! Highly recommend. I've never really had Guyanese food before. I came across The Pepper Pott on Instagram and tried them for the first time a couple of weeks ago when they were in Antioch. At first I got the sweet and spicy wings. The guy that took my order was nice enough to throw in a free plate of the curry chicken. The wings were so good to my boyfriend that he asked me to go back and get the lemon pepper jerk wings to try lol. The lemon pepper jerk wings were alright. They needed a little more seasoning. After seeing them on Instagram, I had to give Pepper Pott a try, and boy was I impressed! I love Caribbean food, and with not many options in the 615 I was excited to have another option! I called ahead to pick up, and they came out to my car and rang me up. I don't know the mans name, but he was extremely kind - they even threw in some free veggie lo Mein as they were testing the menu. In total, I got a order of Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, Baked Mac & Cheese, a Caribbean lemonade, and the free lo mein. The verdict? Absolutely amazing!!! The flavors in the oxtail and the sauce was to die for, it fell right off the bone. The jerk chicken was flavorful and moist, and the Mac and cheese was a perfect side. My one recommendation is be aware of the sizes, I got a large which I didn't realize was meant for 2-3 people - completely on me for not asking but we ate it all since we had a big group anyways! One of my favorite Caribbean restaurants in Nashville. The owner appears to be heart working and prideful about his culture and dishes. He regularly brings the food to the car with sincere gratitude and a big smile. The Jerk Chicken is my favorite. This place is a hidden gem the food is just happy bursts of different flavors. Tried almost everything today so we will start w/Caribbean lemonade that had vanilla, mint, and other spices that work well on the palette. The oxtails were different than the others in town more so sweet maybe a Chinese five spice not sure but very tasty. Cabbage had a tang to it with a lots of herbs that mesh well. The 4 cheese Mac had a hint of mustard which I appreciated this owner is definitely a chef from all the unique flavors incorporated into the dishes. The lemon pepper jerk wings were genius. I reviewed WSMV Terry Bulger's August feature video about the restaurant, their Instagram posts and several Yelp reviews. Always searching for unique, spicy dishes, I knw I had to try this place.
