Tropic plate (plantains, rice & peas, chicken)

I'd always wanted to try The Pepper Pott and finally got the chance when their food truck came to my company. The long line in the summer heat told me everything I needed to know. It was worth the wait! Love: service (kind, fun-loving despite the heat), tropical plate (plantains, rice & peas, and chicken - all prepared perfectly), lemon pepper wings (fried well, bright lemon flavor, meaty)

I was honestly disappointed with my experience. I ordered food for an event after previously having this caterer at Vanderbilt events and really enjoying it, so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the food we received did not reflect that same quality. The chicken was extremely hard and dry, almost as if it had been over-fried, and the plantains were overcooked as well. For the price paid, the quality-to-cost ratio just did not feel appropriate. Multiple guests at my event also commented on the food quality, which was embarrassing given the expectations I had going into it. I'm sharing photos for context because I truly wanted this experience to go differently. I understand businesses can have off days, but I hope consistency and quality control can improve moving forward. I've also shared this feedback with the store and was reimbursed $59.17 of the $250 total purchase.

    Salmon Sandwich

My friend and I tried their Salmon Sandwich from the food truck at the 12th South Farmers Market and we had NO words. My friend literally said that this sandwich was lifechanging. The salmon is super flavorful and moist and flaky (it doesn't come in a patty but rather just a pile of freshly cooked salmon). The pineapple and sweet chili sauce add a sweetness that pairs perfectly with the meat and with the sweet Hawaiian bun, and there is a nice kick of spice that rounds out the flavor. The only note we had was it would've been brought to the next level with some fresh cabbage slaw on top to add crunch and cut the heat a bit (not that it was too spicy). Would definitely try other options from this truck, and get that sandwich again for sure! Also, we paid with a $100 bill and they graciously gave us change for it so that was really sweet and accommodating of them!

Although technically not a restaurant (yet), they are my favorite place to eat in Nashville. They have a food truck and recently opened up counter service at Taylor Street collective. The flavor is unmatched, everything is consistently delicious. I always get the salmon sandwich or the lo mein and plantains. Their drinks are also good and refreshing! They also have some vegan/plant based options. And the family who owns it are so sweet, it makes you want to keep supporting them.

We stopped by the Pepper Pott Food Truck so we got a limited menu. I ordered the chicken Pineapple Bowl with a side of plantains. The chicken was moist with a nice spicy jerk seasoning and the plantains had delicious crispiness and a soft center. The food was so filling and was served in half a pineapple. Visit their website to find out the Food Truck schedule because it is worth checking out.

SO. FLAVORFUL. O.M.G. Heard about The Pepper Pott on Yelp and after seeing pictures on Instagram, I had to try it asap! Especially love that they have contactless ordering and curbside pickup! Super easy online ordering/payment and pick up was quick and ready when promised. Everything was neatly packed and the food was still warm by the time we drove back home to eat. There's no indoor seating, it's a takeaway set up, but we saw a few other patrons eating in their parked cars. Service was very friendly and the guy who helped us wore a mask. On our first trip, we ordered the jerk chicken and curry chicken. Both were excellent! Hubby described the jerk chicken as "fall off the bone." Our sides were fried plantains, 4 cheese baked mac, veggie fried rice and rice & peas. All were tasty, but the plantains were the standout for me. We also tried one each of the pastries: pine tart (pineapple filling), ground beef patty and 4 cheese roll. Again, all were delicious! They threw in a caribbean lemonade and sorrel (hibiscus tea) that were the perfect things to top off our meals! In addition to their standard menu, The Pepper Pott offers rotating specials, which are announced on their Instagram along with pictures to make your mouth water. Some of the specials have been jerk salmon, bake & salt fish and curry goat. Definitely give this family-run small business a try!!

All around yum!! We got the salmon burger and mac n cheese. I'm usually disappointed by crinkle cut fries but even they were crispy and delicious.

I seriously dream about the fried plantains from The Pepper Pott. Whatever entree you choose, do yourself a favor and add on fried plantains. Add an extra side, too. You will love them. I promise. Now, on to the rest of the meal. I've tried the jerk chicken, curry chicken, and oxtails, and they are all wonderful! You get very generous portions when you order a plate (plus you can choose plantains as one of your two sides when you get a plate), so that's my go-to! The rice and peas are also delicious and pair especially well with the oxtail and the curry. My last must-eat is the beef patty. Oh man. That thing is HEAVENLY (second only to the plantains). It's deliciously crispy, and when you bite in the filling is perfection. If you can handle heat, get the side of scotch bonnet sauce and slather that stuff on EVERYTHING. It's so good. They're in Citizen Kitchen which is basically a large industrial kitchen space that houses a few different restaurants, so if, like me, you walk up and you're confused, don't be! You're likely in the right place. Order for takeout on their website (no dine in). Weird pro tip: If you also order dumplings from Mama Yang & Daughter, who is also in Citizen Kitchen, dip their dumplings in The Pepper Pott's scotch bonnet sauce. It's an unexpected match made in heaven.

Food trucks can be hit or miss, but I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered food from The Pepper Pott food truck. I heard someone in line saying he always has a hard time recommending something to eat off their menu because all of their food is so good. He was probably right. I ordered the Rasta Pasta with Chicken and a side of Plantains...and baby...it was delicious! And I'm thinking the chicken was going to be mixed in with the pasta...no...they topped the pasta with juicy smoked wings. And the plantains were soft and moist and little crispy on the ends just like I like them. The pictures of the food don't do it justice. I have started following them online because I'm going to need some more of this food!

They let you try really anything to make sure you'll like it. A good example is truffle cream, but even the cheeses. 2. They try and get ahead of the line. By that I mean while they are making sandwiches they reach out to get the next order, and I'm always impressed that they remember the order. If they don't, or are not confident they do follow up. 3. Lexi and Sam today were amazing handling sandwiches and the customers with grace and kindness. They made us feel like we were special and again didn't make us feel rushed. 4. She not only switched gloves but she made my sandwich in a completely different area to make sure nothing was cross contaminated. 5. I have never been disappointed in a sandwich I have gotten here. "Negatives" it should be said that the sandwiches are on the expensive side. Especially if you add anything extra. Which is why I tend to come here as a treat, a friend is in town, or if someone hasn't tried this place before. Surprisingly the sandwiches are big and it can be tough to finish the full sandwich in one sitting, but also that can be dinner or lunch tomorrow. All three people behind the counter greeted me enthusiastically and with big smiles when I walked in. I perused the menu and opted for La Toscana. While I was waiting, I was enticed by the beautiful display of delicious and fresh ingredients in the display case. Every sandwich is made to order, but they worked very quickly so I didn't have to wait long. Overall the sandwich was excellent. In particular the Truffle Honey really took it over the top in terms of great flavors. I did feel that the focaccia was a bit too crispy, at least to my taste. I'm not sure if this was a one-off issue or if this is how they always make the bread. I would have preferred the focaccia to be quite a bit softer, but maybe that's just my personal preference. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but it was a very hot day so I stayed inside with the air conditioning. The place is really clean with some nice decor. The experience was really good, and I would certainly recommend this as a great sandwich shop with excellent Italian ingredients. I'll just hope for softer focaccia next time.
